So once-per-game Thunderbolt Volley has been nerfhammered, but 15 Blood Stalkers shooting in hero phase every turn has been completely untouched? Is there something I am missing?

DoK is probably too recent a book to be changed in any real way. Recent books seem to evade the update dance for 6 months at least.

So I am new to this game, but do the points changes seem tame across the board? Do a 5 or 10 point increase really change list building for 2000 point games? I really do not know!!

Like I always figure constant point changes allows GW to shake up the meta and try new things. Especially since they do this every 6 months and can always reverse the changes.

I come from Star Wars Legion and while the point changes were mostly tame they often looked at the least taken units and just buffed the ****** out of them for six months lol.

You really are new here... :D

If the points are way off for a model, it takes several updates until they are at a somewhat correct value. And that's if GW is feeling brazen. I think Manfred von Carstein still holds the record for dropping from 440 or so to 320p in 20p increments since they started doing these updates (when it was still Legions of Nagash) :D

I think this GHB season is going to be a lot more nuanced than what people initially expect. There are going to be a multitude of factors at play in every game. I don't think anyone can predict how it's going to pan out until we're at least a few months into it.

Which is why 6-month seasons is a terrible idea GW.

This. If they are going to be doing a 180 every 6 months on what type of unit you should be spamming, that's tedious on it's own. I think they are just trying to mimic computer game style seasons somehow... but that just doesn't work in a game where painting and assembly takes as long as it does imo.

  4. Sad day for the Skaven players... Those 20 year old kits are getting stretched for a little while longer with the minimal effort a faction gets these days (book + a single foot hero).

Sylvaneth expansion did seem interesting to me. It's good to see that faction fleshed out more and I for one, don't mind that it's more towards the elf + insect side.

Chaos tease is just to remove the bad aftertaste of potato cam pictures recently? :D

  5. Honestly... If I'm paying a subscription model for the app, I would at least expect to have access to all the rules of the game at all times.

If you want to play any form of competitive game (this needn't mean hardcore... Just a competitive game), the player should be informed about both the abilities of his own army and be generally knowledgeable about his opponents armies. I absolutely hate playing "gotcha hammer" (both when I 100% catch an opponent off-guard due to him not knowing my armies rules and vice versa).

So far there are only really two dud warcrolls, which are sadly the two new ones: The Craventhrone Guard and Scriptor. The former don't have a well-defined role, the latter just seems a bit too swingy to be really good.

Everything else, I think, could easily be good with the right allegiance abilities or point drops. Plus, nothing is even known about the majority of the warscrolls in the army. Maybe Grimghasts are super good now, who knows?

I would disagree with that... The Bladegheist revenants are now effectively filling a similar role as the dreadscythe harridans, only with a worse warscroll compared to the one very recently updated. That makes them a dud as well (so far of course).

And yeah, we'll have to wait and see what those allegiance abilities are of course. The only thing to go on for now, are the updated or new warscrolls. And barring the myrmourn banshees, they don't paint a pretty pictures sadly. The Bladegheist have been straight up nerfed in their warscroll... no doubt about that right there... And they are "in competition" with other similar infantry from an internal balance point.

So my observation is related.  A theme I notice for 3.0 is that most units are "meh" on their warscroll, and their allegiances are what bring them to a good level.  Even IF the NH book makes the Crossboos decent through allegiance abilities, their warscroll is still not that great.

It discourages allying different factions quite heavily, which is something I love to do.  It is actually why my Death armies grew the way they have.  I was able to grow my collection in any way I wanted, and I knew they could work together at least decently.  It is actually something I would love to go back to, I actually have a Path to Glory coming up where I am taking Soulblight simply because they have a territory they can take that lets them share the Soulblight Keyword with Nighthaunt and Flesh Eater allies.

Amazing allegiance abilities might elevate a terrible warscroll to... average at best.

As somebody with a large death factions in general, this is not good for me personally... but I would rather not be living in 40k 8th edition "soup-nonsense".

