  1. The votes are in, and while for a moment it looked like I might be facing a 3 way tie, in the end Legion of Sacrament pulled in ahead of the other two options. So I bundled my chariots and morteks back into their storage bins (don't worry, they aren't gone forever), and set the victorious Sacramental Legion project out on the painting table, together with a stubborn batch of comission 30k Raven Guard that I need to finish alongside this lot. Of that, Arkhan, the necromancer, and the Balewind are pretty much done, barring maybe a few minor adjustments here or there. 10 of the 40 skeletons are also mostly done, left over from the last time I tried to get a starter force of undead painted. I've changed my mind about how I want to paint their shields, so those will need some work, but mostly I'm looking at 30 skeletons and 10 dire wolves standing between me and that long coveted first 1,000 points. I plan to work in batches, in the hope of avoiding the burnout that has plagued some of my previous attempts. To that end, I'll be alternating between groups of 10 skeletons and 5 dire wolves, with this command batch first in line.
  2. The Great Task of Ralazhar Deathsworn Nagash had led the emissaries of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer to believe that he would join them in their assault upon the fortress of Gothizzar, the All-gate that guarded the Endgate. Nagash knew that the arcway leading from the Allpoints to Shyish must be shuttered, but he did not aid the Stormcast Eternals. Such an alliance did not suit the Great Necromancer; after all, Nagash still did not consider his long-standing grudge against Sigmar for the wrongs done to him repaid. From his throne of bones, he watched the Stormcast Eternals die at Gothizzar. When he was ready, Nagash’s assault upon that fortress would not fail. -Excerpt from the Freeguilder General’s Handbook, a history of the Age of Chaos Shyish, some days following the battle of Gothizzar during the Age of Chaos. What utter Heresy, Ralazahr thought as he left the Sanctum of his Master. An order of Blood Knights had defied the Supreme One to save a band of the Thief-King’s Stormcast at the battle of Gothizzar. He had never understood why anyone would not bow their heads in subservience to the glory of the Supreme One in the first place. But for the Order of Allurah, favoured servants who had fought in the Supreme One’s Grand Host for centuries, to defy their Master was a Heresy almost beyond belief. Still, Ralazahr smiled to himself as he walked out of the Black Tower. His place was not to dwell on such matters, his place was to see the Supreme One’s will be done. Currently that meant claiming the Vampires’ souls for their just punishment. And as one of the foremost Dark Acolytes to the Legion of Sacrament that would be precisely what he’d do. ~ Hello everyone and welcome to my painting log! I have been painting and modelling on and off over the last 15 years. I have been in love with all things vampiric and undead since the ancient days of the world-that-was. However, over those years I have never managed to complete a full army 😅 So, after switching to a new job I now have the money and time to start building not one but two armies! In this blog I will keep everyone posted about my progress and the developing lore for the armies. Starting with Ralazhar Deathsworn's Undead Horde. Ralazhar is one of Arkhan's most zealous Dark Acolytes, a devoted servant of Nagash and a powerful Master Necromancer. He has been tasked with reclaiming the souls of the Order of Allurah, a band of Blood Knights led by Geneva Isidora. Once favoured knights of Nagash, they believe that the only way to resist the tide of Chaos is to unite the living and the dead under one banner as equals, not slaves. Of course no blogpost would be complete without miniatures, so here are a group of fallen Warrior Priests. Once, these priests fought valiantly to destroy necromancers and other evildoers. Now, they serve as Ralazhar's Hexwraith trackers. More pictures behind the spoilers bar.
  3. The Legion of Sacrament Command Trait "Dark Acolyte" makes the General into a WIZARD if they are already not a wizard and allows them to take a single spell from "Lores of the Dead" The Lores of the Dead spell lists are restricted to DEATHMAGES WIZARDS, VAMPIRE WIZARDS or DEATHLORD WIZARDS. If the General doesn't have any of the KEYWORDS, can they still take a spell from the lists? If so, which list? (both?) If the General has only DEATHMAGES or VAMPIRE keywords ... can they take a spell from either list? or can they only take a spell from their respective list?
  4. I love the idea of spellcasters who are also melee fighters, and I love the idea of heroes using sword and sorcery to bring down enemies much larger than they are. This has led me to start a Death army with a heavy focus on Vampires as heroes who can both cast spells and hold their own in combat. So far I own four Vampires, eighty Skeletons, ten Black Knights, twenty Direwolves, a Wight King, and a Necromancer. Because I like spellcasting, and Skeleton Warriors move pretty slowly, I've decided to build a Deathrattle-heavy Legion of Sacrament list. Here's the idea so far: --- Necromancer w/ Overwhelming Dread [General: Mastery of Death] Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon w/ Vile Transference [Wristbands of Black Gold] Vampire Lord on Nightmare w/ Amaranthine Orb Vampire Lord on Nightmare w/ Spirit Gale Vampire Lord (Flying Horror) w/ Soulpike 40x Skeleton Warriors w/ Spears 40x Skeleton Warriors w/ Spears 10x Dire Wolves 10x Black Knights +1 Command Ability Point Total: 1940 --- This list is unfinished at 1940 points, so I could still have room to expand. I would like to keep it "vampire-heavy" so to speak but if that's not viable I'm willing to change things up of course. Here are some thoughts about Endless Spells I might be able to add: Gemenids of Uhl-Gysh seems incredibly strong for its cost, 2D3 mortal wounds, -1 to hit and -1 attack. Soulsnare Shackles seems popular on this forum, but it seems easy to unbind (casting value 5) and only really has an effect on your opponent's next turn. Malignant Maelstrom would easily backfire on me since I plan on casting 7-8 spells per turn. Quicksiver Swords couldn't hurt, I guess? Chronomantic Cogs sounds very powerful, but it's expensive- I could take 2-3 spells instead of just it. What do you think?
