  1. Because there are people out there that thrive on controversy and let's be honest fake or not, this document has certainly caused quite a bit 😉
  2. At the risk of going off at a slight tangent, I do have one question that's risen to the surface of my mind. Do people see a distinction between a content creator and hobby business? I'll pre-empt that I suspect there's actually quite a bit of nuance and not one defined answer to this 😊
  3. OK, I'll take that critique on the chin - it's a fair comment. One of the reason I know I can come across as pro-GW is because most of my venting about things GW does tends to be done over zoom with my hobby group. It means I don't need to get it out of my system on here, so you really only get the positive side of things. Don't get me wrong, like Gaz there are a few bits GW have done that I don't agree with, but I'm very conscious that if I focus too much on those things that it'll ultimately mean I get less enjoyment out of the hobby. As I've got older I've also become much more of a glass half full person - if I can't change something I'll do my best to not dwell on it too much. MOD reply. There's two parts to this. Firstly in the past we've had instances where we've not stepped in early enough and had to tidy up a mess with members being downright unpleasant to each other (on occasions resulting warnings & bans). Secondly quite often our intervention has been following one or multiple reports where other members have reported a post. In truth we're behind a rock and a hard place because whatever we do won't be right for somebody - sorry.
  4. Finally finished and revealed my Zombie Dragon conversion! https://www.tga.community/forums/topic/29244-tale-of-two-moderators/?do=findComment&comment=551346
  5. That'd be living the dream! Though I do consider I have a face for radio which may restrict things 🤣
  6. I'm seeing more people debunking this as a fake and pointing out the inconsistencies. Personally until it's been 100% confirmed as real (i.e. somebody going, "yes, this is word for word what I've been sent by GW") and clarified what the NDA is for I think we need to be a bit careful when stating absolutes and decrying GW as monsters 😉 I reckon there's only one way to prove this - I need to become a YouTube influencer! Best dust off the web cam...
  7. Still not seen any actual confirmation that this is real and not a hoaxer trying to stir things up. It's been stated by at least 5 people now that this isn't the NDA they've had to sign for receiving preview copies too - make of that what you will. Regardless, it's down to the individual to review any document they need to sign and get expert advice as necessary. If we're honest most of us are armchair lawyers and although we're good at reading rules, this isn't the same as reading a legal document. Even in AoS, three people can interpret the same rule in three different ways, so the likelihood of misreading legal talk is going to be pretty high! For me this highlights how two people can read the same piece of text and interpret it differently. Restricted Customer has a very specific terminology in legal terms and generally means somebody who has worked for the company in the past year. You're reading 4.1.1 as referring to ANY GW customer, which isn't what is actually being said. It's why I'd personally never sign something like this without having an expert cast an eye over it first.
  8. Somehow the weather gods were kind to me today and not only did I manage to finish the last bit of filling, but I actually got the blessed thing undercoated! Rest of the pictures in a spoiler snippet as I can't work out how to scale them down 🤣 The inner cavity of the chest is actually sculpted - something I'm really not an expert on (and yes it will be mostly covered up). I really underestimated the physical size of this model too - it genuinely dwarfs any other AoS model I own and is taller than my plastic Imperial Knights. I think I got up to 7 or 8 separate kits that's been used for this... The chest armour, chair and vampire have all been left as separate models - in fact the vampire is three pieces as I've left the cloak and weapon separate so that I can actually go to town on the armour.
  9. Blimey - long time here with no update! Hopefully you'll all be pleased to hear that I've almost finished my monumental zombie dragon conversion... Tiny bit more filling required and should get a photo up in the next day or so!!!
  10. I can only speak for myself, but when I was talking about when I started, I was trying to put a bit of context that things are better than they used to be. I don't actually think anybody in this thread has said that the removal of downloadable warscrolls is a good move either? This is where I do become a bit torn. I do view GW as being part of "the hobby" rather than being the hobby so to speak. The trouble is that (at least in my eyes) GW produces some of the nicest miniatures on the market. Whenever I've touched other companies, I've always come away feeling a bit disappointed from the experience. The miniatures aren't quite as crisp, or are horribly fiddly or the game isn't popular or so complicated you need to have a doctorate to understand it. It's resulted in me pretty much sticking to GW for most of the miniatures I purchase because although I may pay a high premium, I know that I'm less likely to be disappointed. Trouble is that with GW the size it is, it's going to take something remarkable to throw in some legitimate competition, so GW can largely get away with things that others couldn't. The exception to this though is hobby "materials" - so paints, tools, etc, my collection is filled with non-GW products that I've picked up over the years, many of which are simply better than what GW offered (if at all). Where GW benefits is by having a rock solid distribution network - I know I can pick up a can of black spray in my local toyshop on my way home. I will also throw in that I'm aware I'm in a bit of a minority in that I'm a "miniature" first person rather than "game" first 😉 Not sure they've binned many from the last 5 or so years? My only gripe along this line is the few they've got rid of for their limited ed models that got removed within a year (am looking at you Guardian of Souls!)