That being said... With those warscrolls, those allegiance abilities better be straight up amazing! Or this faction is condemned to another 4 years of bottom of the barrel armies (barring a brief exploit with Nagash and a ton of Grimghast reapers in 2018).

  8. "Every one of these warscrolls took a serious hit, even those bumped up in other ways, and everything staying the same points feels like a sick, Nagash-level joke at this point."

That goonhammer summary of the rules preview pretty much nails it. Time to learn to live with the fact that we got bin guy again... And this time, he seems to revel in kicking armies that are already down.

That's not to say that AoS isn't or is in a bad state, but I think that it's in a 'fine' state from a casual perspective. However, personally, I think it can feel frustratingly shallow at the moment when you try to get more deeply involved in the game.

I think it's 100% the opposite of this.

In our smaller, casual gaming group of 6 active players and some who play incredibly sporadic, the army spread is such that player A's army will brutalize player B's army almost every time, while losing to player C. AoS balancing seems to largely boil down to bad matchups limiting certain factions or making some flourish in the meta.

Our LRL player is already sick and tired of the new deepkin for instance and why wouldn't he be... That book  just seems to be written to hard counter his army... And that's absolutely poisonous to smaller casual communities of just some mates getting together for a game. It'll look ok in win-rates in meta data probably, but it blows chunks if you have regular opponents.

  10. If you think these are going to be 70p, I think you are being optimistic. It would not surprise me if they were to slap a 100p tag on this.

But man, what a disappointing set of rules coming out of the new NH previews. Another 5W hero with high probability of doing nothing and now there's finally a shooting unit in the death range and it hits like a wet noodle. :(

Guess that new FOMO box doesn't include too many cool rules that you will be missing out on if you decide to skip it at least.... :D

In this regard, by going outside of GW my hobby experience is the best its ever been. Not because I hate GW but because with multiple perspectives you learn to appreciate each system for what they are. In fact, the main reason GW frustrates me comes down to their business practices. Sure, there are things I want to see improved but every system got their own type of jank and pros/cons.

    100% this.

I mentioned this before in this thread, but our local gaming group spread out a bit and started playing the new editions of Dystopian Wars from Warcradle studios... Also, very much a "luxury product", but one that has:

    - amazing new high quality plastic kits (with some resin (main) parts for their models if you don't need many of them)
    - free "codexes/battletomes" for all factions that are regularly updated
    - those free "codexes/battletomes" come with a printer friendly version for those who don't like playing with digital documents.
    - no powercreep as all those "codexes/battletomes" get updated at the same time in waves.
    - a warning that you shouldn't print them straight away, as things are bound to change as the community spots mistakes/gives feedback
    - All recent rules changes compared to the previous version are in red font so you can spot the differences straight away if you already were quite familiar with the previous rules.
    - Beta rules included for all models they expect to release in the next 6 months, just so players can start doing an open beta and send in feedback should they so desire.
    - The actual rules developers being active on forums and different channels (like FB groups) to both answer common questions and discuss feedback with the playerbase.

It's absolutely amazing to see how a small company absolutely nails keeping their game up to date... Even if they do make a deliberate choice every now and again that you don't agree with or would like to see changed.

And we still play AoS games now, because all of these points don't make us hate GW! It just makes us wish the big company could make a few changes geared towards consumers instead of share holders... But that doesn't mean we completely stopped playing GW games, it just made us broaden our horizons. And that's something I think the wargaming hobby could do with a bit more often.

What gives you that idea? I understood it more as GW not making the commitment anymore to keep those rotation models in production at all times. So I would assume they will do something like a production run of only some of those models every month/few months and just keep them as a web store exclusive until they sell out. I don't see a reason to assume they would actively destroy models.I

Isn't this how things work in 30k and LotR, anyway?

Yeah exactly... That's why I find the whole "they are doing this to clear up some shelf space" argument very unlikely.

If that were the case, you would have to actively destroy any remaining stock. And then the heads-up would be very much appreciated... But that situation feels very unlikely to me. So I'm guessing it's more about abusing a certain FOMO element to sell off some unwanted stock (to people who wouldn't have considered purchasing the model in the first place) because now they are afraid of never getting their hands on a model (that, let's be honest, is very likely to end up in a pile of shame somewhere...)

