army list Ideas welcome for starter army list (2000 pts)
tommekez posted a topic in Stormcast Eternals
This is my first go at a competetive army list at 2000 pts. I've only played a few Stormcast games (1000 pts with Dominion models) so I'm not sure how solid this can be. The biggest issue I see right now is that I'd want to let the annihilators fall down, but possibly also the longstrikes which is obviously not possible. I haven't decided on artefacts and spells either so I could use some ideas for those as well. Do I have to put the guys that fall down from the sky in the batallion as well to get the one drop deployment rule? I couldn't fit them all in. Hey guys, I'm completely new to the game and want to get started soon. I want to start off with a 1000 point army for Cities of Sigmar and thought of three lists so far: The first one would be dwarfs: 1 Warden King (100) 1 Runemaster (90) 1 Cogsmith (60) 30 Ironbreakers (240) 30 Longbeards (270) 2 Helblaster Volley Guns (240) for exactly 1k. The second one has even more artillery focus: 1 Warden Kind (100) 1 Runemaster (90) 2 Cogsmiths (120) 30 Longbeards (300) 3 Helstorm Rocket Batteries (390) for exactly 1k. The third one would be mixed and more mobile: 1 Freeguild General (100) 1 Runemaster (90) 30 Handgunners (300) 20 Longbeards (200) 15 Pistoliers (300) for overall 990. Could you please give me some feedback if those armies would be any good and which one you'd expect to perform better? I intend to upgrade whichever i pick to a Greywater Battalion with 4 artillery pieces, once i assemble a 2k army. Any input would be highly appreciated.

Hi all, I am currently in the works of heavy conversions for an ice troll theme I am going for. In this case, the trolls are bigger and... well uglier than normal. It is my hopes I can still use them on the tabletop. Currently the only things I can see them being are Great Unclean Ones (or something big and Nurgley) and something Troggoth. Size wise, the Troggoth hag. Making four of these models, would it be possible to make them 3 or 4 Troggoth hags into a playable (and actually decent) list? Here is the one I have so far: 2000 Points - Matched Play Allegiance: Gloomspite Gitz Realms of Battle: Ghur Leaders: - Fungoid Cave-Shaman /w Low Cunning, Hand of Gork - Troggoth Hag /w Gryph-feather Charm - Troggoth Hag x3 Battleline: - Squig Heard (6) x3 Endless Spells: - Mork’s Mighty Mushroom, Scrapskuttle’s Arachnacauldron, Emerald Lifeswarm 2000 points I am no AoS pro, i just like the lore and making/ painting however I do like a decent list. Does this list stand a chance at all? If not, is there any chance to make it decent with a minimum of 3 Troggoth Hags? Thanks for the read and any help!

Hi All, I've decided to get back into the hobby. I've been out of the hobby since the dropping of WHFB 8th edition so I'm completely new to AoS. In 8th edition I've played both High Elves and Ogre Kingdoms, but I want to start a whole new army. Soulblight! The fast playing style, low model count, general tactics and the models make this the go to army for me. Also budget wise this should be a good army for me as I already know what I like to pick up from the shop. I tried making a list with those models and I'm curious what you guys think of it. The models I'd like to use are: 2x AoS SC Flesheater Courts which contains: 2x VLoZD 2x Flying Horror (Ghoul Kings conversion using the little Vargheist wings) 6x Vargheists 1 box of Tyranid Gargoyle Brood to convert the Ghouls from the SC kit to 10 Fell Bats Probably another 2 boxes of Vargheists The list I came up with using these models would be the following: Death - Soulblight - Swift Death = 2000 Points VLoZD - 440 -General -Lance, shield, chalice VLoZD - 440 -Lance, shield, chalice VL - 140 -Flying Horror VL - 140 -Flying Horror 4x3 Vargheists - 150x4=600 3x3 Fell Bats - 80x3=240 This is exactly 2000 points. I haven't made up my mind about artefact or lore of the vampires. I'd like to know what you think about it so far. If you have any tips or recommendations. If you have any tactical tips for this list? I'll be playing in an AoS group 2 or 3 times a month and there will probably be a tournament two times a year. The list doesn't have to be the most competitive list possible. It has to be a fun and good looking list which is competitive enough that I won't be losing every game.

