This is the opportunity for you all to try out your Fantasy Doubles with a twist using Age of Sigmar with the General’s Handbook rules. Phoenix Gaming Club (a GCN member) will be holding its seventh Doubles Tournament but its first venture into AoS. We hope you will all come and have a great time meeting new people and some old ones! 1000pts each plus a free points Mercenary Gargant (well its the Rumble can't have one without them).

 

Unfortunately due to the lack of numbers and support for this tournament I have been reluctantly forced to cancel this event. First time I have ever had to say that. Look out for next year as we will sort something out. I thank those who have been supportive and apologise for this decision. Those of you who have paid will be fully reimbursed shortly.

When : Saturday 18th March 2017 please arrive at 9.00 am to register – 1st game 09.30

Where : The Rushden Scouts Hall, Brooke Close behind Orbit Tyres which is on Skinners Lane  Rushden NN10 OXH.

Free Parking is available between Duck Street and John Street Rushden. Please note that as there is only limited parking directly outside the Scout Hall, organisers and volunteers will be using it on the day; please therefore do not park directly outside the Scout Hall.

 

 

Cost: £16 for the team (£8.00 each) a slight increase on last year’s price (an increase in Hall Hire fees is the cause). £17 per initial team if paying via Paypal.

I am currently constructing the Rulespack and Battleplan pack.  Edit note 01/12/2016 - Both packs are completed.

We are trying to keep with the spirit of the Rushden Rumble in its old guise but are introducing AoS (as on last count we had 16 AoS players in the Hall the other club night. You will come as an initial team partnership (no battle brothers allowed - no same armies in a team) and their are no restrictions on which army you team up with (except aforementioned). However in rounds two and three you will be all randomly swapped for more crazy mirth and laughter. This is a fun one day tournament with three games. As before the doubles results are fed into a singles results table. Best surviving Gargant and best painted Gargant also up for prizes. More details later when I post up the packs.

I am really happy to see this event appearing on the AoS calendar. I was there last year when it was run as 8th ed. It was my last ever 8th ed tourney and was an excellent and fun event for me. It was a pleasant surprise to see it as AoS this year though, because last year I felt a bit intimidated as an enthusiastic AoS player, by the strength of anti-AoS feeling from many of the other entrants. I presume that sentiment has subsided, and that is why you feel confident running the event as AoS.

The gaming atmosphere was great last year, and the format of swapping double partners each round ended up with me having 3 really fun games, and my son Luke coming 2nd overall! I'm currently trying to arrange my calendar to be able to attend. I've got a genuinely fluffy list in mind already, so hope to see you there.

Thank you for the kind comments about the Rumble. Fortunately it is with the advent of General's Hand Book that has sparked a big interest in our club and with 16 players it seems like (as said before a no-brainer). Unfortunately I was initially sceptical but with the GHB things are looking up. Yes I remember Luke, his face of surprise when he came second was pretty cool. This is also a good part of the tournament as nobody actually knows how they have done compared to others as we do not run a Swiss- system - its just no possible.

Unfortunately I have had to change the date to the 18th March as the 4th of March was double booked. I got told the other night so I have had to change.

So same as everything else above except the date has been changed. I have been exceptionally busy at work with exams coming in to be marked (piles of them) so the packs will be ready by the end of the month.

I can't seem to change the entry in the events calendar if anybody has any tips please and move it to the 18th March.

Pretty interested in this, I'm moving into Northampton early next year and not really sure where to get games so I'm glad to see events pop up in the area.

I know its early doors but apart from PGC members I have had only 2 interested parties. Perhaps its something wrong with the pack or wrong timing of year I am unsure. Are there any people interested in going to this as it may end up being cancelled. This would be a shame as it has run really well over the last 6 years. If anybody could me a heads up of what the problem is I would be grateful. thanks.

Hi Warren, don't lose heart just yet. The last tournament I ran in October had a VERY slow start for entries. Even 3 weeks before it there were only 10 or so entrants, and then it went mad and I sold out - 28 places and 30 odd entrants.

I think that because it's a long time - over three months, until the event, and many people will be like me, looking at their diaries and not wanting to commit to anything until the new year. Also it seems that quite a few events this last year have only had 2-3 months notice so people will be waiting to see if there are other events coming out about that time too.

The good news is that the dates are out for Sheffield Slaughter and SCGT and your event falls nicely between them and there are not normally any other Big events at that time of year. Also I can't find anything else that clashes with the date. So my advice is to be patient for now and certainly don't cancel yet - Luke and I want to play!

My impression is that a lot of the people who were there last year were moving to 9th Age rather than AoS, so you will need to appeal to a different bunch of people - and that can be difficult as many won't have heard of Rushden Rumble as well as there being so many people joining the AoS scene who have never played wargames before. 

I would have a push on social media and forums in mid January, you should get quite a few more takers then. I'm happy to retweet stuff and put the word round generally. Also I found a great way of getting the word around was to get mentioned on a few podcasts - Bad Dice, Age of Sigbrah, Heelanhammer, Bravery One, Facehammer, Tabled, and The Black Sun are all worth contacting as part of a January 'push'. Also ask people to mention your event at all the events they attend in the meantime.

Hang in there Warren. Build it and they will come........

Thanks Paul for words of encouragement its very rare for me to feel this way. I suppose its because as you say appealing to a new genre of players can be difficult if they have no clue what the Rumble was about.  A lot has gone in to convert the scenarios and make them playable for AoS and really fun to do so. It has been a rare thing that someone hasn't enjoyed themselves playing in it. Still we have a lot at the club entering so yes I probably wait until January for a big push. When it was run as 8th ed it was almost full by now. 

I will be done at the club tomorrow to get definitive names on the roster and then add yours.  Thanks again for your support and look forward to seeing Luke and yourself again in 2017.

Still a number of places left. I will be ramping up the promotion of this at the end of the month as I am sorting a number of life changing things such as a job move.  Just let me know if you wish in and I will put you on my list of attendees.

Having been swayed by the number of people at the Phoenix club who play AoS . The date has been set for the last few months now and it appears to have a very slow uptake. As we know the hall has to be paid for and this cannot done without the entrant fees for the tournament. There are others outside of the club that have expressed an interest with a least one team paying so far. This simply won't cover the hall hire cost alone never mind the trophies. I will push this now for two more weeks and if people have not given names and a paypal payment by then then I will reluctantly have to cancel the tournament which is a massive shame. 

So again everyone please let me know within the next two weeks or I will have to pull the plug and reimburse those who have paid.

Really sorry to hear this Warren. We were looking forward to it greatly.

The 'Leeds Last Stand' group are looking to run an event in July (we ran 3 last year), and I love the 'random doubles' format you run at Rumble. Would you have any objections if we pinched a chunk of your tournament idea and tried to run one here? We haven't decided on a definite format yet, but yours is a strong contender.

I would be honoured if you did! Obviously we would like to get some acknowledgement and "thumbs up" if you did (I.P. et al). What is done at the Rumble is an excellent idea and can be used in other tournaments you run. Besides I doubt very much that the Rumble would run as AoS due to the poor turn out, so by all means give it a go! (You could even nick the scenarios if you want as they would be redundant for us now). Not bad you have an already made tourney ready to go.
