Well, there are objectives x) Freeguild Guard is very cheap and has 2.5 bases, meaning they don't care about coherency that much. With Phoenis Guard going up 15 base, Freeguild are good for mass screening and controlling objectives. They won't kill much, but they will hold the line.
Ah, I guess. For me it feels like they want to be in larger blocks, but those reinforcement points could be spent in a better place. Would you suggest just a lot of MSU of Guard (also, is rule of three a thing in AoS?)

As someone who was working on a mostly Freeguild infantry list, it doesn't seem like there's a place for Guard in 3.0 anymore. I like my horde of armored chaff humans gosh dammit!

Ah, you're probably right, I just don't get why it's phrased in this way as compared to the perfectly serviceable language in the CoS book, the "you may attempt to cast this spell in your hero phase". It makes it feel like they're getting at something else when they phrase it in the way they did Shade Warlock.

So, about the Shade Warlock trait...
What exactly does it do for a non-Wizard? It doesn't change the unit's keyword to WIZARD, but it lets you cast spells as a WIZARD, which is different than the rules text of other similar abilities in CoS, which only let you cast a specific spell. I would assume it doesn't let you dispel or unbind, but can you cast endless spells, for example, since those are spells all wizards can cast? What about realm spells?

Unless there's an FAQ I believe they can't be empowered anymore. Most of the warscrolls changed in subtle/important ways too. Points are all over the place. The stream is still live so I don't know how to give a timestamp, but the link is here:
