  1. Here is the new thread for discussing Blades of Khorne. With the imminent release of AoS 2 (and a lot of the info already being out there), now is the time for us to start afresh on TGA. Moving forward, this will be the main thread to chat about and discuss Blades of Khorne in the new edition. I still wholly encourage people to keep their own threads/army blogs within this sub forum and I also think those are a great place to share some photos as I know not everyone frequents the Painting & Modelling section. But this thread is purely for discussion around the faction, things such as (but not limited to) tactics and list building etc. You all know the drill, we've been doing it on this forum since inception! For newer players, I would say the older thread could still be worth perusal and whilst it is now locked for further replies, you can find it here - http://www.tga.community/forums/topic/6134-lets-chat-blades-of-khorne/ Really excited to see what we can come up with as a community and I look forward to reading all your ideas and thoughts.
  2. Recently, in the Beasts of Chaos discussion thread, a post inquired about what opportunities arise when playing Beasts of Chaos battalions out of the various Chaos God allegiances. Rather than simply answer there, I figured it might be helpful to respond in a new thread. That way, we can hopefully grow the conversation in a way that is more accessible to both casual review and search attempts. Beasts of Chaos Allegiance Before getting to the four Chaos God allegiances, it might be helpful to note what a Beasts of Chaos player gives up when using those. The Beasts of Chaos allegiance itself is a collection of minor, albeit interesting benefits, each keyed to the main Beasts of Chaos factions: Brayherd, Warherd, and Thunderscorn. Note that the Beasts of Chaos' menagerie of monsters (cockatrice, jabberslythe, chimera, etc.) get nothing from the allegiance's battle traits, little from the currently available Greatfrays, and only slight buffs from the allegiance's spell lores (the "Titanic Fury" spell notwithstanding). Nor are these monsters involved in the four Chaos God battalions. The focus of comparison thus centers on how Brayherd, Warherd, and Thunderscorn play differently in each setting. Only Beasts of Chaos allegiance armies get to ambush, only Beasts of Chaos allegiance armies get the Herdstone and its related Primordial Call mechanic, and (perhaps most significantly) only Beasts of Chaos allegiance armies get to use Bestigors, Bullgors, and Dragon Ogors as Battleline if the general is either Brayherd, Warherd, or Thunderscorn. I think the latter point is probably the biggest factor in allegiance selection. Having the option to forego Gors or Ungors, in favor of more elite forces, is attractive. With the recent price discount of Warherd units in the December FAQ, fielding an exclusively elite unit Beasts of Chaos army is more accessible. It is also helpful to note that the Beasts of Chaos allegiance can field a surprising amount of high Rend. The Herdstone itself creates an ever-increasing Rend effect. Further options include: fielding Warherd with Great Axes, the Brayherd spell "Tendrils of Atrophy," the Thunderscorn spell "Sundering Blades," and several artefacts. In fact, not many armies can have two Heroes with -3 Rend, which a Beasts of Chaos allegiance army can do by fielding two Dragon Ogor Shaggoths (one with an “Ancestral Azyrite Blade” and one with either Chamon’s “Rune Blade” or Ulgu’s “Dimensional Blade”). Much is said elsewhere about ambushing and summoning. Brayherd units often contribute the most to these two features. Beyond the Brayherd, the Beasts of Chaos allegiance's capacity to make Thunderscorn run and charge (via the artefact “Horn of the Tempest”), along with the Creatures of the Storm battle trait, results in Thunderscorn being one of the game’s faster heavy cavalry choices when used in this allegiance. The Warherd’s Bloodgorge battle trait is somewhat underappreciated, too. By the way, while earlier conventional wisdom seemed to recommend fielding Bullgors and Dragon Ogors in MSU, I think running units of six alongside their respective Hero option is the way to go. Bullgors benefit from having a Doombull nearby, not just for Slaughterer’s Call, but also for Inspiring Presence. Dragon Ogors are strong with the ability to re-roll ones when near a Dragon Ogor Shaggoth. Such seems applicable to all the possible allegiance options. Khorne Allegiance The biggest benefit