I ordered a cannon recently and was surprised to find round bases in the box and casted in the darker  (better) plastic. Idk how long they've been casting this old set in the new plastic but I'm fairly sure hasn't had round bases included yet. Included the old instructions and white mail order box.

That bodes well for the cannon surviving into the Cities of Sigmar, if that was in any doubt!

Ardboyz, Brutes, Goregruntas, Warchanter, Weirdnob, Megaboss, Megaboss on Maw-Krusha are the available kits to Ironjawz.

You are right about the range unit, but it's not a huge issue to shooting being rather niche in Age of Sigmar.

Now with Orruk Warclans you've got a new way to play Ironjawz, as in da "Great Waaagh!", in a "Great Waaagh" army you have access to the whole Savage Orruks range, so you add in  Savage Big Boss, Wardokk, Maniak Weirdnob, Boarboy Maniaks, Boarboys, Morboys, Arrowboys, Wurrgog Prophet and Savage Orruks. Now you've got 17 warscrolls to choose from, instead of 7.

In addition, the forces are rather complimentory to each other, with ironjawz having no shooting, weak magic but tough, hitting hard and elite, bonesplitterz have great magic, shooting, and are more of a horde.

But you can still field a very effective pure Ironjawz list with "just" 7 warscrolls in "Orruk Warclans", the recent GHB made Ironjawz quite good again and the new tome should only make them even better, as our warscrolls are ancient.

Thanks for the useful info 😃.

When I said melee units, I meant generic troops, not general/heroes, I should have been clearer.

I realise I'm very old-fashioned in this respect, but the thing I really enjoy about Warhammer is building an army of 'normal' miniatures. Heroes and monsters don't really interest me. I also enjoy having a wide range of units to choose from and take to the field, because then it feels more like you're fielding an army that's unique to you. Fielding a competitive army is less important to me.

I'm not whining, don't get me wrong, I'm just outlining where I was coming from 😊.

I suppose I could just use the savage orruk warscrolls and use proxy minis, because to me the savage orruk look just isn't the one.

But I do think the orruks have lost some of their tactical interest since the squatting of the greenskinz 😪.

  3. I was looking to expand and get a new army recently, so I was browsing the webstore and looking at the different factions to see how they work, and I was shocked by the lack of variety available to the Ironjawz. The Bonesplitterz aren't my thing but I'd happily consider collecting an IJ army if it wasn't for their restricted roster.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but they seem to have no basic range unit and just two melee units. This doesn't feel like an army you can realistically expect people to call finished to me. I know 8th ed was bloated as hell, but I do miss the times when you could flick through the O&G book and see literally pages of options for building your army.

So I expect they'll either keep the Greenskinz around or flesh out both armies with a set of new units. I hope so, anyway 😣😣.

  4. Just my two cents, but Ogors might be a good choice if you like their minis. They're frequently the smallest armies by model count, and they're widely tipped to get a new battletome soon.

You can build a Troggoth army with the Gloomspite Gitz battletome, but the models are quite expensive. I don't know how competitive they are on the field though because I haven't seen them played.

Ironjawz and Dispossessed can be low model count depending on which models you take and they're fairly simple to use tactically.

    Good luck!

But lets be honnest: most of the actual range of free people start to show their age. (and this is an euphemism).

I'd be glad to see an update for few troop choice (infantry and cavalry).

If they released some new sculpts for the dwarf warriors, Empire swordsmen etc. I would be over the moon. I do think it's more likely they'll just leave them as they are, though, if they don't chuck them altogether.

My own theory is that Sigmar has been sending Stormcast into the Underworld, not only to gather Shadeglass to help perfect the Stormcast remaking process, but also to rescue Katophrane souls from Nagash's imprisonment, and has been turning them into a new Chamber (Ruination?) ready to be his instrument to topple Nagash as the supreme God of Death and replace him with another death god that has so far eluded Nagash's grasp.

Phew, just realised that was all one sentence.  You may now breathe.

Let it never be said that AoS lacks lore now 😂. I love all these speculations.

  7. Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm looking forward to getting involved. Yes, I'm hopeful that the new book will bring more than it takes away for my little guys. If they end up sacrificing some of the older models but giving us more competitive rules and a wider range of allegiance abilities, well, I guess I can live with that 😁.

