Quick question , what are your guys thoughts of Soulblight getting skeleton archers? I’d like them to have at least some ranged but not sure if it fits with their army personality.

Seeing Underwolrds it is more likely that Ossiarch wil have archers at some point but I don't see the point in Soulblight (and for me it breaks their global theme).

Kharadon Overlords placing mildly surprises me.

Pretty amusing to see the Soulblight and the Lumineth at the top and the Hedonites at the bottom.

KO is in an awkward position right now. They can play the same game they used to play in 2.0 but now is not enough. Plain and simple.

The board size has gone down, KO doesn't have monsters, now the rend 1 in almost all the units is less effective overall and our MW output is almost unexistent (I know, bombs, but it is unreliable, and it's difficult to use the battering ram in the ironclad because we need to fit so much things in there). On the other hand, our mobility gives us still some play in the battle tactics.

So basically every KO player is trying new things and combos with our troops (I'm in this group) or is playing another army (that goes on the book).

Gotrek is very, very good right now for all the reasons stated above. I'm not gonna repeat/repost my essay on him from another thread, but basically the new battleplans (generally more clustered in the middle with less number of objectives) smaller boards (harder to avoid him) more CP (so you can more freely spend one to auto run 6") more commands (to give him a 3+ save among other things) and Heroic Actions (he's almost certainly healing D3 wounds each hero phase) all mean he's much harder to handle in 3.0, and he got slapped with an enormous point drop to boot. Don't sleep on Gotrek.

He will be good while people use 2+ hero monsters, because he can deal with them (and for some armies is the only way). But against mass attacks he will underperform as he already did in the end of 2.0. Last night he didn’t get anywhere in the table, my reavers straight shoot him off.

KO have three troop kits in squads of 3/5/10 with totally different roles and aesthetics. If they only had Arkanauts and balloons they would be a lot less interesting... I dont want Kruleboyz to end up in that scenario.

All KO troops fit the same role, shooting damage. Some have high moving range so they have less output, and the slower ones have better output (some light shooting and some rend shooting). But everything is about shooting, no magic, no fighting,... And it is a good army. Kruleboyz will be fine as they are, and even more in a warclans battletome.

If they only have 10 man squads of Gutrippaz/Hobgrotz and 3 man squads of Bolt Boyz surrounded by heroes and monsters I will consider the Kruleboyz a design failure. They really need some kind of elite melee or cavalry unit to round things out aesthetically.

I don't think the same. Actually I like that every faction or subfaction has its own perks and drawbacks. What I mean I don't need a tabletop game where every faction have every role present in their army; I love KO having only boats and shooting, Mawtribes being fast&furious, ... It is nice to have armies that play completely different (and even more when the Kruleboyz will have all the option from the orruks range).

So it seems that it may hint something related to those new draconith for the stormcast, or something for the duardin. But I feel it's the first.

Can we remove the double turn? It makes the balance problems even worse.

First of all, most people talk about that double turn, but the real mechanic it's called Priority Roll. It can be made better, but it is one of the defining characteristics por AoS. Some days may be frustrating and some days may save you the day, but if you play taking it into account, you can play around it using it in your favor.

Well we got ourselves a good ol' fashioned preview again next Saturday. I reckon it'll be more 40k focussed this one though.

From the teaser images there's definitely an Ad Mech character but the other 2 I can't tell. The archer almost reminds me of the House Escher lot but they've already had their release. The bow looks too techy to be Kurnothi/Aelven.

That archer on the right I feel it will be from the Ossiarch Warband.

Well, we will have to wait to see what news do they share about AoS, and if they say something about Broken Realms releasing dates!

  9. Quoting the last sentence: ‘To destroy the impossible,’ said the winged monstrosity, rising from its shadowy throne. ‘And in doing so, to bring about the end of the eternal.’

It's true that the eternal could be Nagash, but there ir a Big Waaagh trying to hit Excelsior. Destroy the impossible could mean destroying the gates to Azyr, and then bring the end of the eternal (stormcast eternals) could mean Sigmar?

Prevelance of KO in top 5 of tournaments results appear to contradict that.

There are also attempts at more indepth analysis by folks out there.

Can you link to more detalied information?

I think everything I have seen is about how many players do we have, and not how well we are performing in tournaments against real threats.

  11. I don't think KO is that dominant as someone is saying. AoS is played by objetives, and while KO has a mobility advantage, it also true that we don't like spreading too much our forces, an Ironclad is for sure a centrepice and hits hard, but considering its point value, its doesn't hit THAT hard, it hits hard because it carries other dwarfs inside. We can kill most of the armies in 5 turns, but if we do so, we mostly lose the game, because we are hitting and repositioning all the game, and not playing the objetives taht well.

What's more, we have some weaknesess, the MW spam from Seraphon or LrL, ID playing tricks with our shooting, armies that alpha stricke us...

Our current situation is good, but we are not top meta, not even the Spell in the Bottle Ziflin list. So if you play other lists (as most of us who don't play the same always), we don't have that much success, which is fine for me.