to running a Brass Despoilers-heavy army out of the Blades of Khorne seems to be Khorne’s capacity to give units additional attacks. The Bloodsecrator (especially when buffed by the Gore Pilgrims battalion) and Wrathmongers make this possible. Both Bestigors and Warherd are the strongest recipients of this resource. Large units of Bestigors, if their charges maximize frontage, can produce a startling amount of -1 Rend attacks. When fully buffed, Tuskgor Chariots can also be surprisingly good in Khorne. Warherd probably gain the most, though, complementing their already high Rend and the battalion’s re-roll benefits. A solid unit of Bullgors in Khorne can put out a lot of damage. In range of both the Bloodsecrator and Wrathmongers, a fully-engaged unit of six with unit leader has 25 attacks at a stat line of 4+ re-roll 1s/3+/-2/3. A Ghorgon is particularly nasty in Khorne when fully buffed, with three potential Huge Slavering Maw attacks. Remember that the Wrathmongers’ buff helps the Cygor’s missile attack, too. Tzeentch Allegiance Warherd are going to come up several times in these discussions, because several Chaos God allegiances provide ways to address the Warherd’s weaknesses. Those weaknesses include few attacks, average accuracy, and no innate ability to run and charge. Khorne addressed the first by doubling, when fully buffed, a Bullgor’s attack output. Tzeentch addresses the accuracy issue. Destiny Dice can help ensure the Bullgors hit their targets. Even better, note that the new Tzeentch book explicitly states that Destiny Dice count as unmodified dice. This means that when used by Warherd to score 6s for their to Wound rolls, Destiny Dice activate Bloodgreed/Ravenous Bloodgreed. A Fatemaster’s innate command ability is arguably a better buff for Warherd than the Doombull’s. Also of note is the Hosts Duplicitous Change Coven: an armywide buff that prohibits enemies from retreating seems helpful in a Warherd-heavy army. Lastly, successful completion of agendas can result in different Warherd units that increase considerably in potency as a game progresses. Nurgle Allegiance Once more, Warherd benefit arguably the most in Nurgle, gaining increased maneuverability thanks to both the Great Unclean One’s “Doomsday Bell” and the Feculent Gnarlmaw’s run and charge buff. When combined with a maximized run, a Ghorgon can reliably move 17” on its first turn, making first turn charges a real possibility. This is without factoring in an additional 2” movement bonus from the Cycle of Corruption, and also without further speed buffs from endless spells. Effective management of the Cycle of Corruption is a key to getting the most out of a Pestilent Throng in a Nurgle allegiance army. Its wizards gain access to the “Foul Regenesis” spell, just like all Nurgle wizards in a Nurgle allegiance army. If cast successfully, pick the bonus needed at the moment, with an eye to the next turn, too. An armywide +1 to Wound is helpful, especially for those units like Bestigors and Warherd that are already at 3+ to Wound. Alternatively, if defense is needed, the capacity to neuter opposing forces’ exploding 6s might be more useful in some circumstances. Healing should not be ignored; remember, the Great Unclean One’s innate spell also heals Nurgle units, which include a Pestilent Throng’s multiple wound Warherd, Thunderscorn, and even the Brayherd’s Centigors. Centigors (and, to perhaps a lesser degree, Bestigors) in a Nurgle allegiance army have a particular combination available to them when buffed by a Rotbringer Sorcerer’s “Blades of Putrefaction” spell. These Brayherd units both have an innate capacity to gain +1 to Hit (Bestigors is dependent on opposing units). That bonus means that the additional mortal wounds made possible by “Blades of Putrefaction” trigger on 5+ to Hit rolls, rather just 6+. With the amount of attacks Centigors and Bestigors inflict, such results in a high likelihood of many mortal wounds prior to damage from the attacks themselves. The speed at which “Blades of Putrefaction”-buffed Centigors and/or Bestigors can move, combined with Warherd units’ own improved movement, results in a Pestilent Throng that can reliably charge a surprising amount of elite units on the first turn. Slaanesh Allegiance Thunderscorn gain arguably the most from Euphoric Killers, given innate amount of attacks available in a given space, with both Warherd and Bestigors also significantly benefiting from that armywide buff. A Dragon Ogor Shaggoth also has an