  1. This is simply untrue, you are wrong about Empire and you are wildly misleading about 40k. The imperium isnt popular, Space marines are, and it's not even vaguely close, they've previously made up half gws sales in total, let alone 40k and are at best debateably human aesthetic wise. Meanwhile, from extensive sales experience I can tell you first hand the human Warhammer armies were never top sellers, certainly in the 00's, Empire was kinda mid table and Bret's were bottom, in fact I'd be surprised if my shop ever sold any. But don't take my word for it, Alan Merret confirmed as much in his Jordan Sorcery interview, and he's one of the best people to know. (Though I was surprised he put elves ahead of vampires) Yes, low effort. Compared to any other game release gw makes nearly all of the work is already done. The miniatures are already concepted, designed, produced and in most cases previously released. Compared to a truly new game or a range refresh they have shaved years of work off, it's an absolute bargain for the company as nearly all the work that does need doing is writers, who are on average pretty cheap. (Which kinda sucks but hey). low effort is actually a good thing here though, because Warhammer was never going to come back as a complete revamp or anywhere near as fast as some people are naively assuming...BUT IT IS COMING BACK and that's pretty good overall, it's just going to be patchy for a few years, just like every other release from Specialist games has been. Well. Except Titanicus, the best game SGS makes
  2. I'd be surprised by too many human armies, they long ago discovered humans don't sell anywhere near as well as everyone else, so I'd expect a similar low effort drop feed for their releases in a couple of years starting with a Merc/ally focused list again. I don't think OW is going to fail, but I do despair that resources are wasted on departmental rivalries instead of getting us as many great, Non redundant models as possible, paying over the odds for classic but dated minis is what MTO is great for rather than using up SKUs and resources long term for dust storage. And then my worry is too many static kit sales means less for future armies. I guess we will see. (Also, selling out is a frakkin worthless metric guys, they might have only made 3 copies Im sure it's popular but shouting "it sold out!" Like it means anything is silly, especially when GW is struggling to make anything right now)
  3. Yeah they are going to delay the legacy pdfs as long as they can aren't they The orcs and gobbos looking good, some absolutely deranged choices in there but bigger is better No new plastics is a worrying precedent though, we need some plastic slayers!
  4. Warhammer forge was such a range of bangers, it f I'd k no own for just how short be a time I'd be ha be e bought half the monstrous arcana!
  5. Dwarves and Darkelves too on the UK store, can't draw much from it with all the production shortages though
  6. I don't think we need a character for every realm, for every faction, because let's be honest, adding that many means half of them will be phoned in and forgotten. Whst would be awesome is every battletome spending half a page or more (plus art!) On each realm letting us know how that faction exists there, you can be a bit flexible, as some factions aren't in every realm but might have an eight points entry or something instead. Ill bet that would generate ideas and discussions for not just us, but the writers too!
  7. If only there was some reason they never got released originally eh?
  8. I reckon it might be a high elf star dragon? The stamps from last year had elves fighting dwarves I think? And dwarves feel imminent
  9. Halberds and spears work about the same, there is no extra benefit to hand wep and shield though. All the melee state troops are one statline, but one unit per 1000 points can be made veteran which gives ws4 and some extra options for USRs and magic items, so you could use that for your swordsmen
  10. Id just use multiple trays around the bell, thats what my old 8th ed opponent did with his legendary 100+ clanrat unit with bell
  11. Interestingly i was looking at the GW website to try and choose between a general or wizard lord on big griffon (advice welcome) and all the Dwarves and Dark Elves are currently sold out for soooome reason lol
  12. Based on previous editions vaguely... Dwarf Lord Battle standard bearer hero Runesmith Slayers or Engineers to taste A block of Dwarf warriors, aim for 20? You can always add more later. I suspect great weapons might be the best choice in this I dominated melee? Thunderers or Quarrellers as you prefer A couple of blocks of the various more elite warriors IE slayers, hammerers, iron breakers. They are all pretty fun, go for the ones you like the most. A fistful of field guns, again, lots of variety and theyve all changed in the new rules anyway, grab the ones you like the look of One of the Gyrocopters so you can see a bit of mobility. Hope that helps, its a whole new edition rife with changes so its hard to be specific in any useful way..
