  1. OBR has allies in the story of Wrath of the Everchosen -Only a minor spoiler for WotE ahead, nothing about the conclusion. People who comment please avoid spoilers as well- So in the story of the book, one of the first things Katakros does in his plan to seize the Eightpoints is realize his units will hard pressed to push through the defenses of Chaos’ Dreadholds. In a move a smart general would make, he sends word to Lady Olynder to lead her procession as a vanguard for his forces as they can pass through the walls and gates with ease, and open the way for his soldiers. In the first battle, the death alliance even raises the bodies of the dead chaos defenders as zombies as send them through the Endgate as chaff to cover the OBR advance. This happens several times, showing narratively, that Katakros is not above using other types of undead when he rightly realizes that they would be better tools for the job than his elite troops. He willingly initiates alliances with Nighthaunt and Deathmages (who made zombies for him). Let OBR use, and be, allies on the tabletop. It would only take one sentence to solve the “relentless discipline for command abilities” problem, by not letting RDP be used for command abilities of non OBR units. It remains one of the more disappointing choices in my eyes that Nagash’s view of a united undead-topia are spearheaded by a force unable to take or be allied in other forces, solely because of poor design choices.
  2. Hey guys! I have a huge question that might change my army. Who can Slaves to Darkness Ally with? I really want to ally a Chaos Dragon into my army for a very chaotic reason, but I need to know if it is legal to do this in casual and competitive. Thanks!
  3. Hot Peanut

Hi, I tried to build an army in azyr and got the following message: I couldn’t find that rule. Where does this come from?
  4. This is 2 lists i've made and i was hoping to get some good advice or comments on what to to further evolve this into a more competetive one or just to hear your thoughts on what you like and don't. so too explain the thought process behind this in a very short review: 80 point wizard with Chronomantic Cogs to further help my dudes fly up the board + some MW spells to help around. Warboss + Megaboss to combine the command abilities to get 2 extra attacks. Guzzler because with MS i think it has got a place in this list (maw krusha to expensive) and i wanted some big support. Ironfist for the movement and som extra wounds. Gruntas and/or Ard boyz depending on you comments and critical views of one of the lists or both. Brutes because Brutes Da Best! warchanters are always good? 2 CP to start with and a variety of models to both have fun and smack som heads in. anything i've missed or something you've discovered in the new edition that could be good to know?
  5. TL:DR Do you believe gw intend allies never gain from allegiance abilities or do the rules allow for it to potentially apply? Hi, please discuss and be nice to everyone. I want this to be a thought provoking process not a how to break the system. No one wants that. With that allow me to explain a theory I have with allies having recently purchased the Legions of Nagash battle time. Reading the allegiance abilities of each kind of army I've noticed the rule for Deathless minions is this, 'Roll a dice each time you allocate a wound or mortal wound to a friendly DEATH unit within 6" of your general or another friendly DEATH HERO. On a 6+ the wound is negated' This is the same as it is for the Grand Alliance AA. Now I'm building a Legion of Nagash force (not yet decided on the specific legion yet). But I'll likely want to use some of my painted Flesh Eaters to get me into a game sooner. But this got me thinking, when do these abilities apply to allies if at all. In the GHB17 for the Flesh Eaters AA it has a similar except it specifies FLESH-EATER COURTS as the keyword which 100% rules out applying to any allies. So again does that mean in the LoN book was it a deliberate choice to keyword DEATH instead of LEGION OF NIGHT for example. So again in GHB17 on page 76 I decided to read up about allies. It states 'Allied units are treated as part of the player's army, except that they are not included when working out the army's allegiance or the number of battleline units in the army, and an allied unit cannot be the general.' So that states they are part of your army for all intents and purposes. Other than the general it doesn't state allied heros can't have an artifact thought I'm not 100% convinced they can. However the next bit in GHB17 is telling when it comes to AA, 'Remember that in most cases allegiance abilities only work for units with the appropriate keyword, ' and then the book provides and example. I underlined 'most' because that is what got me thinking that the GHB17 isn't ruling out AA applying the allies. So going back to LoN book, Deathless minions for each of the 'Legion of xxx' and the Grand host of Nagash' AA may now mean that even an allied DEATH HERO can provide the ability. There is more to discuss, especially concern the Magic selection but I think the above is at least a good starting discussion. It also makes me wonder if anyone has noticed in other battletomes similar keyword uses that may have been missed that could apply to allies.
