About Me

  1. I recently found a huge stack of White Dwarfs from 98-2001 in the loft and it completely rekindled my enthusiasm for the hobby. I was around 11 back in those days and so never painted many of my models. This is my first attempt at my first 10 warriors from my ever growing fully Duardin, Dispossessed, KO, Fyreslayer and Dwarf army. I'm looking to keep this colour scheme going through the army. I'm using Local Highland slate for the bases, if anyone has any tips on creating a more Scottish Highland feel to bases let me know.
  2. I find it a shame that GW seems to have really ignored the Firestorm allegiances, with the only usable ones being Order and Destruction since those 2 GA have many allegiance-less factions. The other two GA Firestorm factions though have so little reason for existing now since they each have proper allegiances that are clearly superior. Looking at the rules for The Wraith Fleet, it basically is a weak "beta version" of Legion of Night (which I think is why they never reprinted it in LoN, despite still reprinting GA Death and Soulblight). So why not make Wraith Fleet a subfaction (like a Stormhost or Tamurkhan's Horde) of Legion of Night (yes this isn't exactly to lore, but their abilities are just too similar)! I just want it to feel a tad more "piratey". So essentially you use all the typical rules for Legion of Night, with these tacked on rules alongside a forced Command Trait and Artifact. ABILITIES Nimbus of Shrieking Spirits: Unchanged from the original Wraithfleet rules. (note: I can't really think of anything for the army wide ability. Unless perhaps a Shanghai'd ability? More ambush units?) Command Ability Wraithfleet Bombardment: You can use this ability in your hero phase. If you do, once per game select up to 3 enemy units within 18" of a Wraithfleet Hero and roll a D6 for each. On a 3+, those units suffer D3 Mortal Wounds. On a roll of a 6 however, the unit suffers D6 Mortal Wounds. (note: Undead pirates have undead cannons!) Command Trait Captain of the Wraithfleet: If the HERO is not a Behemoth, it may be set up in ambush with the Ageless Cunning rule without counting towards the 3 unit limit. However It must deploy at the same time and within 3" of another unit deploying with Ageless Cunning. (note: Incentivizes to use a non zombie dragon general) Artifact of Power Wraithlock Pistols: In your shooting phase, pick an enemy unit within 12" and roll a D6. On a 4+, that unit suffers D3 Mortal Wounds. If the roll is a 6, you may choose which models the wounds are allocated to. (Note: Gives a "pistol" to the hero that can occasionally allow you to snipe particular models).
  3. This blog by request, we'll be covering Stoneklaw's Gutstompas, an allegiance ability available in the Firestorm book. This isn't too undercover of a choice, it's popped up in the AOS 6 Nations tournament and it's gaining traction, so now would be the perfect time to hammer out a write up. Why Gutstompa's? So this allegiance's requirements are a lot less stringent than all the others. It basically allows all of the old warhammer fantasy Orks and Goblins, as well as the new Ironjawz and the Giant mixed in. So if you happened to build a Spiderfang army when the skirmish box came out, bought a lot of the Greenskinz Start Collecting or are jumping on the Moonclan HYPETRAIN and need something to transtition into once they nerf you into the floor, here is the place to be. Let's see what it offers. Confusion. What on earth are these strategems? What do they mean? Well think of these as two randomized allegiance abilities for your army (You had none beforehand and this costs nothing, so random is hardly a downside) that you roll for before each game. Here's a list of the stratagems. Some of these aren't amazing, and that's fair. Some of these are completely insane. ESPECIALLY considering the one that gives you a free unit back doesn't cost reinforcement points like it did when this was written. But how best to make a list that makes adequate use of these traits while not being directly tailored to them to compensate for randomosity? Let's take a swing. Allegiance: Stoneklaw's Gutstompas Leaders Orruk Warboss (140) - Great Waaagh Banner Grot Warboss (100) - Git Cuttas Arachnarok Spider With Grot Shaman (280) - General - Trait: Bellowing Tyrant Battleline 40 x Orruks (280) - Pair of Choppas 40 x Orruks (280) - Pair of Choppas 60 x Moonclan Grots (360) - Stabbas & Moon Shields Units 5 x Grot Spider Riders (100) 5 x Grot Spider Riders (100) 5 x Grot Spider Riders (100) War Machines Grot Spear Chukka (120) Grot Spear Chukka (120) Total: 1980 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 208 Ok so I definitely went in with the Moonclan combo where you double the damage of a Moonclan unit, because it's good and I'd be a fool not to. Backing that up are two max size units of Orruks to form a decent shield wall while the spider riders and their Arachnarok swarm objectives and push elite infantry off them with their mortal wound output. The three characters synergize well with the unit options taken, and the two artillery choices are great at taking out enemy heroes (great for Duality of Death). Let me know what you think and what you'd like to see next.
