  1. I played Murder Host last night with

    Volturnos -general

AoSea -Abyssal Darkness, Sword of Judgement

    1x30 thralls

    4x3 Ishlaen

    2x3 Morsarr

    Fuethan

    1 CP

Scenario was relocation orb.  I placed my boats so he would be bottle necked if he had that side or I'd have 6+ if I go that side and there weren't any better places for them.  I chose sides so I made him take that corner so Ishlaen guard were able to hold him at the bottle neck.  I held the Morsarr back but turn 1, the Ishlaen killed half of the bloodletters on the table and I only lost 2 models.  Also killed a 4 man dog squad.

    Turn 2

He moved a character out of position to chase the objective.  The bloodletters were stuck between the boats and Ishlaen.  He finished off a unit of Ishlaen with his MW prayer ability.   Killed a couple more in combat with the bloodletters. My turn, Morsarr move after the objective and the character that claimed it.  Merc'd him bad.  1 unit of bloodletters gets finished off, second dog unit finished, 2nd bloodletters unit down to 5 models.

    Turn three

He wins priority.  Brings skulltaker to take objective.  Bloodletters all die.  Repositions his characters which is all he has left.  My turn, everything zooms out to character hunt.  He gives up.

I think Ishlaen are stand out units that will eventually get a nerf in the next ghb.

  2. I'm on my phone now so I can't double check like I'd like but I thought I did put the in with higher precision but just formatted to 2 places for visual appeal.  Most people don't understand the concept of Significant Figures anyways.  It wouldn't matter anyways is that the difference of hundredths of a percentage would usually still fall within the Margin of Error so long as the calculations follow the same procedure throughout.

If you mean that six nations list then 1) we don't have other Deepkin lists at tournaments to compare it to and 2) That tournament had an unusual team based format where you were able to choose opponents to an extent and scores were based on aggregate. As for the tide caster if there is an objective I need to hold at the back of the board I'm quite happy to put a tidecaster on it and use Corrasion every turn to do 2-4 mortal wounds reliably assuming nothing is close. If there is something likely to get close I would prefer Ishlaen as they are likely to stick around as opposed to 10 wounds at a 5+ that's likely to die to a stiff breeze.

One thing to consider when looking at maths for damage is what the deterioration due to losses is going to look like. Reavers and thralls, having one wound each, are going to loss their maximum damage potential much faster especially when you consider any attacks with rend reduce that save to a 6+ at best. Ishlaen might not have great damage potential but they are far, far more durable than the Nemarti equivalent. Overall for the same points cost there isn't any reason to include Reavers. Thralls... they are a more complex conversation.

I've been trying to find a way to compare durability to damage all week but you really can't without skewed ratios.  Comparing each stat separately and then putting side by side was the easiest, cleanest,  and most correct way I could think off.  Charts added for nice visual effect.  I think for both categories, Thralls are the champ.  Speed is their biggest downfall but they have the same speed as the average battleline unit.

What is the math you are talking about, particularly compared to other units?  I do think it is worth pointing out that the highest placing tournament list for Deepkin used Reavers.

A tidecaster would not sit an objective  better than Reavers.  I am not sure how much more to say about that.  A tidecaster could dispel from one potentially, but couldn't cast any spells that would matter, and has less wounds.  And although yes Ishlaen would be harder to kill, why would you want them just sitting somewhere without even the chance to reach out and touch someone?

  5. I posted this on the Deepkin facebook page today.  Pay no attention to the D/WD columns because that's still a work in process.  It currently doesn't work the way I intended and it doesn't make much sense as is.  Obviously the sheet doesn't take into account many intangibles like special rules.  The MW damage from the murder turtle isn't in there because it's a replacement effect and would be a significantly more difficult formula and for a 16.7% chance, I couldn't care less.

What are people mounting their eels on? I still don't trust the gw plastic flying posts.

