  1. So I've had a decent amount of Stormcast sitting there for a while unpainted, have been undecided on a Stormhost for a while so decided to make my own up with the Argent Lions, a Vanguard Heavy Stormhost so far, although I am eyeing up the Sequitors.... So I decided to finally sit down and get started on them with my favourite model so far, the Lord Aquilor Decided on a peacock inspired Gryph Charger which I'm very happy with!

  3. On Sunday I attended a small 1000 point tournament at my local game store and thought I would share some summarised battle reports and general thoughts which other Khorne players will hopefully find useful. Although traditionally a 2000 point player I am starting to enjoy the nuance of 1000 point games and the challenge of writing take all comers lists. After more than a few variations I settled on the following list; Allegiance: Khorne Mortal Realm: Ghyran Daemon Prince of Khorne (160) - General - Trait: Immense Power - Artefact: Ghyrstrike Aspiring Deathbringer (80) - Bloodaxe and Wrath Hammer Bloodstoker (80) Slaughterpriest (100) - Blood Blessing: Killing Frenzy 5 x Blood Warriors (100) - Goreaxe & Gorefist 5 x Flesh Hounds (100) 5 x Chaos Knights (160) - Chaos Glaives 5 x Skullreapers (170) - Daemonblades - 1x Soultearers Total: 950 / 1000 Extra Command Points: 1 The Daemon Prince with Immense Power and Gyrstrike is a beast for his 160 points (I wrote about it here;) The aim for the Knights is to get a charge in ASAP to keep my opponent busy while the Skull Reapers advanced behind supported by the Aspiring Deathbringer. The Bloodwarriors were just there to objective camp while the flesh hounds would sue their speed to plug holes or chase distant objectives. Game 1 vs Slaanesh (Take & Hold) My opponent brought a Herald on Exalted Seeker Chariot, Herald on foot, Alluress, Soul Grinder, 1 x 3 Fiends and 2 x 10 Daemonettes. I charged the fiends with the knights, knowing the fiends do more damage to multi wound models but thinking that if I could just get 2 of my glaive attacks through I would kill one and be well on my way to holding that flank long enough for the daemon prince and skullreapers to work through the rest of the army. Sadly my glorious charge resulted in only 2 wounds caused with the -1 to hit from the fiends proving disastrous for me (the slaughter priest failing Killing Frenzy on them certainly didn’t help). Over the next two rounds of combat the fiends wiped the knights without taking another wound. The Soul Grinder and Alluress were taking pot shots at the Skull reapers as they plodded up field, eventually getting into melee with a unit of daemonettes and struggled badly to finish them off, while the flesh hounds took on the other damonette unit, drawing the exalted chariot into melee in the process (spoiler: it didn’t go well for the hounds). The Daemon Prince sensed his chance to make a difference and flew over the lines to successfully wipe out the Exalted chariot however died to the fiends the following turn. We ran out of time just as I was starting my turn at the bottom of the 3rd round, with the fiends, soulgrinder and a summoned unit of seekers bearing down on the blood warriors guarding my home objective. By then I was sitting on 8 Bloodtithe, having not used a point all game, with only the stoker and a single skull reaper remaining. The stoker had moved to the centre of the board by then so I was planning to summon a herald to then summon 10 flesh hounds for a desperate charge on his home objective being guarded by a summoned unit of 5 x daemonettes however I was completed zoned out from being able to even fit the herald in. I would have liked to have summoned a Bloodthirster instead for the 8 tithe and attempt to earn some kill points, assuming he made his charge, but we were out of time and I wouldn’t have been able to make up the difference anyway so we called it there. Result: Minor Loss on kill points (600 to 360) Thoughts: Since Wraith & Rapture dropped Slaanesh is a really bad match up for khorne and I was left pretty unimpressed by the melee prowess of my army versus his. Having to reroll hits of 6 is brutal on Skullreapers (and Bloodletters, not that that I had any) not to mention the negative hit debuffs and I found my units generally outclassed in melee which is all kinds of wrong for the god of war vs the god of enjoying stuff. I haven’t used Skullreapers that much and found them fairly uninspiring; elite khorne murderers that hit on 4+, no rend and 1 damage? The mortal wounds from daemonblades are nice when they happen but the fact they can rebound if you roll a 1 is not cool. Even the leader with his Soultearer and mutation failed to do much this game. My poor rolling did not help my impression of these guys so will run them again but geez, they would want to start performing. The slaughter priest also failed to turn up, only passing bloodboil once for a couple of wounds before the Soulgrinder lined him up and put him out of his misery. Meanwhile all I achieved by killing his exalted chariot with the Daemon Prince was gifting him enough depravity points to immediately summon another one if he so chose. Overall a tough game and a matchup I expect will continue to be a nightmare for the foreseeable future. Game 2 vs Nurgle (Total Commitment) Funny situation this one. My opponent brought the wrong case of models by mistake and so instead of the Tzeencth army he had planned and practiced with he played a Nurgle list featuring the Glotkin, a Herald, and 3 x 10 Plaguebearers (with no gnarlmaws). Such is life. In further hilarity we were supposed to be playing Scorched Earth but I left him to set up the table and he accidentally swiped his ipad left and set up the wrong scenario. We didn’t realise until turn 2 or 3 and so played it out anyway- I was glad as Scorched Earth seems to come up a lot as a tournament battle plan and Total