  1. Hello, My journey into AoS is primarily that of a model maker and painter. I'm (very loosely 😂) familiar with the rules but really what draws me to this world is the carte blanche we've been given by GW to create what ever armies we want and bring to life some incredible looking models. To that end, the narrative and story behind a unit or force is the most important aspect to me and I find that an understanding of this really helps to identify what it is I want from the model in the end. This unfortunately means I have a myriad of ideas clogging up note books, post-its and memos on my phone that will probably never see the light of day and a smaller number of actual forces that have been begun, but being the typical hobby magpie the we all are, but have to endure glacial progress. Such is the addiction to plastic crack... This force came about after following the work of several other hobbyists on instagram. The siege of peck hashtag caught my attention and if you haven't had a chance to check this out I strongly recommend you do as there are some very talented people at work for kroot forces for this years adepticon. Any how, I decided I wanted to do something with kroot as a result and as such came up with the idea of a sentient race living in the realms at a place of intense magic (explaining their humanoid but not too human appearance) and had recently been discovered by the forces of Sigmar. I'm hoping if I can keep motivated and focused on this setting I'll be able to create my own little distinct corner of the mortal realms but we'll see... 😄 This force is going to be of aelve pirates who being down on their luck recently have decided the newly discovered kroot species would make an exciting new exotic choice for willing buyers back in the free cities. As such I'll be using various units from Cities of Sigmar with proxies here and there to make it gel together. Hopefully. These will be 'count as' executioners for the force and the bodyguards of the slave fleet's commandant. Thought to replace the traditional skull masks with the blank Dark Eldar helmets. Here we have the dark shards starting to take shape. With each of the units in the force I wanted a genuine mix of outfits and gear to show how individual pirates tailored their get up to their acquired tastes. The idea would be that when painting up this force, those members of the slave fleets crew that have only recently joined would have a more rag tag appearance than some of the longer members who have managed to conform with the commandant's desired dress code. The dread spears of the force are used to push and prod any catches that prove to be particularly disagreeable as well as fulfil a military role when fighting other forces. They allow the pirates to pin their foe in place and then move quicker elements into position to flank or indeed fly in from above (the use of scourge legs gives an nice 'hitting the deck' feel). Here we have the first of what will be the main body of the force in the shape of black ark corsairs. I decided to start by giving a mix of weapons so I could field them in either of the load outs on the war scroll but may expand this to encompass an whole unit of each... Again as you will see the figures are in various stages of WIP but you get the general idea of what they'll look like. Here is the colour scheme for the force. It was largely inspired by some Custodes I saw in my local Warhammer shop and with my different forces I don't really like painting repeat colours, in that I like to have a'blue' army, a 'red' army, etc because that way each force will give me opportunities to try new and exciting things out. This is a base and wash done just to get an idea of how the finished scheme may look. The weapon shaft is still unpainted as I can't for the life of me settle on a colour I want it to be. I like to have colours that clash to some degree so that the different parts of the figure can be more easily noticed, so the metal of the weapon is Balthasar Gold if any of you guys have a suggestion of what may look good with that... Here's ends the introduction to my little slave fleet, hopefully by the next post I'll have a name and some more narrative fleshed out along with some more complete units. Thanks for reading!!!
  2. Dark elf noble, based on 8th ed. army book cover. this is my entry to the TGA painting comp. for march 2020.
  3. I bought a War Hydra model. It did not come with assembly instruction Does anyone here have one? Would you help me?
  4. I’ve been trying to figure out colours for my Dark Elves for about five years. I think I’m finally satisfied. The highest ranking characters in my army can be recognized by their incessant need to point. It’s just an odd character tic.
  5. Hi All, I'm a Dark Elf player and I've been playing AoS since it started. I really like the models and the aspects of the gameplay. I hope to learn ways to play AoS better.
  6. On the Thrall Warhost's warscroll it says "in your hero phase, pick one unit from this battalion that is within 12" of an enemy unit and within 18" of the coven master. The unit you pick can charge as if it were the charge phase, and then pile in and attack as if it were the combat phase. This does not stop them from charging, piling in and attacking again later in the turn". Does the piling in and attacking as if it were the combat phase, allow for the enemy unit to attack back? And does it mean other enemy units within 3" can pile in and attack or do they have to wait until the actual combat phase to pile in?