innate healing option which, combined with its high wound count, can result in many Depravity Points becoming available over the course of a game. Additional benefits for a Depraved Drove in a Slaanesh allegiance army likely depend on the Host chosen at army creation. A Godseekers list amps up units’ already above average speed. A Pretenders list allows Gors to both re-roll 1s to Hit and have a melee 4+ save, making a 30 block unit of Gors a cost effective buy at 200 points each. Further, a Pretenders list can run a Doombull with both the “Hunter of Godbeasts” command trait and the “Sliverslash” artefact, resulting in a Hero that: (1) re-rolls charges against an opposing Hero Monster with an artefact (many armies have these), (2) attacks five times at 3+/3+/-2/4, re-rolling to Hit rolls, (3) inflicts additional mortal wounds on unmodified to Wound rolls of 6, and (4) rolls additional attacks from Bullgor Horns. An Invaders list might slightly edge out a Pretenders list as the most efficient option for a Depraved Drove. While its outright potential damage output might be somewhat less, the additional range for command ability like Inspiring Presence is very attractive for units with average Bravery. Also, the “Best of the Best” command trait complements the Depraved Drove benefit, especially for a Thunderscorn Hero. When fighting an opposing Hero that has an artefact, a Dragon Ogor Shaggoth general, armed with a Rune Blade or Dimensional Blade, will attack three times at 3+/3+/-3/3, re-rolling to Hit and to Wound, plus other melee attacks. That is a strong Hero killer. Closing Thoughts Beasts of Chaos is a fun range of units to play in and of themselves, before even considering which allegiance one finds most fun. At times, I have explored all five options; each has an appeal that might surprisingly compel my interest for a time before I move on to a different build. I recommend eventually trying them all, but for beginners, especially those without much experience with Beasts of Chaos units, I think starting with the Beasts of Chaos allegiance is the best bet. Learn the basics of what the Brayherd, Warherd, and Thunderscorn do well and what they do not do well. Get a sense for their capacity for speed relative to other armies, as well as how their respective innate buffs complement each unit. If there is an aspect to the Beasts of Chaos range that you discover you particularly enjoy (high Rend capability, high speed, etc.), then explore the Chaos God allegiance that most accentuates that facet. Have fun! I hope the above is helpful and look forward to the conversation. Happy wargaming!
  3. Clang...... clang........ clang went the hammer on the boiling bloodforge of Khorne. Red lacquered armor was being constructed by the Skullgrinder known as Kranar Bloodhammer. His Brass Anvil, glowing red with the incandescent rage of the blood god Khorne, produced some of the finest armor in the realms. "Kranar, you have been summoned by Khul!" shouted a voice through the dense smoke of the forge. Kranar slowly dropped his hammer and looked back, in a low gravely voice he responded, "Tell him the armor is ready and the weapons are thirsty for blood." Kranar walked towards the Dreadhold carrying his massive brass anvil and flanked by a ten warriors of the blood god. Soon enough the thirst would be quenched he thought. Kranar Bloodhammer and Ten Bloodwarriors of Khorne have been completed and added to the growing army. Thank you to all of those who viewed last weeks post and liked it, it is much appreciated! Next week I will be working on an endless spell and a second Slaughter Priest. Until next week, blood for the blood god and skulls for the skull throne.
  4. The blood red sky drenches a desolate span of the Scarlands. Khorgos Khul, the mighty lord of the Goretide has caught wind of the rise of the Ossiarch Bone Reapers of the Black Pyramid. At this time he gathers his lieutenants around the Dreadhold to discuss how they will destroy this menace. "There is only one lord of Skulls" Khul decries. "Where is Kranar Bloodhammer my trusted Skullgrinder, we must start the forges of war!" This week I will be working on painting Kranar Bloodhammer a Skullgrinder for my blades of Khorne army. I am basing the Skullgrinder off of the paint scheme of the bloodwarriors posted on the Youtube Warhammer Channel by Duncan Rhodes. I will also be leveraging techniques by Tyler Mengal depicted on his website. Below are pictures of Khul himself and his current lieutenants.
