  1. There are lots of coversion options  for a skullcrscker if you go down the whirlwind route. An old whirlwind wiuld do or you could use a FW render to make one. If you run big hats and are not bound by FW or GW minis then the Russian alternative do big hat BC onlr slightly smaller than FW which would look great and are A LOT cheaper. If you like the  FW look Nirba miniatures do a BC that would fut and is also cheaper, or just scratch build one. Mine is a page or so back on this thread(too big but thats the size of the cow model I had).

  2. Making a skullcracker would be fun and shoild not be expensive

I would  aim th make 3 ( stay with me).

    1. Buy 3 Bull centaur renders,  these would each push a renderizer/ whirlwind

    2. Wheels can be made nicely from plastic milk bottle tops. There is a tutorial over at cdo. They look great with 8 pointed chaos star covering rough spokes. Depending on design 6-12 of them.

    3. Get a ser of cog molds from greenstuff world (I think it is them)). Make lots of cogs!

    4. The fun begins! You can make a ‘metal’ supporting skeleton from sprues or plasticard with gs rivets or there are riveted plare molds. Then the smashy bits.... cheap chains fixed in shapevby dribbling superglue and whatever balls knives mace heads you like (raid that nits box or hit ebay). I built a steampunk version with a wrecking ball. A good place to look for bits are 40k space ork machines on ebay these can be cheap particularly as you are mot fussed if they are intact! You could and platforms for cds or engine bits from space orks. Fill your boots

You could end up with 3 skillcrackers for about £70 I guess.

Plus would fit with an execution herd!

Of course if you are wondering why I have not followed my advice..... saving for bull centaurs!

  3. I am not a competitive player so can’t advise on  the list..Similarly I don’t know the rules in tournament for non FW or GW figures. But FW are not the only miniature company with nice dawi zharr minis. Lots of people at cdo use mantic abyssal dwarves, others like Russian alternative (I think they maybe better mold quality bu not sure). Norba minis look nice but I have heard mixed things about them. I like the look of Scibor but I think there is not much price advantage.

As for war machines I am less sure Fw ones are so nice. Draz is nice too but mantic have a nice  figure, although the Scibor one is my favorite.

I don’t know if anyone on TGA has experience of alternate minis but if you want I can ask around at cdo http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/index.php

If you have to go GW and are not afraid to convert there is lots that might be cheaper. I have a 3000 pt steampunk cd army from gw ebay space orcs and scratch builds

  4. Regarding a proxy skullcracker you could always have a go at building an old style cd tenderiser or whirlwind pushed by a bull centaur. It would fit beautifully thematically with your army. Traditionally the were pushed by boar centaurs but that won’t matter.

    Here are some originals.

I have a poor quality conversion myself but cannot seem to upload the pictire at present. I’ll see what I can do to hive you an idea later

  5. To be honest if we get subfactions it will be because gw or more likely fw think they can sell ip protected minis. At the moment I guess they are hedging their bets and keeping us in there ‘coz they are still selling loa minis and keeping the fluff door opem to sell more Zharr Vyxa  of they think there is a market.

  6. There are loads of theories of where Hashut originally came from  They had a competition  on it over at chos-dwarfs online. But I do like the idea of bringing Hashut back to corporeal form. That would  fit with  my fluff nicely. However to fit with the whole soul wars theme then how about the wizened souls of prisoners fed to him in the soul pyres of his temples? Then at least Nagash could hate us for a good reason!

  7. True Kronos. However in the mortal realms the LoA seems a late/r arrival with ‘furnace kings’ there first. Possibly the LoA is one on the ‘scatteted rulets’ of the bale furnace. Possibly Zharr Vyxa is also a survival of the furnace kings or an offshoot of an earlier common ancestor. As for Hashut will they ever tell us about him?

  8. Looks like we are definitely there and hopefully will be fleshed out. However I suspect neither fw or gw are going to bother with a past history fluff of how we got from the end times  to the arrival of chaos. That I think we will have to fill ourselves.

  10. Michu a chaos Kharadron faction?! Oh wow. I have already made an evil Chaos-dwarf  kharadron count as force for fun.  Please let FW bring out flying cd warscrolls. I am itching to use my big helicopter hat cds. Even got a steampunk cd TIE fighter counts as frigate and cd Death star under construction.

  11. In AoS 2 there is also a mention of a twisted dwarf floating city Zharr Vyxa in Shyish. As for origin myths in AoS there is not much. However the age of myth was so long you can make your own. I have an ‘AoS origin myth’ up in Chaos dwarfs online

don’t know how to do links sorry

have a look if yoi want or just make your owm

  12. Gwendar, I kmow how you feel. It is an amazing mini. I agree it is FW best (I don’t have one sadly but a scratch built one is under construction).  I am still hoping some one can help me justify taking a skull cracker but I guess that is too much to ask!