Commitment doesn’t affect either of our armies (in terms of having to set up your whole army on the table with no reserves). Its also kind of cool how the battle is fought down both flanks given there are no central objectives which makes for a much different tactical challenge. I matched up the daemon prince, knights and slaughter priest against the glotkin and 10 x plaguebearers on my left objective while the flesh hounds, blood warriors, skullreapers, stoker and deathbringer went after the Herald and 2 x 10 Plaguebearers on the right hand objective. The combined charge of daemon prince and knights on the Glottkin managed 14 wounds (out of 18) but he slowly healed up from there and eventually wiped both units. However the knights lasted long enough for me to overwhelm the right hand side and hold 3 out of 4 objectives for a turn (which gave me a crucial 1 VP lead) before he killed my priest and took my home objective to square it up again. As we were playing on a 6x4 table we were too far away from each other to meet in the middle and so it stayed that way up until turn 5. In hindsight I probably should have sent the daemon prince after the unit of 10 plaguebearers camping his left hand objective but it didn’t matter in the end. Result: Major Win (by 1 VP) Thoughts: a fun and close game. Going so close to killing the Glottkin was pretty cool and it was touch and go as to who would secure the opponent’s objective first. I didn’t spend a single Bloodtithe point all game as I always had it in my mind that I would need to summon in order to threaten the left hand objective once I’d secured the right side however the way the last 2 turns played out there was really no point. As such I continue to be very underwhelmed by our allegiance ability as for the second game in a row I basically operated without any allegiance benefits from it whatsoever. Game 3 vs Karadron Overlords (Relocation Orb) My Opponent brought an Admiral, Khemist, allied battlemage, Gunhauler, 3 x Endrinriggers, 2 x 10 Arkanauts and 1 x 10 allied Dwarven Ironbreakers. I gave him the first turn so he moved the gun hauler to the middle to claim the objective while the rest of the dwarves moved up slowly behind. The knights charged the gun hauler in my turn and caused exactly enough wounds to take it out and claim the objective. The orb then moved my way in range of my hounds, I won the double turn so the hounds took the orb while the knights charged the endrin riggers, killing 2 and wounding the 3rd who singlehandedly killed a knight in return before running away to battleshock. A combination of shooting and melee from the Admiral accounted for the knights however their job was well and truly done by then. From there it was a slowish slugfest as my Daemon Prince, skull reapers and warriors churned their way through the Dwarven infantry. A highlight was the Daemon Prince flying over the lines and splitting his attacks to kill both the Khemist and Battlemage in one round of melee (before being pin cushioned by Skyhooks in the next round). Another highlight was using 2 bloodtithe to dispel chain lightning from the battlemage, my only use of bloodtithe in 3 games! A funny situation arose as the Dwarven Ironbreakers held the line in a forest and were the last unit to die in the 5th round despite me throwing everything I had left at them. At one point the wounded Skullreaper leader was charged and surrounded by 10 Arkanauts who failed to finish him off (it was a real “stands alone!” moment for any Rerolling One’s fans out there), he then killed them all with a little help from the Aspiring Deathbringer, and then in my turn the skullreaper leader charged the remaining 2 ironbreakers in an effort to finally finish them off, whiffed all his attacks and was killed by them in return. Result: Major Win (6 VP to 1 VP + tabled my opponent) Thoughts: Poor Karadron, they seem so limited at the moment but are such a cool looking army and concept; I really hope GW give them some love soon. Admittedly I was pretty lucky with the way the orb bounced around as I could always get to it when I wanted. Also winning the double turn in round 2 meant I could take out the Endrinriggers which meant it was my game to lose from there. I finally got to use bloodtithe! As it was only a beginners tournament the full results were not released however with 2 major wins and a minor loss I believe I would have finished 2nd or 3rd out of 7. Although I love how brutal the Daemon Prince can be in combat with the combination of trait and artifact I gave him, he dies so easily in return that Im not yet convinced if he is the best option or how best to use him. As stated earlier I feel Skullreapers are slightly underwhelming and really need to be buffed hard with extra attacks and killing frenzy (being stoked is essential), at least until they activate all their rerolls. Getting them into combat before they are shot to bits is a challenge in itself while an “elite unit” that hits on 4’s with no rend and 1 damage, particularly one in a khorne army, just doesn’t feel right. I still love my chaos knights, even though they failed miserably against the fiends and underperformed against the Glottkin, they pretty much won me the 3rd game and stayed alive just long enough for me to win the 2nd. Given the rule tweaks I was tempted to try out Bloodcrushers this time around however after the knights once again did a job for me I think the Juggerlads will stay in the summoning box (that is if I ever get the chance to actually use some blood tithe!). The slaughterpriest was dicey as I knew he would be outside gorepilgrims but I was pleased with the Aspiring Deathrbinger and the Bloodstoker always pulls his weight. If anyone has any questions/comments about the list/tactics/opposing armies etc send them my way. Thanks for reading and, as always, BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!
