  1. Yeah by their very nature MTO stuff isnt part of the range in any useful stuff, theyd be mad not to do it but its also typically single minis and elites rather than plastic units. The old Chaos warriors do blend in alright as back rank fillers, but the new ones look so much better, and should fit fine on whatever new bases they get. I doubt they will do a reboxing to include both sets of bases but will sell them separately for folks. I am interested to see what they release for Empire in the end, both them and Orcs have had most of their ranges removed from AoS and are the rumoured "second wave" for OW.
  2. I do wonder is squarebased have ended up on a blacklist just for showing off the cover, i dont think ive ever seen someone with influencer previews tell everyone to drum up subs before so presumably GW arent keen on it? They had previously posted about having the book on FB groups. I guess they wont say either way to stop spite leaks? In my experience the kind of cretins who moan online about their toy soldiers being women either rarely come out to play games or at least keep a lid on it, just regular everyday misogyny I do find it quite funny that the first Old World novel is largely not set in the actual Old World though, tickles me
  3. I think you are clearly letting your dislike for the setting blind you to the reality there. We have absolutely no idea what Amazon thinks about Age of Sigmar based on this. On paper its the much more profitable setting for GW thats been pretty obvious for years but its not all about the biggest numbers being best, thats my entire point For all we know GW tossed it in as a freebie to support Old World down the line for example.
  4. Age of Sigmar is better developed as a setting than a lot of things taken to TV in the past, negotiations over this kind of thing are usually significantly both more arbitrary and complex than we know behind the scenes. Warhammer might have been the cheaper option, or someone involved might be personally invested in it, or just liked the sound of the words... Some of the stories ive had from friends in the industry are mad as hell
  5. Its different to the dwarf land ship, much more modern and i presume intended to be plastic? Like 8th edition era. Funnily enough selling one of those old Landships is what put me off selling to old hammerers though Peachy has spoken about it on the Painting phase a couple of times, i think in his interviews early on? But its his go to example for things getting cancelled fairly late in development, something like word on high just vetoed the whole concept.
  6. You could always play almost any army as a Border Princes kingdom, the area is pretty much designed to be a melting pot for exactly that reason The Dwarf tank was past being designed and well into the hands of the army painter team to be painted when it got shelved so good odds we might see it as their new kit...
  7. Im gonna guess its a bombard. From the border princes Before they firmed up the Bretonnian fluff so all the human armies were essentially reskins they had a whole bunch of era appropriate warmachines including a cannon, seems they are already calling back to that era with the foot knights so it makes sense to bring back some more units they previous despised
  8. Seems like nothing new this week, the preorder preview is just a rehash
  9. But if you finished the paragraph, its already happened. Even the newest game in the series launched nearly 2 years ago now, and the first part of it is as old as Age of Sigmar/End times. Whilst people are still playing it, most of the things i hear about the game recently are about scummy DLC practices? Im not saying its impossible but i dont foresee a huge number of people who played the game, got really excited about trying it on tabletop and then waited years to do that?
  10. The conversion rate from computer games to full on army collecting is relatively miniscule, its not nothing, i was working on the front line for a few of the notable computer game release bumps in the past but i suspect that wave has already passed. If someone was going to take up tabletop wargaming based on total war they are already playing Age of Sigmar (Or some other game idk) not waiting around for what was a dead game for most of this games lifecycle to buy in. Like, of the people who play Total Warhammer consistently in my extended friends group its roughly 2 people who were consistently wargaming anyway, 2 folks who like the idea of it but never fully commit, a handful of lapsed gamers and 4-5 who afaik have never expressed any interest in it. (Bit of crossover in the last two i suspect) not one actual "convert" as far as im aware. Now thats just one not particularly rigorous example (And we are very middle aged) but i suspect it tracks. The most effective recruiting for OW is old warhammer players harassing their friends
  11. Apparently some influencer copies are out there in peoples hands already, which seems to support a January/February release window i guess?
  12. Damn, i was still kinda hoping they would do new skeletons but those were dated back in 8th ed, let alone now, yuck. I had a whole scheme back then for a casket of souls in a watchtower Raiders of the lost arcing everything but the infantry put me off!
  13. I mean, that kinda assumes the enemy has extremely minimal shooting and no artillery though? I mean thats why they added Praying to the Lady because cannons just obliterated lance formations Dont forget the ward save though! But roughly working out, a unit of 20 human crossbows (As thats what i have literally in front of me) gets 10 hits, 5 wounds, 2.5 saves, round it down to 2 casualties from the ward save. Youll usually get a couple of volleys (Albeit at least one at long range) unless the Bret player doesnt pray (But always pray!) and thats just one unit, probably a cheaper one too, not even focused fire from an army. Nothing exists in a vacuum though, if you shoot everything at the grail knights, the Knights of the realm are hitting intact, i definitely think they can work. One thing this did bring up for me is the lance formation losing one of its big advantages of having a narrow frontage, when the whole front rank of an enemy unit will strike anyway in this edition, it will weirdly be the case that wide formations will be more effective against brets than deep ones!
