  1. That's a nice rule change. Double turn is a nice differentiator for AoS to any other system but this makes it a little bit more interesting.
  2. I had a question about the doubles GT- do we both get commanders with command abilities that we can use? And re megic- I take it we're limited to rules of one over our combined 2,000 pt force, rather than being able to cast 2xMystic Shield/2x Arcane bolt?
  3. I get they send out retail boxes, but I assumed they'd keep all painting in house for unannounced kits
  4. Don't GW have an in-house paint team that do all their paint jobs?
  5. Initially i really disliked the fluff. They were soulless (not actually without soul, but just uninteresting) steroid taking mega dudes and sort of summed up AoS at launch. Now we're getting some more interesting stuff from them, some named characters, interesting moral choices etc they're becoming interesting.
  6. Unfortunately, profit will drive the decision, and Stormcast are very profitable and popular. I can't wait for the Skaven tome and new Ogor stuff, but I'm ok to wait if it takes more Stormcast to fill the coffers before concentrating on less popular forces.
  7. Dude, AoS has had more new models than 40k this year. AoS has 2 new factions this year. 40k hasn't had any new factions. AoS has Malign Portents. 40k just got a new edition, and AoS stil had more models and new factions. GW are putting a lot of effort into AoS, even though it's the smaller game.
  8. If they keep everything as is, surely destruction will totally dominate then? An ironjawz force can engage in combat turn 1 in a lot of instances. If they get all their combats first, that's game over pretty much. I can't see them doing it without significant re-pointing all units or doing a different implementation than they have with 40k.
  9. I'm happy AoS is moving forward, but I can't see how you can change how charging works without destroying the current points system. If they do it, then great, but I imagine it won't be the same as 40k. More magic would be cool. Being able to bring a tome of magic with you to battle and choose spells depending on circumstance would be nice, rather than the very limited number wizards currently have.
  10. I would be extremely surprised if this was happening as it works in 40k. It would make destruction extremely powerful and would require huge points re-calculation for all forces, an absolute nightmare to implement. As I've written before, charges before other combats works in 40k because it helps those forces weak at shooting (orks, tyranids) to become strong in combat in a game that's all about shooting. AoS isn't all about shooting, combat is the big phase for damage dealing.
  11. I really don't think most AoS players are like us on this forum. They don't read unit lists and list build before buying models, they just buy what they think is cool. Space Marines and Stormcast are the sort of vanilla force of 40k/AoS. I don't actually think either are bad at all. It's just both seem relatively boring model and fluff wise compared to the other stuff on offer.
  12. That's true. I would point out that many people got the box for the mini Knights, which are soon to get their own battletome, along with a new amazing looking super-knight, and the whole faction allies in really nicely with any (read: space marine) imperial force. I wouldn't be surprised if forgebane was limited release and Dark Imperium remains as the 40k starter box tbh. I would love a non-stormcast box, but it makes sense to cater to 40% of the audience if you can, rather than any other, much smaller share.
  13. From some surveys I've seen on AoS fan pages, 40% of AoS players collect stormcast, so it makes perfect sense to keep releasing Stormcast stuff. At least it's not the 95% share that space marines have in 40k!
  14. I thought they now always 3d print a 2/3/4 up model from the 3d files? The Eisenhorn model preview was clearly 3d printed too.
  15. I'm glad photographing unreleased products by someone suffering an heart attack using a 20 year old camera attached to a vibrator is still going strong. To address the name- HellPit is a Moulder name, not Skryre, so doubt it's authentic.
  16. Because the balance between shooting and combat is completely different between the two games.40k is shooting heavy, AoS is combat heavy. By making all charges activate first, you're completely changing the balance of the game. A lot of forces will become almost redundant. It would be great for fast moving destruction forces like ironjawz i guess, but it would break the game with the current battletomes. The alternating combat is really an excellent system. You have to really think about what to charge, which to activate first and what units to risk by not activating first. I am a little concerned about these rumours to be honest. 40k 8th when it came out was an interesting game. Now that every force has dozens of strategems, it's just ludicrous. Every game is like "here's a new thing you've never heard of that you could never prepare for, haha!". Malign Portents, though an interesting add-on for AoS, imitate this too much for me. It's no fun going into a game and learning dozens of new strategems/portents/whatever every time. AoS is great because it didn't have the bloat of 7th 40k. Now 8th 40k is starting to rival 7th, i really don't think it's something we should want AoS to follow. GW just can't seem to help themselves with bloat in their games (it's why I think their specialist games are so good- they don't change the rules!). If AoS becomes a hulking blubbery mass of rules, it sort of contradicts the whole point of AoS in the first place as an alternative to 40k and as a total revamp of fantasy 8th.
