So I have been looking into how the five foxes list is supposed to win. The piece of the puzzle that was missing for me before is this:

Instead of hanging around outside of melee range the whole game, the foxes are supposed to charge your guys and pin them in. Their Helon "pile-in in any direction" shenennigans and "reduce pile-in distance by 2" keep them mostly safe from melee damage. And then they move out of combat with their "move in the shooting phase" ability on your turn before you get to really hit them back.

It seems to me that Gravelords are still in a fairly good position here, though. We have enough 6" pile in available to negate that part of the strategy. Blood Knights get their Riders of Ruin, so they can't easily be pinned. Big monsters like the VLoZD are fast enough to retreat out of combat and still get where they need to go (possibly capturing for 14 models in Vyrkos). Gravesite deployment makes it easier to start further up the board.

Overall, I think Gravelords are in a good place to combat the fox spam list, especially for a melee army.

Played the five fox army at the weekend and they were used to charge in / retreat 2.9” away and reduce my pile in to 1” so I couldn’t get into melee.

Won by ignoring them, taking out his battle line and playing tactics and objectives.

They can’t touch 2+ saves healing and I was running two dragons and Manny. They had a very low model count for objectives as did I but I had monsters.

@Warbossironteef if you mean what I think you mean you aren't correct. Units benefit from the buff when they are wholly within 12 of manny. If they are ww 12 during the hero phase but are not ww 12 during the combat phase they get no buff. Similarly, if they are not ww 12 in the hero phase but are ww 12 during the combat phase they do. Basically, when the unit fights it gets the benefit if ww 12 of manny regardless of where they were when the ability was used. This is explicitly clarified in the core rules FAQ.

That’s great and what I was asking.

    Thanks

  3. I have a question regarding Mannys command ability.

It is triggered in the hero phase and has a bubble of 12”.
Does this mean that everyone in the bubble in the hero phase gains the buff or is the buff bubble measured in the combat phase when the buff would take effect but has to be triggered in the hero phase.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks

Effect can be applied at hero phase (yours or enemy's) in both cases next combat phase (not f.ex. "yours combat phase", it's literally just next combat phase, it cares not for who's comabt turn it is) will happen before battleshock phase.

I think you are right as well, looking at it again. That’s makes it no where near as good as I thought. Will stop unleash hell or movement commands. Thanks

There maybe a couple of heads, some of the arms and the coffin remains. Not sure how they will fit with the scale of the ghouls

I am running in Vyrkos the following

    Prince V

    VLOZD General

    Radakur the wolf

    Manny

    10 x wolves

    10 x wolves

    10 x wolves

    10 x wolves

    Palisade

Not optimal but I like it 😎

  6. With regards to traits and enhancements I probably won’t get any additional enhancements due to having two regiment battalions only. Does this mean I can choose from the universal lists for spells/ artefacts etc by dropping the battle tomb version?

Sureheart is strictly better, since +3 is worth much more than reroll. However, command points have a significant opportunity cost.

You can use Surehearts ability multiple times. If you use it 3 times for +9" charge you have a guaranteed charge out of Scions.

...assuming your army has the HAMMERS OF SIGMAR keyword :P

Another quick query. If I drop a unit of paladins along with Gavriel can he use his CA in turn one to help the charge from 9" away as he wasn't on the table during the hero phase.

Exactly, it's free now. It's also the only way to get 1 Gryph Hound into your list (well him and the Veritant)

Thats great. Thanks for the quick reply.

I know that its already been said but think that the change to the starsouls should have made a points difference to my retributors.  That said on masse they still walk through units but tou have to get them attacking first.
