  1. I agree with the OP... This WH+ right now is VERY light on new and exciting content. The fact that they are tossing in free gift vouchers for something "exciting" almost speaks volumes. AoS app not working on launch is not good and I've not had any good experiences with the 40k app. If you don't have a subscription or bought the actual books, it's just a glorified PDF reader for free downloadable rules for half the game... And both AoS and 40k have amazing free listbuilder alternatives, so I see very little point in paying for a (most likely very buggy) app. There are barely any animations at the start and even if they continued at 1 animation of 20/30 minutes per week, it would still take months to have a decent enough library to justify the £5/month pricetag. Got to remember that we live in a world where the entire Disney library is valued at a £8/month and virtually all the music in the world is accessible for $10. Then there are the series about painting, lore and battlereports, that are essentially YouTube video content. Older battletome PDFs will be readable for as long as they are relevant... And at the speed at which they are churning through books/supplements, this might not be relevant for very long. And then there are old White Dwarf editions... I suppose that could have some good articles in there for some people, but I often don't even fully read the ones I have purchased, so I'm not that thrilled personally about that thing either.
  2. Not a lot of painting going on right now.. Well, not models anyway, because I've been working on my wargaming basemement and painting that one. A shots of the start of my little hobby heaven: And the before shot to give you an idea of what the dankhold was like before:
  3. Hue wise, the calth clear blue is the one that matches the hue of the old guilliman blue glaze best. The finish is just a lot more glossy. This doesn't bother me too much though, as I thin it anyway (and I'll just use a matt medium for that this time around) and I always finish my models with an ultra matt varnish in the end anyway. Warhammer Community recommended a blue contrast paint, but that's definitely a different hue to the old Guilliman blue. Hope this helps!
  4. No, these were given a basecoat of Vallejo Bronze and weathered with watered down nihilax oxide. It was still shaded deeper with that army painter dark tone wash and given a silver drybrush, so the difference is there, but a bit more subtle.
  5. The armour is a bascoat of ironhands steel. The whole model received an all over Army painter dark tone wash (synthetic version, thinned with mineral spirit). After that basecoat, it got hit with a mix of matt medium and Vallejo rust pigments, some thinned nihilax oxide in places and a drybrush of steel. The metal bits were given a coat of satin varnish with a tad of army painter dark tone in the end to revive the metallics after an all over matt varnish was applied.
  6. Hey folks Time to try something different than undead armies! I really like what GW did with the Kruelboyz, even though it doesn't seem to be everybody's cup of tea. I absolutely love them though. So much so that I'm hoping to have a swamp themed terrain set for my gaming room to go alongside them in the near future. Anyway, Dominion would be the best place to start, so I got the first models to a battle ready standard: Still some things to finish on them, like the faces (quite an important bit in fact) and some extra scratches and highlights on the leather parts.
  7. I was happy to see the smallest "warrior" starter set included 10 more Gutrippaz. I think I'll be picking up a box or 2 down the line IF they don't decide to get all janky with having to add a bannerbearer and musician to the gutrippaz, forcing you to buy the regular boxes too. It seems they already did something similar with the crossbow boyz needing a unit champion only found in the multipart box?
  8. The morghast survivability wasn't stellar. As soon as those bastilladons took aim, I did lose 2 of them and the other was badly wounded. But with arkhan/katakros, the wounds hardly mattered. I wouldn't take 4 again in a single unit again though. I tried it to buff them with Katakros' +1A CA as well, but they moved too fast and ended up out of range of him too often. 3D6 charge is great though and I would still like to keep some in my army, as I don't think they are a horrible choice now at 185p. I would probably dump 2 of the harbingers, merge the two blocks to 10 mortek guard to a single block of 20 and add 5 kavalos deathriders in (more possibilities to dump RDP into as well) for added speed.
  9. The OBR did. But my opponent did not take a very hard list. He did field kroak with 5 babysitters, but not with the astrolith bearer and spellportal shennanigans. He took an engine, 2 bastilladons, 10 skinks, 10 saurus warriors and 10 saurus knights (a unit that performed surprisingly well with all their attacks coupled with 6 to wounds being mortal wounds for their pricepoint) I ran Arkhan, Katakros, 20+10+10 Mortek guard, crawler and 4 morghast harbingers for speed and reach. It did perform quite well. Never fully able to deplete my RDP, but when you generate like 10-13 each battleround, I consider that a "first world luxury problem" when you aren't bound by resources. Not being able to stack both offensive and defensive CA on mortek does hurt them for sure... But they still performed admirably and with Katakros' endless duty, you just had to choose to go defensively through shield wall or go offensive with an extra attack. It's probably not bad for the overall health of the game that it's a choice now for arguably still one of the most solid battle lines, rather than them being both anvil and blender in one unit simultaneously.
  10. Did two days of testing. One 2v2 game with three mates who hadn't played AoS all that much in AoS2 to begin with... They all pretty much said the game was a lot more complex and that wasn't always a good thing, especially to the 2 guys who mostly play 40k and always saw AoS as the more relax game. Second 2k game to test out the GHB rulespack of Seraphon vs OBR. Yes, there is more things to do, even in the enemy hero phase and it's definitely something to get used to. The game took very long (close to 4 hours) Not to sure how I feel about battle tactics. It caused some choice paralysis, dragging out the game and in the mission we played, they almost felt like they overtook the primary objectives. I'm not sure what the mission was called, but it was 3 objectives that you could only grab with heroes... And when of them got destroyed in turn 3, battle tactics almost felt too important compared to primary objectives.
  11. Tbh, with how easily Teclis was able to just dispel one of the mightiest rituals the mortal realms ever saw, it wouldn't surprise me if this Cursed Skies thing is brushed away as soons as the story progresses again.
