For example a 4+ to hit by Bullgors is pretty much the same as a 6+ as there is no mechanic (well,.. one mechanic now thanks to Beastgrave) to make that 4+ better or more reliable.  And really when you roll a 4+ it feels and often plays out like you only hit ons 6s.

Maybe you feel that way but a lot of feelings, like this one, aren't in any agreement with reality. 4+ is effectively the same as 6+ is complete nonsense.

  2. I too think that it would be a mistake for AoS to keep going wider and wider with armies instead of deepening armies that are already here. Some armies certainly have big holes they can fill. Sylvaneth cavalry and archers/ranged come to mind.

In that vein, if we're talking potential Sylvaneth additions I'm not the hugest fan of the elf-satyr/centaur Kurnothi as we've seen from underworlds. Like, as a unit in the larger army, they're neat, but my heart wants elf-elfs of the kind that live in the woods. Ideally the Wanderers (and/or spiritual successors to those models) and Sylvaneth get back together as a "Natural Order" army with some new stuff added to the mix.

  3. I totally agree with the Tree Revenants - they should be pretty elite (especially 5-per box and their base size as has been said...).  And, withe the flavor of being regimented semi-traditional elfy kind of combatants, they should have statlines that reflect elfy units in a new way.

If I were to do it I'd have them be like "double Eternal Guard", you get the ~same output just with half as many models. So two wounds. 3-4 attacks. 3+ hit and wound, keep the rend, 3+ save. Keep the abilities as-is.

Spites would need a change too then - 2 wound glass-cannons. Maybe, if Sylvaneth doesn't get some new cavalry units, make the Spites cavalry! High move, extra damage on a charge.

The low durability of units in Sylvaneth has always struck me as weird. Nature, to me, is a resilient thing. If I were re-doing the army I'd have many units with like a "regrowth" ability - like a 5+ after-save (which also has a neat mirror with nurgle IMO) or like the living city regain one wound rule but it could resurrect a model from a surviving unit.

I just need to know if there’s going to be a Phoenix in this release.  Killing me not knowing the range, I’m on the verge of buying a Flamespyre Phoenix.  But the banner of the Dawnriders seems telling....

I really doubt you'll see a Phoenix. Even if there actually are more models (which seems less and less likely), there are two big reasons: (1) It doesn't seem like it would fit the mountain theme at all and (2) There are already phoenixes in another faction - they aren't going to duplicate a unique creature.

  5. I agree that it would be nice to see a second wave where most of the existing factions get new units/models, particularly the smaller ones.

But, to me, it's critical that these are actually designed to be AoS units, rather than Warcry/Underworlds bands that get ported in. That leads only to disappointment IMO. Take the warcry chaos bands. While I love the models,  dumping them into a single warscroll straight sucks. It's clearly because they weren't going to make new sprues or...like put in any effort, but still. With the Cypher Lords, for instance. The Thrallmaster should be a hero, and there should be a unit of Mirrorblades.

(And like, if the faction doesn't need something new, like seraphon, update some of the old stuff that's still in finecast!)

They are 100% Daughters of Khaine and probably have nothing to do with Malerion. Malerion has nothing to do with Khaine whatsoever.

Don't get it why people want desperately them to have something to do with Malerion when clearly they are Morathi'****** squad.

It's not desperate. They're not explicitly Daughters of Khaine, as in the race of aelves, even if they are Khaine worshipers and led by Morathi.  Like, this warband has some buff dudes in it - and we all know that, outside of the warlocks, that's not really a thing for males born to Daughters or reconstituted from a soul by Morathi.

Clearly they can go around that lore. But these could also be aelves from Ulgu that just join the Khainite cult.

    Yes. RUMOR TIME :

We know the Illuminor Szeras (new mini in plastic) will be the main antagonist for PA9, Pariah (as an old fluff blurb from 7th edition has him work on Pariah gene from Culexus assassin).

We know 40k 9th edition is coming later this year (8th codexes will still be valid, new rules fur fusion, re-roll, etc.)

We know Emperor's Children (noise marines, Fulgrim) will be featured, and Necron will get a huge boost (probably Silent King, finecast Characters and Flayers will get plastic, idem for models with green plastic rods).

But I expect those news to be for May (Warhammer Fest Online preview(s).

    :o

That's an awful lot of "We know..." for things we don't know at all, my mans. There's no news of EC or Fulgrim. All 9th ed. rumors are based on circular reporting and random forum posters.

Necrons might get a new character for their PA book, yes. Maybe the return of the Pariah unit? But some kind of model-line refresh? That is crazy talk - they're xenos!

  8. I figure a new army is going to have what? 15-20 Units? OBR has I think 18 + terrain and spells. And some are dual kits, so like 16-17ish total kits.

How many more do we need to get there? Got the spear-pokers, archers, cow-helmets (dual or weapon option), horses, big cow (dual kit), empty guy, mage, veilgirl, god duo.

So either we've seen about half or its a tiny faction.

My bets are a hero or two, a bolt-thrower-like, something kind of monster/rider that flys.
