  1. Hi guys, As I totally love the fluff of neave Blacktalon I've bought her and now want to build an army around her. What is best way to go about this? I've a mix of warrior chamber and sacrosacnt chamber currently as well as some hunters. Happy to pick a few more models up if required. only the faithful
  2. Hi Folks, the new campaign system Firestorm for AoS is in the way and with it new allegiance abilities. The Anvilguard's Implacable March is the one I found most interesting. Anvilgard armies are made up of some of the hardier, more ruthless armies of Order, drawing from the Stormcast Eternals, Free Peoples, Devoted of Sigmar, Dispossessed, Darkling Covens, Scourge Privateers and Order Serpentis. Very exciting is the Battalion of the Scourge Privateers the "Realm Reavers". Here is a example army list: Allegiance: Anvilguard Leaders Black Ark Fleetmaster (40) Battleline 20 x Black Ark Corsairs (160) - Vicious Blades & Wicked Cutlasses - Scourge Privateers Battleline 20 x Black Ark Corsairs (160) - Vicious Blades & Repeater Handbows - Scourge Privateers Battleline 2 x Scourgerunner Chariots (200) - Scourge Privateers Battleline 10 x Drakespawn Knights (320) - Order Serpentis Battleline Behemoths Kharibdyss (180) Battalions Realm Reavers (180) Total: 1240/2000 Sadly we cant fit the Realm Reavers in a Allied Detachement, but some fast Drakespawn Knights made it in. The battalion rule says: A Black Ark Fleetmaster, 2 Black Ark Corsairs units, an unit of Scourgerunner Chariots and a Kharibdiss. Feared Taskmaster: In your hero phase a battalion unit within 8" of the Fleetmaster can do one of the following; move as if it were the movement phase (not run), shoot as if it were the shooting phase, charge as if it were the charge phase, or if there are any enemy units within 3" pile in and attack as if were the combat phase. Capture That Beast!: Re-roll wound rolls of 1 against Monsters. ...During our hero phase the enemy is forced to move 6" away from us (on a roll of 5+ that means 1/3 of the enemy units engaged are affected), but at the same time the Feared Taskmaster lets the Realm Reavers charge after the enemy. We cant do that immediately after the 6" move, but it can be used to encircle the enemy. Things get interesting with flying Units like dragons though, which can encricle the enemy easier. Whats your thoughts and armylists with the Anvilguard allegiance? Kaleun -> some teleporting Stormcast might be brutal in a Anvilguard armylist
  3. Continuing on from my last post the next unit from the Mortal Realms magazine has been completed: Castigators provide ranged support in a Sacrosanct army, very much counterparts to the Judicators in a strike chamber. That said the opinion of their performance on the battlefield according to the internet is lukewarm at best.... Still, the units was good fun to paint with alot of detail on the models allowing for a bit of variation from the scheme I used for the Sequitors. Being as these are the easy to build miniatures that I got through multiple copies of the magazine there's a fair amount of repetition on the poses. The latest issue though contains some multipart Castigators I think, so once I get round to assembling the 4 of them I should add some variety that way whilst also rounding out the unit to 12 in total. Realistically I can't see myself fielding more that 1 unit of 6 in my future lists, possibly as part of a hailstorm battery but it's nice to have the option if I ever do decide to go infantry heavy! Anyway, with these 8 completed this brings the tally up to: Mortal Realms - Stormcast Tally of Completion! 6 x Sequitors - COMPLETED 8 x Castigators - COMPLETED 1 x Gryphound - ASSEMBLED & UNDERCOATED 1 x Knight Incantor - ASSEMBLED & UNDERCOATED 1 x Celestar Ballista - ASSEMBLED & UNDERCOATED 1 x Knight Questor - ON SPRUE I need to revisit this tally business at some point, perhaps tracking completion against what I should have from the magazine as opposed to what I actually have. If only to make myself believe I'm keeping up with release schedule a bit! In anycase, after painting all that infantry (I know it's only 14 models but that's alot for me!) I figure I'll reward myself by painting a character next to lead my erstwhile band: This is my as yet unamed Knight-Incantor with some base colours on so far. Hopefully if i can keep up the progress here and there as I did with the Castigators I'll have her done by the end of June, that's the aim anyway.....