  5. Hi all, Finally getting around to building my Tyrants of Blood over the holiday weekend, and I’m running into a question of what a thirster is legally supposed to be based on in AOS currently? We have at least three base sizes out there now, and as I’m just getting back to the hobby I want to ensure I will be legal for local tournaments and such. While getting all of our flying death machines on a neat 100mm round is likely a pipe dream, I’m sincerely hope we are not to be basing our thirsters on dinner plates now...appreciate any feed back or things I may have missed. Thanks! -Skarbrand came with a 100mm round (special character and walking) -Both “normal” thirster kits I have (one purchased in 2016 and another a month ago) came with the 120mm oval -The gw site currently says the box is shipped with a 160x160 dinner plate!
  6. Hello, I want to make a list of army of beasts of chaos with some of the formations that come out in the battletome dedicated to the gods of chaos. My question is: which of these 2 battletome of chaos (Blades of khorne, maggothkin of nurgle) makes more synergy with the beasts of chaos? I am open to debate, I really like maggothkin models but they are very outdated in rules. Also if you want to leave lists of guides, I would be very grateful. Thanks for your opinions.
  7. Alright lads! So with a new tome having been released, I've managed to catch the painting bug again! This time I want to focus on getting all 2000pts of my Khorne army completely finished. Recently picked up the Skulltaker, Tome, Judgments, Skull Altar, and Warscroll Cards upon release, and painted up the Skulltaker as soon as I primed him. Such a fun model to paint! Current list of stuff that needs painting: - 2 Slaughterpriests - 1 Bloodthirster - 9 Mighty Skullcrushers (Only have 3 atm so will be saving those till I get the other 6, by far my favourite models!) - 10 Flesh Hounds (Still need to buy these) - 1 Bloodstoker - 30 Bloodletters (Still need 10 more) - Wrath Axe, Hexgorger Skulls, and Skull Altar Heres hoping I dont get any painters block or lose that painting streak! Thanks to all of you who pop by and have a look at what I have, and will paint!
  8. Hello! I am preparing a mutli-layered present box for my brother to get him into AoS. I know he is into Khorne (in 40k at least) but can't afford another army. So far he wasn't hooked by AoS due to my other brother's Stromcast stomping him while he playtested Daughters of Khaine. The box will include 700+ Points worth of Blades of Khorne and the Battletome. Each layer contains several models and the final layer includes the Battletome. I wanted to make this special with each layer being seperated by one or two scorched pages with Khorne Fluff inscribed on them. I want to symbolize how he strides further and further on the path of khorne until he finally serves Khorne utterly with opening the final layer, which is the Battletome. I was looking for hints on short fluff texts I can use but I was unable to find any so far. So I was hoping you could help me out. I am looking for prayers to khorne, short stories and descriptions of the red feast, eight lamentations etc. Any help is highly appreciated!
  9. Concept Aelves. Possibilities include, 1) female human Blood Reavers, 2) Aelves as part of Blades of Khorne, 3) Aelves as part of Slaanesh warhost

    novice doubt

I have a question about how the bloodletters are considered when creating a list. When I deploy my units, the bloodletters count within the points of my army? or do they arrive for free through the tithe of blood ???
  11. Howdy. Me and my mates decided to get into Age Of Sigmar about a month ago now and all decided to get an army each and have some fun with it. Personally i thought Khorne looked really fun and also kind of gave me nostalgia from the Heroes of might and magic series inferno faction. I have been having tons of fun painting, building and playing Khorne and having games 3 times a week at my locals and with my friends is a really enjoyable experience. A month later and we are still having alot of fun playing however we are all trying to get a lot more competitive (Which i see as a good thing). Some of our other friends may also be getting into AoS so hopefully i will be playing for a long time. Today i decided to make an account to receive tips and advice from other experienced players and will also try to help you guys out as well. Looking forward to hearing from ya!
