  1. Hi all,

So in a few months we have a Meeting Engagement tournament coming up and i want to finally use my new HoS army I've been painting up over lockdown.  However trying to fit models into the restrictions for ME is proving a headache, especially as this will be first time using HoS!

    So I'm thinking of running:

    KoS

    Exalted Seeker Chariot

    Contorted Epitome

    x5 Chaos Warriors

    x5 Chaos Warriors

    Fane

This brings me to 990 points.  I'm thinking of running Lurid Haze Invaders , but i don't think the ambush rule will work with the random deployment of Meeting Engagement?  I'm also deciding what to add to each part of the army.

I'm thinking the Chariot as the spearhead, KoS and the warriors as main body and Epitome as Rearguard.

Then getting the big things in combat asap to start generating Depravity points to bring in models.  Probably seekers to run off to objectives.

I did toy with dropping the Epitome in favour of an Infernal enrapturess, then taking 2 x 10 deamonettes over the warriors.  But reading here and elsewhere the Epitome seems like an auto take?

Anyone else had a successful Meeting Engagement army since GHB20?

  2. Yeah my VLoVD did ok with my LoB last tourny, mostly from gaining extra points on the mission that monsters gain an extra VP.  But other than that, he seemed like a waste.  Just hoping my hero's can hide and buff enough to keep the list going.  If nothing else, it will be fun!

  3. So after the last Covid safe tournament (was spread over a few weeks, with one game a time) we did in my neck of the world.  It's become apparently that with the new missions from GHB20, hordes seem to have the advantage due to being able to cap and hold objectives.  I came 4th with a WWL but one of the win's was a bye, so would of gained 3rd, but feel going more hordy will help me out further.  (Fun to see no shooting heavy armies came in the top of the table!)

Next one (Provided the restrictions don't get tighter here in the UK in November) will be 1750pts (we have new players who don't have 2k points yet). So i'm thinking of going old school vampire counts and spamming the <cough> out of Skeletons with small heros to hide and buff everything.  I'm thinking of the follow:

    GHoN

    Necromancer - Fading Vigour - 130

    Necromancer - Overwhelming Dread - Ossific Diadem - 130

Wight King with Black Axe - General - Master of Death - Balefire Lantern - 120

Wight King with Baleful Tomb Blade - 120

    x5 Black Knights - 120

    x 10 Grave Guard - Great Wight Blades - 140

    x40 Skeletons - Spears - 280

    x40 Skeletons - Spears - 280

    x40 Skeletons - Swords - 280

    Battalion - Death March.

Using black axe as the general as i don't have a second mounted wight king, and feel he maybe able to hide much better, also not sold entirely on the balefire lantern as his artefact.

Depending on the mission is how i'll deloy, but looking to use the mounted king, knights and pull a 40 blob out of a gravesite to attack objectives, and use the rest of the heros and skeletons to take and hold mine and middle objectives.  Grave guard to, well, guard the heros!  Obviously placing gravesites in the best position, it will mean i'll be getting an awful lot of regen from the legion trait, heros, battalion and gravesites.  If they do wipe a unit, all can be summoned back.

Feels strange not having any big hitters in the list, but my plan isn't to out combat, more board control with stuff that keeps coming back.  C&C welcomed!

The Necro is not a good choice - simply too slow. The Rasps don't do much damage even when attacking twice. Pick a VL (flying horror) instead, who is going to keep up with your BKs and give them +1 attack each. On that point: a unit of 15 BKs with a VL backing them up can raze almost everything, and that'll give you a 6 drops army.

Never take Prince V unless you have another VLoZD. No command trait, no artefact, no extra LoB attack.

The Rasps: yes, they're easier to heal than wolves, they are more resilient and they do a tad bit more damage, but they are slow. Wolves have won me many a game because of their 10" move. However, I do agree with what has been said above: personal preference on this one.

The Necro and Prince V, on the other hand, I don't really think they have their place in a 1500 pts LoB list.

Additional suggestion: put Vile Transference on the VL and Pinions on the VLoZD. Pinions scares people so badly it's just not true, - massive psychological warfare tool.