  4. When Mortal Realms launched I decided to subscribe, I have some Stormcast that I was working on of a custom design but sort of got pushed to the wayside (The Argent Lions), but since lockdown and working from home began, my painting has picked up, around the middle of March, a user by the name of @dave_the_chin on Twitter suggested a challenge with random Stormhosts, as id got a few issues of Mortal Realms by then I decided to join in, the Astral Templars were my given host, as of now writing this I've just completed all the Stormcast I've got from the magazine and have started on the Nighthaunt (maybe another log...), if youre interested in taking a look, have a look for the #Stormforged on Twitter and see who else has got involved. Thought putting them up here will keep my interest in too ! So as it stands here's what I've completed so far, all current Mortal Realms Stormcast, plus looks like Berek the Indomitable woke up in the wrong Stormhost ! As I've got all these completed, I'm thinking of going back to my old project and maybe repainting to match these guys.
  5. Hi everyone, I love the lore behind the Sacrosanct Chambers and have been happily playing it for a while now. I recently picked up my Warrior Chambers from my parents’ attic and found myself wondering how they do in the current environment. I know Liberators aren’t as good as Sequitors, but they are cheaper and seem like they are still good objective holders. Does anyone have any recent experience or thoughts on Warrior Chamber-centred armies? Thanks in advance!
  6. Eager to try the new Lumineth rules, we used a collection of Aelf models to give them a go. Battle report
  7. So I'm a slow painter by and large. I need to learn speedy tricks. I'm not going to post what I've painted to date (I'll include one pic I put in the display army thread elsewhere) but things I'm currently working on. The past two and a half weeks my evening hour or two has been spent on 2 concussors. These guys are quite the challenge to paint! In effect it's another LCoD from the starter set with a few more details. The first one is 99% complete and here he (or she) is! The 2nd concussor is maybe 70% complete and is next up. After that I've got 5 x paladins to build and paint, 5 x liberators to build and paint and then 4 x liberators to paint. After that, well I'm thinking of a style and faction change. Plus I've got Silver Tower to paint. We'll see! There's months of work ahead.

  9. Mortal Realms - Progress 4 - Castigators Progress continues to be made in clearing the back log of Stormcast from the mortal realms magazine. The next delivery lands any day now so it's all hands to the pump so to speak. I've pretty much put the base colours on the collection of Castigators I've got. Now the eagle eyed amongst you will have picked up on the fact that by issue 10 (the issue I'm currently up to on deliveries), I should only have 5 Castigators, whereas I have 8. Either way the extra ones dont help too much as the units are taken in multiples of 3 in matched play anyway. More so I remember going forward the base colours on these are as follows: Armour - Screamer Pink Robes - Wraithbone Tabbards - Caliban Green Greatbows - Boltgun metal, Retributor gold and Abbadon black Armour trim - Retributor Gold Its onto the washes next, which I've already started on the robes using Agrax Earthshade. These are also the colours used on the Sequitors I completed the other day and I'll make a full list once the Castigators are done. Again, mainly so I don't forget in the future in case I get distracted by some other project! There's another 2 Castigators to come in a later issue of Mortal Realms (Issue 15?), so if I can get two copies of that I'll have an even 12 Castigators, enough for two units of 6 which appeals to the collector in me even if they're not in a great place rules wise about now. Here's a photo of the progress on the 8 of them so far, with the backdrop provided by the Amazon box I'm currently using to store them and all the paints for them:
  10. The Stormcast battletome released in 2018 is woefully out of date. It does not have the same kind of interesting abilities or army rules found in battletomes released immediately afterwards. None of the Stormhosts really match the narrative of the army, all of the battalions are total trash, most of the traits/artefacts are rubbish, and many units are just downright useless. With that in mind I have started a project to rewrite some of the rules in the battletome. The goal is to update the rules to better match the narrative and make more interesting choices when making lists. In some cases that means some units/Stormhosts will become more powerful, but in those cases I believe it is justified since they are currently weak to the point of being unplayable. I will use this thread to post my progress, thought process, and hopefully gather feedback from other AOS players. Here is what I have so far: https://imgur.com/a/HAuEMWl I don't believe this will be 100% balanced, but let me know what you think either way! 11. Hi all This is going to be my painting log for my different armies in AOS. I have quite a few armies partly because I've been collecting along time and at the same time I like swishing between different armies to keep painting interesting.Though I do tend to favour order and chaos armies though I do like ogors and orruks.