  12. Hi, Im thinking about a 1500 points competetive list for blades of khorne. The heart of the list should be murderhost battalion, since im focused on deamons and want to deploy the army in as few drops as possible. Heres my base lsit: Heroes: - Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster (330) General - Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne (80) - Bloodsecrator (120) - Bloodstoker (80) Battleline - 30 x Bloodleteters (270) - 10 x Bloodletters (110) Troops - 3 x Bloodcrushers (160) - 3 x Bloodcrusher (160) Battalions - Murderhost (120) That would put me at 1430 point. I know that a Bloodsecrators buff is pretty good, but since all the demons would rush forward, they would be out of his skull portal reach from the first turn on. So I'm not sure about his effectiveness in this list. Maybe just from turn 2 on. The bloodstoker is pretty essential, because of his distance buff, helping me to crush in with the bloodletters in turn 1, also rerolling wounds. In total, that list would deploy in 4 drops. Do you have any ideas how i could minimize it further? Also, do you know the typical drop numbers to deploy other armies? Cheers
  13. Hi , I wanted to hear what you guys think of my 1000 pts list for blades of khorne. My focus is on demons with some mortal support units. Leaders Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster (330) -> general Bloodsecrator (120) Blood stoker (80) Battlelines 30 x Bloodletters (270) 10xBlood Warriors (200) I know, that the bloodthirster is pretty expensive for 1000 pts, but i just got him and want to play him. Should I maybe drop the secrator or the stoker? Since i got the feeling, that some more battleline troops would come in handy, but i really like the buffs. Im curios what you guys think and if you have some good tips for me.
  14. Hey y'all, I like to theorize and tinker with various list ideas. I've thought about this for some time, and was thinking of fielding a Bloodforged Gore Pilgrim list. Attached below is what I've come up with. I'm not trying to be competitive, but rather I'm aiming to have a list that's both fun and rewarding. The premise is that the priests cause the enemy to either run toward my advancing horde, or soften them up with blood boil. My Might Lord of Khorne uses his command abilities, trait, and artifact to better my chances of making successful charges and getting into combat. The blood secrator does what he does and plants the banner, preferably near my priests to increase the range of his abilities, and near the other units to give the reroll 1's to hit. The core of blood warriors and wrathmongers attack in the front line, while the Gore Pilgrim's bloodreaver's and 5 man unit of blood warriors separate from the main group to hold various objectives around the map. In combat, the priests buff the blood warriors with bronze flesh, giving them a 3+ in addition to being immune to -1 rend that makes them tough, giving a higher opportunity to achieve a save and to activate the gorefist; the killing frenzy's +1 attack is there to help (preferably for the skullgrinder or the Mighty Lord of Khorne). With 5 attacks each, they should do pretty well against most front line units; though the wrathmongers would come in handy dealing with anything that's big and monstrous. I don't want to rant on about each units and detail in the army, cause I think the rest of it is pretty straight forward. I think my biggest weakness would be heavy ranged based lists, but that's a weakness that I feel in general Khorne has. The priests would mitigate some of it, but still..... Gladiators.pdf
  15. "A monsterous champion from former worlds, Killax has seen the destruction of a war-torn world, what angered him more than being removed from the battles was that upon it's destruction not even the so called God Warrior Sigmar showed himself as a possible worthy warrior to Khorne. After the destruction Killax, a Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster was bound to Khorne's domain, leading the thousands of forges. As the battles could not even come close to that of The End Times his anger blazed the Wrathforged furnaces..." Hi guys, with this small lore bit I decided to create a Khorne army to be used exclusively for Age of Sigmar. As I really like the Blades of Khorne book and Khorne army I can only say that the latest book release has truely sped up my creative process. Here is the first model I've done for Age of Sigmar, as you can see it's still WIP. As soon as I find some time again I'll also continue to update this topic Hopefully with some finished results and eventually better pictures! (My current good camera is broken) Skintone (mediocre picture but one of the few that comes remotely close to the actual result) Wrathforged Armour Current status: As the holes in the back might reveal, I've done a little bit of a conversion on these models. I really like what Wrathmongers do on the battlefield and hope I can expand my army with at least 2 choices of these units. Though I must say I also like the Skullreapers, Bloodletters and Skullcrushers a lot aswell. My Skullcrushers are going to be converted out of spare bodies from the Skullreapers/Wrathmongers and I think this will allow me to blend them in better with the current 'Bloodbound' model range. Hope you guys like it! If you have any question on the colours used, steps taken or other random stuff, feel free to leave a comment. Cheers,