  12. If you buy an army just for their rules, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment in the very near future. But that seems to be a thing in your gaming group. GW competitive rules are churn and burn at this stage. You might think you've bought a competitive army, but that edge can just as well be gone in less than a years time. That being said, I don't think OBR are as shafted as many seem to think they are. You'll not be spamming Mortek guard anymore, but that army still has plenty of gas in the tank if you actually consider the points changes were extremely mild on them.
  13. Oh God... They are copying the "digital rules" version of 40k... So no more easy to flick through PDF versions and having to subscribe to unlock digital versions of the books you own. I have MASSIVE 40k armies just standing around collecting dust because of how diffused and confusing the 40k rules system became. I do hope AoS doesn't fall into this trap, but I'm afraid that regressive trend already started with the broken realms books. A mate of mine suggested 40k as a game option a few days ago and it was quickly discarded because we both felt like we had no clue what the new rules even were (and just decided on a WH: UW gamenight instead, as that is a game with a reasonably clean rulesset still). 40k has sadly died out around here because of the clunky rules and accessibility of them. After the lockdown, many are already having to dust off their models after a year and a half of almost no games, only to find out you have to get a subscription model in an app to stay somewhat up to date. I'm not looking forwards to that. I know full well that it's a move to combat online piracy, but good luck stopping that... Especially if you start moving to subscription models: the thing that probably drives more people to piracy than anything else. :s
  14. Only Dominion came through though. My FLGS was only allowed to order Dominion in those 2 weeks and all other items just plain did not arrive. None of us have their GHB and I'm STILL waiting on my SBGL pre-orders from the first wave. It's still an enormous sh¨tshow after Brexit and GW still doesn't have it in order.
  15. And we just keep on trucking and adding stuff to the army!
  16. I don't feel this game needs a new edition tbh. We've not been able to game in the last year and even with Covid restrictions being reduced, there just doesn't seem to be much excitement to play AoS or 40k around here. The current problems with the game also have nothing to do with the core rules imo, but busted warscrolls/allegiance abilities causing NPE. I ordered lots of things via my FLGS and their delivery has been one colossal sh*tshow. They only box that came through was... Cursed City so far. I'm also the only local player who even bothered to order the GHB at this stage.... And I still haven't received my SBGL pre-orders from GW. I also don't feel too excited to play a game with the powercreep that's going on. There's also quite a few players locally with painted armies who have become so bad over time, that the motivation to take them out just is at an all time low. So it's not just GWs FOMO sales tactics, it's mostly their churn and burn rules release pace. People are really tired of GW "the book company".
  17. I would imagine so. The fusion of souls and bone looks amazing on the crawler and those mounts, so I hope they take that design to the max! I love the OBR, but the options for the choice are a bit limited for now.
  18. And Mir Kainan and his merry band of men are also finished! The hero looked amazing, but I was even more enamored with the archer... God I hope this army gets archers and chariots... I do hope they just push forwards with Nagash recreating the tomb kings as his ultimate fighting force... It would be such an AoS move to do!
  19. My FEC: New monsterrules are awesome from grisstlegore, but only a single trigger on 6 means the terrorgheist is now a less obvious choice to a zombie dragon imo. Flayers and horrors in a very rough spot now. SBGL: will be fine. Was written with the new edition in mind. I can see bloodknights causing a lot of teeth gnashing in the near future. OBR: wait for the FAQ of course, but a lot of funky new mechanics are generic CA abilities and they can't use them... Mortek guard are some of the strongest infantry in the game now I think (with 25mm bases as "hidden stat" and battleline for triple units), so they'll still remain strong. My NH: army heavily reliant on 32mm based infantry blobs and one that cannot benefit from all those juicy increases to armour saves (for now) and only a single FW model that is a monster : can't see it ending too well for them.
  20. There are also rumours some units would (and in the future maybe even could) receive a SINGLE battlefield role addition... Preventing them from being reinforced. So that could be a strong balance mechanic to prevent deathstar units too.
  21. 100% agree with this last line. 40k got dropped like a rock where I live because they reduced "rules accessability" by removing PDF format. It was pure piracy before, don't get me wrong... but at least people didn't feel like they were playing gotcha hammer before. So a lot of people ended up feeling like "I don't know what the hell is going on" with 40k rules did not help at all. People who played the armies still bought the books for their armies before... But nobody was insane enough to buy every single book they ever released, just to flick through it once and never touch again. With the perverse effect that now... zero books are being sold because people don't like playing a game half blindly.
  22. I never understood why people insist on following the matched play limitations religiously when their main priority is the narrative element... If that's what you are looking for, there is a different mode of play for you. They aren't giving up on it, it's just moved to a different mode of play.
  23. That's not true... He did change. They stripped his PRIEST keyword away now that it would actually do something...
  24. Good lord. I'm also starting to be pushed into the camp of "these rules reveals are killing my excitement more than boosting it". Shooting already divides the game into haves and have nots without the need of more out of sequence shooting. Couple this with more awkward combat formations because of the new coherency rules, no significant changes to vulnerable low wound heroes getting sniped and it's all just causing me to dread the next article. There was a lot of discussion on twitter about how the new coherency rules don't always have to mean you lose a lot of CC attacks with certain formations: Now the guy who made this, is an awesome and very positive dude who was looking for ways to make the most out of units with these new coherency rules... So all credit to him for trying... But if I'm brutally honest, I would much rather see conga lines return than to have to resort to these types of "battle formations" to max out close combat attacks. Conga lines looked silly, but not nearly as daft as this kind of thing.