Lastly: a malevolent Maelstrom is less of a good choice if compared to a Triumph - which can win you a game. Not only the Maelstrom barely does anything, but it takes one of your 2 casting slots...

So a block of 20 rasps and 2 x 5 wolves is what i was originally looking at with the Flying VL with Vile Tranference.

So you suggest bunch the Blood Knights to one large block of 15 to run with the VL?  I originally thought one of 10 one of 5 just so i can reach out to other targets if needed, then use the wolves to grab objectives, chain rasps to sit on an objective.... only 20 so not the hardest to shift, but will be annoying enough.

  5. I see your thoughts there.

    So revised list:

    Leaders

VLoZD - General - Ethereal Amulet - Aura of Dark Magistracy - Vile Transference

    Necro - Overwhelming Dread

    Battleline

    20 x Chainrasps

    10 x Chainrasps

    10 x Chainrasps

    Other

    5 x Blood Knights

    5 x Blood Knights

    5 x Blood Knights

That's 1490/1500 - throw in a malevolent Malestrom?  Just because why not?

The VLoZD i could take as Prince V.  But then would need to find 30 points, and i feel without back up or buffs to spell casting he may not perform as well at this points level?

This looks good. I would take rasps instead of wolfs but I guess that is personal preference. Also I would consider necro instead of vampire for overwhelming dread.

And finaly maybe separate 10 knights to 2x5. 7 or 8 dropsdoesnt make a diference.

I didn't think small units of rasps would be that viable? My theory behind the vamp over the necro was giving their CA to the VLoZD for even more attacks or one of the Blood Knight units.  Plus extra attacks themselves being a vamp plus healing via Vile Transference.

  7. Hi all,

Managed to source some chaos knight i'll be converting into Blood Knights.  Was wondering what people's thoughts are on this list? My concern is the lack of battleline which could cause me issues, and i know i'm going to be facing some Tzeentch armies this time round so not looking forward to the shooting!  1500 points is tricky to get hard hitting things into a list!

    Leaders

VLoZD - General - Ethereal Amulet - Aura of Dark Magistracy - Pinions

VL - Flying Horror - Vile Transference

    Battleline

    20 x Chainrasps

    5 x Dire Wolves

    5x Dire Wolves

    Other

    10 x Blood Knights

    5 x Blood Knights

This is 1480/1500 So with the spare 20 i was going to throw in a Suffocating Gravetide.

Possible tweaks are take the VL on a nightmare to run better with the knights, but wanted them to be able to get VT off on the VLoZD so being able to jump over possible LoS blocking terrain is useful.

I could drop 5 Blood Knights and take 40 Chainrasps or Skeletons, that leaves me with an odd 100 points so not sure what i could squeeze in with that?

  8. Thanks for that, but we're using battle host rather than vanguard so need 3 battleline.  Plus the small issue that i only have one VLoVD model!  Food for thought tho when we move to 1750.  Although i probably we try and sqeeze Nagash into the 1750 game.  Tried to fit him into 1500 but didn't leave much else other than a necro, block of 40 skeletons, 10 GG and 5 dogs!

  9. Hi all,

I posted originally in the Legion of Blood post (thanks for the advice to people there) but after some general LoN advice.  We've been starting AoS again at our FLGS and the next tourney is up to 1.5k points.  I really want to run Prince V mainly as i've recently built the model as part of a separate "Tale of Warlords" event we're also running.  Looking at various forums and Youtube vids it seems giving Prince V some sort of bonus to cast is a must to get quickblood off, but in 1.5k points it's hard to fit in a mortis engine (plus don't have the model yet, although could see if the TO would allow my coven throne as counts as) and a corpse car is quite slow to keep up with him.  Plus i need a hero to support my battleline.

My latest list therefore uses LoS for the inbult +1 to cast.  My original thought was to use LoB, but again i'm lacking Blood Knights to also take advantage of the +1 Attack.  I do also own Mannfred and was looking to do a tag team list with him, but fitting them into a viable 1.5k list is tricky.