  16. Hi all, Tonight I had my first game with my new BoK army v Bonesplitters and I got annihilated lol! We played Scorched Earth mission. My list is below and he had... A Shaman type Hero, 2 Shamans on boars, some funny old boys with huge stick things, 2 units of 10 Boar boys, 30 arrow boys and an Idol of Gork.. It didn't look a lot on the table, what 54 models but wowsers that's like 136 odd wounds ?! Running Murderhost was interesting.. Pre game I rolled 2 7's for both Bloodletters units and a 6 for the Herald. Trying to work out if 120 points was worth it. He had 8 drops so went first. He killed 13 Bloodletters with the arrow boys, and I lost like a further 5 in Battleshock.. My turn 1 managed to get 30 Bloodletters into combat with these stick dudes and his big arrow boy unit which were both in the centre. Bloodletters did like 14 wounds / 7 arrow boys, but got smashed back by the damage from them killer huge stick dudes (12 Bloodletters were killed from justvtgat 1 unit..)!? The weakened 12 man Bloodletter unit whiffed their charge. It then just went downhill from there lol.. -My 2 Mighty Skullcrusher units were on rear guard duty holding objectives so whilst scored my points, didn't do anything and got charged by the boar units -Bloodthirsters whiffed against the Idol and Boar boys -Idol stomped 10 wounds on the WoKBT too, then arrow boys finished him off shooting out of combat at him!!? -Bigger bases are great for extending ranges (e.g. Herald on Jug, Bloodthirster etc), as Crimson Crown was great when got it in -Bloodsectrator was good but his 18" range is interesting in a fast moving army -Murderhost was meh in the game, however can understand it can be really good and need to keep trying it -Can't help but think the Blood Host would synergise really well with Blood Tithe however At the moment the 'fat' in it is the 2 MSC units, the 20 points left over and the Blood Warriors = 400 points in all, however need a third Battleline unit.. Great game, learnt loads. Should be playing Slyvaneth next week ?? -
  17. Hey again guys! I'm back with some more battalion-related blades of khorne questions! there seems to be a common notion that with GHB 2017 the Goretide has lost a lot of its efficacy, i guess my question would be could a goretide list still be workable from a competitive standpoint? I'm curious about this because the bonuses that you get from using it (besides the one-drop status and the extra artifact, of course) seem decently useful, what with the fact that you gain hero phase movement, a de facto Khorgus Khul, and some charge shenanigans. I'd love to hear what you guys think!
  18. I've made this Ogroid a little Khornish and before I go further with it, I'm just looking at what I could run him as. He is big enough to fit a juggernaught profile. I think I like him as a Mighty Lord, but I'd love to know what you'd use him for. Once I know, I'm busting out the green stuff and getting this bad boy going.
  19. Been spending quite a bit of time with my nose in the Blades of Khorne book. The more I read it the more I like the idea of Khorne deamons list. Now I have always been a Bloodbound guy but there lack of heavy hitters becomes and issue right off. Blood Thirsters and Hell Cannons with Bloodletters seems like fast fun. Anyone else building 1000 or 2000 point lists around the Deamons? would love to see your list and hear your thoughts on the Deamons of Khorne.
  20. I'm working on this Khorne Lord conversions and have a ton of green stuff work to do, but I figured I'd share the progress here. He is made from bits from the Bloodthirster, bloodsecrator, Mighty Lord of Khorne, Lord Cellestant on Dracoth, Skullreapers and Slaughterpriest models!
  21. After many painful hours of painting, I have 20 bloodreavers to show. I kind of hate how detailed they are for how easy they are to kill, but I also love them once they are painted. The squad went in with my usual yellow theme, similar to my Bloodstoker. Most of the base painting was actually done with multiple layers of inks and washes over a preshaded zenithal priming. This does lead to a lot of the same skin tone, so I do plan to experiment a little on future batches. I do like how the blue trousers came out though. With these fellows out of the way, I can now focus on bigger, badder models for a little bit, which has me very excited!
