  1. Well I have the results from trying out the Akhelian corps list at my local small tournament.  Went 2-1 but should have been 3-0 (first match my opponent was rather slow in taking turns and we ran out of time at the beginning of round 3...  I was fairly confident I would have beat him had we continued)

First match was against High Elves.  Focal points. This was the one that ended really early.  Despite his dragon lord absolutely obliterating my leviadon in one turn and then getting a double turn going into br2 with the dragon still in my backfield, I was able to claw back, holding my objective ground with Ishlaen and then killing the dragon with a morrsarr charge .   The morrsarr would have then been able to mop up the rest of his board but alas the timer went and he had me by 1 VP

Round 2 was vs a pure Pestilens Skaven.  Better Part of Valor.  I held back and kept my objectives forcing him to run his way across the board to me.  On turn two he left his back line exposed, brought in the morrsarr and deleted a unit and took one of his objectives.  Burned all mine objectives (including the one I took from him) and he conceded — nothing he could have done to properly react to the morrsarr now in his backfield and the rest of my force able to now advance Without worry.

Last match was against Gristlegore FEC. Total Conquest.  Played cagey and then thought I was gonna be in trouble when he double turned me into round 2. But was able to hold off two zombie dragons with my two Ishlaen squads hugging a ship and supported by the leviadon, while my 3 sharks and king squared off against the terrogheists.  Sharks killed one terrogheist and then the king on RTG killed off my king and the sharks.  Morrsarr came on and blew up the gkotg securing an entire half of the board for me.  Then it was just mopping up the zombie dragons which the ishlaen and leviadon handled alone, somewhat to my surprise but I was rolling well and the RR all wounds against monsters from dhom-hain was absolutely clutch.  My opponent conceded on top of 4 (iirc) when we did the math on objectives and there wasn’t really any pathway to victory for him.

Aside from the timeout on the first round it was all around a great day of gaming and I was pleasantly surprised with my list.  Only thing that felt useless was my tidecaster, but she did fail to cast arcane corrosion probably like 50% of the time...

If you drop the Runemaster you lose the Lords of the Lodge Battalion. Also he is quite good at keeping the forge running, doing prayer of ash 😉

Oh right haha, I knew I put him in there  for a reason!  Cheers.

otherwise does it seem a good start?

  3. Hey all, thinking about getting into these naked bois and need some intro advice.  I’m not new to aos but haven’t played fyreslayers before (for or against) and a lot of the lists online seem to be before the hearthguard unit size was reduced.  Here is what I was thinking for an initial list:   Am I on the right track?  Any advice or alterations?

Edit: Actually, I should probably drop the runemaster for a runesmiter on foot huh?  Seems like he is just all around better... that relying on 6s from the runemaster seems kinda wack

yea, I had a lot of luck running the akhelian Corps, and in all Honesty sharks are shooting up to my favorite unit after I had so many times where morrsarr dissapointed me. in units of 3 they provide a decent amount of shooting to wound things they are going to get into combat with or to harass heroes, and they do not need to get the charge off in order to keep the damage up. They are pretty beefy too, but dont think they can tank a whole army.  In the corps battalion the turtle even helps out with the one re-roll per phase, which I use either on the turtle's bite attack or the the shark's to keep damage up.

Honestly the thralls are much more expendable in this list to get the battalion. I like the tide caster with arcane corrosion personally, just because it adds just a few more wounds from across the map, and can be useful in holding objectives without having to worry about her trying to keep up with the rest of the army. Plus, you get one extra relic with the battalion, and are probably going to be going first most of the time with how much of your army can drop at once.

It's not the perfect list, and I tend to run the morrsar guard in one squad of 6 and one squad of 3 just to have more board coverage, but the unit of 9 tempts me. You do you though, and i am eager to hear how it turned out!

    Cheers thanks for the insight!

