It also allows them to write their own narrative with the Idoneth. We don't know the characters much at all yet, but they're intriguing. I would say however, if you weren't a fan of the darker side of fantasies elves, the Idoneth aren't for you.

I am very curious as to their rules and book in general now ,to get a gist of how the army will actually operate. Definitely nothing to be disappointed about though, not having Teclis makes heaps of sense, and I honestly expect us to see Tyrion and Teclis released together, they're more of a unit in AoS than ever before.

Didn't see white dwarf confirming the kits, disregard me, agreed probably meant alternative builds.
-
We still know their are kits we have not been shown, there are surprises to come.

If only GW saw sense and did the new starter set idoneth vs the new death army. They would make an absolute killing. Too bad its gonna be stormcast.
To be fair, my local GW manager described it thusly: Stormcast sells. They make GW money, this can then be applied to making more models for other ranges. The DoK was only three kits, but thats a considerable load of money on just tooling. Then think how many kits are coming for the Deepkin. I don't like it as much as you do, but if it means we get shinies sooner, fine.

I don't know almost anything about lore and don't know who's Mathlann, I think I read it was an ancient god and that the surfer guy is Mathlann's Avatar. That sounds great but if Teclis was truly who created the idoneth, doesn't matter if he passed away and went creating high elves next because now as the text says he reclaimed that souls and took them to be his teacher, and if he took so much effort on searching for light inside those souls I think he would not let them away for second time.
It will be very curious if somehow Mathlann is actually returned, or is being reborn by the Idoneth, Mathlann in the world that was is portrayed as the King of Sea and Storm, a destructive force striking without mercy. He was not worshipped so widely in Ulthuan, but very much so by Dark Elves, predominantly Corsairs. A good example from recent times would be in Total War: Warhammer 2, to create a Black Ark as teh Dark Elf factions, you have to undertake a sacrifice to Mathlann.
He is not a nice god, and therefore we should be prepared for the rest of the Idoneth fluff to be very dark.

Any chance anyone can make out what that picture with all the heroes on says? Can't make it out on phone (also having to turn my head)

What I found interesting in the scenery leaks is the one with several packs of ruins also had aos objective markers. Which aos doesn't yet have.

I think the flying beasts actually work due to the sense of motion every mini in the range has. There is something flowing in every one.
-
Just wondering, why do people think there are three Eidolon builds? The photo only contains two, the single miniature image is of the one at the front.

I would argue it is coincidence, it is the most stereotypical "under the sea" colour palette, it was to be expected. I wouldn't go bandying around ideas like porting dark eldar, as in the Idoneth thread in general, it is dismissive of the creative talent in making this range.
That said, I love Drukhari, so it's neither here nor there. This month is going to be great!

What I really don't want is the removal of damage carrying over from one attack to multiple models. If my megaboss has a huge axe doing two damage, it simply goes through one guy and takes out the other. The armour save represents them both. Makes sense to me.

Black Coach in Legions of Nagash is Death, Malignant, Nighthaunt, Hero, Black Coach. It's not Soulblight.
Weird Death isn't really my thing, but it's always been vampire transportation I thought? Didn't the metal one come with a vampire in the coffin?
-
I feel like I should point out that the black coach itself would not be night haunt. It may have a nighthaunt variant, but a black coach would be firmly soulblight.

Hummmm... “They dont make friends well”... probably they will have a very restrictive allies list...
I imagine it will be similar to DoK, they haven't got many either. I expect most Dark Aelf factions, and stormcast. Their background suggests no High Aelf allies.

I’d love to take the job. Based on where it would be located though. My wife will make me pass if it’s outside of Texas (her job restrictions)
Hey, you probably would like the change to a cold and wet climate then right?

Even things that are very recognisable as real animals like the arachnarok and stegadon tend to be very exaggerated and I'm not getting that same creativity and that sense of the truly fantastical with the turtle. It's just a turtle. Not to mention the fact that these are the Deepkin, and the deep oceans are chock-full of absolutely mind-boggling creatures that could have been used to great effect in a fantasy setting, rather than a turtle.
Firstly, personally don't get it. I love my arachnarok, but the turtle is exactly the same. If anything it is more original, the arachnarok has no differences from a real spider. As someone who loves turtles, the Deepkin's turtle has quite a few differences. For starters, turtle's don't have dinosaur heads.
Secondly, I totally agree on deep sea creatures. They're rad. But an army needs an immediately recognisable aesthetic. Unfortunately, the stranger you get, the less people will recognise them as being inspired by a real creature.
I can see the argument of the silhouettes of the models borrowing from or being inspired by current ranges, but it gives a sense of continuity between aos and 40K that I don't think is a bad thing. It is more conversion opportunities, which opens up sales options. Two aelves riding one creature with a ranged weapon, sure, is similar to the harlequins. But then, there are also two ogors riding a creature with a ranged weapon so...
I personally see the eels and think asian dragon first, due to their heads. So flying serpentine creature doesn't bother me at all.
I am interested in seeing the rest of the range, and also how they will play before jumping in. But I have been after something to scratch my Dark Elf itch, and 40K can only do that so well.

I am curious as to what skills and experience is necessary for the positions, as it is something that's not listed. Just seems a bit like groping in the dark writing an application otherwise. Don't think I'm a good enough painter anyway ?
-
I think I can see why people want the lore to know how they're all flying. But it doesn't bother me so much, maybe because I like DoT and they have discs and screamers.
-
Really interested, the deepkin might be the right fit for me, but I am interested to see rules. The infantry are the least inspiring but I wouldn't call them bad. If they can run all mounted except characters that would be intriguing, also who their allies are. Wouldn't mind grabbing some cold one knights or a hydra to join them.
Really happy to see dark elves on made to order, some bits I want to just collect even if I don't use them.
Fingers crossed the magic changes will be a magic table to choose spells from for those that don't have one, destruction sorely needs it.

The rumor is that the Deepkin comes form the sunken Island of Idoneth in Hyish.
But then they were sighted in Ghyran (cf. DoK Battletome) and in Ghur (according to the FB teasing at least).
It's safe to bet they'll have, like every other armies, access to Realmgates (maybe linked to mists and water)
Considering we know realmgates can be anywhere and anything (some undetectable), I imagine there are plenty on the seabed. Sea monsters gotta get to other realms from ghur somehow ?

Having seen them, it's not so much a different sprue, it's actually more like an extension of the sprue found on the standard kit - it has the same ruins then the new long bits on the same sprue.
-
I think the Idoneth's behaviour makes it better to think of them as AOS' Wood Elves. They're capricious, neutral. Yes, nothing to do with Alarielle, but they aren't the good aelves or the bad aelves.
-
Still after info on the AOS RPG system they apparently released yesterday.

I totally agree. I am a big fan of the tragedy of the Eldar in 40k, and the different ways their civilisations went. I'm glad games workshop are considering something similar in aos, with the idoneth forming a less sadistic, more modern drukhari.