  4. Opening up this blog of unconventional picks and tactics, we're going to talk about the allegiance abilities released with the Firestorm Campaign. There's something for each of the Grand Alliances, though the vast majority of them are centred on the ORDER alliance (it was an expansion based on the new free cities, so that's just a given). What are the requirements? For a start, the Firestorm Allegiances recieved an errata where you can only take them as a supplement to being Grand Alliance allegiance. This was changed to prevent armies like Stormcast Eternals abusing the Anvilgard rules and armies like Sylvaneth abusing the Living City rules. As the Firestorm allegiance abilities don't replace your existing ones, and instead add on to them, this was a necessary change to prevent giving existing allegiances a considerable leg-up. Secondly, each allegiance has a list of factions it can include, it doesn't have to include all of them but it can only include choices from these factions. As an example, we'll take the Tempest's Eye free city. So to start, it's important to remember that if for example the army is a Swifthawk Agent's army and you'd like to take the Tempest's Eye allegiance to give yourself a bit of an edge, you still get to use your Shadow Warriors and Spireguard as battleline, because your army is still built entirely of units with the SWIFTHAWK AGENTS keyword. The tricky part is if you want to ally units. You may still ally in as usual, however you can only use the ally choices that are also in the Tempest's Eye requirements (in this case, only the Stormcast Eternals and Eldritch Council). This limits you somewhat, but both contribute well to what a Swifthawk army lacks anyway so it works out relatively well. Allegiance: Order (Tempest's Eye) Mortal Realm: Hysh Leaders High Warden (220) - General - Trait: Inspiring - Artefact: Lens of Refraction Skywarden (160) - Zephyr Trident Skywarden (160) - Zephyr Trident Loremaster (140) - Allies Knight-Azyros (100) - Allies Battleline 5 x Reavers (140) 5 x Reavers (140) 5 x Reavers (140) 5 x Reavers (140) Units 30 x Spireguard (300) 10 x Shadow Warriors (180) 10 x Shadow Warriors (180) Total: 2000 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 240 / 400 Wounds: 126 So here's a list I've bashed up that I would enjoy playing with the Tempest's Eye allegiance. Straight away we can see it's an extremely mobile army. The army's deadly shooting is accentuated by the allied Knight-Azyros swooping down and providing rerolls, and the Loremaster is pretty much good in any army because he can turn any hero into a godly beatstick with the rerolls he hands out. The army utilizes it's extreme mobility to compete against armies it ordinarily wouldn't be able to deal with, using the small speedbost from Tempest's Eye to reach key positions before the enemy does, and gets the enemy into it's shooting range a turn ahead of when it normally would. When should I take Firestorm Allegiances? It almost feels like these armies were designed to give the old Fantasy Battle line that hasn't recieved a battletome a bit of a boost. For example, you'd be a fool to take this over the allegiance abilities provided by being Stormcast or Kharadron Overlords allegiant, but if you have a Dispossessed army and aren't a fan of the Grudge system they were given, or feel like starting a Swifthawk Agents army after going halves with a friend on the Spire of Dawn / Island of Blood kit, these are the rules for you. Comment your thoughts below guys, and if there's anything specific you want me to cover be it a Firestorm Allegiance or anything else, let me know.