  6. As the title says I am currently weighing up two lists, one Pure KO and the other Allied with Fyreslayers. The Fyreslayers list gives me more bodies to hold objectives with and they'll be brought on by the Runesmiter so can be pretty mobile first turn. The Pure list has Skywarden squads to run around grabbing objectives but obviously in smaller numbers. Curious to find out which people think is the better list so without further to do here are the lists List 1 Pure KO Allegiance: Kharadron Overlords Skyport: Barak-Zilfin - Additional Footnote: There's No Trading With Some People Leaders Arkanaut Admiral (140) - General - Trait: Grudgebearer - Artefact: Aetherschok Bludgeon Aether-Khemist (140) Aether-Khemist (140) Battleline 20 x Arkanaut Company (240) - 6x Light Skyhooks 10 x Arkanaut Company (120) - 3x Aethermatic Volley Guns 10 x Arkanaut Company (120) - 3x Aethermatic Volley Guns Units 9 x Endrinriggers (360) - 2x Grapnel Launchers 3 x Skywardens (100) - 1x Aethermatic Volley Guns - 1x Drill Cannons 3 x Skywardens (100) - 1x Aethermatic Volley Guns - 1x Drill Cannons 3 x Skywardens (100) - 1x Aethermatic Volley Guns - 1x Drill Cannons War Machines Arkanaut Ironclad (440) - Main Gun: Aethermatic Volley Cannon - Great Endrinworks: Aetherspheric Endrinds (Barak-Zilfin Skyvessel) Total: 2000 / 2000 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 110 List 2 Allies Allegiance: Kharadron Overlords Skyport: Barak-Zilfin - Additional Footnote: There's No Trading With Some People Leaders Aether-Khemist (140) - General - Trait: Prospector - Artefact: Aethershock Earbuster Aether-Khemist (140) Auric Runesmiter (80) - Runic Iron - Allies Battleline 20 x Arkanaut Company (240) - 6x Light Skyhooks 10 x Arkanaut Company (120) - 3x Aethermatic Volley Guns 10 x Arkanaut Company (120) - 3x Aethermatic Volley Guns Units 12 x Endrinriggers (480) - 2x Grapnel Launchers 20 x Vulkite Berzerkers (240) - Pairs of Handaxes - Allies War Machines Arkanaut Ironclad (440) - Main Gun: Aethermatic Volley Cannon - Great Endrinworks: Aetherspheric Endrinds (Barak-Zilfin Skyvessel) Total: 2000 / 2000 Allies: 320 / 400 Wounds: 117 Opinions on which list is the better please
  7. As I've been getting into AoS and building my first army as Kharadron Overlords, I've been looking at a lot of KO builds lately. It seems that clown car is the current meta build, which is fine, but I was hoping to hear what the community thinks of KOs current allies options, as I am sure I'll want to change up my painting in the future, while still building towards a viable army build. With 400 points, and access to only Duardin and SE, we don't seem to have a huge amount of options if we want to keep the KO allegiance abilities: We could take a large number of Dwarf Warriors or Longbeards with a Runesmith to act as a durable screen for our ranged units, yet their mobility will be a huge issue. Also, why bother with Dispossessed ranged units when we have our own that we can transport via airship? Vulkite Berserkers with a Runesmiter could be a great potential way to teleport a tar-pit onto the board wherever we decide we need one. (Can you buy a Runesmiter on its own? Or do people just sub another hero model as a Runesmiter in this situation?) Knight Azyros has an ability that synergizes extremely well with KO, and you could take a unit of Fulminators/Vanguard Palladors as escort and a source of mortal wounds that KO otherwise lack. I would love to hear other options or opinions on allies for KO.
  8. I have recently picked up my Kharadron Overlords again with Malign Portents arriving and need to bit of help with Allies. Below is my first thought with what Allies I feel would fill a gap in my list but any advice on the list as a whole is welcome, also any tips on useful allies would be greatly appreciated too. So the planned list as it stands, Allegiance: Kharadron Overlords Skyport: Barak-Zilfin Leaders Aether-Khemist (140) - General - Trait: Rising Star - Artefact: Aethershock Earbuster Aether-Khemist (140) Auric Runesmiter (80) - Runic Iron - Allies Battleline 10 x Arkanaut Company (120) - 3x Light Skyhooks 10 x Arkanaut Company (120) - 3x Skypikes 10 x Arkanaut Company (120) - 3x Aethermatic Volley Guns Units 12 x Skywardens (400) - 4x Aethermatic Volley Guns - 4x Drill Cannons 10 x Grundstok Thunderers (200) - 2x Aethershot Rifles - 2x Aetheric Fumigators - 2x Decksweepers - 2x Aethercannons - 2x Grundstok Mortars 20 x Vulkite Berzerkers (240) - Pairs of Handaxes - Allies War Machines Arkanaut Ironclad (440) - Main Gun: Aethermatic Volley Cannon - Great Endrinworks: Aetherspheric Endrinds (Barak-Zilfin Skyvessel) Total: 2000 / 2000 Allies: 320 / 400 Wounds: 117 Idea is simple, Zilfin in the Ironclad with Light Skyhook Arkanauts, Skywardens, Thunderers and Khemists. Khemists Buff Arkanauts Skyhooks and Skywardens Drills. Same time the Runesmiter brings in the 20 Vulkite Berserkers, would have loved 30 but 400 point cap will not allow. Only units on the board to start are 2 10 man Arkanaut units to hold home objectives. As I've said Tips and Tricks and Advice Very Much Welcome. Thanks
  9. A friend asked me this and I wasn't 100% on how to answer. My first instinct was no you can't do it but looking at the allie rules Im not so sure. Here goes. Can an army of ironjawz take bile troggoths as allies. Ironjawz can take troggoths as allies. Bile troggoths have troggoth key word. Allies rules dont mention faction. Can someone tell me he can't do and explain why.