So far i've come up with this:

    Leaders

Coven Throne - General - Bound to the master - Etheral Amulet - Vile Transference

    Prince Vhordrai - Pinons

    Necro - Overwhelming Dread

    Battleline

    40x Skeletons (Spears)

    40x Skeletons (swords)

    5x Dire Wolves

Skeletons are what i have modeled so can't take two blocks of swords or Spears.  I do have Chainraps i can use in place of the Skeletons as well.  Necro to babysit the blocks and debuff with OD if anything comes near, or pop Bound to the master from the Coven Throne  to get extra range on it.

Coven Throne to support Prince V with her reroll 1's to hit, wound and Save buff with the Amulet to help her staff alive if she does get targeted or charged.  Then Vhordrai to do what Vhordrai does best, smash face.

    Would welcome people's thoughts!

  10. Sadly don't have any other zombie dragon models yet.  I have nightmare/winged Vamp models, some necromancers, Foot Wright King and a Coven throne (well nagash as well.... but can't really use him!)

Thinking of taking a Vamp on Nightmare to buff the VLoZD with the +1 attack command ability so he'll get +2 with that and LoB Bonus.  Then i'm torn between a third vamp to babysit the battleline, which i'll probably drop the chainrasps in favour of 40 spear skeletons. Or a Necro.

That leaves me with 20points spare, or 40 if i drop the gravetide.  Or 30(50) points spare if i go necro.

  11. Hi all,

I have a 1500 point small tourney coming up soon and wanted to try a LoB list for the first time I usually go LoN, LoNight or Nighthaunt .... now before anyone mentions, yes i know there's no Blood Knights here, but that's simply because i don't have any models..... yet!  I'm about to sell off another 40k army to fund more AoS and will be looking to buy something to use as Blood Knights (not paying the stupid prices GW wants for them! so looking at the good old Chaos Knights conversion)

So I wanted to run this list as LoB mainly for the +1 attack to vamps and the command trait, the -1 Bravery is just some nice icing.  If anyone can suggest a better legion to use or tweaks to this list i'm all ears.

    Leaders

General - VLoZD, Aura of Dark Majesty, Etherel Amulet, Amethystine Pinions

Mannfred Mortarch of Night - Vile Transference

    Battleline

30 x Chainrasp Horde (couldn't fit in 40 Skeletons so opted for 30 Chainrasp's instead)

    5 x Dire Wolves

    5x Dire Wolves

    Other

    20 x Grimghast Reapers

    Endless Spells

Suffocating Gravetide (I had 20 pts spare!)

So basic tactics are VLoZD and Manfred tag team to smash into the enemy line/HQ's, Chainrasps to tar pit, Reapers to go after troublesome units, and wolves to go for objectives or act as screen if needed.

The spell is simply there as the list came to 1480 and can use it once the Vamp's are in range to cause havoc in a back line.

  12. That's fantastic, thanks for the advice.  I'll have a ponder tonight and come up with some lists, for the moment we're sticking to just basic's as a lot of us are relatively new to the game so these tourny's are designed for new players so we aren't using different realm artifacts just yet.

I don't actually have any spirit hosts either...... they are on the list..... so will have to use Chainrasps for now.

I'm guessing the NH ability outweighs the LoG ones as there doesn't seem to be enough units in a 1k meeting engagement to get off enough Bravery Bombs?  The added bonus of gravesites does seem tempting tho?  And i do also have a Legion of Nagash army i can pull units from.

  13. Hi all,

Has anyone played a Meeting Engagement game using NH or LoG?

I'm struggling to come up with a list that i feel will work, using the restrictive rules around the Meeting engagement games.  I want to use Lady O but with only 1k points she's almost 1/4 of the force, however will be a force to contend with provided i can screen her, or drop her in to go "boo" in their table edge.

Banshees could work by popping up and trying to shut down any wizzards.  Perhaps with a HQ Banshee in support?  And Harridans possibly but being restricted to a squad of 10 is a blow. (I have a love for all the ghostie lady models....)

What have other people come up with?
