  1. Cool cool! Have you played any games using these cards?
  2. Woh I’m loving the dark AoS campaign system on the last link! So much flavor!
  3. I recently played a first game with my girlfriend too and I’d recommend playing objectives - we went with just kill the other army and it din’t feel as fun. As others have said I’d leave out allegiance abilities and the like to focus on the basics. Also be sure to really know the rules well, I’m not very experienced so it was hard to keep the flow of the game going while making sure I didn’t forget anything and looking up the unit stats etc.
  4. Love the scenery and the fluff! Is the tower scratch built?
  5. At some point I’d like to do 4 small warbands (underworlds sized) for each of the chaos gods, but played againt type ; -Khorne would be some aristocratic duellists with rapiers or daggers. They could be based on eldar harlequins for instance -Nurgle would be some plague doctors type figures, very clean and uncorrupted. Maybe syringes and potions to represent them inoculating their victims with various plagues -Tzeentch would be fat, stupid warriors with heavy hammers and the like. Muted grey tones, maybe bird heads in naturalistic colors. Rusted pieces of armor, dented weapons. -Slaanesh would be muscular mutants, gone completely mad from excess, with spikes driven through their flesh, eyes gouged, howling mouths and the like, hardcore mutilations and crude tattoos Typing this out I realize I still have to perfect the concepts, I’m very open to suggestions
  6. My dream / next army project would be a Grand Alliance Chaos army that’s built as a mirror of free peoples. Basically a medieval dark fantasy army with demigryph knights, spearmen, various mutants. Not over the top slaves to darkness but people who worship chaos as a traditional pantheon, have castles, towns etc.
  7. @Dr Ben those are some great ideas! Looking at mental disorders could be a very useful source of information, I’ll be sure to dig around. I agree that the ability to have your own small setting separate from the main plot is one of the great things about AoS. If you want to check out the thread I started on the narrative forum, I wrote a short story exploring the ideas discussed here. TL;DR is that some of the stormcast are starting to see the humanity loss from reforging as a blessing instead of a curse. The idea that they would report their delusional version of what is going on to azyr is really good, I think I’ll include it in the plot.
  8. Yeah I wouldn’t expect anything like a corrupt stormcast faction, but maybe something akin to the legion of the damned in 40k - a rogue stormhost that pops out of nowhere and kills everyone in pursuit of a supreme goal. Maybe just some optional rules, maybe a special unit... I don’t know what would happen to stormcast who actually reject Sigmar since he’s the one reforging them and they’re actually imbued with his very essence. But it could be interesting to see how fallen stormcast embody Sigmar’s darker side. Not the heavenly king that builds cities and protects free people, but the eternal being who sees the lives of mortals as a small cost in his war against the dark gods.
  9. @Gaz Taylor thank you. They definitely have been hinting at the potential downfall of stormcasts for a while. I’d expect it to affect the various stormhosts differently, unless they end up doing some kind of primaris-style reboot, with new re-reforged stormcast better protected againt degenerescence. I’ve started a thread on the narrative forum about my stormhost, with a short story that touches on this reforging problem, if you’re interested in checking it out!
  10. Hmmm interesting. Yeah that’s good to know, I can picture a stormhost that has been mostly wiped out on the front lines, but because there’s such a delay to reforging the survivors are stuck in low numbers, trying to impose order on regions that have low strategic value in the big picture...
  11. Thanks, I’ve looked them up and they seem to fit the bill. I’m doing my own stormhost but they show that there’s a place in the lore for radical stormcast. I guess the stormhosts are pretty autonomous!
  12. I’ve started the assembly / basing step of my gryphounds. I was able to do some headswaps but if I want to do a bigger pack I may have to convert some to avoid having too many duplicates, as the box already has only 3 different poses. Can’t wait to be done with the prep work and slap some paint on those good boys!