Just the mention of Clan Mors makes an old duardin's beard bristle. I'm sure my Angrund boys would be itching for a chance to settle some grudges 😉.

I would be incredibly surprised if it wasn’t.  Come on let’s face it, it was a bit of an oversight.  A sort of hold over from fantasy that doesn’t quite work in AoS.

I kinda hope so. I held off on that conversion because I was sure they would fix it eventually.

Maybe! He did say he cleaned up a lot of things that to him felt like inconsistencies. To quote from the Cities of Sigmar thread here on TGA one user spoke to Sam Pearson on the open day:

"He said that he'd reviewed all the relevent warscrolls and had had to do a fair bit of tidying up with some of them to make them more realistic. The example he gave was of a model which carried 2 weapons but warscroll had them using 3 in the same phase/turn."

Hmm, I might have to try and find which warscroll he was referring to, now. 😂

Good to hear they're bringing us up to scratch with the rest of AoS!

Also another tidbit of encouraging news, Sam Pearson the guy behind the Cities of Sigmar book at GW said that all the warscrolls have been reviewed and updated to bring them in line with AoS 2.0 standard. That bodes as good news for us.

I wonder if that means the era of Great Weapons and Shields for our plucky warriors is over?

  11. Hello everyone!

I've played Warhammer since around 2006. My friend introduced me to Dawn of War and I was hooked. For some reason, though, when I found my way to the hobby, I bought the old Dwarf Battalion box instead of 40k.

After that I went on to collect Dwarfs, Tomb Kings, Bretonnia, and Tau models, but somehow never managed to field an army over 1,000 points. A combination of slow painting, too many armies and the cursed squathammer I suppose.

Since Age of Sigmar launched I think I've played exactly one game. But my interest in the hobby is finally growing again and now I'm collecting an army of Dispossessed.

In my own personal lore they're the (extremely) ancient descendants of Clan Angrund, the family who tried to reconquer Karak Eight Peaks. In true dwarven fashion, they're on a mission to rebuild Karak Eight Peaks exactly as it was in the World-That-Was, and they travel the world chasing rumours of long-lost artifacts from the Eight Peaks and blueprints of the old halls. The vast majority of these rumours turn out to be false, and the blueprints are often contradictory (which leads to endless rebuilding), but they're nothing if not stubborn and they won't stop until they've completed their quest.

I haven't decided which realm they're living in yet.

And now I'm just hoping they don't squat the hell out of Dispossessed in the new Cities of Sigmar book.

    So yeah, hi!

I can't imagine us losing the Unforged, the model is still really good and the Warden King and Runelord both still have plastic square base designs with their mini's too but we're not losing them.

Curiously something I noticed while I was at Warhammer World yesterday - I was looking in the store and found the thunderers boxes but they were not in the old style fantasy red warhammer boxes, they were in the mail order sort of boxes. While other old fantasy stuff nearby was in the red warhammer boxes. Maybe this means they are going through a potential reboxing?

Those plastic kits with 16 minis in them?  The duardin warriors, the glade guard etc?  They come in sprues of 4 don’t they?

I swear, while they are dated, they’re still usable.  If they just crammed in an extra sprue and sold them as boxes of 20 they’d be good to go.  Then they could replace them or keep them.

The Unforged is fab, yeah, but I worry since the Fyreslayers came out that it might be a but redundant, especially lore-wise. But fingers crossed.

That box change is a great spot. And I don't have any boxes to hand unfortunately, but I think you might be right in thinking they come on sprues of 4. I really hope they're planning to rebox them and keep them, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. My other thought is that they might be moving them to the naff boxes because they're planning to axe them and they're just doing a final run, but that doesn't make as much sense. Interesting that their boxes changed and none of the others, though. Am I right in thinking they're the only ones of our minis left that still use the old box art?

  13. Tbh I'm just excited to see the not-Stormcast humans and duardin get some attention!

I imagine the reference to some old miniatures being discontinued applies mostly to the old elves, though I wouldn't be surprised if we lost the Unforged and our Quarrellers/Thunderers.