  14. Hi everyone! I'm new here. I've painted for a huge part of my life, and one of my favourite things is following people's project logs and getting inspired by what others have done. Here's my attempt at a project log for a freeguild army. Hopefully I can keep adding to it, as well as inspiring others! First some fluff. The Realm of Ghur. Eastern Reaches. From the writings of Herr Jaeger. Towards the east of Ghur lies a region of deserts. They are greatly affected by the unstable magic of other realms, an effect I termed Realm-Bleed during my travels. The northerly desert is an icy, stone-strewn tundra where little thrives. The magic of Shyish bleeds into the northernmost edge of this tundra, ensuring that which does survive the sparse wilderness is truly hardy and fearsome to face in combat. The southern desert is a sandy region where waves of dunes ripple across the horizon. This desert is hot, and the further south one travels, the greater the effects of Aqshy Realm-Bleed. The two deserts are split by a strip where, against all odds, life thrives. This tropical oasis features a vast lake and rivers that feed farmlands before reaching the Eastern Sea. To the north and south of the bountiful lands are the Twin Jewels of the Deserts - Kislavia and Ajier. Kislavia is the city that lies to the north of the oasis. Its people are rugged and used to fighting the cold. They are experienced hunters and have tamed a number of the fearsome beasts that inhabit the northern tundra. While the majority of the population live in the city of Kislavia, there are a number of nomadic tribes that roam the wasteland for food, as well as dangers in the form of monsters and enemies. The tribes can be distinguished by the colours of the tassels their carry. Some tribes specialise in archery, others in trade, while a rare few focus on taming the wild creatures of the tundra. In times of war the tribes will band together to protect Kislavia. These occasions see a formidable force of spearmen, archers, handgunners and beast-riders marching in unison. These dangerous times even see marble-clad remnants of Sigmar's Stormcast and the reclusive Rieklings, or Ice Goblins, join the tribes of Korgoria to protect their lands. This army came from a desire to come back to Warhammer Fantasy. I wanted to create a freeguild army that decended from the empire. I searched my miniatures for suitable candidates and came across a number of miniatures I had bought to one day create a Kislevite Army. The miniatures are plastic Steppe Warriors from Fireforge. They are detailed and include a range of weapon options which covers the spearmen and archer needs for my army, The first miniatures I finished were five test archers, five test spearmen and a converted model to represent a general. What's that you say? Enough with the text? Ok then. No more rambling and onto the pictures! The Freeguild Guard fend off enemies with their shields. The Freeguild General preparing to draw his blade! The Freeguild Archers let off a volley! The Archer Champion surveys his men. 'Not bad,' he thinks. "They are overrunning us!" screams his second. Test scheme for marble-clad stormcast. Quite happy with it, and it was not terribly time-consuming! Win-win! Next up I'm finishing off the remaining archers and their pet hawk! Things to look forward to in the future include bear-ish riders and the elusive Rieklings! Hope you like them!
