  1. Hello guys, im new to AoS and im terrible at doing lists in any kind of game, like hearthstone magic or other wargames lotr or 40k. I dont have a lot money to expend right now, so i want to do some lists with what i already have. 1000 p and 2000 p. for casual game. Can you give me some help. https://pastebin.com/iGh2D2zT This is what i have. Thanks in advance
  2. Hello Group Mind ((TL/DR version of this post: help me, effectively a newbie (I last played WH in 2012), put together a 1500 point dark elf (aelf?) list. Skip to the last paragraph to see my initial list, please critique.)) After a seven year rage quit, I think I’m ready to try AoS 3e. I want to take my old army - Dark Elves - and make them AoS complaint. The think is I don’t want to invest any more cash than I already have (at least now), and I’d like to be at least be kind of competitive (if possible). I want to make a 1500 point list from the ground up, at least to start. What I have in my collection is as follows: Sorceress on black dragon One unbuilt black dragon and rider kit One 10 man unit a spears and one 30 man unit a spears 7 dark riders One 10 man unit of Xbows and one 20 unit of Xbows one twenty man unit of Corsairs A ridiculous number of Cold One cav (more than 30) 10 executioners 30 black guard 2 Hydras An assortment of characters: at least 2 sorceresses (and a sorcerer! That’s how old some of this army is ..) and seven or eight assassins (and a Beast-Lord on manticore who’ll never see the battlefield again 🤬) Other units like (lots of) witch elves, artillery, and skirmishers which don’t have rules anymore or I can’t take in a CoS list. So honestly, my first idea for a list is something like a Dark Lord on Dragon (300), 2 10 man Cold One Cav (300 X 2), 2 hydras (170 X 2), 2 sorceresses (160) and a unit of dark shards (100) for 1500 points. How does this list sound? Also, if you’re not already bored of my post, what would you do next for another 500 points? Thanks so much in advance everybody!!
  3. Hi legends, I played WFB back in the day and have been just playing 40k for the last 15 years or so.. My Beerhammer group is starting to look into AOS to get away from space marines for a while! I have a number of fat mats and heaps of terrain for 40k but how important is terrain in AOS? How much should cover the table and what sort of configuration would you suggest? Bonus points - I see heaps of 3rd party 40k style terrain out there, what can you recommend for AOS? Double bonus - show me your tables for inspiration!!! Cheers.
  4. Hey guys! Age of Sigmar Freshman here, starting out with Nighthaunt at 2000 points. I‘m going to play in a very competitive environment, so I want to get the most out of my attempt. Due to the fact I‘m pretty new to the game (not to tabletop or competitive play in general), I will definitly need some help. Some facts beforehand: - I want to stay with the Nighthaunt for now and not playing as Legion of Grief. Nagash allies could be a thing though - It‘s not all about winning (i.e. copycat lists). I rather enjoy the process of getting the most out of an army over time - I have played only one game so far, so I‘m lacking practical experience in general and probably even basic skills. However, this is a huge part when it comes to building proper lists. So keep this in mind: anything I come up with now, is based on pure theorycrafting after reading the battletome The Shroudguard will be my core force. The Knight of Shrouds is buffed up by his trait, ability and artefact to make the Bladegheist Revenants even more durable. The Spirit Torment is boosting their offensive output. Grimghast Reapers strike out of reserve, harassing the opponent in his deployment zone and/or contest objectives Lady Olynder is backed up by my Chainrasp Horde and the Guardian of Souls. Prismatic Pallisade for extra protection. So what do you think? For me (the noob) this sounds like a solid approach. I know, Nighthaunt is not top tier right now, but as I mentioned before, this is not about winning at all costs. It‘s more about creating a proper list that could work in general. Would be awesome if you could spare some thoughts about the list and point out its weaknesses or some possible improvements. Thanks in advance!
  5. Hello, I'm new to AOS and unsure if it's the best place to ask such a question. I'm looking to get into AOS, thinking of Tzeench with this list: - Chaos Sorcerer Lord - Ogroid Thaumaturge - 2 Chaos Chariot - 10 chaos knights - 10 chaos warriors Total: 990 points This is basically 2 start collecting slave to darkness plus Ogroid Thaumaturge. A relatively cheap way to start for Games Workshop. Would this list be viable for meeting engagements? I was thinking of only taking 3 screamers for summoning, is it enough?