Running corrosion is tempting, not like her one dispell is gonna really protect me much anyway.  I also thought about going 6 and 3 with the morrsarr but the number of times my 6 man has failed to kill its intended target after the deep strike and then proceed to get bogged down the rest of the game has me itching for the killing power of 9.

I would like to have the battalion but I worry about holding objectives with just Akhelians, though I have a lot of big bases to help zone people off them I suppose.

wish I had time to get a couple practice games in to test the merits of one vs the other.  Might end up just going full Akhelian for the fluff of it.

Have to u had any issue with battleshock on the sharks?  I was already planning on keeping my king around them anyway but it’s a shame to burn (or rather always save one) a cp on it.  Could give the king lord of storm and seas (I think that’s the bravery buff one?) but it’s hard to give up those extra wounds.

Any thoughts on a second artifact?  I’ve toyed with wraithbow on the scryer for a rad bit extra MW threat when he comes into the edge... I’ve gernally found he doesn’t do anything at all once he deepstrikes so it gives him something possibly useful.

  5. Have a tournament this Saturday and thinking of running this list.

Any thoughts?  Anyone tried out the 3 shark unit yet?

I could drop the thralls or tidecaster to get the Akhelian corps so I can reduce my drops, but I feel it’s probably not worth losing magic deny/the bodies.  I know I ~should~ probably drop the leviadon but he’s new and I want to give him his debut!

I think you should ditch the Cygor for maybe 3 bullgors or a doombull (outside of the battalion).  They perform way better than the Cygor and you already have 2 big beasts in the army.

Thanks for the advice!  The cygor is in there at least initially as I was basing this off an initial investment in 3 start collecting boxes (and I really love the model).  I do think I would ultimately phase him out for something else -- perhaps bullgors as you suggest.  Cheers!

  7. Hello all!  Seeking some advice from you mighty beastlords!

When I first was looking into AoS I was sure I was going to start off with beast of chaos, as I absolutley love the aesthetic, however for various reasons I ended up going a different direction.  Now, two armies later (1 order, 1 destruction), I am turing my eye back towards chaos and wondering if this is the time to finally start what I wanted to at the beginning of it all.

Now, I know BoC is not in the best spot right now, and while I don't need to win all the time,  I'd love to be able to make the games interesting.  My local scene is semi competitive, with a few folks bringing heavy hitter lists here and there (for tournaments especially).    The following is what I was thinking for an initial list.. what do you think, is it viable?  Is running straight BoC just plain inferior to running beastmen under one of the chaos gods (I'm looking at you Slaanesh!)?  Any advice or insight would be great!

    Allegiance: Beasts of Chaos

    Greatfray: Gavespawn

    Mortal Realm: Hyish

  9. I feel like for the backfield threat to actually be a threat you need a bigger unit of cats.  Actually just played around with this idea some more and came up with this list.  Have no idea if it would work but I’m tempted to try it out some day:

    Allegiance: Ogor Mawtribes

    Mawtribe: Underguts

    **Leaders**

    Icebrow Hunter

     - General

     - Mass of Scars

    Tyrant

     - Gruesome Trophy Rack

    - Fateseeker

    Huskard on Stonehorn

     - Gnoblar Blast Keg

     - Black Clatterhorn  (or Metalcruncher)

    Butcher

      - Lore: Molten Entrails

    ** Troops**
     - Frostsabres x8

     - Frostsabers x 2

    - Mournfang Pack x4

    - Leadbelchers x4

    - Leadbelchers x4

    - Ironblaster

    - Ironblaster

    - Ironblaster

    ** Battalions **
    - Skall

    2000 points on the nose

Ram the huskard and his mournfang escort up the middle of their lines while the Ironblasters and Leadbelchers blast away.  Bring the big unit of cats and the Hunter in on their backfield to cause headaches.  Small cats to snag loose objectives/set up quick screens

also the difference with the ships on the right, but I doubt the Grotbag scuttlers clean their ships. All that said. I don't feel it fits either but nog because of the barnacles.