  10. I've been giving a bit of thought to the best use of our Allies slot - there are multiple holes to fill, so what can achieve the most within the 400 point cap? I initially went straight to Spear Chukkas, because their long range, heavy rend and multiple damage can be brutally effective. Best of all, because you can out range most shooty armies, you can force them to step forward into the Lion's Den. So far however I have found them very unreliable, and with their low number of attacks, I fear their "diceyness" could be a fundamental flaw. Another unit I really like (though have yet to try) is 30x Arrow Boys. This is the one that I feel will be most effective, for the following reasons: - They fill the "Unit of 20+" slot that is advantageous in 2 of the new missions - They give you the same number of wounds and board control as 30x Arboyz (they are on 32mm bases), at a lower cost (albeit a worse save) - Unlike Ardboyz, because they are ranged, they can do their thing without having to step off an objective. You can actually threaten, while still dominating the spaces you want to dominate - They cover the shooting gap in our army nicely (unlike say a Rogue Idol). Some things (e.g. Blood Warriors) you really want to kill outside of the combat phase, which this allows you to do - Even unbuffed, their volume of shots makes up for their poor To Hit roll. They will put out a similar amount of damage against a 4+ save (at a similar cost) to 10x Judicators, whilst offering the higher number of models and wounds discussed above - Don't forget they have rend -1 against monsters - They synergise well with the Weirdnob Shaman (he works off the Orruk keyword), giving him +2 to cast, and providing a source of cheap wounds to soak up the mortals from casting on a double - For 10 points more than the 30x Ardboyz, you can have 30x Arrow Boys AND a Balewind Vortex. Given that 450 points from the Ardboyz puts you on an odd number, it's probably effectively the same cost in a lot of builds - That now gives you +3 to cast and double range on the WNS, so he is now essentially your artillery, putting out mortal wounds at long range - A WNS on BWV is also now a second tanky hero in Duality of Death. Yes, he can be shot off the BWV, but he always could. At least he is now automatically in cover, and essentially melee proof - It can also give you a cheeky 3" hero phase move, pushing your Brutes etc forward when summoned - It is also 2 more units (WNS on BWV and 30x Arrow Boys) that your opponent probably feels they HAVE to deal with, giving them target saturation and keeping your Brutes alive So all in all, I feel this one unit can cover multiple rolls and synergies simultaneously. Artillery? Mortal Wounds? A 30-strong blob? Damage outside the combat phase? All of the above! How say you?
  11. Let's see if there's ever an FAQ on this, the discussions here aren't really getting anywhere.
  12. Hi! I don't have the new book or havn't found the answer by googling or skimming through multiple forums. What death armies can the Mourngol ally with? The keywords for the Mourngol is "DEATH, MALIGNANT, NIGHTHAUNT, MONSTER, MOURNGUL" Because I heard somewhere that it's some ally restrictions unless you build a Grand Alliance army. - I want to have a flesh eaters army but heard some can't ally with them. So which subfaction can the Mourngol ally with?
  13. will varanguard maybe start to become a thing? i mean, if they get their warscroll changed (hopefully) or they do get a good reduction in points they could become useful. they fill a specific role, the high damage cavalry, which isn't too much explored in chaos (and in general). now that they don't break allegiance there can be more of a point to pick them, also because archaon (little) can be still included in every chaos god list and make them hit at +1 and change their keyword, in order to benefit from buffs. the increasing in magic lores and such can make their shield more useful than at the start of the gh1. and of course they are awesome ^^ example: no warscroll change but they are 300 points for 3. would u pick them up or just pass?