  7. This was model that I painted for my old High elf diorama. The sorceress was a protagonist in the middle. I enjoyed painting a female model, and I spent a lot of time working on the pale flesh tones. The sculpt is pretty good so I was a able to put quite a lot of care into the face. It was possible to put quite a lot of work into the eyes and mouth. I kept the flesh tones and the whole overall model a very pale pallete. The hair was brought up to a very pale purple, and I used a lot of purple into the gold as washes to keep the colours balanced.I also used Palyd Wych Flesh, both as the main highlight colour for the hair and as the main colour for the robes. If I was to redo the models composition again I'd definitely consider a different colour for the blood pool as I think that the red is too strong and vibrant and isn't balanced anywhere else in the model.
  8. Selling on eBay. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dark-Elves-Warhammer-Armies-Book-1995-classic-/253186869405?hash=item3af31d089d%3Ag%3AiXQAAOSwAVxZ0hZG&_trkparms=pageci%3A02850e4b-a761-11e7-8af5-74dbd1809e35%7Cparentrq%3Adcbf41a615e0ad48723d273fffff0ec1%7Ciid%3A2 Warhammer Armies Dark Elves. A Warhammer Supplement published in 1995 and the first Army Book for Dark Elves. A fan favourite Cover Art with further classic, definitive art pieces through out (Morathi, Executioner standing on High Elf, Hag Graef, Banners and Standards, Map of Naggaroth the Land of Chill). Established the look and feel of the Dark Elves ever onwards. Still influential. Colour section in the middle with Eavy Metal Photos and Spells Magic Items you could, if you chose, cut out and mount on cards. The background and history of the Dark Elves and their lands and politics plus a Beastary and Army List and a small mail order catalogue pages in the very back. A Classic, fondly remembered and oft-sited book, that harks backs to an earlier time in the hobby. Used condition. A bit of a curled dog ear on the right top corner. Otherwise very good. A testament to the quality of manufacture of this book.
  9. Hello all, I was contemplating the viability of this list: Allegiance: Order Heroes Sorceress On Black Dragon (340) - Darkling Sword - Command Trait : Reckless - Artefact : Quicksilver Potion Dreadlord On Black Dragon (340) - Lance of Spite & Tyrant Shield - Artefact : Quicksilver Potion Units 10 x Dreadspears (80) 10 x Dreadspears (80) 10 x Dreadspears (80) 40 x Darkshards (400) 10 x Black Guard (180) 20 x Executioners (400) Battalions Thrall Warhost (80) This list would deploy in 2 drops (1 if you subbed in another sorceress on dragon, rather than the dreadlord, but no need), letting you go first, or allowing the enemy to. Luckily, your shields on the battleline, allow rerolls of 1s and 2s in combat (1s in shooting) which can be somewhat useful, but the power is from the battalion and quicksilver potion use. In the hero phase, you can charge and/or pile-in and attack with a chosen unit within the battalion that is within 12" of an enemy unit and 18" of your sorceress. Because of the musician ability for charges for Darkling Covens, you can choose to reroll 1 dice from the charge roll, or the entire roll if both are rubbish, from the commander's trait, Reckless. If facing long shooters, you can move up (just keep your executioners or blackguards mystic shielded, whichever you choose to be 10 or 20), or allow them to go first and get in range. Move up your line, hopefully hitting with the 40 darkshards, and letting the dreadspears die/get hit in combat. Remove models to allow a > 1" gap between your dreadspear coherency to allow a hero-phase charge from your executioners/blackguards. With 14" fly and 14 wounds, it's not uncommon in your hero phase to - 1. Thrall Warhost charge-to-attack with Black Dragon/executioners/blackguards 2. Move/Shooting/Charge Phase to get the second Black Dragon and executioners/blackguards engaged 3. Activate quicksilver potions on the Black Dragons for two quick pile-ins 4. Regular combat phase with executioners/blackguards The above allows for DEVASTATING priority attacks, as not much can stand up to mortal wounds from the executioners and possible 9 dragon maw attacks at -2 rend, D6 damage each, BEFORE the enemy can even counter. This is useful when facing Khorne, since the enemy can die in hero phase (and shooting with 80 darkshard 4+/4+ shots), as well as bypassing grot fanatics, since the charge and attack are performed in the HERO phase, NOT the CHARGE phase. The rerollable charges can reliably fly your dragon over the frontline to flank and hit the backline, or the rear of the front. Noxious breath can get a few mortal wounds off against hordes of units, and the bladewind spell is mostly meant for killing ranged units/wizards with crappy melee profiles. Let me know what you think