  5. So as the title say, what do u think about our new allegiance ability in firestorm? A new life into mixed destro list? 6. Hi guys! So as the title says, my two gaming buddies and myself are looking at grabbing the Firestorm box for our next campaign and we’re wondering how it’ll play with only three players? Do any of you lovely folks have any experience with three player firestorm, or any tips to boost our campaign fun? Cheers!
  7. Can I use especific battleline units as battleline on my Firestorm City army? For example, using Eternal Guard (Wanderers Battleline) on my Greywaters army (Stormcast, Free Peoples, Ironweld, Colegiate Arcane & Wanderers) as one of my 3 battleline units on 2k points.
  8. Hello! For those of you who have played Firestorm, perhaps you can help me. When a person captures a strategic location, like the Caverns of Fulminax, do they shuffle the strategic location card with their other cards and draw randomly, or do you get to use the strategic location card in addition to the 6 or 7 cards that you draw? Thanks!
  9. Hi I can get my brain to understand this, so please tell me if I got this right: On page 36, under Map Regions, the rules state that there are three areas that is designated as Strategic Regions (marked with crossed axes). The three regions are: Eyes of the Prismatikon, The Infinity Gates and The Caverns of Fulminax. The same paragraph states that if a player controls these three Strategic Regions and has reforged The Sceptre of the Flame by spending a Build Point - that player immediately wins the campaign Right... so far I understand... On page 42, under Victory/Realm Conqueror Victory, the rules state that "A player wins the campaign immediately if they control all three Strategic Regions and have reforged The Sceptre of the Flame. See the Time of war rules for The Titanworks on page 52" Uh-huh... and moving to page 52: On page 52, under The Titanworks, it says that to Reforge the Sceptres of the Flame a player that: "controls this region [The Titanworks] and also controls The Caverns of Fulminax and The Black Iron Peninsula, can spend a Build Point to reforge The Sceptre of the Flame" Is this the case?: Can a player create The Sceptre of the Flame by controlling The Caverns of Fulminax, The Black Iron Peninsula and The Titanworks, but not The Infinity Gates and The Eyes of the Prismatikon and then need to gain control over the Strategic Regions in order to actually spend that Build Point to win the campaign? And can a player conquer only the Strategic Regions, spend a Build Point and win the campaign, without having control over the non-strategic regions mentioned regions above? I hope I made myself clear.... Have I got this right?
  10. Hi guys, I plan to paint my Empire to the latest Anvilguard faction from the Firestorm box and wanted to do the colour scheme as suggested. Has anyone tried the suggested White / orange gold / dark blue, and some elements red-orange combo yet? Are you playing Anvilguard but use a different colour scheme? (please no "You can do whatever you want" answers - I know that - thanks)
  11. Let's say that my army has Stormcast, Overlords and some Aelfs and I choose...Tempest's Eye. I know that I get the ability, command and equipment from Order GA and the City ability. But what about the prayers, lights and banners from the SC battletome? Reading the battletome they don't say anything about the army allegiance on the castellant's light text but in the case of the prayers it's write something like "priest from a STORMCAST ETERNALS army can choose one of..." I'm not sure if they FAQ'ed that. -Can my Relictor, Castellant and others get those or they just keep the default from the wallscrolls? -If all my army is SC but I still choose to use de Order+City can they use the lights, prayers and banners from the battletome?
  12. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/10/06/firestorm-matched-play-rules-update/ So, with this stoneklawz is now an allegiance to itself. Personally I think this is a much needed change, also might be cool when combining snotlings with orruks. It also makes generic greenskins more of an option while providing a little extra kick to spiderfang, moon clan or gitmob. Felt it was important to get up on here and I wanted to see people's opinions. Good, bad, worth it?