  11. If I'm honest, I think the hobby has always been expensive*. I cast my mind back to when I started and I think my first purchase set me back £15 for a box of Space Wolves Terminators (the metal ones - we're talking around the time you were born) with £10 worth of paint. That was a monumental amount of money for me at the time. What I think is different now is that we're bombarded with "net lists", "must haves" and limited edition releases. If a new hobbyist asks "what do I need to start" many answers will include the generals handbook, rulebook, battletomes, thirty different paints, play mats, custom dice and all sorts. When I started I literally had White Dwarf and my imagination 🤣 I used free rulesets in WD to play with my mates and made stuff up - I'd been in the hobby probably a couple of years before I actually got a copy of the 40k rules, but had been playing with my models for ages. Coming full circle, I do think it's important that we're all aware of accessibility to the hobby for new (and old) hobbyists. GW will always produce curve balls like removing downloadable warscrolls, but on the other hand we as the "old hands" need to make sure the advice we're giving out doesn't switch new hobbyists off. Let's make sure we continue to give out good advice and focus on the positive parts of the hobby. * though it's far from the most expensive!
  12. The 40k app didn't require a subscription to access your codex rules. The sub just unlocked the army builder element. No idea if this is still the format they're taking going forward though.
  13. Make sure you're feeding all the bugs back through the survey form Gaz posted in an earlier reply. App is only in Beta so if we don't feed the bugs back they won't get fixed.
  14. We're getting wildly off-topic now, so don't want to continue this much more. What I do want to say is that any person who does something for hundreds of hours will naturally be more proficient at that task. I've played against AoS players (non-GW staff) in events who have an equally high level of understanding of the rules as Andy did with Necro (his mate was equally as good). Not particularly impressed that you've turned my comment about somebodies proficiency at playing into a cheap dig at GW's rule process.
  15. I think Necromunda has turned into a much more sandboxy game than most people anticipate/want. I've been a die hard fan of Necro since '95 and the group I game with are really used to working out oddball rules and house ruling. Certainly not balanced with some gangs being significantly better/worse than others and would 100% say you need to play it with friends rather than randomers 🤣 I was fortunate to watch Andy Hoare and a friend of his playing a game at WHW once and it was really fast paced and didn't feel clunky - but Andy's in charge of SG and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules.
  16. Think @Loyal Son of Khemri was talking about Warcry and not Underworlds. Underworlds was always intended as a competitive board game (hence push fit, deck building & seasons). Warcry currently sits in a bit of a weird place as it has the potential to become more like Necromunda but doesn't have the same level of customisation or background. Ultimately I think there's a demand for a more Mordheim style game but set within AoS. What makes Necromunda work well is that the gangs within them aren't plucked straight from armies - they're (on the whole) fairly low level humans with little military training. That's a lot more difficult to achieve currently in AoS though, which is by it's nature far more fantastical with less background.
  17. +++ MOD HAT +++ Just moved this into the Soulblight area of TGA as you'll likely get more focused responses
  18. +++ MOD HAT +++ Gentle nudge back onto rumours please folks - feel the past page or so has gone off at a bit of a tangent!
  19. One of the other reasons for releasing something as an open beta is it's almost impossible to test something like this on every available device going. It means that if something major flags up, people are less likely to rant and rave on social media. I've done it myself with various tools that I've written and it just helps to manage expectations and reduce disappointment.
  20. There's quite a few variables involved because army composition can vary a huge amount. It's generally been accepted that the army with the lowest cost entry is Beastclaw Raiders because you only need to pick up a few start collecting boxes for it. FEC is probably one of the next armies for the same reason. Beyond that things tend to get a little more difficult because you gain less benefit from having multiples of the same unit. I suppose the real question is are you looking for the most cost effective army to put on the tabletop, or are you doing this for some other reason?
  21. Absolutely! The most direct email would be aosfaq@gwplc.com - in the past they've asked for any FAQs, or feedback relating to AoS to be sent there Think it was a different thread, but my own view is I'd love to see the rules and background/lore elements separated into two components. That way the actual hardbacked book never goes out of date and you've an instantly more portable booklet of rules. GW could then decide how to sell/give away each component so you wouldn't turn a profitable part of the business into an overhead.
  22. This depends entirely upon by what you mean by "rules". If you mean warscrolls and the core rules - absolutely. If you mean battletomes then I'd disagree because GW employs staff specifically to create very high production quality books. If GW did decide to make battletomes/army rules free then I'd expect to see a drop in quality and less financial investment in them - very few companies can justify an entire team of staff to produce free content. In short - no, we don't know 100% for sure this is going to happen - it's largely been a calculated assumption that's been fuelled by lack of comment from GW.
  23. As @micahaphone says, in the vast majority of cases you get to pick the model you're allocating wounds to, so you can keep your champion or trumpet blower alive for a lot longer. Quite often you'll also have other opportunities to bring a unit back into coherency before the battleshock phase too. The pile in move is a good example of this, as a unit that's charged or within 3" of an enemy normally can make a 3" pile in move when they're activated to attack, allowing you to just close that gap up a little bit 😊