  4. Hi, this is my take on a Soulstrike Brotherhood army. I usually run an Aquilor+Hunters+Palladors list, so for 120 points, two small units of Castigators (which are bad but a bit better with the bonus) and a Ballista I already wanted to field, I get a CP and the additional artifact. I wanted to try Anvils with Longstrikes, I know I would get a lot more mileage from a bigger unit, but I will likely use the CA in the combat units beyond turn 1. I think it's an interesting list, biased towards shooting but with some magic and CC punch into the mix. Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals - Stormhost: Anvils of the Heldenhammer Leaders Lord-Aquilor (200) - General - Mount Trait: Aethereal Stalker Lord-Arcanum on Tauralon (340) - Mount Trait: Steel Pinions Lord-Relictor (100) Battleline 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (120) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (120) - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes 5 x Judicators (160) - Skybolt Bows - 1x Shockbolt Bows Units 3 x Castigators (80) 3 x Castigators (80) 3 x Vanguard-Palladors (200) - Boltstorm Pistols and Starstrike Javelins 5 x Evocators (200) 3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows(180) War Machines Celestar Ballista (100) Battalions Soulstrike Brotherhood (120) Total: 2000 / 2000 2x Hunters, 2x Castigators and the Celestar Ballista on the sky, rest on the ground. My questions for you are: -What would be better for that list, Lord Relictor or Castellant? Relictor would have Blessed Weapons (to buff Palladors before they teleport, Longstrikes or Judicators) and could heal someone brought back by Cycle. Lord Castellant would bring the hound to help guard the backline from deepstrikes, and use his lantern on one of the redeploying units (Lord Aquilor, Palladors), on the LAoT before he goes forward or on the backline units. Both sound useful. -Who should get the crappy artifact? Then, which one would you recommend for the other? Please, if possible, no Lens. I'm already sick of seeing it in lists ?. In fact, please don't suggest Realms artifacts (I hate that they are usually clearly better than Battletome ones). -What spell sounds better for the LAoT? Thundershock sounds potentially powerful for close-range support. Stormcaller to put pressure on lone heroes is also cool. Celestial Blades could help my few CC units, and Speed of Lightning could be useful (but for a single turn, when my CC units drop). Thanks for any help! I think this kind of collective thought helps us all to polish the potential of the army.
  5. Hi all! Recently started playing and painting a stormcast vanguard chamber force. I really enjoy the look and feel of the newer models! So far I have the following1k force built: Lord-Aquilor Knight-Venator 2x5 Hunters 3x Palladors 3x Lonstrike Raptors In terms of painting, I'm currently working on gryph chargers and absolutely loving them - making it up a bit as I go along but they are really stretching me and making me try new things. Here's how the one with the most work done to it looks: Looking forward to getting this one finished - the other 2 and Aquilor shouldn't be too far behind ?