  15. I am not the most experienced player, but I like to compete from time to time in official tournaments. I play mainly destruction (gitz & jawz) and I struggle a lot against shooting heavy lists. In my group is a Skaven player who runs 12 Stormfiends, and another member rocks 30+ buffed up Irondrakes in a Tempest Eye dwarf list. And now, after what I've heard, was pre faq'd Tzeentch doing overly well in recent tourneys. Mostly with some cheesy strategy, in preventing the opponent from retreating from 10-20 Pinks and lighting them up with Flamers from behind. The most competitive SCE list includes the usage of Hurricanes by a lot. KO and Cities have a lot of shots as well. And the upcoming Seraphon and Pointy Elves release will produce also strong shooty options (by comparing the old stuff). Do you have any tips along the lines of good deployment, screening, going defensive/offensive. Right now, as my chosen faction, does not really have the option of shooting back effectively. My "gameplan" is to cast geminids and hope my stuff does not get shot off, before I reach my opponents screens. And then I get deleted, lol. I can only assume, but my guess is that shooting will be very prominent in the future. And maybe we can discuss here, how to deal with that meta shift. Or maybe in your oppinion shooting is fine and I just need to "git gud". Your thoughts on AOS is a melee driven game and should stay that way. Let's have some fun with it.
  16. Hi guys! Everybody has probably seen these minis a thousand times, but I still thought I'd share them with you. WIP shots of my fresh Stormcast form the Age of Sigmar starter set. This summer I finally caved in and bought the starter at my FLGS. The WIP pics are taken with my Iphone, but I hope to use a real camera once everything is finished. In the (not so) foreseeable future, I also plan to do the Khorne part. They will join my unit of Chaos Knights (pics included) I finished just before the old World met its end last year. Back then, I was totally distraught (well, as distraught as ons can get over little plastic soldiers from a fantasy world). But now, having felt the joy of painting the new minis, I can't wait to delve deeper in the Nine Realms! I must say, I LOVED painting the Stormcast. The quality of these new generation miniatures is just astounding. I'm doing them in one big batch of eighteen minis, so I could use my airbrush to maximum effect. The gold was a three part affair using the Vallejo Game Air range: - Base layer of brassy brass over chaos black primer - First highlight bright bronze - Finally Glorious Gold.I plan to add more contrast using GW Auric Armor and some more washes. Until next time! And let the meat grinder grind on.. The green, blue and bone on the Dracoth is almost done. Just some highlights left do. Green is Incubi Darkness base, then the other Dark Eldar named green (keep forgetting the name). I added some gloss varnish to the mouth. Batch painting! And my Chaos Knights, still waiting to be rebased:
  17. Let's discuss if there any way of making stradrake more powerfull with cities of sigmar rules. 🐲🐲🐲 (or make stradrake okay choice ).
  18. Spoilers for Soul Wars Prior to the Soul Wars novel, its was (fairly) argued that Celestant-Prime could not be Karl Franz, due to the fact Franz belonged to a different world and had simply perished. However with the advent of the Soul Wars - It is heavily implied that a Lord Arcanum, known as Balthas Arum, was in fact at one point Balthasar Gelt of the old world. Whether he was reincarnated as mortal in the realms before becoming a storm cast - or whether his soul was preserved from the end of the 'World that Was' is up for debate. However what it does show is that non-gods can somehow be preserved from the Old War in one form or another. Does this mean that Karl Franz' soul has been recycled as Celestant-Prime? Given he is once again Sigmar's favoured champion and once again wields Ghal Maraz? Or not? Or does it really matter? Thoughts?
