  1. Ok so I made that topic about GHB armies and BoC awhile back about it not being the kiss of death for armies which sparked much debate, and with the BoC book looming around the pre orders I kept on thinking. Is BoC GW's way of experimenting with releasing a big compilation book without releasing new models for old armies? Now I can see the argument now, "but BoC is clearly the 2nd Legions of Nagash Book!" 🤔 But there are some key differences that makes me think BoC is a leap of faith on GWs part and the first truly "oldhammer" book update versus LoN. 1. LoN is IMPORTANT to the lore of AoS. Nagash being a god has much power and weight through the new fluff and his Mortarchs are also quite characterful. BoC, lets be real here, probably aren't. Sure the book will have "important battle X" and there is a new fluff change that Dragon Ogors used to rule Azyr before Sigmar kicked them out, but Beasts are marauding generic bad guys. They have no special characters in AoS and everything they can do could easily be replicated with Mortals or Daemons. That is not to say they don't have flavor, other characterless armies still do, but a big huge book with no characters is a pretty stark difference to LoN. This kind of somewhat generic fluff seems it would also fit many other armies like Free Peoples/Free Cities. 2. LoN was 70-80% of the Vampire Count line, and technically once they squatted TK, 70-80% the entirety of Death until Night Haunt update. Even if you removed Skaven from chaos, BoC only represent 1/3 of Chaos (other 2 being Mortals and Daemons), or even less if you count each God being their own thing so that'd be 1/5 of Chaos (and 1/6 if counting chaos dwarfs). LoN represented an entire overhaul of Death itself (minus FEC) whereas BoC are just a slice of chaos pie. It's almost like LoN was Grand Alliance Death 2.0. They could have skipped BoC update for Skaven or something and people wouldn't have been surprised imo. 3. Vampire Counts were very popular in warhammer, which was boosted to an all time high with their OP 7th edition book and further boosted with the End Times. A big huge "VC compilation" update makes sense monetary wise by attracting a large fanbase. Beasts of Chaos/Beastmen were not. The Chaos Split Up in 7th really hampered them and gaining one of the worst 7th edition books didn't help. I think it was safe to say that Beastmen were in the bottom 50% (if not bottom 33%) of "popular armies" in old warhammer. Sure we have our fanatics, but player base wise it was probably smaller across the world vs most other armies. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if Bretonnia had a similar number concurrent players despite being dropped post 6th. 4. BoC represent basically an entire Generic (as in no special character) oldhammer army line, with the entire Beastmen Book+Thunderscorn and a few monsters (minus any discontinued models like harpies or chaos troggoths). No other "no new model" book has done this scale of an update like Flesh Eater Courts or Beastclaw Raiders. Not to mention Beasts of Chaos is the name of the old book, no other army has used the old army names (well thats an IP thing but still interesting. They could have easily done something like "The Wyldherds of Chaos", "Chaos Doombeasts", or something). 5. Beasts of Chaos came out of nowhere. Many other projects are either well known in previews (Orktober, Sisters of Battle) or heavily hinted months in advance (Darkoath and Moonclan via Malign Portents). Without needing to advertise and tool up new models, it seems that whipping up a book can be done (relatively) quickly and quietly. In conclusion I think the Success (or failure, hopefully not though) of BoC will do 2 things 1. Signal whether or not theres enough demand to finally move some finecast models into plastic such as Centigors or Tuskgor Chariots. Yes one could argue BCR should have prompted this (I hate you so much finecast yhetees) but BCR is a small update and came out as an early 1.0 book. GW was still trying to put out the fires of the launch. 2. Signal whether to speed up or slow down compilation books of other sorts. While I am very sure GHB armies will get updated eventually in one way or another, BoC could be testing the waters if there should be more speed in releasing these kinds of books. If it flops though, they may want to delay those kinds of books in favor of AoS factions. But this is my tinfoil hat conspiracy, feel free to poke holes in my logic.
  2. With the leaks of Beasts of Chaos that no doubt includes Brayherds, a GHB Allegiance, is this proof that just because a faction is only present in the GHB that it is not the "kiss of death" in terms of having a proper battletome? I don't know exactly where this came from, but it seems many people parrot a supposed GW or designer quote roughly equaling to "GHB Allegiances are here to stay". Now I DON'T think it is likely many factions in the GHB will ever go beyond the GHB, like Dispossessed who have already been repackaged for AOS bases, but does this give hope that there could be more for at least one or two other factions like Darklings or dare I say it....Skaven?