  6. Hi all, As a break from a larger Dark Eldar collection (which is itself a break from a Blood Angels legionary army...) I've started a Vanguard chamber. The aim is a smaller force than my prior death log on here (the Ophidian empire) - looking at 1500 worth, along with the odd bit I fancy painting for fun (mistweaver?). Likely a unit of Palladors, a couple of units of hunters, some birds and shooty stuff and done. It's inspired by buying Neave Blacktalon separately, and having had so much fun painting it so far, I looked into the army book, made another purchase... and now that's it. Progress on Neave so far, and my second miniature/general (boxed). Aim is to buy/build a unit at a time - as a reward, to prevent 'half-finished' syndrome and to stop the volume from becoming overwhelming. This approach worked well in keeping disciplined during my undead project. On Neave - I'm trying a variant scheme based on a tip I had from Dan Latham a few years ago. Using reds and browns for shading. Started with chaos black, then a scorched brown layer, then 60/40 gold/brown, then gold, then 50/50 gold/steel for my layers Done a baal red shade, in recesses only but quite heavy, followed by agrax (lesser). Next up a dark black/brown before the higlights start to really get some depth. Probably will accidentally overdo this step and mess the miniature up somewhat! Will them move past the basic layers done on the other part and finish up, likely an hour or so a night til the end of the week. Think mixing 50/50 or so gold and steel really works as a layer. Leads to better coverage and a lighter gold that catches the light better than the 'official' Hammers of Sigmar scheme (as on the below box art). The red recess shades makes it warmer again without losing that brightness. You'd normally expect paler golds to have a greener tint, the red makes it more naturally unnatural in a way - perfect for sigmarite. For basic troops I may cave in and do the basic reikland flesh-shade wash to save time, unsure yet, this hasn't been the most time-consuming miniature to paint and I'm only look at about 40 miniatures in the army, max. .
  7. Hello everyone! My friends and I started playing AoS a while ago and I played a few games with the Stormcast from the starter box. Now I'd like to run a Vanguard heavy list because they just look so cool and seem very interesting. So here's what i came up with: Lord-Aquilor (200) Neave Blacktalon (120) Lord-Celestant On Dracoth (220) - Tempestos Hammer & Thundershield Units 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (140) 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (140) 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (140) 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (140) 3 x Vanguard-Palladors (220) 3 x Vanguard-Palladors (220) 6 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (360) 1 x Gryph-Hound (40) 3 x Aetherwings (60) => 2000 Points What do you think? Is this any good? What would you change? Please let me know!
  8. I have a problem, I love Stormcast, I like their lore, their aesthetics, their mounts and everything they have. However, when I finally decided to buy, mount and paint I found that it is hard for me to continue painting them. For example, except for small differences my archers have the same armor as my infantry and I get the feeling of having painted the same miniature for two weeks. I understand that it is something normal, almost all the armies share an aesthetic among their miniatures so instead of blaming the game I am thinking about changing a bit. Right now I have two Vanguard-Hunters squads and one Lord Aquilor. I am hesitating between buying some other army to vary a bit (Ironjawz, Khorne, or Slaves maybe, I like a lot of armies) or take advantage of my minis and play Order instead of Stormcast. I'm pretty bad at making lists and my group is not too competitive but do you have any advice or any idea what units could come with my Vanguard in an Order army? Thanks in advance.
  9. So I'm real newbie when it comes to gaming so I would love some input on this list I've thought up. I love the Vanguard models so I wanted to start out with a 1k vanguard list and I've noticed they don't seem to be a popular choice for competitive list but I wanted to see if a semi-competitive list were at all possible. Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals Heroes: Lord-Aquilor (200) - General - Command trait: Staunch Defender - Artefact : Spellshield - Gryph-Charger Trait : Keen-clawed Units: 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (140) 5 x Vanguard-Hunters (140) 3 x Vanguard-Palladors (220) 3 x Vanguard-Palladors (220) 3 x Prosecutors with Stormcall Javelins (80) - 1 x Stormsurge Tridents Total: 1000/1000 I don't feel the need to be fully Vanguard but I kinda like Aquilor, Pallador and hunter trio so I will try to keep those. Perhaps one could remove one unit of Palladors and the Prosecutors for something else but as I said I'm a really in-experienced player so I'm not clear on my armies weaknesses and needs so I would some experienced input on that. Thanks in advance!