New to the forum, so apologies this should be posted elsewhere. Am new to the game and have thrown together an army list, mostly based on the models I have picked up on EBay and the getting good value out of the Anvilgard Start Collecting box. Am mostly interested in narrative, and am happy with it in that context. Just want to know how badly I would get stomped in matched play. Am opened to suggestions for how the list could be tweaked. Found that list somewhere and wanted to give it a try. The results: a very fun list to play. A squig army is not only based on alpha strike, it can be very hard to counter, and was still working at turn 3. Mangler squig is a real beast agains hordes, but the real MVP are Boingrot bounderz. Do you want something dead? Send them that way and watch it disappear. Also, regular squigs act as a dissuasive unit. They seem pretty weak, but once they start doing mortal wounds to an enemy unit, they are treated with more caution. Give it a try! Allegiance: Gloomspite Gitz Mortal Realm: Ulgu Leaders Loonboss on Mangler Squigs (300) - General - Trait: Fight Another Day - Artefact: Doppelganger Cloak Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig (110) - Moonclan Stabba - Artefact: The Clammy cowl Fungoid Cave-Shaman (90) - Lore of the Moonclans: Squig Lure Madcap Shaman (80) - Lore of the Moonclans: Itchy Nuisance Battleline 18 x Squig Herd (210) 15 x Squig Hoppers (270) 10 x Squig Hoppers (180) Units 15 x Boingrot Bounderz (300) Behemoths Mangler Squigs (240) Battalions Squig Rider Stampede (140) Endless Spells / Terrain Chronomantic Cogs (60) Total: 1980 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 1 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 154 I'm not sold about the moonclan stabba of the Loonboss on giant cave squig, 2" are great if you stay at the rear of a unit, but taht 4+ to hit is a bit troublesome (specially if most special rules improve to wound only). Also, I may change something to add a unit of fanatics, to give the army some surprise factor. Thoughts?

Hey all, so 'lucky' me I haven't really expanded my SCE outside of Soul Wars, but these point changes (and finding out castigators are bad) pretty much ruin my idea of a Sacrosanct only army. These are the models I have so far, with the 2nd Incantor from the Getting Started mag, and buying extra models to fill out the uneven Soul Wars ones. Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals - Stormhost: Hallowed Knights (paint scheme at least) Mortal Realm: Ghyran Lord-Arcanum on Gryph-Charger (240) --now 220? - General Lord-Castellant (100) --now 120 Lord-Relictor (100) - Prayer: Translocation Knight-Incantor (140) Knight-Incantor (140) 5 x Sequitors (120) --now 130 - Stormsmite Mauls and Soulshields - 3x Stormsmite Greatmaces 5 x Sequitors (120) --now 130 - Stormsmite Mauls and Soulshields - 2x Stormsmite Greatmaces 5 x Evocators (200) --now 220 6 x Castigators (160) 3 x Castigators (80) Celestar Ballista (100) --now 110 1500/2000 --> 1550/2000 it seems What should I add, or replace, in this list? Which spells for LA and Incantor? I know I need more shooting and a 3rd battleline. I wanted to get the boxed sets for Sequitors for that reason but alas.. I also wanted the box of Evos, but I know I need more mobility/cav and with their increase I shouldn't buy them simply because I like those models when I can spend that money more wisely. Can the Getting Started Incantor be proxied for a LA on foot easily? I also have Leena Stormspire who could be a Knight Questor, minus helm, if KQ is viable. Lastly, which Endless Spells can be used in multiple SCE lists, and can I buy them separately? Seems like Shackles and Cogs are the ones I see in most lists, but they're not SCE specific. I'm not entirely inclined towards 2k, especially with the new 1k rules coming, but I figure I should still plan for 2k! And that would give me a better idea of 1k lists anyway. Thanks in advance, I know this is a multi-part question.