Tempting as it is to assume it’s Part of a Lumineth model, I suspect it could be Aeldari, and specifically a new Ynnari model. After all that’s hardly a range blessed with an over abundance of models that aren’t borrowed from other factions and the ‘rune’ whilst more of a serif one than usual does look like one of the more famous Eldar ones, and that is associated with Ynnead...

what does pull me up though is the ‘rope binding’ attaching the ‘staff’ part to whatever is out of shot which looks more AoS than 40k...

For what its worth the rune looks pretty similar to the one the Tidecaster is holding...  though I doubt they are giving my fish bois any love UNLESS Teclis is sending his new shiny boys to finish the job Tyrion wouldnt let him before...

  12. Cheers, thanks for the replies folks!

I would be over the moon if they simply released new gutter runners...  at least the nightrunners are plastic, and while yes they are weird monkey rats, they hold a certain vintage charm for me.

I don't think I will rush off to buy all this, but perhaps at some point during this most auspicious year I will take the dive.

Think it could be good to split the 20x night runners into 2x10 to just snag some early objectives/serve as screens (or an unexpected deathmaster transport) while the 40 block would run as an initial tar pit.    They wont last long as 10's certainly but they provide some extra board control

Might see if I cant proxy my mates pestilens army just to get a sense of how things play.  sword monks as night runners, staff monks as gutter runners, plague priests as deathmasters, corrupter as deceiver and well... I guess a piece of cardboard for the warpseer and endless spells lol.

  13. Greeting man-things!

I am currently a dirty order (and destruction) player but have heard the call of the horned rat to help bring glory back to the Clans Eshin!

I want to play a pure Eshin list — even if it isn’t the most competitive — cause i love the flavor and the play style seems really fun and different.

Here is what I am thinking for an initial list.. should I hit the warp stone!?!

    Skaven Clans Eshin

    ** Leaders**

    • Verminlord Deceive

    • Deathmaster

      • Weapon: Fighting Claws

      • Artefact: Sword of Judgment

    • Deathmaster

      • Weapon: Weeping Blades

      • Artefact: Betrayer's Crown

    • Verminlord Warpseer (general)

      • Command Trait: Master Manipulator

    ** Troops **

    • 40 night runners

    • 20 night runners

    • 20 gutter runners

    • 20 gutter runners

    ** Endless Spells **

    • Warp Lightning Vortex

    • Vermintide

    ** Battalions **

    • Slinktalon

    1980 pts

    What do you think?

Is it semi vaiable atleast -- suggestions for tweaks?

I am planning to convert the blood bowl team in Gutter Runners -- do they fit on 25mm bases?  Any foreseeable issues doing this?

    Thanks all!

On a 120 point unit, 3 extra 2 damage attacks and 6 1 rend shots (all 3+/3+) is a massive difference.  Also means it's often worth charging them in to get the bonus mortal wound and more damage on Rhinox. Changes it to a dual purpose unit, more so with a few of them.

Screening scrap launchers is all fine but then your investing even more points in a pure shooting unit ( that isn't great).

I do agree that Iron Blasters are indifferent outside Underguts, but scrap launchers still seem worse to me.

Personally I am getting a lot of mileage out of Underguts (10 games unbeaten so far), it's not a gun line through it's a mobile melee army with a shooting threat that's hard to ignore or mitigate.  Multiple small units of lead belchhers are particularly nasty.

I agree with your points on the ironblaster, and gthink they have a lot of underutlized potential as a hybrid shooting/melee unit, espeically in a pure gutbusters list if you can get them on the charge with blubbergrub stench.

May I ask what your normal underguts list is?   I have a bloodgullet list, and I just invested in some more ironblasters to also be able to field an underguts focused list, so curious to see what you have been running with success!

  16. Hello follow Tyrants!

I have a small tournament coming up at my LGS this Saturday, and going to be bring my gutbusters!  I am pretty new to the faction, and only have a few games with them under my belt as part of a modified firestorm campaign I am also playing in (my first/main army is Deepkin).