  13. I really do wonder how things will go "behind closed  doors" with these new product rotations".

Are they really planning on destroying a bunch of older models to clear out shelf space? If so, the heads up is nice...

... But then they announce that they will return when it makes sense for campaign products (in other words, when there's some hype).

Are they really going to be remaking those older products that were destroyed? I mean... They could! Model production costs pennies. Or is it all just another way to weaponize FOMO in hopes  to just sell out almost all existing old stock of product that are almost out of stock anyway?

  14. The constant price hikes, excessive amounts of books for (often minor) rules updates and speed at which they become obsolete has had a serious impact on our local community at  least in the last few months.

We've just played our first AoS game as a group again in about 11 months. Not because we weren't allowed to play together... (We have played quite a few games from other companies) but mostly because there's more and more complaints about how things were going.

It might be different to others of course, but increasing prices while making record profits and while everybody is hurting from higher bills in general, felt very tone-deaf. It's not going to affect my purchasing habits too much though: I was already in a "just finish your backlog while sourcing rules alsewhere" mode for GW in general.

  15. I have been playing for over 2 decades and not once have I ever heard anybody complaining about the quality of a paintjob or the fact that an army isn't finished. Maybe I'm lucky enough to live in an area where people are just extremely polite... or it's just a bit of an overblown issue?

I pretty much only field painted armies, but I would never expect my opponent to have that level of patience before they field their troops.

There have been comments in nearly every related thread on this forum, including an entire thread of it's own telling people not to sign up due to lack of content, plus a lot of the comments on GW official instragram posts are really negative about it.

This forum seems to have a varied set of views, some enjoying it, some holding off to see if it improves and some really against it.

I don't follow GW in any other channels/forums/reddit/etc but to say they haven't faced a large amount of criticism would be false.

Oh yeah, I agree that there's a lot of criticism over it from the general public. I was specifically talking about the more well known influencers out there on Youtube, Twitter or such, not really talking about how little content there actually is in this subscription.

  17. How many animations are on this platform and how long are they? Is it really just 34 minutes of painting videos and 2 hours of battle reports and however long the lore videos are? Along with 10 fairly recent White Dwarf episodes?

I've not heard anybody mention that there is a ton of content so far and this is with them prepping several weeks or maybe months to get to this point? How are people expecting a lot of content to be added every week? This WH+ seems to be carried entirely by the same presenters who are also expected to Twitch stream several evenings per week... I love that crew, but they already seem overworked by the company even without WH+ being a thing. I really can't see this service ever becoming a tidalwave of new content.

This, along with no AoS app at all at launch, is almost laughable... Any other medium or game would be slammed non-stop over this type of launch, but it seems the usual influencers are absolutely foaming at the mouth for anything Warhammer it seems.

  18. Yeah, you can't expect them to throw in a ton of animation content as an amazon or a Netflix at all. So that is a bit much to ask.

You know what content they do have loads of and will make loads of in the near future: their rules...

If WH+ would be a guarantee that I can stay up to date with all the rules in the game I'm playing, for a £5 subscription, I'd actually be pretty happy about it. And it wouldn't mean I would stop buying the books I actually wanted... But it would be nice to be informed about other army's rules as well. "Gotchahammer" because you spring some rule on your opponent he never even heard about, is not really a fun game.

And before people start complaining that it's unreasonable to ask for that much content for your £5 sub:
    - It's £5/month more than virtually every other wargaming company asks for their rules... Expand your horizons a bit.
    - It STILL wouldn't be anywhere near the amount of content other streaming platforms have for that kind of money.

    - Sure, you can get Battle Reports and painting videos elsewhere, but I'm rolling the dice on these being better. The number of YouTubers who can't communicate well or present games poorly (unpainted, dumb as heck 12" objective markers messing up the visuals, etc.) is astounding. If GW can 'show the way' so to speak, I'm in on that.

Have you seen them unboxing something on Twitch yet? ;)