  10. Hey all. Thanks for moseying on over and taking a gander. On the advice of the all-powerful Ben Curry, he of The Bad Dice Daily Podcast fame, I am starting a little blog here. The hope is putting my thoughts and efforts here will motivate me to continue pushing toward my ultimate goal - completing an army. I have been playing Warhammer for about 8 years now, exclusively with close friends and family. Never having played at a tournament and being in such a relaxed environment, there's never been any pressure to complete an army. I started with Dark Elves and Ogre Kingdoms back in 8th Edition. I would guess I got about 60-70% of both armies painted to a table-top standard. I had a lot of fun playing both of those armies. Had a fair amount of fun painting them, too. Particularly the Ogres - painting the 21st through 30th Witch Elves got to be a bit of a chore. But in both cases, life happened, I lost steam and they sat unfinished. A career change right after the completion of the End Times took me away from the hobby for about 18 months. Once I got re-settled, I began reading about Age of Sigmar and what people thought. I was intrigued. I enjoyed 8th Edition, but the games could be a bit tedious. I liked that AoS was streamlined and the cost-of-entry wasn't so steep. I toyed around with the idea of using my Dark Elf and Ogre Kingd- er, Aelf and Ogor models - for a bit. But once I saw the Ironjawz release, good ol' Gee-Dubs had me hook, line and sinker. I bought a Start Collecting box, a Megaboss and Weirdnob straight away and got painting. I really enjoyed painting the heroes. The Megaboss in particular was a joy to paint. The Gore Gruntas are amazing models, but they are soul-suckingly difficult to paint. After I tackled them, I settled in to paint the Ardboyz. I finished both units, but I my hobby engine was running on fumes at that point. This was back in the Summer. Since then, I've added a Maw Crusha, 3 more Gruntas and 20 Brutes. The Maw Crusha is finished, and I'm pretty proud of it. But again, it was such an awesome model, I couldn't NOT paint it. 5 of the Brutes are mostly done...but that's where it's stopped. I do plan on coming back to them, but I have a serious case of Ironjawz fatigue at the moment. Which brings us to the nonce! Thanks to TGA member @Kuma, I was able to trade for a decent start to a Stormcast army. I got 2 Lords Celestant on Dracoth, 10 Judicators and 10 Liberators for some old Tomb Kings stuff I was never going to use. Through the magic of eBay, I was also able to procure a Lord Relictor. Talk about the stars aligning: this happened right before the Vanguard stuff all began to drop, so since then I've added 6 Raptors, a box of Palladors and a Lord Aquillor. I love the potential of this army. Also, the fact that GW is unlikely to let this faction languish without support for any appreciable amount of time is quite appealing. I am resolved to make this the first army I will finish. The fluff and aesthetic of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer were way too cool to pass up, so that's the route I'm going to go. I've just settled into painting and have done up a test model - a Liberator - in this fashion. And so, the race to 2000 points of painted Stormcast is on! That's all for this evening I guess. I'll post up some preliminary pictures tomorrow. Thanks for checking out my ramblings. See you again soon.

  15. So I was playing around with the idea for this list. Not really designed to be competitive, more just for amusing play with my friends. The Bloodhorde Leaders: Aspiring Deathbringer - General (Grants +1 to attacks to all Khorne Mortal units within 6") Bloodstoker or Skullgrinder(?) (Either get more reliable charge move and re-roll 1's to wound OR get a far less reliable but potentially devastating boost to the amount of wound rolls I'd put out) Bloodsecrator (Offers protection from magic while negating battleshock and grants double bonus to Reaver's attack plus a single +1 to everyone else's attacks). Slaughterpriest (Potentially draws units in to be unwillingly mulched by the horde and provides ranged support to soften up targets as well). Battleline: Bloodreavers (20) (The meat....) Bloodreavers (20) (... and potatoes) Blood Warriors (5) (Would either move freely of the blob or skim the perimeter to engage threats against important pieces, would work with Khorgorath). Behemoth: Chaos Warshrine (Potentially grants Re-rolls to hits for Khorne Mortals and gives 6+ save to all units in addition to armor saves, also grants Totem bonus to Bloodreavers in lieu of Bloodsecrator, should he fall). Other: Khorgorath (1) (Works with Blood Warriors or alone as a potential distraction). 1000 Points Basically a giant bloody death star, with all of the units piled in around the Aspiring Deathbringer General and the Warshrine, with the Bloodsecrator using the Shrine to hide from view. Blood Warriors and Khorgorath would essentially operate as one unit and would move freely from the blob or engage anything that might threaten the Bloodsecrator. Not sure if I should go with the 'Stoker to get a reliable wound re-roll and charge, or risk it on the 'Grinder to get a potentially devastating amount of wound rolls (especially given the amount of +1's to attack the 'Reavers will be getting from the General and Bloodsecrator). Also, instead of Blood Warriors and a Khorgorath, should I go with 5 Wrathmongers? With the amount of attacks I'd be putting out anyways, their might not be anything left of an attacking unit to worry about my opponent getting a boost.