  6. So I've snagged a couple of Khorne start collecting boxes and the new battletome. I've made posts on other forums but a kind stranger said this is the best place for advice. I'm currently reading throught the Khorne mega-thread and I'm a bit overwhelmed. What sort of lists can I play at around 1000pts? Any tactical advice? What should I buy next? Command traits and relics are especially confusing for me. The models I have are: 1 x Mighty Lord of Khorne 1 x Bloodsecrator 1 x Bloodstoker 1 x Slaughterpriest with Hack-blade and Wrath-hammer 1 x Khorgorath 3 x Mighty Skullcrushers 15 x Blood Warriors 10 x Bloodreavers 1 x Karanak 5 x Flesh Hounds
  7. Hey all. What got me into the hobby was a find on my local buy/sell website of a whole army for a symbolical price. I was looking for some dnd miniatures and I found this guy who hasn't played in years and just wanted to get rid of the rest of his minis. A whole army of 2004 minis for 25€. A good find, if I do say so my self! I played my first game with a friend and loved it (stormcast-nurgle)... Now I have an army to build! What I got in the deal: 1 Exalted hero of chaos 1 Chaos sorcerer lord (mounted) 10 Warriors of chaos 10 Chaos marauders 3 Screamers 5 Seekers of Slaanesh There's a chariot there, but I dunno who's supposed to ride it, and I think there's only one horse dragging it, as opposed to two that are usually portrayed in the AOS images. And some extra metal minis that just might be for warhammer as well. Might be a single mounted marauder, dunno. You think it's a viable army for AOS? What are some strategies I should be looking into? How to improve the army? Any guidance would be much appreciated!
  8. Hey guys! New-ish (played half a dozen games using a friend's spare armies and read a lot, but don't own any models personally except for a lone Tomb Banshee) player here. I have a question regarding allies and battalions. I'm putting together a Legions of Nagash list using (most) of the Nighthaunt side of the Soul Wars box and a few favorite models of mine from Legions (Tomb Banshee, Vamp Lord, Terrorgeist, etc.) So, basically, I want to include the Nighthaunt battalion Chainguard (The Guardian of Souls + Chainrasp one) in my Legions army. The required models for this battalion, being in the Soul Wars box, are in Legions of Nagash. The battalion, however, is not. Is it actually possible to get a battalion from outside of your Allegiance? Obviously, this is a special case as all the models in question reside in both Nighthaunt and Legions. Could I ally in exclusively the battalion and use the Legions-keyworded version of the models for the battalion? I ask mainly because allying in all of the battalion and models not only screws with my Battleline requirements but also goes over the 400 point allies limit. Thanks for the help!
  9. Hello all! New to the forum and to the game and somewhat new to the hobby (dabbled in Warmachine and 40k), and am looking to get into the Death because...well, in every game I’ve ever played the first step for me is “look if there is a way to play necromancer effectively.” The thing is, I want to do it all. Nighthaunt interests me mostly because I looooooove the way they look. Reikenor can steal my soul any day. That said, I’m also a huge fan of drowning my opponents in skeleton hordes while my heavy hitters smash into their flanks. I also (eventually, waaaaay down the line) want to work Nagash in...did I mention I GM a lot of RPGs? So...any advice on how to get started? I’m a blank page, so I’m open to any suggestions. I’m also not in a rush since I’m in the process of moving and won’t be dropping purchases in the near future. Thanks in advance!
  10. As title, played 1st game with my kids today, for a long time since AoS launched and think I made some basic errors. 1) Had a situation where a chariot moved along the tables edge, ending its move just under 3" away from an opposing unit in combat to the chariots rear. It had room to squeeze through, but its back end was about 2.5" from the back end of the enemy. This isn't legit is it? Ie: within 3". Even if intention is clearly to go past. I let it happen as my daughter intended to charge a bolt thrower at the end of the table, but another opponent could have attacked the rear of the unit already in combat. 2) Combat phase. Player whose turn it is chooses first combat, but after, it goes back and forth picking units, irrespective of charges and whose turn? Unless a special rule overrides? 3) If a unit is attacked by one unit and survives, then is attacked by a second unit and survives, does on both occasions it get to return melee? Eg: hydra attacks dragon. Doesn't kill dragon. Dragon returns. Drakespawn attacks dragon, does dragon get to fight again? 4) Resolving damage for multiple damage weapons. You roll to save vs wounds? Eg: 3 wounds suffered, you save two, other failed. Its a 2 wound weapon, so you take two wounds. Damage occurs after save? There may well have been other mistakes, but having watched a few bat reps I think I got the jist enough for open play!