  3. Hello fellow Fans, I must admit that I have actually 2 Questions, although the second Question is a very specific one. How would you handle the following inconsistencies? First off: I am confused by the different minimum and maximum Unit Sizes listed in certain Warscrolls, the Generals Handbook 2018 and the Warscroll Builder: For example: In their respective Warscroll the Sisters of the Watch are designated to have a minimum Unit Size of 5 (I guess that is no longer up to date) However the Warscroll Builder sets a minimum Unit Size of 10 and a Maximum of 20 Units. Then again the Generals Handbook sets the same minimum of 10 but a Max. Unit Size of 30. My second Question would be: Regarding the AOS APP: The Wayfinder Hero of the Wanderers Faction is able to use a Command Ability called Boldest of the Bold, giving a chosen Unit his Bravery of 8 and on top of that this Unit can immediately shoot, as if it where the shooting Phase, when it rolls a Battleshock test of 1. However Daemon Musicians require enemy Units within their vicinity to reroll Battleshock-Tests of 1. So as unlikely as it is going to happen, I have not been able to find clarifications for this in any FAQs. Thanks in advance, I just found out today about this section of the Forums and I appreciate every answer.
  4. Guys is there a point of buying battletomes with arrival of AoS 2.0 ?? I mean Stormcast are getting new battletome so maybe i next months we will reacive more refreshed stuff. I'm mostly interested in Blades of Khorne & Seraphons battletomes. Also I'm planing, as a new player, to buy new core book. Do you recommend buying GHB 2018 as well. And finally - Maligin Portents, Path to Glory and RealmGate Wars ?

    Let's Chat: Seraphon 2017

For discussion about lists and standout units in the new handbook. I'll go over my initial thoughts of what stands out to get the party started. The allegiance ability is amazing. Five free lightning chariots per game (assuming a 2+ roll) with no range restrictions and no need for the priest to be nearby to cast the prayer. The lizards seem to now be amphibians because this is some SLIPPERY shenanigans. If Slann roll double to cast, add 6" to the range of the spell. Slann can unbind from anywhere. Croak at 450 is about right. The command ability can save your life. The frog's spells are great on a Balewind Vortex with an Astrolith bearer, hitting the entire table with mortal wounds. The command ability can be used to fix a bad roll on the allegiance ability. Or any bad roll. Engine of the gods is worth taking alongside a Slann. Rolling four and choosing three almost guarantees you can select the 25" mortal wound blast. I rolled 40 times in a row and missed it twice. Furthermore, if you use Kroak's command ability, it's totally feasible to roll triple sixes, even moreso if you cast the Starseer's spell which allows you to increase a single die roll for a unit by +1 (you can also give this to a slann via command trait). Getting this is probably an auto-win, as you get an entire extra turn of scoring. Knights are great now. 5+ save ignoring rend -1. Might be as good as liberators since they are fast and can march for double speed. The firelance battalion, at only 100 points, is a screaming deal and you could easily build a list around these guys. All the Saurus are good. A Saurus heavy army could be led by the Oldblood on Carnosaur, giving every hero within 20" 2 extra attacks to one of their weapons. Skinks are ridiculously good for 60 points. 40 wounds for 200 is absurd. They will go down to battleshock, but that still means some powerful unit directed enough attacks to do 20 wounds at 200 points! An incredible trade that can give you an advantage. I will be buying more skinks. Artillery is possible. I like Salamanders. I like the idea of a summoning list using Kroak or a Slann. Bring out whatever you need to get the job done. I would take a slann and give him the ability to come back with d3 wounds if I am worried about the opponent sniping him off first turn. The strength is the versatility. So many warscrolls with battalions and heroes now pointed appropriately means the Seraphon have all the tools to get it done. Chameleon skinks remain amazing. They can set up right in the opponents face and are pointed well at 120. 3+ save in cover is thematic and very powerful. The threat of summoning these in can cause all sorts of problems for your opponent. Eternal Starhost remains the standout. Command Traits: Slann: General can re-roll one on cast. Very good. Can take the spells of the skinks. Also great. Free 200 point starseer spell. Teleport 2 units per turn? Amazing. Saurus: Use both inspiring presence and the command ability. This is awesome. Throw your unit of 40 skinks or 40 warriors in to stay. Re-roll saves of 1 is also nice. Skink: These are odd. I will probably never run these. Using celestial rites twice is ok, but a skink general may just get shot off quickly. What is everyone's favorite artefact? They all seem good. Mortal wound spam remains a problem. Does anyone like Kroxigor? The jaws ability is cool and could slay a hero, but that's a bit too situational for me. Dracothians tail: An amazing battalion. Single drop with two artefacts. Now we have a reason to paint those knights from the SC boxes. (Does kouteq count as a named character? can he take artefacts?) Fangs of Sotek: Very cool as well. Two command abilities. Use the Slann as normal and use the oldblood to buff your saurus heroes. What's everyone looking to run?

