  1. Not sure its clever being mysterious about it, rebasing an army is a tedious chore so giving me a bit of time to get it done in a surge of enthusiasm is probably a better idea than being mildly frustrating and risking me not being bothered at all or just going third party or printing a brand new army rather than adding to an old one because ive already got a leg in the water. May have been eyeballing historicals when i was at firestorm recently for exactly this purpose You can already get all kinds of bases in all kinds of materials from all sorts of places, i dont think anyone is going to be making a new range of bases for ToW unless GW have gone for some really obscure new sizes, which feels unlikely
  2. Look at the pictures Never to this degree to my recollection, all of the Heroes are out of the units, and remarkably consistently placed across all the different shots, not just two heroes squaring off or something. GW has almost always set up marketing photos like a (clean, casualty free) game in progress unless its something narrative or arty, and these are definitely marketing shots.
  3. Characters not in units was my main extra takeaway Interesting if they've pulled back the pushing mechanics from ancient Warhammer, I'd assumed they were exaggerating about looking at every edition of Warhammer
  4. I was always put off One page rules because the rules are more than one page, and if they are lying in the title...
  5. Honestly i think the changes to Cities of sigmar has kinda soured me on the game as a whole right now. The new Dawnbringer minis are mostly dross and they are stripping characterful stuff away to make room for them. Mostly the old Empire sculpts really, fantasy drawing on landsknecht and the like was something legitimately different in the field, the new stuff you could mostly put under a D&D banner and it would fit, its just so generic with a spot of memey "warhammer". Its a shame, but ill probably get over it a few years down the line, just like the awful Slayer reboot and the disappointing Skaven lack of a reboot, though i am a bit worried by the sculpting direction for humans, the seraphon range is superb, so hopefully Dwarves and rats gets the former when its finally our time. (Kharadon are great incidentally, just not entirely my thing)
  6. Well, arguably it was a continuation of disappointing sales until the Generals Handbook made it a bit more popular I dont think this is deliberate exactly, just mission creep and wildly over enthusiastic marketing spread out over years coming home to roost. Still, i suspect the re-releases to be the backbone of the game and some of those are quite exciting, albeit as bits for my 3/40k armies! (Already got a Dwarf host ill try out in TOW, might expand if it takes off)
  7. Skaven are also one of the few, almost entirely original IP's GW has in AoS, which is worth maintaining even if they havent been much bothered with the army itself recently.
  8. A lot of people just use Grognard as a "veteran veteran" which often means they have plenty of grumbling in them but thats just a trait most people get with age Personally id long expected a disappointment engine but was still irked at them not covering Dogs of War, mostly because thats the army i was interested in building. I still have a big old Dwarf army for my younger years plus random adds that i stripped and prepped before the true horror of launch AoS was announced (its great now, but launch AoS was dire) so i can just run that, and maybe rebase if the game is good and played in our area. Honestly though, it might do well simply off the back of 40k and AoD hacking half my group off (For mostly petty reasons, see above lol) but Epic is coming along too, and that has none of the baggage OW has built up the last while.
  9. Didnt FS also poll as the least popular army a while back though? Every army is always going to have adherents, hell, im an Anathema Psykana "main" in 40k and they essentially erased us as a faction... I guess what GW has to look at is whether a range refresh for FS will pay off, IE essentially is it their awful model range keeping them down or their puddle deep fluff? Personally id like to see how they do as part of a "Dawi resurgent" soupy list with hopefully a new unit as proof of concept, keep the option to run pure FS but bring in some real dwarves to give the list some backbone. Then as part of a larger and probably more popular faction you have safer ground to expand the FS side of things a bit down the line, and therefore support the folks who prefer them alone. Its all speculation on our part of course, perhaps there is some obsessive millionaire with a bunker filled wall to wall with FS boxes, adding to them by the truckload; perhaps they barely sell a kit or two a year? Im guessing the answer lies in the middle somewhere as they havent been well supported, but they havent been axed either. EDIT I mean arguably they have been getting better support than fan fave Skaven
  10. Thats a very good point, theyve been running a disappointment engine the last few years, we shouldnt really take all these pictures of minis imply they will be released any time soon given their older nature, we could be looking at the first year or two's releases after all. Which is what was bugging me about the release, much much more miniatures than i was expecting and a squidge less rules, like, rules are far and away more elastic (and cheap!) than miniature production so i would really rather have expected the opposite, rules for everyone and fairly limited model support out the gate that fills out over the first year of so for the core factions and then maybe look at the rest or new armies down the line. Though i probably would have done one entirely new line (in the core box) to gauge interest from veterans as y'know most of us still have a couple of fantasy armies or could rebase (or buy and rebase!) an AoS one which gives them no sales indication at all aside from maybe the sales of new bases?
  11. I guess the test will be units invented/updated for AoS that would fit perfectly well in WFB armies/era. Base size has definitely been an issue forever, like, even as a kid building the brand new regiment kit Chaos warriors they absolutely struggled to fit on bases and in the end i had to write a grid reference on each minis base for the one spot they would go and form a coherent square A proper unit of plastic slayers would be ace, i clearly never bought enough as a nipper and their prices these days are sky high!