Army List (X3)
S133arcanite posted a blog entry in An Ascension into Chaos - The Children of Xenthos
So, as you probably know from last post, I'm going to The Wonders of the Algoraxi, a tournament at Warhammer World, in March. Although it is mainly a narrative event, you need three different army lists: 750, 1000 and 2000. Here goes. 750 Leaders Tzaangor Shaman - General, Arch-Sorcerer, Windthief Charm, Glimpse the Future, Bolt of Tzeentch, Shield of Fate, Treason of Tzeentch Units Tzaangors - 10, Pair of Savage Blade: 10 Tzaangors - 10, Pair of Savage Blade: 10 Tzaangor Skyfires - 3 1000 Leaders Tzaangor Shaman - General, Arch-Sorcerer, Glimpse the Future, Bolt of Tzeentch, Shield of Fate, Treason of Tzeentch Curseling, Eye of Tzeentch - Paradoxical Shield, Arcane Suggestion Units Tzaangors - 10, Pair of Savage Blade: 10 Kairic Acolytes - 10, Cursed Blade and Arcanite Shield: 10 Tzaangor Skyfires - 3 Tzaangor Skyfires - 3 2000 Leaders Tzaangor Shaman - General, Arch-Sorcerer, Arcane Suggestion, Bolt of Tzeentch, Shield of Fate, Fold Reality Curseling, Eye of Tzeentch - Paradoxical Shield, Arcane Suggestion Curseling, Eye of Tzeentch - Spiteful Shield, Shield of Fate Gaunt Summoner - Infusion Arcanum, Unchecked Mutation Units Tzaangors - 30, Pair of Savag Blades: 30 Kairic Acolytes - 10, Cursed Blade and Arcanite Shield: 10 Kairic Acolytes - 10, Cursed Blade and Arcanite Shield: 10 Tzaangor Skyfires - 3 Tzaangor Skyfires - 3 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch - Treason of Tzeentch Thanks for looking! -
hobby blog The Wolf and the Rat, new monsters and now at 2000pts!
Haanz posted a blog entry in Michael's Age of Sigmar Hobby Blog
Today, I'm very pleased to share that my army "The Wolf and the Rat" just hit their 2000pts of painted minis target and I can more or less draw a line under this army as "completed." This will undoubtedly prove to be a fabrication as the urge to add new guys will eventually hit me, though the limiting factor will now be how much space is left in my storage foam. More Bloodletters and Blood Warriors would be nice to mix things up, and theres no shortage of awesome models to paint that would fit this theme - Rat Ogors, Slaughterbrutes, Flesh Hounds, and hey, I hear Khorgoraths are getting a bit of a buff in the new Battletome! But enough about my screaming wallet, this is supposed to be about me finishing this damn army. Skritt's Hunting Pack (Wolf Rats) Awesome miniatures, and a lot bigger than I expected. In fact, I actually expected the Skin Wolves to turn out a little bigger and these guys to be a little smaller. I gave them the same two tone grass and animal bones/skulls/warpstone crystals as the Wolves, which I really like on these bigger base minis. For the paint job, I wanted them to have a cohesiveness with the Skin Wolves, but with a few distinctions. In the ended, I chose to paint them with the same sort of grey/brown fur as I gave the Skin Wolves, but with a ratty pink flesh instead of the blue/grey. One key distinction is their armour/adornments are red, like the Wrathmongers, as opposed to the bone white of the 'enlightened' - like the Wrathmongers, they're feral and vicious and useful in a fight, but not considered 'people' in the way the Skin Wolves (perhaps foolishly) are. Skaarakh, The Fang of Khorne I did a thing with this guy, which you might notice if you saw him in his primed-only state in the last photo, and that's that I hacked off his axe hand, twisted it and re-pinned it back in place. The reason for this was my 'dynamic pose' I was going for looked really weird, and the more I kind of pictured myself with my arm outstretched like that, the more it seemed unnatural. I had originally wanted him kind of pointing the axe in a challenge, but reposing white metal is difficult, and in the end I realised his arm would make a lot more sense if he was at the end of a big arcing swing of the axe, so that's sorta what I went for. If you didn't see my previous post, then what you're looking at is an old, white metal Bloodthirster. I have no real stylistic reason for using him, other than I had one lying around at my parents house from back when I played World Eaters in 3rd Ed 40K when I was 13, and using him over buying a new plastic kit saved me like £50. He was obviously pretty dated looking though, so I made a few adjustments. The key ones were giving him a new head from the plastic Bloodthirster kits (which just look a zillion times better), reposing his arms to look a little more dynamic and a little less like the old style where everyone stood in that same unnatural pose, and finally I decided to go nuts and give him a giant green