  5. Lords of Sacrament comes to 790 pts, i.e. 10 less than Nagash. Collectively, LoS gives more wounds and two behemoths compared to the Supreme Lord of the Undead, but it gives less spells, is less mobile (if you want your necromancers to benefit from the mortis engine), and is arguably less durable, especially if Nagash is in his first cohort. So, I've been trying to think: is there a way LoS is worth taking over Nagash/first cohort? I'm admittedly new to AoS, but I'm a longtime 40k player (off and on since 3rd ed), and played Vampire Counts in WHFB back in the day. I've got a lot of old models I'd love to breathe new life into and want my Arkhan to kick ass. I figure: what are the major advantages of LoS? +1 spells per turn per caster in the battalion +1 to saves and +1 to cast in range of the ME So, maximizing those, and considering Arkhan's command ability, I'm wondering how viable a hero-heavy council of necromancers is. Something Like: Arkhan 4 Necros 1 Vamp Lord 40 Spear Skellies 2x5 Dire Wolves 10 Hexwraiths 3 Spirit Hosts 1 Mortis Engine Lords of Sacrament 1990 Either the Skellies or the Hosts start in the grave, while the other screens for all the necros. Everything with decent movement advances and pulls the other screen out of the grave for cover. Hit the enemy with 5 arcane bolts, 2 Vile Trans/Orbs and 5 Dread/Vigour/Van Hels. Plenty of Deathly Invocation to go around and big enough units to take the heat, except the wolves, who are for obj grabbing anyway. I feel like this is crazy, but I like it. What would you change? What am I missing?
  6. Hey, all. Like the title suggests, I am at the end of my rope. I'm trying to piece together a death army, but I'm spending so much time bouncing back and forth between ideas that I'm actually losing sleep over it. I want to be sure that, before I invest heavily into this army, it is viable. Now, I don't mean I NEED to win the next big ol' tournament, just that the army works to an extent, and isn't just a ramshackle assortment of units. I want to be sure I'm spending money on units that will be of true use. Cash isn't quite as expendable these days,so if I'm going to indulge this habit, I had to be careful(ish). If possible, AT ALL, I would love to to piece together an army that takes advantage of the models-in-waiting that I already have, namely: A mortarch kit, A Mortis Engine kit, and Nagash himself (though i doubt he'd make it) I'm leaning toward 2000pts, something size-able but not absurd, and I really need help or suggestions on this. With what I have, I would love to make the following: (Grand Host of Nagash) Arkhan Necromancer Necromancer Mortis Engine 40x Skeletons w/spears 10x Grave Guard 10x Grave Guard 5x Hexwraiths 4x Morghast Harbingers & Lords of Sacrament formation. Any advice on this would be truly, truly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  7. So Ive been toying with Legion of Sacrament this week. I tried First Cohort last week and found that unless you play hyper aggressively with Nagash (Which you can do when he has 2 Arkai as well) and protect your Necromancers, your gunna lose the Objective based games the moment your tied up. Anywho, onto legion of Sacrament this week so tonight I am playing (while casting at the seam time some how) with a Legion of Sacrament build I've been toying with. My list is below. I will say, it originally had no battalion and had a Neferata in it which seemed... meh. Leaders Arkhan The Black Mortarch of Sacrament (320) - General - Lore of the Dead : Soul Harvest (Deathmages) Necromancer (110) - Artefact : Shroud of Darkness - Lore of the Deathmages : Overwhelming Dread Necromancer (110) - Artefact : Wristbands of Black Gold - Lore of the Deathmages : Decrepify Units 4 x Morghast Archai (440) -Spirit Halberds 40 x Skeleton Warriors (280) -Ancient Spears 20 x Skeleton Warriors (160) -Ancient Blades 10 x Grave Guard (160) -Wight Blades & Crypt Shields 5 x Hexwraiths (160) Behemoths Mortis Engine (180) Battalions Lords of Sacrament (70) Total: 1990 / 2000 Allies: 0 / 400 Leaders: 3/6 Battlelines: 5 (3+) Behemoths: 2/4 Artillery: 0/4 Wounds: 137
  8. I've prepared some analisys about the battletome Legions of Nagash so you can make me know what you think about it. AnywayI really find myself still pleased by this battletome cause we gained a lot of different ways to play, but also disappointed by the lot of things we lost (and the mocking about the warscroll battalions). you can find everything here^^ Before you begin... there are 8 videos in the link, I advise you beforehand^^
  9. Hi guys I am hoping to get my first game in with the new book tomorrow at the warhammer store ( if there are any opponents there ) the store prefers lower point games so I'm planning a 1200 point list. This is what I've come up with currently. Legion of Sacrament Arkhan Necromancer (Shroud of Darkness) Necromancer 5 dire wolves 5 dire wolves 6 spirit hosts Mortis engine Balewind total 1180 This is character heavy, but it increases the likelihood of spirit hosts returning. My main concern however is the lack of bodies. I was thinking of dropping a necromancer. And buffing the hosts or even dropping the Mortis and adding a cart, and more dogs to increase models. Also I'm a little torn with spells, as each spell is great for different armies I'm struggling to determine what spells I'd want in an all comers low point game. As always your suggestions would be most appreciated
