  1. See now this is the stormcast I always wanted to see when I read the fluff about Sigmar and Dracothion.  The stuff from before just looked so chunky and sloppy and bleh.

Gonna get me a dragon army painted up and ally in some demigryph knights with freeguild general on griffon.  Or some Kharadron.

Either way I'm going to be playing Flight of the Valkyries on loop and saying "Nurgle don't surf".

Do the Stormcast look a bit... big, on there? Or rather, the dragons feel too small for their riders. Really downgrades the models in my eyes.

Nah--maybe because they ride so far forward (because of wings) vs what you'd expect to see when riding something like a horse.

  3. I think the mention of "allies" and the "era of scale, and of storm" heavily implies they will be part of the Stormcast army.

A little disappointing in my opinion, since Stormcast already have about 12 billion units, but also maybe that just means they can only ally with Stormcast.

    Hard to be certain, though.

  4. I think people here who are being really flippant about the shrunken text size. . . haven't actually seen this in person. The 40k chapter approved has this issue as well. I have way above average vision and have never needed glasses, but immediately noticed that the text was way too small in these new annual publications. It seems they've literally shrunken the content instead of doing the professional thing you'd expect from a billion dollar company and properly reformat the content for the new size.

I think the problem is rose coloured glasses.  Right now units are fairly descent across the board where heroes and monsters become the issues.

A big issue moving from 5th to 6th was people's armies were invalidated and to a degree that happened in the first GHB with Battle line.  Both cases I recall lizardmen players struggling.  In the 5th to 6th change people could have 5000 points but not play cause they lacked what was chosen as Troops.  IN GHB 1 Saurus Warriors weren't as good as Temple Guard.

A loose percentage at low tiers is a form of comp that can really mess with things.  And across most armies it can scale bad and weird.  Take for example Path to Glory.  It was a casual game without balance.  That's invariably how smaller games get sorted out.

I would prefer to see a better set of rules for smaller games.  I think Meeting Engagement was meant for that but maybe poorly executed or seemingly not picked up well?

It sounds like Crusade for 40k could be a mix of army building, RPG elements and small game playing that would work for smaller games instead.

My issue with meeting engagements is that it creates extra steps and complications, when generally in a smaller match I’m looking for less complexity.

I am hoping the small 40k missions are actually good and that can maybe be a template for small format AoS missions in the future.

I'd really prefer to see them moving away from points updates in the GHB entirely. The Errata updates are honestly way more convenient.

Then the GHB could focus entirely on updates to the Three Ways to Play, giving new narrative stuff like the sky battles, and defining the rules and missions for competitive play for that year.

Move away from points, yes, BUT! Use the same space for warscroll updates, because that's where a lot of the real balance change is needed *cough Stormcast cough*.

That would definitely be way more useful than points that we can get on the app (IF IT EVER GETS UPDATED)

Apologies if I was misinformed, I've been out of the AoS loop lately. Do I understand correctly that the points for several factions were not included in the latest general's handbook? I came here looking for answers and expecting to see some outrage but I see barely a ripple on the topic.

That's correct but we've known about it for quite some time. Really, the GHB is pretty outdated and they could just update points in the app. Which they still haven't done to my knowledge (seriously what is up with the app delay it's just numbers that need to be punched in). I'm actually more upset about that.

  8. Well technically you can get more. You get d3 for having Slann or starseer general, d3 for astrolith, and then you get d3 per Slann or oracle if you choose to not cast. Theoretically you could get as many d3 as you include oracles and Slann, but oracles are I think the worst warscroll in the book, and Slann have diminishing returns due to not being able to cast spells more than once and needing body guards to not get sniped off the board.

And even if you go all in, you could roll all ones on your d3 and summon a mighty unit of 10 skinks for your troubles (womp womp).

So basically, the idea is to not build your army around summoning any powerful units. You should include your core that you are building around, and just use summoning to fill out the chaff and objective grabbing ranks as the game goes on.  Seraphon are now much more about command ability upgrades during battle and spell casting.

Personally I really like that summoning was hard nerfed.  I find list building and playing the army to be much more interesting now.

Hey everyone, new to AoS and KO. However I'm really excited to play and I've already got:

    1x Endrinmaster with Dirigible Suit

    1x Arkanaut Company

    2x Endrinriggers

    1x Arkanaut Frigate

    1x Grundstok Gunhauler

    1x Arkanaut Ironclad

Where do you guys recommend I go from here in order to build a competitive list?

A start collecting set for sure. Maybe another box of thunderers.  A navigator and khemist are also good to have for various reasons.

  10. I'm pumped for just about anything Seraphon.  They're my wife's army, so I get to have fun painting them.  They are PERFECT for contrast paints--I painted the entire carnosaur (except metallics) using just contrast and it looked fantastic.

  11. Welp I needed an excuse to buy an Ironclad, so I finally did it.  They're GW online store only, but because KO have been so mediocre to bad for so long, lots of 3rd parties have them for discounts still.  Same for Frigates, but they're cheaper to begin with, and I hate having a large backlog. . .