That is a fair point. You might have convinced me.
although it does remain a very intricate choice with lots of interactions. If it’s a free choice on top of your army of something that you take instead of more models, that is a big difference. I’m currently introducing a mate through Ogors.

And that’s so easy now. He picks the units he liked from the previous game. And then we say do you want your mages, guns or monsters to be better.
Not. Okay do you want your mages to be better. Or more mages.

I would say that what the game needs in a long term perspective a global increase of points. We are moving towards a horde playstyle again, and above all, this is the thing that keeps aways new entrys to the game. It would be a fine movement in the competitive environment to have more point updates across the year (online always) and specific ones por subfactions, but the thing we need the most is getting back to the original idea of AoS, a game you need few models to play.

Could well be because the the design team who write the FAQ aren't in yet or running on a skeleton crew.  I don't know what their work loads are like - I can't imagine they've reduced over lockdown.

I may have missed something, but what are we waiting for in the FAQ that's stopping people playing (whilst socially distancing and taking necessary precautions)?

The date for the FAQ is the same as it has been for the past two years too, all being well it'll be available in July.

I think we are not getting to the point correctly. It's not a FAQ what we need, this is something completely different. We only need the pont update for eight armies. No need to revisit the warscrolls, only a matter to change points in a database and print them, plain and simple.

  14. What would you say for a Meeting Engagement a list like this:

    Allegiance: Cities of Sigmar
    - City: Hallowheart
    Mortal Realm: Aqshy

    Spearhead
    20 x Phoenix Guard (320)
    - City Role: Honoured Retinue (Must be 5-20 models)

    Main Body
    Knight-Incantor (120)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Warden of the Flame
    - Lore of Whitefire: Roaming Wildfire
    - Hallowheart 2nd Spell: Sear Wounds
    Freeguild General (100)
    - Artefact: Whitefire Tome - All Spells
    - City Role: General's Adjutant
    10 x Freeguild Guard (80)
    - Swords and Shields
    - City Role: Honoured Retinue (Must be 5-20 models)

    Rearguard
    Battlemage (90)
    - Lore of Whitefire: Ignite Weapons
    - Hallowheart 2nd Spell: Sear Wounds
    - City Role: General's Adjutant
    - Mortal Realm: Hysh
    20 x Freeguild Handgunners (200)
    - City Role: Honoured Retinue (Must be 5-20 models)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs
    Emerald Lifeswarm (50)
    Soulsnare Shackles (40)

    Total: 1000 / 1000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Wounds: 65

I think it's better to run the freeguild general to buff my handgunners, better than an anointed running with the PG. I would play a defensive role around my core of handgunners protected by freeguild guard, and behind them the freeguild general, the battlemage and the knight-incantor. And the my PG would do the offensive role suported by magic (both offensive and defensive).

The Endless Spells I think that are the ones that mostly fit this army, one to heal the PG, and the other one to bother my opponent's advance towards my handgunners.

I have no insider knowledge, but isn't the FAQ usually based on feedback from their internal and external play testers?

If so, then it's not hard to understand that a nearly global lockdown for three months that stops people playing games could affect this and cause the delay. How else can they polish points if they can't get feedback on how the points are being played?

I'm not a big gamer, more of a hobbyist, so maybe i'm missing something, but what exactly is the problem with the GHB2020 that needs urgent FAQing?

Well, we the need the FAQ because in the book there are eight races not updated... I'm a CoS player, and with a nine month old battletome not updated. If I buy something I want to get all the updates, and not delaying them indefinitely.

I think it would be disappointing, but also realistic to expect a delay in other new releases, including the sons of Behemat.

Even before the lockdown, I understand production capacity was almost maxed out. Then the lockdown shut the factory down for months.

Lots of items on the webstore are out of stock and so they'll need to be running to restock, as well as the extra Indomitus boxes they're going to need to make for the made to order.

It's understandable a delay in new releases, but what motivates the delay in the GHB2020 FAQ? A book printed back in October, there should be plenty of time to do the online FAQ, it's only a plain document. Moreover, they haved had three months with no tournaments to finish the polishing of points.

What really bothers me is the lack of information. No information... nothing to update this thread.

Hard to say at this point. Depends what other changes comes about. Depends also on what other meta changes there are.

Everblaze comet against Tzeencth/Seraphon is great for instance, but not worth its points against Orruk lists.

It could mean a more close combat focused Hallowheart list. Phoenix Guard and Phoenixes. Lifeswarm, Geminids, Palisade would be good endless spells for that.

But if other points drop, it could still mean bridge + portal + Comet. With shooting heavy lists.

We may see the use of Gyrocopters to support our lines in certains matchups? I mean, even using Phonenixes me may struggle capturing objectives. We may stay with our Phoenix Guard in an objective for a long period of time with a good suport and re-rolls from Phoenix, but it leaves a lot of the table open and a lot of points in an objective.