  17. Quality post! I'm excited to see how the tome is. I'm torn between Death, BCR and Idoneth now. I have the BCR and Death tomes so I'll have to hold off on models till I can get the Idoneth one.
  18. My only beef with Idoneth is the number of flying bases. They're a pain in the ****** to transport and move into combat. I have to keep the base seperate and then the model just swing around on the base as you play. Otherwise they're amazing!
  19. Interesting! Might give this a go. I agree that 2hrs may be tight, but if it normally works, I'm game!
  20. I completed the basecoat on the great unclean one with three colours- a light green called Dead Flesh, a dark green called.......Dark Green, and a bright pink/red for the wounds. It looks very airbrushed right now, which is not a look I like, but hopefully some washes and detailing with a brush will help! I found consistency with this airbrush to be pretty difficult. I'll be painting with perfect coverage, nice smooth gradients of colour, and then a minute later it's all spotty! I've found putting some thinner into the pot first and then the paint, mixing it up and spraying through a bit seems to help with coverage. I was also painting at around 15psi which seems to have been too weak, so I'm now using 25psi.
  21. The airbrush arrived along with airbrush cleaning fluid, an airbrush cleaning station and this airbrush paint station from HobbyZone (my whole desk is covered in their stuff, so I felt confident this thing would be great, and it is!) With the airbrush all set up I decided to test out on a Gnarlmaw and base coat it. Success! Now on to the Great Unclean One. Having base coasted with Vallejo Primer black, I then used GW's White Scare Air in an attempt to shade a little before putting the base coat on. Which was a mistake. As is my experience with all GW's whites and some of their bright yellows, it came out chalky and lumpy. I tried making sure the paint was stirred thoroughly, I added thinner, but nothing helped so I stopped there and waited to get some Vallejo white. The Vallejo white came out smooth as and worked great for this highlighting stage. Finally I basecoated the whole thing in Vallejo Game Air Dead Flesh, as per Terry's excellent video. All these stages had to be repeated for each head and arm choice so it took a while! Happily it's a very smooth finish, so the "chalkiness" from the GW white that was on some of the model didn't come through this final layer. It was much less chunky that the GW white rattlecan spray, which I've had some pretty bad experiences with! Stuff I leanred from this first session: -Don't use GW whites ever again. -Every paint behaves differently through an airbrush. I didn't think it would be the case, but Vallejo white requires different air pressure than Dead Flesh and seems to come out slower too. I think testing out every paint on some paper first is going to be required so I know exactly what I'm working with. -The cheap pump is great but can get very hot. I'm not sure how it would do after a day's painting session. I've used it for about 2 hours straight at most. -The cheap airbrush is fine, but maintenance can be a bit frustrating- it has a side gravity feed, not just a cup on top, which seems to introduce an additional corner for paint to get stuck in! From tutorials and videos, all airbrushes seem to need this maintenance, so it's not really an issue. As mentioned above, different paints behave quite differently- sometimes not much paint is coming through, or it sprays out in a wider area. I'm not sure if this is the brush or my maintenance which isn't thorough or consistent enough.
  22. At least they could donate some stuff that's up for grabs as an incentive for a subscription model of some kind.
  23. So I've just ordered the Switzer AS186 (From here) as my first airbrush. It's gotten some good reviews as a first airbrush. I'm intending to follow this tutorial. Terry is an excellent teacher and he uses airbrushing for basecoating and the base colours, with zenithal highlighting, which I think should be manageable for a first time user. The rest is washes, drybrushing and regular layering techniques. I'm a little apprehensive of using a £70 airbrush/compressor kit! I'll post again when I receive the airbrush with initial impression.
  24. BoardGameGeek have a yearly donation drive. People who donate a certain amount get an advert free experience and a badge under their avatar saying they're a BGG Supporter on something like that. As others have said, I'd be happy to be a monthly/yearly subscriber and a special badge for paid subscribers is a little incentive that really seems to work. This forum is easily the highest quality one I've used for any hobby or profession and I'd hate to start seeing adverts! More merchandise would be a good thing too- the terrain dice are great but adding more might help.