stuff fur cloak, because the new style Bloodthirsters are a little more burly than the skinny, boney style of old and I wanted a thematic way of bulking him up a little. In order to make the cloak not look weird over the wings, I added some beaten brass spiked collar pauldron things, that I personally think turned out pretty good for my first major green stuff endevour. I'm particularly pleased with the bulging vein on his axe arm bicep that I used to cover up some of the fingerprinting and roughness. Oh, and I shaved off the little stars where his nipples would be, because I have no idea what they were thinking with that design choice. As with my Bloodletters, I went for a slimy albino look on this one as well, and I'm again pretty happy with how he turned out; I'm getting a little more confident in painting whites, which is something that I absolutely failed at 6 months ago when I was starting out again after my decade long hiatus. There's no point in painting bone armour on a white guy, but I wasn't really that keen on red armour either, so I decided to make his breastplate black, and just get a little dark red on the cloak lining and the whip (and the blood effects, obviously!), and I'm really happy with the overall result. Basewise, he's on the same Secret Weapon Miniatures sculpted resin lava base as my Lord of Khorne of Juggernaut, which I think looks great. I also added the one remaining huge rock and animal skull piece to it to tie him in a little with the Skin Wolves and Wolf Rats. I was originally planning on sticking a Fenrisian Wolf on the base with him, like I'm planning to do to my aforementioned Lord of Khorne, but I'm not 100% he really needs it anymore, what with everything else going on. I'm still working on the lore, but I'm starting to think that 'he' might actually be a 'she' considering the weirdly low cut and chesty armour and more slender build compared to the modern Bloodthirster design. Hopefully I'll have that figured out at some point, and I'll include it with a big full-army photo in a future blog post. Conclusion and Army List And that wraps up my 2000pts of The Wolf and the Rat! As I said before, I have no immediate plans to expand - it'd be nice to take a break once I finish my two 2000pts armies and work on something smaller scale like Blood Bowl or Malifaux for a while - but ****** if I'm not tempted to fill up the (limited) free space in my BattleFoam for these guys by rounding out my two units of Blood Warriors and Bloodletters. Beyond that pipe dream, I have plans to add some furry tabards and pelts to the Blood Warriors and Bloodletters that I already have, but I'll just edit them in my original post. Here's my final, 2000pts list that I'm planning on running these guys as. Note that this list isn't built to win any tournaments. I tend to build armies around what models I want, how I can tie a theme/narrative to them, and work from there. I don't know how many games I'll actually win with this list, but it looks cool and it's got a lot of fun things to play and a lot of weird mismashed synergies and that's what's important to me. If I ever consider what I include from a rules perspective, it's mostly to balance against my other armies so that I can fun games using only my models, should I want to demonstrate to friends, etc. Thanks for reading! The Wolf and the Rat - 1960/2000pts (pre new Battletome) Heroes: The White Wolf (Mighty Lord of Khorne OR Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut) - 140pts Skritt Ashenfang (Skaven Warlord on Brood Horror) - 200pts Skaarakh, Fang of Khorne (Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury) - 300pts Tanaris Redmaw (Bloodsecrator) - 120pts Battleline: The Red Hunt (Blood Warriors x 5) - 100pts The Enlightened (Blood Warriors x 5) - 100pts The Bloodhounds (Bloodreavers x 20) - 120pts The Bloodied Teeth of Skaarakh (Bloodletters x 20) - 200pts The Rabid (Wrathmongers x 5) - 180pts The Blessed (Skin Wolves x 3) - 120pts The Ashenfangs (Stormvermin x 20) - 280pts Skritt's Hunting Pack (Wolf Rats x 5) - 100pts- 3 comments

Death Army List Strategy for NICON 2016
Tronhammer NZ posted a blog entry in Death in The Mortal Realms