  12. I think it was doing the setting a disservice tbh, most factions in warhammer are considerably more nuanced than "good and evil" after all. Like, the glaringly obvious example of Tomb Kings and Wood Elves, who should have exactly the same "alignment" of being reclusive, somewhat outside the regular, dislike chaos but Kill most visitors on sight and occasionally mess with the Bretonnians for laughs. They are both "neutral" if you have to be so basic
  13. Well their idea of "soon" turned out to be over a year with 30k, lord knows when eventually will end up being unfortunately.
  14. 1. Marienburg has long been known for using its vast wealth to pull in loads of mercenaries and in several depictions has fielded essentially a Dogs of War army with an Empire flavour. 2. If the focus is on the Border princes its fairly obviously is not on the Empire civil war. Like, obviously? Id also mention Kislev and Cathay but they never seemed particularly likely to me, but then they are both coming up around the place in other places. 3. So those units are in the main army lists? Or are they tucked away in a notoriously half arsed PDF? Its hardly a complete list either is it? I mean, there arent rules for all armies, and there isnt a suggestion that will change, so its hardly a dream come true if those are one of your armies is it? I think its worth noting that this is a remix of previous editions right, those army lists already exist in some form that probably require minimal work to get functional and put in a PDF, mark em off as legends or whatever if you cant put resources into balancing them, but having the option for people to use their forces would be good.
  15. And the disappointment engine they built up over the last few years keeps rolling on... No Dogs of War is a particular disappointment as i was looking to build a Marienburg army, i guess because they were setting up the Empire civil war as the main setting, but then i guess all the setting setup over the last few years was red herrings because its back to the border princes... The Treeman decision is bizarre too, but then it smacks of the decisions for 30k too where they deliberately go out of their way to avoid 40k kits even if they work in period, presumably to keep sales under their own banner. Which is probably why no skaven too, seeing as their range is essentially unchanged since 8th. Still, itll be nice to have some White lion bits to convert with.
  16. There absolutely comes a point where X-hammer loses all meaning and you need to start using edition names. That time is now Picked up a few more Dwarves recently to expand my old Throng but im waiting on bases, rebasing whole armies is tedious but i dont think movement trays are really the answer given the lack of flexibility you might want, let alone skirmishers and the like. I am hoping basing artillery together wont be too awkward though as it looks a lot better imho.
  17. Awwww yisss, been after white lion bits for years for my Sisters of Silence, but over £100 a box is insane.
  18. Theyve done some on edition release days before to look forward a bit, but i suspect itll be very 40k focused. Would love a Kurnothi release, but id worry about it too, the AoS mini designs have been verrry love or hate recently!
  19. They probably wont be, they are an old Warhammer army and i dont think much if any of it has survived in cities already!
  20. Yeah GW has technical terms for its boxes that nobody else uses, but i think they should have been able to decipher that one on the floor tbh. Though it IS good that they came back and clarified afterwards rather than just ignoring us as usual. Honestly OW has been promising so much, for so long that the next few months are bound to be a series of disappointing updates as reality dials itself back in and the actual products get launched. Personally i suspect its going to be like Necromunda and only be good after a year or two of releases if you dont have a few armies already set to go. Ill see how it is before i start rebasing all my dwarves or start a new army, though doing dogs of war with Warlord Landsknechts and Wargames Atlantic ogres is very tempting...
  21. Damn that Paladin is sweet, shame hes resin though
  22. Hmm i wouldnt expect to see newer AoS units brought into OW en masse, maybe a few? But FW/SG have historically been keen to avoid including mainline GW kits in 30k even when they really should, id expect that in OW too, i mean look at the wolfriders already... Most armies in Warhammer have a few playstyles so thatd be a biiiig post, i suspect the rules wont exactly match any given edition but im sure old tactics advice pages from various editions are still online!
  23. I think a big part of the clone army is the heads though (Ad also argue the weapons dont help but arent a problem by themselves) as its such an enormous part of identifying a model and its the one part thats essentially identical on every FS. I mean look at the classic slayer range, they are all much more naked, but you can tell the various types apart and they are all armed with similar melee weapons (Though growing in fanciness on the heroes) with things like ornamentation and even scale. Identifying units by their level of beard (and rune) bling would be the most Dwarven thing possible But you arent wrong, id always like to include so reverse compatibility for existing players but its the least popular army for a reason, a revamp is probably the best thing for them and the game.
  24. I dont think you really need too much work to fix the FS, just ditch the helmets and bring back characterful faces with mohawks and you are halfway there, the runes are cool even the weird weapons arent totally awful, (though id love a good dwarven axe option) make em use the same neck join or something and you can reverse engineer the heads even. Wouldnt say no to more drakes, golems or artillery if they looked good though. I just think they took one of the most distinctive units, armies even, from Warhammer and completely failed to grasp why they were popular.
  25. Id be happy with a FS relaunch/expansion pulling them closer to real slayers aesthetic, ideally alternate units so folks can stick with the old look if they like but replacements work personally