I ordered 1/4 acrylic rod, cut them on a band saw at 1-1/4 to 2 in lengths for variety.  Drilled 1/8 holes into the bottom of the eels about  where that nub is for the flight stand.  Cut that thing off and scrape it flat and clean.  Apply glue into both holes, press a 1/8 round magnet in flush as possible.  Profit.  I order 1/8 dia. x 1/10 tall round magnets for magnetizing my line troops that use standard GW bases and I order them from kjmagnetics.com.  Glue the other end of the rod to the center of the base.  Add sand, rocks, etc for basing and put a little around the base of the rod for a much stronger hold.  You can't spray prime the base without covering the stick but whatever.  Sanded bases typically don't need primer anyways because of the porous nature of the sanded surface.  Now you can store those fiddly models a little safer.

I personally use a clear plastic box with a galvanized steel sheet (you can buy at any local Home Depot or Lowes in sheets of 12-18 inches by 12-24 inches for about $8 US) cut to match the base of the box (approximately 12"x16").  The bases has a magnet under it to stick it to the plate.  The magnet already in the eel can stick it to the plate for easy storage or you can lazy gamer it and throw the bases in a box and store the models in foam or whatever.

Wow, this post made me super depressed about playing Idoneth now as it's going to be my first AoS army ever....everyone (even the store owners) tried to get me to buy either Khorne or Stormcast....but seriously demons and paladins are so...overused.....why I wanted something different, something fresh. Sorry to hear that you had such crappy luck with your army, I'm still going full in with Idoneth even if they are not competitive.

I wouldn't feel depressed.  It was game one with the army with a hodgepodge list of stuff I owned that isn't optimized and my opponent is a great player that spends significantly more time on this game than I do.  I like running lists like this to try out a bunch of the other units that internet "doesn't care about".  If you read everything about Deepkin, it's always about the eels.  I was bad mouthing the Reavers to my opponent because statistically, they're not good and when I actually tried them out, I got exactly what I expected but he swore they were good because he saw a guy at a tournament running 40ish of them take 3rd.  I believe someone could win 3rd at a small local thing of a dozen people but I would bet money someone taking 40+ to Adepticon won't finish in the top 30% and maybe not even the top 50%.  In that post, I had a picture of boxes of eels so I'll be fine in the future.

  8. A couple things this weekend.

    1.  Friday, I picked up the reinforcements for my original purchase.  7 boxes of eels and Malign Sorcery.

    2.  Played my first game with

    Volturnos

Soulrender - Death weapon with bravery check on hits of 6 for D3 MWs.

    AoSea - Ethereal Amulet

    1x20 thralls

    2x10 thralls

    2x10 reavers

    1x3 Ishlaen Guard

    Cogs

    Geminds

    Namarti Corp

A terrible loss.  Barely even considered a game.  Vs new stormcast and they came down from the heavens, surrounded me on 3 sides and just murdered my guys.

Fairly confident that reavers are trash unless you run them into melee.  Using them at long range is garbage.  I'd rather take a more durable unit for less points for objects or Khineri for objectives.  Thralls never got a chance to shine.  There weren't enough of them left after my opponents first strike and swinging into SCE 2-3+ save rerolling 1's isn't going to be good.  The AoSea was disappointing.  I failed every dice roll which is whatever but the last turn, I shot and charged and kill a dude.  Fairly meh for 440 pts.  I'd probably run tidecasters or spellweavers like mentioned earlier in the thread.

    3.  Built my friends new Nighthaunt army.  2 Soul wars boxes worth, a 10 man of something and the new push fit banshees.  Really easy and fast kits to put together.  Something like 80 models in 4.5 hrs with mold line cleaning and a little gap filling for 2-3 models that just would not push together.  I almost bought them last weekend but after looking at there rulebook, glad I didn't.  It's a great army, very durable, lots of MWs but it's just another melee army and I have enough already.

    4.  Probably going to stick with my plan and buy a DoK army in a month or 2.  I love elves.  Malekith was the greatest thing ever.  I want all the new  elves.  They also look much better from a competitive viewpoint compared to Deepkin.

  9. Reavers hit and wound got hit with the nerd bat in the new warscrolls and Ishlaen guard lost immunity to rend replaced with 6+++ ignore wounds.  Just ordered a bunch of eels and won't make a single one now.  All Morsarr now.

  10. I didn't paint it but it's fairly straight from the battletome.  Celestra grey armor, wash with coelia greenshade/medium, highlight with waywatcher green then ulthuan grey.

its the Dhom-Hain scheme minus the nightshade gradient on the arms and the weapon is ushabti instead of leadbelcher.