With our North Island Gaming Convention just around the corner, it is time to make the hard choices about what to bring in order to sow death and reap souls in the name of the Great Necromancer. Here are my thoughts about what I'm bringing, what my overall strategies will be, and how I arrived to those decisions. NICON Army Composition At NICON we will be using the SCGT players pack, with the exceptions that we are allowing all legacy warscrolls, and that the pool choice restrictions are 120 for the army and 80 for the deployed warband. Starting Point My collection started with the Deathrattle faction. I love the models, and the Dark Lord of Despair has been leading my forces through our local escalation campaign. I had the following models: Wight King (Black Axe) - 3 Wight King (Infernal Standard) - 3 Necromancer - 4 20 Skeletons (Spears) - 8 20 Skeletons (Swords) - 8 10 Grave Guard (Great Blades) - 8 5 Black Knights - 5 I really love the synergies with these warscrolls. the Lord of Bones command ability (+1 to all attacks) and Vanhel's Danse Macabre (an extra pile-in) has proven very effective on my Grave Guard, and on occasion, Black Knights. My original plan was to add the Legion of Death warscroll battalion, and so started painting up another 20 Skeletons and 5 Grave Guard. I have the Nagash model, but felt he would be a bit too over-the-top for this tournament. I didn't want to put off anyone new to the game or the hobby, but I also didn't want to turn up and lose 6 games. So I selected his lieutenant, Arkhan the Black - one of my all time favourite characters, to lead in his stead. I also added other models from my collection in order to help fill out the points: Arkhan the Black - 18 2 Morghast Archai - 10 3 Spirit Hosts - 5 I'd love to get more Spirit Hosts. Those things are great value. So the plan at this point was to deploy the Legion of Death battalion, and then summon the Archai, Spirit hosts and some more Grave Guard. But then something happened. The Monstrous Arcanum warscrolls came out. Enter, the Mourngul. The Lure of Power The SCGT boys brought out a pool cost for this bad boy a week before the pool choice lock for NICON, so I was able to include the Mounrgul in my list. This would give my army some much needed punch, and also help with taking and holding objectives. But how best to fit him in? He is 18 points (exactly what my group predicted it would be), but by including him in my summoning pool I could halve this. The downside is that the Mourngul requires a casting roll of 10 to cast. Arkhan gets +2 to cast by default. When summoning, he gets an extra +1. With the Morghast Archai nearby, he gets another +1. I happened to have a Mortis Engine still on the sprue from one of the starter boxes. With it, I can give Arkhan a sweet + 5 to cast (before any terrain bonuses), making the Mourngul summon much more reliable. So I put the Mortis Engine together in an evening, and with 3 weeks left to go, set about painting it and the Mourngul. These new acquisitions meant I have to forgo the extra skeletons and Grave Guard, and not take the Legion of Death battalion. But I feel much better having including them. Mourngul - 18 Mortis Engine - 7 This left me with 2 pool choices left over. Luckily there is a 2 point option in the Death Grand alliance - the Cairn Wraith. Time to pick one up. The plan is to have it hang back behind the Grave Guard or Skeletons, smacking up big units with it's 2" range. The Summoning Pool I plan to keep the Morghast Archai and the Mourngul in the summoning pool. In scenarios and against opponents where I have to be attacking, I will use Arkhan as the general, his First of the Mortarchs command ability extending the range of his spells. I would summing both the Archai and Mourngul in the same turn if possible. This will place my hardest-hitting hammer where I need them in order to assault objectives. Arkhan can then sit back and try to get as many Curse of Years spells off as he can, adding Vanhel's or Mystic Shield along with the Necromancer as needed. The Leadership Conundrum Using First of the Mortarchs means passing up Lord of Bones, which has until now been a very successful ability. I guess it will come down to the situation need for it. I know for example there will be a Khorne Daemon army and a Khorne Bloodbound army at NICON, and they will be moving towards me as fast as possible, meaning Arkhan's extra range will be less important. In this case Lord of Bones could be the better option. Will have to take that on a game-by-game basis. Final List So that's the plan. I will be taking the Black Knights with me, but in all likelihood I will not be deploying them unless the extra mobility is absolutely crucial in the right circumstances - perhaps to help achieve the Breakthrough Hidden Agenda. Deployed Warband Arkhan the Black - 18 Wight King (Black Axe) - 3 Wight King (Infernal Standard) - 3 Necromancer - 4 Cairn Wraith - 2 Mortis Engine - 7 3 Spirit Hosts - 5 20 Skeletons (Spears) - 8 20 Skeletons (Swords) - 8 10 Grave Guard (Great Blades) - 8 TOTAL = 66 Summoning Pool 2 Morghast Archai - 10 Moungul - 18 TOTAL = 28- 7 comments