  13. For those folk who bought the starter boxes, Mikey from Hellstorm wargaming has made some 40k style datasheets for easy reference: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19c_Du_Qtsvw0LTICx0L0F08bXEh7QBxM And a video talking about them and stuff: I know id find them super handy if i was playing those armies!
  14. So reading those sections with squinto vision... First one, people might have old armies on different bases, this is ok except in matched play. Second one, Artillery crew are just wound markers essentially so they should in theory all fit on the designated bases (Which is insane imho) but disregard them for play purposes. Some people make bigger diorama bases for artillery and this is fine too. Which is good, cos thats what im doing
  15. Weird that Gors are staying on 25mms... 32mm obviously wont go down to 25 but people are making some that cluster them close together that should work well enough. Being bigger is mostly downside these days anyway.
  16. I think end of the month might be pushing it, its not this week, and we have a confirmed week for Epic too, then we are out January unless the reduce the preorders again?
  17. *Ahem* The thing i actually came here to share is that some influencers have let slip they have the PDF lists already, so at least we wont be waiting an age for them hopefully, for those concerned by the language slip from "On release" to "soon". So thats good!
  18. Yeah theyve pretty clearly excluded based on AoS ranges, the only reason they couldnt do Chaos is because the setting would be an outright joke if they excluded it, not to mention Chaos Warriors being the biggest selling faction since they existed, thats too many grogs to exclude. So they got a crappy armylist to discourage them in the meantime, and i suspect they may be the last book, but watch them still crop up more than you might expect The fluff can always do whatever you want it to, just look at the Tomb kings who famously spend 99% of their time minding their own business in Khemri, far away from the Old World placed front and centre in the new edition Even the Brets arent exactly outgoing aside from the odd Border disputes with everyone. (And yes im aware of both Crusades and Settra, this is speaking in obvious generalities on the level of "All Skaven are juuuusssst offscreen right now" and "Vlad/Manny died so all the Non Von Carstein vampires fell down a plot hole")
  19. Artillery is also a bit cheaper and considerably more available, someone could slot in 10 guns in both Dwarf and Empire lists, potentially more in a Nuln or Engineer focused special army, so its ups and downs Reading the Empire, Dwarves and Chaos warriors lists; Im quite happy with Empire (Was hoping for pikes though, cant lie ) though theyve gone very generic with them in places it feels; Dwarves look great, might get some adapter bases for them; Chaos Warriors got done dirrrrty with a load of stuff missing, most units stripped back to heavy armour (Though Chaos armour did get a ward save) and a bit of a negative vibe. The other half of their army book might help Chaos but im not holding my breath for that right now! The Exiled Brets are all new stuff, well, calling back to 4th and earlier stuff. The Border Princes have always been a mish mash of all the various nations forming extremely temporary kingdoms, including Bretonians. The Exiles vow feels like a real cop out though.
  20. So GMG showed the Mercenary rules (Essentially they become a bit rubbish if you dont roll a 2+) but ive not seen anywhere what units you can take as mercenaries? Marienburgers need to know
  21. I mean, with even the briefest examination, the thought of one of the most (small c) chaotic factions in the world uniformly staying below ground for centuries is absolutely ridiculous, and bear in mind a warhammer armies worth of Skaven is a drop in the rat-ocean... Similarly for Vampire counts, the Von Carsteins are laying low but aaaaaall the other vampires are up and about being much more unambiguously evil f thats what they want undead to be. Lizardmen can teleport! Their lantern hanging is just starting fires... And thats the thing, i can be a grouchy old sod but i literally put up a froth post in out groups FB chat on Sunday talking about how keen i was for Old World instead of Epic and ive ended the work week no longer planning to buy anything tomorrow at all. Thanks Warhammer community because i am really broke after Christmas
  22. I think they know they cant win people over with their product so they are going hardline, but it really does come off like some defensive tantrum at this point. And yeah, i really dont think its a coincidence the races that got new stuff in AoS are the discarded ones, this kind of interdepartmental rivalry has been mildly annoying in 30/40k for years.
  23. Ech... The difference between "Here are some PDFs to get you by, we cant release all of warhammer in a timely manner" and "Here are some PDFs if you must, but get a real army asap" is pretty stark. Not a good look doing it so late either. Unit fillers can be fun and great, but i really hate the ones that are just rocks or other stationary objects literally acting as fillers when some people put huge efforts into actual mini dioramas, pets, monsters and the like to fill in the space whilst looking cool.
