  1. I'm too new to really have a clue as I have now played one whole game of AoS 😛

One neat thing about the Dreadlord on Dragon is you can shoot his Crossbow and double move with Living Cities which is pretty cool I guess?

He doesn't look fantastic for the points though and I'm sure there's better options.

Ish.  The only problem with your list is something that you need to run past your organizer.

If you are following the rules for Narrative Play (path to glory) or using the Matched Play battlepack out of the core rulebook, there is a rule that says a single unit in your army cannot exceed 50% of the points for your army.  Note here that this rule doesn't exist for matched play out of the generals handbook.  But with Drycha coming in at 330 points, that exceeds the 325 points for the 50% of the army.

It is likely that your organizer will go "yeah, that's not a problem", especially as drycha is literally 5 points over that limit.  However, it is probably something that you want to run past your group organizer just to make sure that there are no complaints.

We are using the Contest of Generals Battlepack so I guess I'll have to check.

EDIT: Actually you typoed the math I think 50% of 750 is 375 and Drycha is less than that.

  3. Thank you so much both of you. Super clear now.

I'm kind of in a "make a list quick with what you have available" kind of situation so I think what I've come up with is legal.

    Living City 750pt

*Battle Regiment* - Vendetta Grand Strategy
    Runelord (Genera)
Arcane Tome, Master of Magic, Curse, Lifebloom

    10 Irondrakes (Honoured Retinue)
    Torpedo, Banner, Hornblower

    10 Irondrakes
    Torpedo, Banner, Hornblower

    Drycha Hamadreth (Coalition)
    Ironoak Skin

From what I can understand this is legal?

  4. How does the 1 in 4 Coalition thing work.

Do I need to have four units and one of them can be from the Coalition or can I not have more than one per four units? Like if I have a list with only 3 units can 1 of those 3 be Coalition or do I need a minimum of 4?

I'm trying to build a 750pt list for an Excalation league and I don't understand.

Solid list at 750. My only suggestion would be to build the King as Volturnos and use him as a King with the sword. The polearm is actually better on the king, but you'll get more mileage out of the model if you can use it as both down the line.

Of course, if your group is chill enough about it, you could just say he has the polearm despite looking like Volturnos. I know I don't have time to build and paint 2 kings, but everyone's different!

Maybe it's worth magnetizing the hand if that's the only difference?

  6. My club has an escalation league starting soon and I thought I'd take the opportunity to jump into AoS!

I originally planned on playing boat dwarves but the Fish Elves have since won me over.

The league starts at 750pts and I wanted to know if this list is okay to start with?

    Dhom-hain Battle Regiment

Akhelian Hero w/ Polearm, Voidchill Darkness, Born of Agony and Amulet of Destiny

    3 Ishlaen Guard

    10 Reavers

    2 Allopexes w/ Net Launchers

    750pts on the dot.

Any advice is welcome, I was planning on buying the Broken Realms box.

  7. Any advice for a new player on where to start? My local club is starting an Escalation league starting at 750pts and increasing 250pts every month and I thought I'd jump in with Kharadrons to fullfil my Drukhari boat urges.

Is the Battleforce or Broken Realm boxes worth it or should I stick to Start Collecting?

We have one for daemones. For mortals I'd say its going to be a while.  OBR got released in 2019 and still doesn't have one and I don't know of any SC boxes with relatively new models in it. Chances for a Soul Wars style boxed set is bigger but I wouldn't hold my breath.

    Thanks!

That sucks but at least I know now :)

Except you can't avoid it? Its not a trick, its functions as a guaranteed 1d6+6" charge if you run and pile in instead of move and charge. You can even make it an auto 6 for a CP if you want and bam, guaranteed 26" "charge". This also comes with the added bonus of functioning as always strikes first (that beat all other strike first/last). There are areas where this army lacks in power but if you think Slickblades moving 28" inches, striking first and potentially piling in twice doesn't fit under the definition "hyper fast assault armythen I don't know what to tell you...