  13. This is a call to lore enthusiasts! I am designing a small narrative campaign based around stormcast vs nighthaunt (for now) I have a good idea of the setting : secluded moutains somewhere in the realm of fire. The chaos armies have been mostly driven back and Sigmar’s main forces moved on. A small contingent of stormcast and freeguild were left there to eradicate the last traces of chaos. But the endless circle of war and reforging has radicalized the stormcast and they see chaos everywhere. They have turned into an inquisition of sorts, executng people for te slightest misstep. The repression has taken a heavy toll on the local population, and their dead have started to rise... So here’s my question (finally) : How independant are stormcasts? I know some of them get pretty strange after a couple reforgings, but would they be allowed to keep coming back to a place they are oppressing? Wouldn’t the guys in azyr lock them up or give them different orders after a while? Or are the stormhosts able to pursue their goals as they see fit, without interference from a higher authority? Maybe it would be better for this story if some kind of magical interference kept them stuck without access to reforging, their numbers dwindling, slowly going mad? What’s your take on it? I’m sorry if the question isn’t completely clear, if you have any question or feedback about what I’ve written please say it I’m also interested in any bit of lore that you feel is interesting / relevant for this setting
  14. I just managed to finish my march goal of 1 knight incantor and gryphound. I really liked painting the beast, and that’s good because I bought a box and have another 6 of them. I really like the idea of a hunting pack of gryphounds. so for this month I pledge : -build, base and paint 6 gryphounds. And as a stretch I’ll add these goals : -texture and paint my 4*3 board so I can start playing some real games -build and base my 30 or so brettonian men at arms, able to assist and worship my small stormcast warband 🤓
  15. This is a great idea, and your cards are pretty cool. I may do something similar, way nicer than going through books
  16. Yeah I like your idea @Overread but there are symbols who seem to be IDK, DoK that don’t have underworlds warbands
  17. I understand your concern. I was all for a chaos only game too, maybe expanded on later. On the other hand it seems like a big shift to decide to release 9 more warbands totally unplanned, it's entirely possible that this was part of the project from the start. I guess we'll know later!
  18. Personally I'm pretty hyped, and a bit surprised how few people seem to be. The "chaos-only" game just announced 9 more non-chaos factions! Surely there will be a way to use those as the start of an aos army right? I guess on the internet it's mostly unhappy people that speak up. Even if they did make brand new minis for each faction, you'd have people disappointed because they really really hoped for tomb kings 😂
  19. I agree that while my first skirmish games were not very tactically rich, playing on a board full of terrain with painted minis was still a blast. I think since I’m really into the hobby part, the game is the moment where all that work comes together so it can be really satisfying even when the balance is kinda wonky. I see how it could be really disappointing for more strategy-oriented people though...
  20. Very interesting analysis, and I agree with your point on skirmish.
  21. Due to my restricted collection (storm strike box set + a couple minis) the few games I have played were small skirmishes around 250 points I think. The games does feel limited at that size but I plan to grow to around 750. But my focus is narrative gaming so I don’t really care about GHB guidelines or my « standing with the community ». I don’t see how playing with just the core rules could be called houseruling or homebrewing 😂
  22. I personnally love the concept, as it harkens back to realm of chaos, and small warbands instead of huge legions of ultra evil armored guys. I get why people who don’t like chaos are disappointed, although the teasers already hinted heavily at that kind of setting. If I wasn’t into chaos I would just use proxies of whatever army I like, shouldn’t be that hard
  23. personnally I’m pretty excited about this. The models looks characterful, the terrain looks good and like it would integrate well with scratch-built stuff. I was hoping for a real AoS skirmish campaign game but I love the Realms Of Chaos aesthetic they are going for. My main hope is that there will be a decent campaign system and that the game won’t be too hard to homebrew. I think GW are in a tight spot with these kind of games : some people want tight matched play rulesets for pickup games and tournaments, some people want freeform aos campaign skirmish, some want new models and some want to be able to play their old WHF minis, some people want it simple and some want it customizable... and obviously the bosses want to sell a ton of them 😂 so as long as it’s fun to play I’ll be houseruling and kitbashing in my living room. At least it’s a great occasion to build crazy chaos scenery; might have to get that skulls box...
  24. Really nice! Love the eye pieces What software are you using?
  25. I don’t often read people’s fluff but I loved this! It’s an interesting take on the skaven with a lot of possibilities. And the models are top notch. I can’t imagine painting that many models!