  14. Hi guys, So with GHB2017 a little over 2 weeks to drop (Which means, we'll probably see leaks sometime next week), and the fact the warhammer-community has been showing some of the allies themselves, I thought it'd be good to have a good ol' bit of speculation about what we think certain ally factions will be. For the record, we currently know the following: Deathlords may take Deadwalkers, Flest-Eater Courts, Deathrattle, Deathmages, Soulblight, Nighthaunt as allies Clans Verminus may take Clans Eshin, Clans Moulder, Clans Pestilens, Clans Skyre, Masterclan as allies Moonfang Grots may take Aleguzzler Gargants, Greenskinz, Gitmob Grots, Spiderfang Grots, Troggoths as allies We also know that Beastclaw Raider, Gutbusters, Firebellies and Maneaters will all be able to ally together. It also looks like allies will be Faction based and not keyword based. We can project this based on the Skaven actually, as currently none of the Skaven have keywords such as CLANS VERMINUS, they just have the keyword VERMINUS. This is potentially a very important thing to distinguish. Because everything in the Compendium and stuff like Sayl, may share keywords with current factions, aren't a part of that faction (i.e Brettonians and Empire in GHB1 are both in a different section to the Free Peoples even if they share the FREE PEOPLES keyword). Whether or not Games Workshop will make some clarification on this issue in the Compendium update we'll have to wait and see. But back to the main topic at hand, let's theory craft some possible allies! Personally I feel that allies are definitely going to be more narrative in nature, and balance will be kept in other ways. So I don't think you're going to see Collegiate Arcane allying with all of Order for example. One thing I'm curious about is whether or not allies will be symmetrical. As an example I think Ironjawz shouldn't ally with Greenskinz, but think it's more narrative appropriate for Greenskinz to ally with Ironjawz. Not sure whether GW will pursue this direction though. So here are some of my top picks for the different grand alliances: Free Peoples can ally with Devoted of Sigmar, Dispossessed, Collegiate Arcane, Ironweld Arsenal, Stormcast Eternals as allies Darkling Covens may take Shadowblades, Order Serpentis, Scourge Privateers, Daughters of Khaine, Stormcast Eternals as allies (Even if I think the Stormcast are definitely an odd choice here, I don't think the Covens really willingly ally themselves with Stormcast, as much as a dire situation) Seraphon may take Stormcast Eternals as allies (Even if I think it should be no-one) Dispossessed may take Kharadron Overlords, Fyreslayers, Stormcast Eternals, Ironweld Arsenal as allies Sylvaneth may take Stormcast Eternals, Wanderers as allies (A more risky prediction though IMO, has them also ally with Eldritch Council, Lion Rangers, Order Draconis and Phoenix Temple). Wanderers may take Stormcast Eternals, Sylvaneth, Swifthawk Agents as allies Slaves to Darkness may take Blades of Khorne, Disciples of Tzeentch, Nurgle, Hosts of Slaanesh, Chaos Gargants, Chaos Daemons, Monsters of Chaos, Everchosen as allies Brayherd may take Warherd, Monsters of Chaos, Thunderscorn as allies Ironjawz may take Aleguzzler Gargants, Beastclaw Raiders, Gutbusters, Maneaters, Firebellies, Troggoths as allies Bonesplitterz may take Aleguzzler Gargants, Spiderfang Grots, Troggoths as allies Greenskinz may take Aleguzzler Gargants, Moonclan, Gitmob Grots, Spdierfang Grots, Troggoths as allies Flesh-eater Courts may take Deathlords, Deathmages, Deadwalkers, Nighthaunt as allies Soulblight may take Deathlords, Deathmages, Deadwalkers, Deathrattle, Nighthaunt as allies Deathrattle may take Deathlords, Deathmages, Soulblight as allies In general, I think we're going to see a lot of the more traditional factions 'joining back together' through allies. Which also puts an interesting strain on the armies that have currently got battletomes and those that don't Anything that doesn't have a battletome barely gets a mention in any content (like Path to Glory and Skirmish, while supporting factions without battletomes, didn't show a single model that isn't in a current battletome). This is more a defensive mechanism so GW can change their mind later on what they want to do with them, but also means there's been very little interaction between these factions. The obvious exception is Order, because essentially we've just been told all the older factions march out with the Stormcast to reclaim the lands. So all have a connection to Stormcast Eternals, but not necessarily other factions like Syvlaneth, Fyreslayers and Kharadron Overlords.
  15. Hey gang, Have been having a think about potential allies for my Stormcast from the wide range of other Order units available and would love to hear some of your thoughts on what you found complements the Stormcast and what doesn't. I'm pitching this as allies for a principally Stormcast list that could stretch to a 50:50. Have considered the classic Hurricanum, War Altar combos which look quite tasty but was also thinking some tunnelling Fyreslayers to accompany the obligatory teleporting Retributors to loose off shots before they go in. I also quite like the Fyreslayers models which doesn't hurt... I'm not set on any one play style so would love to hear what works with a gunline, a teleporting list, face smash, anything really!
