Everything about that book and the Darkoath/Cultist/Warcry stuff is odd and a poorly internally and externally balanced mess. Even after a WD tome update it is disjointed and senseless and now they add cultists that are not cultists to add to the confusion and messyness.

I wish they never made the Warcry bands under Std.

I‘d like more unique Stormcasts, yet I dislike the Space Marine Release approach.

How about not opening a new chamber but already opened chambers evolving?
    - New dynamic Liberators with heavier armor and Helbards

    - Dracoth Knights = Paladins on Dracoths with huge helbards and hammers. Super heavy elite shock cavalry with impact hits and dynamic poses

    - A Azyrite chariot. (Ballista or two Paladins on top?)

    - Liberator phalanx with a once a game spear throw

    - Overall more dynamic Stormcasts and a beta rule which grants all of them +1 hp

    - Prosecutors with differing heights, so they can be played while keeping the 1“ cohesion.

    - Sigmar

Wow not asking for much 😂 Sigmarines are already a lot more dynamic that a lot of other factions. And I don’t think they need to be any heavier or harder hitting tbh.

Oh, my poor wallet! I really like the Thaumaturge, but don't like its pricetag. Nor do I play Tzeench.

😄 Yeh should cost less, sometimes can get good deals on ebay.

I plan on converting the Thaumaturge into an alternate Myrmidon.

The Sphiranx and the Fonoroid can have their uses ^^

I also couldn’t resist the Ogroid Myrmidon - I even build an army list around him, just so I could use him in a meaningful manner (I‘ll get stomped but whatever xD)

Besides traditional Std, the Ogroids are my favourite models. Maybe one day they'll get their own faction.

That’s the thing with this book - it has really strong elements and it is definitely not one of the weakest books if used properly - but a lot of people are stuck on chaos warriors. Yes I agree they are the staple (fluff wise) and I have 30+ laying around waiting for better days but if you want to go with higher win rate you probably should look at marauders as your foundation. The same goes for marks - Tzeentch is generally better left out of the equation (Gaunt summoner notable exception) while Khorne and Nurgle seems really strong.

If GW gave us new marauders I’d used them, just not the current models. Would love the shielded spire tyrants in 10 man units to use.

It just seems that the competitive builds force you down the horde path, which a lot of players don’t like. I prefer to run smaller elite units or mid sized units myself, and the battletome doesn’t seem to really favour that style.

In fact, forget about the Bloodsecrator. You're always gonna have a Warshrine though. Here's the Chosen with just that one Undivided Warshrine buff:

I agree Chosen are awesome, just need new models for them that arent metal or finecast.

Almost ready to roll........  (wish I could field all 15,  Alas, 4x3 and Archaon will provide for some glorious, if not futile, games!)

(I'm going 6th Circle/Mark of Khorne. If I go bottom of 1 and top of 2, (and I'll use both command points to try to get it ), holy hell is stuff gonna die.....)

    That’s a lot of Varanguard!!

Hopefully they release some new poses soon if big V-builds are gonna be a thing.

    Harbinger casts a FNP

Lord of Blight can do Plague of Flies giving you avoidance against shooting (and melee for blocks of Marauders)

Epidemius against horde armies is cool

Thanks, some cool synergies to add to the great Nurgle ones in the Std book!

My spikey lads are ready for painting. Happily surprised by how many heads there are on the sprue too, for some reason I thought there were only 17, but now with 10 spare heads (and the heads fitting with the old models and keeping them in pretty much the same scale apparently) I don't feel so bad about getting one of the Warrior boxes. One more SC! box and I can have two units of 20 Warriors, all with different heads.

You were brave to fully assemble all models. Just for painting  ease I didn’t assemble knights cloaks and shields, Chaos lord I didn’t mount to Karkadrak and 4 warriors shield i didn’t put on.

The final faction to get a Battletome is finally here in the form of the Slaves to Darkness. Besides giving the classic Chaos army a much appreciated book, this also takes care of the last of the warscrolls from the Grand Alliance books. So what does Archaon's horde have in store for us?

    Great review!

They either be 'lazy' or you wait for another 2 years for a book while they update every other army that came befores old minis.

That makes no sense.  They create an entire tribe from scratch with two heros and a warband that they've done absolutely nothing with. They've phased out resin models everywhere else but not this time. Don't get me wrong I love that we have a tome now and it will be great for playing, but there's no way im running mismatched double up units of warcry warbands and old marauders in an army.

Disagree. It makes sense for them to be in the army. I don’t see how it’s laziness tbh, they still had to design and make 8 new kits and the rules for them. It’s not like there’d have been 8 new units for StD otherwise, they only have so many resources.

The laziness was importing the models from a skirmish game into the main AoS game, and not resculpting existing mauraders or replacing them with say a darkoath horde range. Imagine if another faction was given double sprues of an underworld warband to use as their horde units - there would be massive push back.

They actually aren't Battleline options. Marauders are Warriors are unconditional battleline, and Chaos Chariots, Chaos Knights, and Marauder Horsemen are conditional battleline options. The new realm-themed marauders aren't battleline for some reason.

That being said, I think some of them will slot nicely into the army, and have good synergy with the Darkoath heroes. With Marauders going up to 150 points for 20, a double sized squad of Warcry cultists is cheaper at 140 points. In addition some are just tankier, like Iron Golems with 20 wounds and a 4+ save (and full rerolls when standing still) vs the Marauder's 20 wounds and 5+ or 6+ save. If you already have your battleline sorted with Warriors or Knights, I think a brick of Iron Golems would be great to camp an objective and being impossible to kick off.

Stylistically, I think most can look at place in the army if painted with a similar color scheme as the rest of your chaos army, it's just we always see them in their Warcry colors in GW material. I have seen really good looking Iron Golems and Untamed Beasts in traditional Chaos Black and Gold that didn't look out of place.. Splintered Fang could look good alongside Chaos Warriors with the metal parts done in black with gold trimwork, and red cloth/fur detailing. Same for the other warbands. The only exception I feel are the Cypher Lords, who have a very specific and different aesthetic, kind of Tzeentch-y/Slaanesh-y.

Well that sucks that they arent even battleline.  I guess my main problem is that each unit (say of 20) cultists will have double heros, double big unit (ogre/rocktusk) with no proper leader and special models. Like the ogre is hitting the same as the iron legionaires?!?

I have my golems in very dark leadbelcher and bronze, so they will fit well, but im think of using Spire Tyrants as marauders if the marauders warscroll/synergy is better.

In another month it'll equal or surpass the Gloomspite with Warcry releases. But yes, CURRENTLY not the most.

Please stop using Warcry models as examples of the AoS release. This was pure laziness by GW to just whack double sprued mismatched warbands in a new box and market them as new battle line.

  15. Ok. Some problems I still have:

    - Chosen still only have 2 wounds (wtf)

    - Manticore Lord has the same CA that only affects warriors

    -  Varanguard shields nerfed from a 4+ to 5+ spell save

    - Lord on foot still 4+ save

    Good:

    - Improved warscrolls for Chariots, Warshrine (massive), daemon princes (massive), Archaon.

You don't get me: I'd play accolytes AS marauders ! And if you want to go further, just replace the shields and the paint scheme  so they look more barbarians/marauders (shields from skeletons for example)

Yeh i get you, i just mean that I'll use Spire Tyrants as marauders in the same way you will use Acolytes.
