  1. The book says it wasn't easy, but never shows how not easy it was. And funny enough, what you said would remedy that: give us some Lumineth characters to care about. We know Teclis isn't gonna die, so give us some who *can.* Take Ymetrica Warden#56,893 and instead, make her Illyria Starshine. Tell us about her hopes and dreams, the bonds she has with her comrades and her husband and three kids back home. Tell us about others in the army. Make these statistics into characters, show us the hardships they face fighting the legions of Death itself, and then maybe I'd give a ******, As it is, BR:T reminds me of a Michael Bay flick. Yes, there's flying rock castles and sky high animated bone structures and the embodiment of death fighting a special elf boy... but without anything to ground it and give a sense of scale to the spectacle, I just do not care. It's all flash and no substance. Morathi worked because I got invested in her.Yes, she was doing terrible things, but they gave us a solid, relatable grounding. Maybe its just me, but I can't relate to Teclis. I'll admit, part of my view on him is tainted thanks to the fact he considered wiping out the Cythai, his own creation, under some nebulous "darkness" in their beings. Sorry, but in my view once you consider mass murder you pretty much loose all moral high ground. Teclis comes off to me as less righteous, and more a self-righteous hypocrite.
  2. God the whole "well Nagash won in other stories!" excuse is grating to me. Yes, Nagash won in other stories... but you don't need to entirely sacrifice this narrative at the altar of past stories. Hell, the Holy Grail of nerd storytelling, the MCU,is entirely built on having full, self-contained stories that fit into a large narrative. Just because BR:T was a part of the overall tale doesn't excuse the boring narrative. Nagash's past successes mean bupkis in this story. If anything, it drags the rest of it down. If the Lumineth could so easily beat Nagash, why couldn't the Stormcast? Why did the golden soldiers of Sigmar himself struggle when all you needed was some elf boys? "But they lost a lot of soldiers!" Yeah... but guess what? they don't matter. they're not characters. They're window dressing. I have as much investment in Random Warden from Ymetrica #56,893 as I do the chunk of crab meat in the second piece of the California roll I had for dinner. These weren't characters, they were statistics. Arkhan was a character. He had a personality, history and relationships. Nagash is a character. Random Warden from Ymetrica #56,893 is not a character. I'm not a Nagash or Death fanboy. My main armies are Orruks, Gloomspite, and Deepkin. I had zero problem whatsoever with Nagash taking the dive. Hell, he's a villain, that's what he's supposed to do. Teclis should have gone over, and Nagash should be taken off the table. Get that? I'm not saying this as some huge Nagash uber-fan who bought of his models just to have each possible loadout. I'm saying this as a fan of good writing and storytelling. I'm not griping that Death lost. I'm griping that they made what should have been an epic conclusion to Nagash's arc and made it the equivalent of Frodo getting the ring, dropkicking the Riingwraiths, gathering his posse, drop kicking the Witch King, and yeeting the Ring into Mt.Doom and getting home in time for supper. GW should have done better, and GW has done better.
  3. It's repeated because it works. I was bored by the end of BR:T because, again, there was no indication that the Lumineth loosing was even a remote possibility. There was no tension at all to the Eltharion v. Arkhan or Teclis v. Nagash fights because Nagash had already lost. in fact, I felt kinda bad for Nagash since he was so thoroughly smacked down, making Death, the villain of the arc, the Underdog. And now? Well, you can't really have Death as a credible threat anymore now that we know one faction can put away the entire Alliance. Nagash acting up? Don't worry, Teclis will squash him harder than Brock Lesnar squashing Spike Dudley.
  4. This was.... extremely poorly written. Like, 40k in the past decade bad. Bad fanfic level bad. I get wanting to have the Lumineth look strong. And I'm good with Nagash taking the fall in the end. But reading this, the Lumineth racking up win after win drained the ending of all tension. By the time of the Teclis v. Nagash fight, I had completely checked out because the writers had done nothing to make me think that Nagash could win, and even if he somehow did, it didn't feel like there was any danger. Everyone one of his plans had failed. His minions had been routed, his rituals had failed, he had nothing. And you never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, lessen the stakes before the climax! That's just... writing 101! And it would have been such a simple fix too. Make it clear that nothing will happen until all 3 realmgates are corrupted. Have Neferata and Mannfred succeed. They drive off the defenders, do what they need to do, and the realmgates are now flowing with Death Magic. If the final realmgate falls, the realms get sucked into the Shyish Nadir. Now there's urgency to the Arkhan/Eltharion battle. Eltharion blows up Arkhan, you think there's cause for celebration... Then Nagash arrives. With Neferata and Mannfred, and a legion of the dead. Everything seems lost. See? Right there, now things are tense! The stakes are high, if Nagash, who's a much more powerful threat than Arkhan succeeds the realms are doomed. And he has backup! And the Lumineth are depleated and exhausted from the campaign, they're in the darkest hour and need to pull through for the good of all the realms. Isn't that so much better than Pointy Boiz win lolz?
  5. Been tweaking my list. The idea is a fluffy, but still decent mortal list. Cult Of Personality Allegiance: Tzeentch - Change Coven: Pyrofane Cult LEADERS Curseling, Eye of Tzeentch (160) - Lore of Fate : Infusion Arcanum Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch (240) - Lore of Fate : Glimpse the Future The Changeling (140) - Lore of Change : Treason of Tzeentch Tzaangor Shaman (150) - Lore of Fate : Arcane Suggestion Lord of Change (380) - General - Command Trait : Shrouded in Unnatural Flame - Artefact : Chainfire Amulet - Lore of Change : Fold Reality UNITS 10 x Kairic Acolytes (100) 20 x Tzaangors (360) 10 x Kairic Acolytes (100) 6 x Tzaangor Enlightened on Disc (360) The plan is to have the the Gaunt Summoner pop in some Pink Horrors. The Acolytes hang back on backfield objects to fling fireballs and cast their spell. The Tzaangors and Enlightened push forward, boltered by the heroes, all the while casting and summoning as much as possible.
  6. from the errata: ‘3 in every 10 models in this unit can replace their weapon option with a Cursed Glaive and Arcanite Shield.’ So yes. as for who to give them to... I typically give one to the adept to get an extra attack with the glaive, then two to other models, mostly for aesthetic. if you want pure competitive, then yes, as the Vulcharc and scroll bearer are the last models you want to remove
  7. I wouldn't think it'd be ported over. 40K 's CP generation was needlessly obtuse, to the point it turned me off entirely from 8th edition (among other reasons). AoS's system is still nice and simple.
  8. I've been working on an Arcanite list... Cult of the Transient form, as I like the idea of Acolytes poofing into Tzaangors. I'm not looking for super competitive, but I don't want to get stomped either. Allegiance: Tzeentch - Change Coven: Cult of the Transient Form LEADERS Lord of Change (380) - General - Command Trait : Defiant in their Pursuit Tzaangor Shaman (150) Magister on Disc of Tzeentch (140) UNITS 20 x Kairic Acolytes (200) 20 x Kairic Acolytes (200) 30 x Tzaangors (540) 6 x Tzaangor Enlightened on Disc (360) TOTAL: 1970/2000 EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 0 WOUNDS: 150 LEADERS: 3/6 BATTLELINES: 3 (3+) BEHEMOTHS: 1/4 ARTILLERY: 0/4 ARTEFACTS: 0/1 ALLIES: 0/400