The scene is semi competitive, nothing usually ultra meta, but folks are known to throw down allarielle, 2-3 stonehorns, nagash, etc for example.

Im looking to run Underguts and have the following list built, painted, and ready to roll!  Looking for any advice, or insight into playing with this sort of list.  I have a few things I could swap around (have 6 more gluttons, and a slaughtermaster available to me), but sadly no more leadbelhcers.. I know I ideally need 2-4 more for this style list, but 🤷‍♂️  .

    Main Questions:

Should I swap the butcher for a slaughtermaster?

Should I run the leadbelchers as two units of 4, or keep the one block of 4 and two of 2?

Is Blubbergrub Stench worth it; seems super fun/thematic for when they rhinoxes ultimately get into the fray) but perhaps blood feast or the -1 to save spell would be better?

    Allegiance: Mawtribes

    Great Maw Tribe: Underguts

  17. Thanks for the advice!  I'm not a big fan of them doing away with the double turn rule either but I think you may be right with it being a benefit for us if we can use our speed/screens effectively.  Makes me lean towards list two so I have more chaff to put in front of my eels/sharks/eidolon.

Will mess around with the storm eidolon for either list, have been wanting to give him a run out anyway.  Also thinking maybe one of the +1 to hit realm artifacts could be pretty wild especially if going dhom hain, as that would bring his spear to 4 attacks +2/+2/ -2 / 3dmg, rerolling 1s to hit and wound on just about every combat (thanks to his fall back and charge every time)

Will definitely provide an update on how it goes both for myself and in general with the rules modification

  18. Hello all!

Longtime lurker of the forum, finally signed myself up and seeking some advice!

I am going to be playing in my first 2k tournament at my local game store in a couple weeks.  I had been hoping to run my mawtribes but it is looking very unlikely that I will have everything painted in time, so I will be sallying forth we my trusty fish bois!

From what I know my shops meta is not super competitive, but I want to have a good showing and bring a strong list.  That being said I do not want, nor do I have the models to run eel spam.

** ALSO:  BIG MODIFIER, the TO's have decided to try running the tournament with true alternating turns, no roll off, no double turns **

Here are a few lists I am contemplating:

    LIST 1

    Enclave Fuethan/Dhom Hain(?)

    Akhelian King (240)

     - General

     - Born From Agony

Eidolon of Mathlann, Aspect of the Sea (420)

     - Artefact: Black Pearl (or maybe Sands of Infinity)

    - Lore of the Deeps: Abyssal Darkness

    Isharann Soulscryer (130)

    6 x Morssarr Guard (340)

    3 x Ishlaen Guard (140)

    3 x Ishlaen Guard (140)

    2x Akhelian Allopex (240)

    10 x Namarti Reavers (130)

    10 x Namarti Thralls (130)

    5x Tree Revenants (80)

      - Allies

    1990/2000 Points

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    LIST 2

    Enclave: Fuethan

    Isharann Tidecaster (100)

     - General

     - Born From Agony

    - Lore of the Depths: ??

    Isharann Soulcryer (130)

Eidolon of Mathlann, Aspect of the Storm (400)

    - Artefact: Ethereal Amulet maybe?

    10x Namarti Reaver (130)

    10x Namarti Thralls (130)

    10x Namarti Thralls (130)

    6x Morrsarr Guard (340)

    3x Ishlaen Guard (140)

    3x Islaen Guard (140)

    2x Akhelian Allopex (240)

    5x Tree Revenants (80)

      - Allies

    1960/2000

The second list has room to bump the Eidolon from Storm to Sea, but without the King i felt I might need another beat stick and RR1 bubble.  Or could drop the sharks to bring the King back in.

These lists use just about all the models I have...  I'd rather not buy any more eels, but would consider another box of reavers to make a namarti corps battalion if it really seemed worth it.

Anyways, greatly appreciate any advice -- on the lists, playing in a tournament in general, playing games WITHOUT double turns, etc!

    Cheers!
