  1. I finished a selection of heroes and photographed them together. Thankfully they sort of work together! You can see the green theme for the aelves on the right and the blue theme for the humans and dwarves on the left. I used an Isharann Tidecaster as another battlemage, snipping off the watery bits to make it work on land: Finally, I got through 10 Ironbreakers. It's not technically "the first unit" completed as they'll be played as a unit of 30, but it sort of counts? Not sure what I'll work on next- the plan is to intersperse 10 ironbreakers between other units as I'll go mad painting another 20 in one go!
  2. I have no idea yet! I was thinking I would theme it as the city of Excelsis to copy the events of City of Secrets, so I'll probably look to find some really nice resin bases with medieval style streets on them- something like these secret weapons ones - http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=79_30_106. I want all the tzaangor feathers to be super bright though. And maybe try my hand at some freehand tatoos on the Acolytes. Agree about elite armies- this'll be the first army I don't speed paint. Other armies I've spent time on heros, but not on big units, so it should be interesting!
  3. They're my favourite tzeentch models by far! The only reason I chose them really. Going to try to push the quality on these- nice to not have to paint 100 models for a 2k force, as I've done for FEC, Nurgle and Cities!
  4. That's a lot of models! At least you'll have a good variety Also- which stormhost? I have a moderate Anvils force!
  5. So I'll be building around 1,000pts of Tzeentch. I have the Aether War stuff and these three boxes- So in total I have- Tzaangor Shaman Magister on Disc of Tzeentch 3x Skyfires 3x Enlightened 10x Kairic Acolytes 10x Kairic Acolytes 10x Tzaangors. If any of you are in London or can make it down to London, it would be cool to have a game at Bad Moon Cafe with our new armies!
  6. So @Kramer, @flamingwalnut, @Kamose, @Maxi99 want to join this Tale of X Warlords? I suggest 1st June start and we have our own thread? Anyone else is welcome to join- I guess it's a way for us to spam our progress pics for feedback without cloggin up this main thread. I'd still plan to post to this thread with my other 43 painting projects. We can have some general goals to help motivation. Anyone else interested or have feedback?
  7. That's a pretty good way to do it! I have 1,000pts of unassembled mortal tzeentch that would be perfect for this. Happy to join a thread with the few of us joining the challenge
  8. This sounds really fun! How are you thinking it would work?
  9. Could just bring the rulebook. It's literally 5 minutes to learn the rules. GW do need competition. The fact people get so emotionally distraught over profit-driven choices of the largest player in the Wargaming space really shows there needs to be some competition. Up to all of use to try other systems. I'm playing oathmark with my cities army- zero investment other than a rulebook needed. It could not be any easier to just try something else. Anyway, back to Old World! Warmaster 2.0 would be great and there's not really another system like it (i mean there's hundreds of 6/8mm scale systems, but they're usually historical or very old school rules). However, having 28mm scale would mean a load of cool miniatures for my Cities army! Plus not sure how much I'd enjoy painting 6mm scale stuff.
  10. Haha. The FB group is a stark reminder of what the hobby used to be like. It really is great that the AoS community is so nice and that GW are really pushing interesting, if controversial, designs for their new forces. I think a lot of people liked fantasy because it was very old school, very traditional, rank and file. What i really don't understand is that every single other miniature company currently produces generic elves, dwarves and humans that are cheaper than GW's. There are a load of systems that are much better than fantasy (i'm just getting into Oathmark now). Just go buy some generic fantasy stuff and play with a different system.
  11. My SC liberators and sequitors are crying, but my 120pts for 10 plaguebearers are outraged.
  12. Thanks! It does highlight the progress in plastics- the face is fully detailed and a joy to paint and the rest of the model is beautifully detailed. Plus the pose is such that a zenithal basecoat highlight works really well!
  13. All the heroes (and one ironbreaker) finished for my Cities army so far.
  14. Oh wow never heard of these guys. Just ordered some trays for my blightkings!
  15. I'm not that happy with the stags themselves- I've just done the GW base/highlight type scheme and it looks a little simple, but in any case the basing is done! This is a good illustration of what the elf bases will look like- lots of different tufts and some of ******'s excellent Wild Meadow static grass sheets.
  16. This is so cool that you're building the fort as well! So cool to see pics of the finished army in the finished fort!
  17. These guys are one of my favourite podcasts- It's a talk through the fluff in the book, worth a listen ! GarageHammer-Cities of Sigmar Lore
  18. Haha not at all. Just for the models, not the game. I recommend the Bandai kits as a break from GW by the way. Very detailed and nicely made!
  19. About 1000pts of mortal/beast tzeentch along with half of Aether war. Blightkings for a Blessed Sons nurgle list I want to try. Few bits left for my cities army, including a box of handgunners and a general on griffon. Not seen- Archaon, Verminlord, 80 Plague Monks, Zombie Dragon and 9 Horrors. I sold a lot of stuff recently so this is quite cut down from it's worse! Really hoping to at least get it all assembled before the end of the lockdown.
  20. Yeah i think it's the greatest strength of the book is we can have a Tzeentch rivalling magic army in hallowheart, a destruction rivalling smash and bash army in hammerhal and a skryre rivalling shooting army in Greywater. Getting a whole mix of units makes it a pretty fun process of list building and making interesting mixes of all 3 elements. I mean it's not top tier for any of those, though i think Hallowheart can definitely win tournaments, but it's so much fun mixing all these heroes and units!
  21. I realised i hadn't gotten my full army out, so I did! This is all the Cities models I have, but is well over 2,000pts. I'll be running the army as different cities and swap in models depending on what works in each city, but to start, it'll be a Hallowheart (or Magic type city using Hallowheart rules). All armies will have Huron, the Nomad King, as it's general. Here's the full list- Huron, Nomad Prince General, comes with 10 Pheonix Guard as his retinue. All elves will be forest themed with green cloaks. His adjutant will be one of the battlemages, or the Runelord or the Warden King, depending on the build. Battlemages and Sorceress The battlemages are composed of the regular battlemage models, an Isharan Tidecaster with some bits snipped off and the staff replaced with a sisters of the thorn one and a Gloriel Summerbloom model, again with the ball replaced with a sisters of the thorn staff. Warden King and Runelord These guys will be used to buff the 30 Ironbreakers. Sisters of the Thorn I've always loved these models, plus they're wizards that move far! I've worked up two of the bases to show the forest theme I'm going for- All city inhabitants- the humans and dwarves- will have cobbled street basing. The elves will have wood themed basing. Huron, reflecting the fact he straddles both the city and the wilds outside, is sitting on the edge of the forest, with half his base having cobbled street effect. Gyrocopters These fellas are just fun. Models are great and they're not that expensive points wise. The Last Argument of Kings, Greywater Artillery Company I like the crew models for these and always good to have some shooting in the army. Luminark of Hysh I always need to have an obnoxious base for any army, and this is the Cities one. A bridge over a stream! I'll fill the river with poured resin, something I've never done until the Sisters of the Thorn basing. That's it! Currently getting through the Sisters of the Thorn and loving doing the basing.
  22. I've got two kits and am building the other as luminark! Haven't got anything to do with the luminark bits from this kit though...
  23. I like the leathery skin tones on him. This sounds like a fun project!