Some people just like to complain and be contrarian for the sake of it.

I'm new to AoS. What are the odds that we're getting a Start Collecting soon?

Yeah, that makes sense. I can't say I'm in love with it either!

How about something using the Aracnarok? Maybe like a drider theme, with a person's upper body and a spider thorax and legs?

I've seen a few people do that but my severe arachnophobia would very much prefer another solution.

I was thinking maybe a centaur type creature or a naga of some kind maybe but that doesn't fit with the leg attacks.

What is it you don't like about the soul grinder? Is it the entire thing or a specific part? Just as it'd be easier to build on top of the grinder rather than having a whole new model.

First of all I resent the fact that it's so expensive considering how old that model is.

I don't think it's slaanesh looking at all, I dislike basically every part of it, the head kind of works and the boneclaw hand is kind of fine, everything else would have to be replaced or heavily converted.

  12. Dragon Ogors don't seem great compared to Bullgors, I've been reading and listening to tons of Beasts of Chaos stuff the last two days and the consensus seem to be that Dragon Ogers are in a pretty rough spot due to their lack of damage output.

    Some ideas I've had:

Bestigors are interesting to me. 6+3(Shaman) move, +1 Run, run and charge and +1 Charge from Godseekers and rerollable if within 12 of enemy with artifact. 300pts for 30 or 120pts for 10.

They are decently tanky with a 4+ for 10pts per wound and they smack pretty hard.

Devolve is an interesting spell from the Shaman and it's a decently cheap and mobile summoning platform.

Doombulls seem better than most of our cheap fightly characters and is cheaper.

Cygors are interesting because they ping Wizards for 1 when they stop a spell and that generates depravity for us, they have a range attack that does the same and they have 14 Wounds for 140 pts which again seems like a depravity battery.

In depraved drove, they count as battleline as they are part of a Slaanesh army, outside of depraved drove they do not count as battleline as they are allied :) So take depraved drove and you'll be okay!

Havkai correctly pointed out that they need to be unconditional battleline; things like Gor and Ungor are :) All unconditional battleline means is that it's battleline so long as it's not an ally. Conditional battleline would be something like "battleline if in a Beasts of Chaos Army" or "battleline if a Doombull is your general" - I don't think you need to worry about this though

That clears it up a lot, now I just need to figure out what is worth bringing and then I can get to list building and rebasing a ton of goat people xD

  14. 4 minutes ago, Havkai said:

For every 3 units from your allegiance you can 1 allied unit. That's in 1/4. You can't spend total of more than 400 points on allies. It can be either 1 big unit or plenty of small units. In Beasts of Chaos case, if you take Depraved Drove battalion, all beastmen gain SLAANESH keyword therefore counts as slaanesh unit for army, with no restrictions. All beasmen units that are non-conditional baatleline (like gors and ungors) are also battleline in Slaanesh army when taken in depraved drove.

So I can bring 6 units of Gors with a Doombull if I wanted as long as I take the Depraved Drove even if it would exceed both 400pts and 1/4 of units?

Just want to make sure I understand it correctly.

I thought about bringing some cheap Ungors for Battleline and maybe some Raiders to try to fish for Depravity Points.

  15. Hello! I'm trying to figure out the list building rules for this game and it's honestly fairly confusing how allies work.

I have 40k Slaanesh Daemons and old WHFB Beasts of Chaos that I would like to use together if possible.

From what I've figured out I have to run Slaanesh and ally in Beast of Chaos.

You are allowed to bring 400pts of Allies at 2000pts. And I think you can only bring 1/4 in number of units?

There is also a Battalion for Beast of Chaos that make the units Slaanesh and Beast of Chaos, does that not make them take up ally slots/points because they have the keyword now?

Can I use allied units for my mandatory Battleline?

I assume I don't get any of the army bonuses for my allied units?

I'm not sure if the actual book explains things better than online sources like Wahapedia does but it's super confusingly written, please help xD