  11. Hi all, I've been a tabletop gamer for little under 5 years, transitioning over from Magic The Gathering and Warmachine. The more spikier aspects of of the WMH community put me off the game a little and I'm more or less done with the system for know as nothing new or interesting has been coming out for my faction (I am a 1 faction type of collector). Some people find it odd that my entry point into the tabletop gaming scene was through Warmachine instead of one of the many different Games Workshop games out there but honestly, nothing Games Workshop ever made prior to Age of Sigmar interested me due to how wide their lines were and the barrier of entry was pretty high at the time for WH40K and WHFB. Now that I am older, with a bit more painting experience under my belt thanks to Warmachine and more disposable, when Age of Sigmar came about, it presented me with an opportunity to go into a new system and it seems the timing was just right as I seem to be riding on a wave of significant management changes in GW itself. When the Kharadron Overlords were introduced, I think I fell in love with the Steampunk aesthetic (no surprises seeing as I was coming off Warmachine) and the fact that they are dwarves on flying ships. So one night after getting beat again at WMH, I figured that I needed to reassess what I really wanted out of this tabletop hobby. Maybe the ass kicking I got weakened my resolve but I picked up a box of Arkanaut Company just to paint. And now I am hooked. Working through the Battleforce Box as I type this (still trying to decide if Endrinriggers or Skywardens are the way to go long-term) but I should hope to finish most of them off my early march in time to work on the new Start Collecting box. Hopefully I will have a decent 1000 pts to field for a learning game or 2. Look forward to sharing more on my progress and interacting with you guys more.
  12. So I've been through a roller coaster ride since I started this blog. Firstly, my friends bought 40k "Start Collecting" boxes each with the intention of playing again, I followed suit, but the enthusiasm seems to have died as quickly as it sparked. Then I purchased a faulty primer spray from an LGS where I play Magic, which set me back a week and covered my kitchen in Chaos Black! Then after my SCE finally got primed, I painted a test model for Celestial Vindicators. By paint I mean I base coated and shaded the armour. I wasn't very happy with the model at all, a combination of a non-basic colour scheme and my lack of recent painting experience made for a bit of a messy first try. I wasn't looking for Golden Demon, but I wanted to feel happy with what I produced. Then I found the series on Warhammer TV of a step by step painting of the entire AoS starter set. I figured, what did I have to lose? Base coat another Liberator in gold and see where we go. One afternoon of full on hobbying later and I'm here. With 5 Liberator's base coated and washed and I couldn't be happier. Yeah, every man and his dog is going to have a gold SCE army, but who cares? This one is going to be mine. I know these pictures are really not anything to write home about but it made me happy to actually make some progress I'm satisfied with. Going to throw some Auric Armour Gold (as instructed by Duncan!) tomorrow and build up some of the other models from the set. Baby steps people, baby steps.
  13. In the past I have tried to get into the hobby that I use to love to play as a teenage kid. Some attempts have been more successful than others. Three years ago I managed to paint up a sizeable high elf army. I enjoy painting and wanted to do a good job. It took a year to paint and by the time I got near it's completion my interest waned and real life took hold. The large of rules and time everything took wasn't compatible with my lifestyle and short attention span. If you want you can check out my old painting blog over at Bad Dice forums: http://baddice.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2099 I was excited to hear about the launch of AOS. Firstly, the 4 page rules and "dumbed down" game play sounded appealing. I liked the idea of everyone starting out together, levelling the playing field a little. However I never got around to sticking my toe in. What spare hobby time I did have was spent painting the odd miniature here and there but never anything AOS. It wasn't till last month when away for a short break in Cornwall I popped into their local GW store. I would normally keep away from stores a few years back for fear of the pushing selling staff; however my recently experiences have actually been really positive. We had a good chat with the staff there (I think his name was John?), the Mrs showed an interest and picked out a few models she likes and kindly brought me the AOS start box . This time I thought I would try and approach things a little differently than my last foray into hobbying. I tweeted in hope of finding local players who fancied a game and a beer, luckily this was re-tweeted out by a few people in the community with big followings and have now arranged to hook up with a few local players. We have agreed to meet and play a few smallish skirmish games so we can get playing and build up a little at a time. I also popped into my local GW store in Bath and had a great chat to Robin. He has pointed me in the direction of a local club as well as inviting me down for his Thursdays game night at sore. My plan is to drop by both in the coming months. I am planning on getting the Stormcast from the starter set painted quickly so I can play straight away. Whilst doing this, it allows me time to get to find out more about the story and decide what army I would like to a better standard. I have got myself the handbook, the war storm novel and the getting started book (which was surprisingly good, as well as excellent value). I am well on my way to doing this. This week I have have got 8 liberators and one Prosecutor finished. The Mrs really liked the "Hammer Angel" model, so that was the first one to hit the desk. I have also bumped out one base colour & wash on the 3 Retributors and the 2 Liberator-Primes and my plan is to finish these for the end of the week. Again not my finest work but it will get me playing and enjoying other parts of the hobby. I have started on the base and hope to have that finished this week .... if the filler ever dries. If you have any helpful hints or advice about getting back into the hobby I would love to hear it. And if you live local please feel free to get in touch, it would be great hearing from you. Cheers Danish