  14. We cant know the full picture of saves until we see more than Grail knights, it might be theyve saved that gap for the most armoured things without having to dip into 1+ saves and the like for things like Chaos Knights or Gromril armour. We might have also seen a reduction of armour mods across the board or something, they have certainly upped their impact with removing rank bonuses! I wouldnt like to speculate on base sizes personally as rebasing again in succession would just suck With WHC doing a snarky response of essentially "Shut up and wait" it seems we are waiting for leaks or release outside of specific units being spoilered or pictured.
  15. And especially when only one unit has a certain special rule, just write it on the units entry! The future proofing isnt worth having to hunt it down!
  16. Yeah the absolute worst implementation of USRs ever seen makes playing 30k a big pain right now, having to find every weapon and rules buried in a haystack is not good. Id guess too much testing focused on fairly straightforward basic marine on basic marine fights and not enough on anything else really. To the end that making my own datacards is the only way to make it playable for my Sisters of Silence with their mound of special rules and i still forget some ! Really hope theyve learned from that for ToW, at least epic seems better.
  17. Not exactly, its the rarest stuff that fetches the highest prices and that usually means the least desirable things when they were out on release even when the market is fairly small. Like, i watched an aution for the objectively awful Captain Coteaz model go over £200 because noone bought him (He was a running joke in our stock take in fact, and a specific item on the dusting list ) in the olde days and some collectors be crazy
  18. Yeah they clearly moved the setting and goalposts around during development, we dont know for sure but i could see the team getting all excited about something like a Kislev army before things shifted and they get like 2 plastic and a handful of resin kit "slots" for new kits and had to change their plans. I am a bit concerned by them focusing their launch apparently solely on the two least popular armies in old Warhammer, but i can see the logic, they are armies grognards are less likely to have lying around already so might get caught up in and buy, but im not sure how likely that is to work? We will see i guess!
  19. I think the plan for Old World went through a few phases in development with different settings or eras over the years in development and in at least one of those Kislev (And Cathay possibly) featured prominently, presumably because they had a bigger budget for the game's mini releases than they ended up with, thus adding to existing lines rather than creating new ones in the final product. As for gates, there really arent any that people try to erect themselves, its a commercial product, long designed to be playable by anyone. Having just watched Jordan Sorcery's interview with Alan Merrett, one of the aims for the initial big box games was something you could sell in a supermarket and someone could pick up and play, and that was back in the 90's In all the years running beginner courses i never found a kid who wanted to learn Warhammer and couldnt, its arguably not the best system in places, bit archaic and clunky but its not an achievement to learn it.
  20. Of course its gatekeeping, yOu ArENt sMoRt EnOUgh foR WaRhamS! Is pretty textbook. Warhammer is not a complicated game by wargaming standards, and its kinda adorable you think it is Most of the rulebooks arent even rules? They also have considerably higher production values and thought put into their presentation and how someone will refer to them compared to the vast majority ive played over the years. As i said above, anyone can play warhammer with a reference sheet and an opponent capable of a modicum of patience. Its a social game, you are expected to at least put some effort into this. Back on topic, ive been seduced by a black friday deal into ordering some troops for the Marienburger army i formerly abandoned, (Ill just use pikes as spears, though they doooo mention Pikes in this article...) and was wondering if anyone had a good source of bases/trays suitable for magnetisation in the new sizes, (I am making the assumption all humans will be on 25mm squares) especially the wider regiment bases as im gonna be fielding a lot of scrubs Google has been less useful than usual thanks to optimisation.
  21. @Hollow nobody likes a gatekeeper dude. Warhammer is a simple enough game that anyone can play it with a reference card but we arent all built the same way and being an ass about it serves noone. I suspect a lot of tomb king armies may be filled out by the Wargames Atlantic offerings as they are working through a set of skeleton infantry/cavalry/chariots right now. Its mind boggling that they havent replaced models widely considered to be fugly millstones so many years ago, which is a shame, because outside of the core, the Tomb kings range is great!
  22. Combat at least looks fine, mostly the combat results, the rest is vaguely as expected but a more realistic set of results from the leadership test is excellent.
  23. I dont think liking most of it is an unusual position I just wish you could see it better, especially how the skeleton and howdah actually connect...
  24. Looks pretty good, i really wish they hadnt had the intern put the bone coloured model on the bone colour background though... Did noone look at this beforehand? Half the Dragon itself is really vague.
  25. Oh my word, even at potato quality that is a damn fine, nay, inspiring model. DAMN