  19. Chapter 3 – They are here Two days later, on a bright but chilly spring morning, Stadthouder Adriaanus Manstien, Sheriff Albertus and the consigniliari of Montalban stood waiting in the middle of the road, just inside the main town gate . The huge, forged iron gate was thrown wide open, its portcullis raised. The town's guard lined up in front of them outside the gate, on either side of the road leading into the town. Halberdiers on the left, Handgunners on the right. The company of Greatswords stood to attention on one side of the road inside the town a little way past the gate. The dismounted Demigryph Knights stood on the other side of the road facing the Greatswords. Stadthouder Manstien made the decision to leave the Demigryphs in the city's menagerie. They were nervous animals at the best of times and it would be one less thing to worry about. The Demigryph Knights, proud sons and fathers of nobel houses and wealthy merchant families, were not pleased about this decision. The Stadthouder knew he would have to grant a few of them a private audience later in his cabinet room. They were certain to protest their displeasure at having to stand like peasants and ordinary guards to meet the Knights Excelsior. The Stadthouder had already heard some of the grizzled Greatswords jeer at the dismounted knights opposite “Where's your coo-coo bird, son?” Every time Sheriff Albertus boomed “Silence in the ranks!” And so they waited. And waited some more. The Greatswords grew tired and began to lean on their Zweihander swords. The Halberdiers were put at rest and the hand gunners were allowed to put down their guns. Sheriff Albertus shouted up to the gate guard aloft the battlements. “Can you see anything?” “No my lord” was the reply. Some of the consigniliari began to complain. Another practical joke by the festival committee, they argued. Then finally came the cry from the battlements. “My lord, they are here!” A double column of 30 Knights Excelsior Liberators with warhammers and shields, marched briskly up the road towards the city gate. In locked step, they covered the distance in no time at all. Manstien could hear them singing a rousing marching hymn. “As I walk the valleys of Shyish, the lord Sigmar is my guiding light. My resolve, my strength, my righteous fury,...”. Their officer was at the head of the column , marching in silence. Manstien noticed they did not wear golden plate armour but white plate. Sheriff Albertus shouted orders to all around him. Sergeants and captains were redressing ranks and files. Drum rolls came from the far end of the files and the shouts of ‘present arms’ were heard getting ever closer. The Knights Excelsior slowed their pace and silently, they marched past the guard regiments. Under the gate they halted in front of Manstien, Albertus and the party of consigniliari. Stadhouder Manstien looked up to the Stormcast officer in front of him. Dressed in his ornate white battle helmet he stood at one and a half times the Stadthouder's height. The warrior was like a perfect white statue. Manstien's eye twitched nervously. “W..Welcome”, Manstien stuttered. “Welcome. The city and people of Montalban bid the Knights Excelsior welcome. May your stay with us be most agreeable.” The Stormcast officer in unblemished battle plate, decorated with leather scrolls fluttering in the draft, looked down at Manstien. Slowly he raised his arms and removed his helmet. The look on his face made Manstien wish he had kept his helmet on. Manstien looked into the face of the man like a rat hypnotized by a snake. The officer raised his gaze to peer over the heads of the welcoming party and across into the city. He took a long sniff of the air three times, once centre, once left and once right. Sheriff Albertus, who stood next to Manstien, kicked the shins of the Stadthouder. Manstien looked at him “Hmmm?” Then the Stadthouder remembered the young page behind him with the velvet pillow and a large golden key on it. He grabbed the pillow with both hands and held it up aloft to the Stormcast officer. “As Stadthouder of this city, I, Adriaanus Manstien, hereby offer the Knights Excelsior the keys of the city gate and the freedom of the city”. The Knight Excelsior finally answered, still looking over Manstien's head: “My name is Germanus Graghus and I am Lord Veritant of the Knights Excelsior.” He looked down at Manstien. “You can keep your key. We don’t use keys to enter a city.” Manstien was a bit startled. “It is just a symbol, my Lord Veritant.” The Knight Excelsior just nodded. “Thank you for welcoming us. Where do we stay?” Sheriff Albertus took the Knights Excelsior to the guards barracks. Luckily it was not far away. As the Stormcasts marched through the city streets, with the Greatswords behind them forming a guard of honour, the streets filled up with citizens eager to catch a glimpse of the fabled storm warriors of Sigmar. As they walked, shouts turned to murmurs and then to silence. Everybody was overawed by their presence and the aura of solemnity they projected all around them. Once the Stormcasts had entered the barracks, the doors were closed behind them and the Greatswords took up guard position outside the barrack's gate. Inside, Sheriff Albertus took the Lord Veritant through the building, explaining where he would find everything and when their provisions would arrive. The sheriff couldn’t help but noticing how the Lord Veritant seemed to sniff the air as he entered each new room. Finally the Lord Veritant turned around to him and said: “Thank you. This will be all”. “My Lord” answered Albertus. He took a slight bow, turned around and marched out of the barracks without even once looking back. Once Albertus closed the gate door behind him, Germanus Graghus, the Lord Veritant turned to his nearest Knight Excelsior companion. “This place stinks of chaos and every other foul thing to be found in the realms”.
