  1. Welcome All Thought I'd start with a brief background about me and Warhammer/AoS: First taste of Warhammer Fantasy was around 1997 Always been a HUGE fan of the lore and the novels Chaos has always been my favourite army (mortal armies in particular) I have collected the books, novels and special characters for years - love the old chaos champions! Never been involved in the scene, never owned , assembled, converted or painted an army (yes I am absolute theory boy) Decided this year to build an army (FINALLY) & get involved in the scene along with my missus - managed to rope into it (Seraphon player) So in this blog I will be documenting my journey to own a full army and hopefully go to some tournaments. The Army As mentioned, I have always been a follower of chaos, mainly Undivided but also Slaanesh, Tzeentch, Khorne and Nurgle (in that order, never been keen on the pus boys). So with that I plan to start a Slaves To Darkness army. I am going to theme it similarly to the Wendol in the "13th Warrior" film based on the "Eaters Of The Dead" book by Michael Crichton (granted its no Jurassic Park and definitely not the best film or book made, but it is one of my favourite films). Basically the Wendol are cannibal savages in the Norse lands who live in caves, wear bear furs and ride to battle on horses. The plan is to have the whole army mounted (obviously I am not creating a all conquering tournament force) and every model will be converted. This will be a SLOW process but hopefully will be entertaining and informative and through this blog my skill will grow from the advice of you more experienced folk. I have never done any conversions or modeling before but am a fashion designer and did art a lot at school and college so hopefully that will land me in good stead. As mentioned previously, I will be creating this army at the same time as my missus is building a Seraphon army. We have purchased the Skirmish book and Path To Glory book so we will be growing our warbands whilst playing these with the aim to have a 2000 point force each at some point.
  2. I'm working on painting up my Slaves to Darkness army in Slaanesh colors because.... PINK! Anyways I have a lot of foot troops in the form of Chaos Warriors and Chaos Marauders basically 50 of each but here's my issue I have 25 of the "new" Warriors, you know the normal guys now that are pretty static in their stance and 25 of the really ancient Warriors from like 2nd edition and my OCD forbids me from making them one unit. So what are good sizes for their units? 10, 20, 50? I will be keeping them as separate units so the older dudes I can bring up to 25 but do they work better in 10s or 20s? The same with the Marauders, but they all the new guys what are the best unit sizes? This will help me in the painting of the units, you know being visually different from unit to unit but uniform as an army as a whole. They all have hand weapons and shields. Thanks in advance, Rayvn
  3. Hey guys, So this is my first time posting on here, big fan of the site and the quality of work I have seen on here! I just started painting minis with any sort of commitment over the past 6 months, I have probably done 20 total. Anyways I decided I wanted to build a Chaos army as the models are amazing and there is a lot of variety when it comes to painting. So I have started with some chaos warriors and decided to go with a worn, dirty, iron look for the armor with gehenna's highlights and a blue grey for the fur trim. However i am stuck as to what color to do the cloak. I originally just used the crimson wash to creat a dark pink cloak but I don't find it looks right. Any suggestions/critiques etc would be greatly appreciated.
  4. It's mostly been monsters and beasts for my Chaos army so far, but I'm spreading my net into Slaves to Darkness (you can blame the Start Collecting! Slaves to Darkness box - I *may* have a Start Collecting! box problem). I'm kick off with a small unit of Chaos Warriors - an old sculpt, but still iconic to me. I went with yellow to keep them unaligned (and once you discount all the patron gods, there isn't much left in the colour palette!) These guys hit the tables this weekend. I'm trying them with a mix of other chaos stuff - nothing faction-specific, just a big chaotic mess, so we'll see how they perform.
  5. In my last post I talked briefly about the Budget of Sigmar 2 challenge that is being run by @Vincent Venturella from Warhammer Weekly. I have completed my month 1 submission now and I am also starting to flesh out the rest of the projects to make up the army. You can see the layout of the challenge here: I have broken it down into the models that I have and that I can easily convert, as the key point of the challenge is to get some level of conversion into every single model. To achieve this I have decided that I want to use a mix of Nurgle demons and Mortal units. The models I have chosen so far are: LeadersMonth 4: Rotbringers Sorcerer (100)Month 2: Lord of Plagues (100)UnitsMonth 1: Chaos Warriors x 10 (180)- Halberd & Shield - COMPLETEDMonth 2: Beasts Of Nurgle x 3 (180) Month 3: Putrid Blightkings x 5 (180) Month 4: Chaos Marauders x 10 (60)Month 5: Chaos Marauders x 10 (60) Month 6: ??BehemothsMonth 3: Soul Grinder (280)War Machines I still need to make a decision on my final month unit and also a war machine/behemoth for month 5. I'd quite like to do something from the Monstrous Arcanum, but I don't know anything about what is available yet. For my month 1 submission I went with something simple - a unit of 10 Chaos Warriors. I want to make the units be a little savage and barbaric, so to show this I have used the Bonespitterz shields and halberds for the weapons. I think this is a nice easy theme to run throughout the rest of the army. For the marauders I will use the rest of the hand weapons along with plague bearer heads. These should go nicely onto the existing Marauders that I have got. I have made a good start with a number of the other months submissions as well. I think I need to work in this way as otherwise I will not get it done. For example the Soul Grinder is a model I have had lying around for ages in bits that has not been finished. I have also got 6 plague drones which I have used to make the blight kings and the Beasts of Nurgle. I am quite excited about how the army will look and also how it will make a good dent into my unpainted pile of chaos stuff. I also like the enforced time line. It means I can work on other models and armies at the same time as the hobby challenge is progressing,