    GHB17 - Let´s chat dispossessed

So: - new abilities -new batallion - points decrease in all troops, except thunderers and quarrelers -hammerers as bl for dispossed army. - massive regiment discount fo 40 warrior - 30 longbeards/ironbreakers/hammerers that´s a lot of love
  7. With the new discounts for massive regiments i thought it could be useful to create a toolbox of sorts for people who find themselves struggling with the potential shift towards larger units. Sadly i dont know enough about chaos and drestruction to name anything from there (aside from the maw spell), so if anyone would like to chime in with any tools they have or if i missed anything for order/death let me know and I'll update. Note: I'm trying to avoid models that are out of production. Not much use in knowing of a tool when you cant buy it. Death: zombie dragon. Its breath attack auto hits if theres more than 6 models in the target unit. Arkhan the black: curse of years has the ability to wipe out entire units if you roll well enough Order: Collegiate arcane: Luminark of hysh- the hurricanum's overlooked brother comes with a nifty spell, burning gaze. Casts on a 6 and does d3 mortal wounds. Double if the target unit has 10 models, triple if it has 20+. Darkling Coven Sorceress on Black Dragon-noxious breath, pick a unit and roll a dice for each model within 6", for each 6 the unit suffers a mortal wound. Daughters of Khaine Bloodwrack Medusae -pick a visible unit within 10 inches, roll a dice for every model in that unit, does a mortal wound on a 5+. Seems really good as you roll for all models in the unit, even those models that may not be within 10 inches of the medusa. Dispossessed: Flame cannon- units that suffer damage from it will continue to burn for d3/d6 (if you have an engineer nearby) on a 4+ Eldritch council: Drakeseer- his unique spell is also a variation on the maw (mortal wounds that keep happening on a 4+). Casting value 7, but the damage increases every time you roll to keep it burning Fyreslayers: Magmadroth- its roaring fyrestream will auto hit for d3/d6 (if within 5") mortal wounds against hordes. Ironweld arsenal: Cannon- reroll damage for units with 10+ models. Not a great bonus, but its not like cannons suck normally. Gyrocopter- steam gun gets 1 attack per model within 6" Steam tank- cannon gets +1 to hit for units with 10+ models Order serpentis: Dreadlord on black dragon- noxious breath, pick a unit and roll a dice for each model within 6", for each 6 the unit suffers a mortal wound. Seraphon: Stegadon- flamethrowers are good yo. 1 attack per model within 8". Bubblewrap with saurus warriors to keep lil steggy safe for the first round of combat so it can cook up some horde sammiches Kroxigor- 1 in 3 can equip a moonstone hammer, which gives 1 attack for every model within 2" Stormcast: Decimators, 1 attack per model within 2". Might seem underwhelming but ive had a squad of 5 get over 30 attacks against my skeletons. Stardrake- rolling thunderhead ability, pick and enemy unit and roll a dice for each model within 18" for each 6 rolled the unit suffers a mortal wound Sylvaneth: Drycha- her swarm of squirmlings picks a unit and for each model within 10" of her you roll a dice. For each 3+ (depending on her wounded chart up to a 5+) the unit suffers a mortal wound. Chaos: gaunt summoner-infernal flames. casting value 8, pick a visible unit, roll a dice for every model within 18", mortal wound for each 4+ -Blades of khorne: Skarr Bloodwrath. Instead of making his normal attacks, you ca make one attack for each enemy model within 3" -Clan pestilins: Plagueclaw catapult: goes to 2d6 damage if +10 model in the unit. Verminlord Corruptor's Plague spell: Roll a dice for each model in target unit. Mortal wound on 6+. Can then spread to another unit within 7" on a 4+. Can spread forever as long as you keep rolling 4+ on spread roll and there's another untouched unit nearby. -Skaven Masterclan: grey seer- has a spell, casting value of 6. pick a unit within 26" (pretty nice that you'll be outside unbind range) and roll a dice for each model in the unit. for each 6 the unit suffers a mortal wound Destruction: -Ironjaws: Weirdnob shaman- foot of gork, casting value 10. d6 mortal wounds and will keep going on a 4+ -Gutbusters: Scraplauncher: 1/3/4/-/D3 damage, increasing to D6 against 10+, 2D6 against 20+ (It just has to get to the damage point first) Ironblaster: 1/4/2/-2/D6 damage, re-roll failed hits if there are 10+ models
