  1. Thank you very much! I think I have never gotten to read such a fine explanation regarding the uses of that type of unit. I just saw "dogs are good", but I can finally understand why. Thanks a lot for all this advices! I totally agree about the black knights, even if they have a role, that one seems so sad for them. The wight king on horse is a lovely model, but I have seen that is not considered particularly useful (and I can see why), so maybe could be replaced with a necromancer and free more points for moving chaff. I think I have models to fulfill that role on my collection and can be a good excuse to get some wolfs for my imminent dip into vyrkos. I really like this faction, and find that every dynasty has so much to offer (even the weakest seem full of character). As I come from trying to play Mortal Khorne, this is a huge change. I think I have many options!
  2. Hi! How are you? Hope you all an amazing new year! Mine will be focused on starting a new army I wanted to try since the 7th edition of Warhammer Fantasy: Vampires. I want to make a Mousillion style army (I know I am not very original, but I have found out that every one of my armies so far is red, so I wanted to try something different), and was thinking about the best way to start playing with my new toys. Currently, I have purchased the following stuff: -A Flesh eater courts start collecting, so a VLoZD (could be Vhodrai) and maybe some Vargheists -the soulblight gravelords start collecting (I really wanted the whight king mini and the black knights seem like a good place to savage heads to add variety to my other skeletons) -the soulblight gravelords battleforce from last year (blood knights, 20 skellies, 40 zombies and a vengorian that got converted into a walking Lauka Vai and a vampire mounted on a big monster) -the crimsom court (not playing on official tournaments so they could perfectly be used as foot vampires if needed) -a necromancer that is missing his head but could get a new one to look around -the cursed city box, because I wanted different zombies and skeletons With all that, I think the first question would be to choose a Dynasty. Even as I think Kastellai would be the most fitting for an army focused on vampires, I think I am lacking some blood knights to make numbers and make those buffs count. Legion of Blood also seems quite tempting, as still buffs vampires but without making useless the other options. From reading this forums, it seems Vyrkos is considered one of (if not THE) best dynasty, but I do not want to focus on wolves and that stuff (I even removed the big bearskin hat from Radukar). As my local club is not very competitive, we are not much into grand strategies, headhunters and that stuff, so we tend to play for scenario objectives and the likes. With the models I have (or maybe a couple additions) what would you recommend to start testing the army? I was thinking about this, for example: Kastellai, (looking into 2000) Vhodrai, Vengorian Lord (general), Wight King 5 blood knights 40 zombies 30 skeletons 20 grave guard I have 200 points to play around. I could place Duvalle and his court, who could become monsters if getting their hands on an easy target. A necromancer would be very good to move behind my slow undead legions. Would you upgrade the vengorian into Lauka? I think she gets much more for little points, but she also loses so much from not benefitting from the dynasty. Also I should try to get into a 1500 list at some point, so I can start playing before painting SO MANY MODELS Thank you very much for everything!
  3. Hi! Regarding the stuff being discussed, I too have been playing complex games (Malifaux as the primary example) and agree that the "over complex feeling" seems to come not from the difficulty of the rules, but how disorganized those feel. In malifaux, I know from the rulebook that will be times my characters will need to "interact" and the game takes into account, making more expensive characters that are particularly good at it, etc. Every year, the details of "what do I need to do to interact properly" change, and that brings variation. On Age of Sigmar, a fun and dynamic game about amazing battles and over-the-top fantasy, the "core rules" say how I am supposed to fight and that the scenario may say what wil make me win. Needing to grab additional stuff feels like another layer over the core game (and that is exactly what it is) and sometimes does not feel particularly integrated. People have discussed that this battle tactics and stuff are here to make the game more ballanced, as it makes possible that armies that are not so powerful manage to defeat stronger opponents. That, I think, is a problem, because the answer to the imballance of the factions is found outside of the core of the game. If I want to play a "simple game", I will not have the "ballance patch", and my army will be defeated without giving me many chances (this may be my khorne mortals salt alone). AoS is a fun game, has AMAZING miniatures and lets you tell fantastic tales of combat. I enjoy it from time to time and I am really excited for any new models that may come in the future. The new ghoul king seems to be an amazing premonition to the faction, that may, at some point in the future, finally show on its models their double nature that was not there when the models were created. If new battletomes bring armies more close to each other, I will feel amazed and will keep playing. Let us enjoy this fantastic hobby!
  4. If the leader has some kind of spell, sometimes that is all that they need. It ends up being a unique spell with more wounds than a regular infantry wizard. If we started to get more buffs for other units, I think they would be fine. If the leader gave some generic aura buff for grave guards and his unit was only "more wounds" and maybe some attacks" then it would be all right.
  5. In general, I find it very difficult to justfy almost any of the Underworlds warbands on AoS. The low model count, added to the fact that they tend to be an "upgraded version" of an existing unit with flavour and cool extra stuff is nice, but as the most common ways to know if something is useful is by "how much it can tank", "how much it can kill" and "what unique stuff does it provide", they end up in a strange spot. I think that thay could fill some places in a list that has only those spare points, but I am not sure what I would use them for once on the table. The models look amazing and that is a good reason alone. Regarding the Vengorian Lord, I am converting mine to be mounted in stead of being the beast. I saw many conversions like that and they rock. Do you feel that the randomness of their madness is a big factor to avoid relying into them? As the Rend debuff is a passive effect, I do not feel so bad about them.
  6. Well... now I want a skullgrinder. Imagine that insane man, using a big book at the end of his chain to hit people around.
  7. I think the Bloodsecrator is doing something bad for our faction. If we could dream for a global overhaul, I would prefer it to give a smaller buff, like some rerolls. Right now, all our units contemplate in their profiles the +1 attack from him, so every time it gets sniped or too far behind, all our glorious warriors drop their axes and start using pillows. On the mortals side, i hate that we have the most rend on our cannon fodder. I am not shure if juggernout should have it, but looking at some other "supercavallry", i see other mounts inflict mora than one wound or get rend, we lack both.
  8. Indeed, the number of attacks the bloodreavers get by the bloodsecrator is amazing. Without it, they are just a not very expensive blood tithe point, but when buffed, they can do some damage. I prefer to have 20 (on two units over a big one) becausethey also die violently fast. The last game I played, the whole 10-man unit got deleted by the charge of only four vindictors. Even if your opponent does not manage to kill all of them, losing a couple really affects your damage output.
  9. Indeed, Khorne cares not where the blood comes from. Every unit that is destroyed gives Khorne a point of joy (and/or anger). Your own deaths will be a worthy sacrifice to the blood god, who will bless you with demons, so you can summon them to kill and be killed once again.
  10. I forgot about the Khorgorath buff! I find out that most games I do not have enough CP for everything I want (all out attack and defense plus a reroll on charge or something like that) , so that buff is mostly forgotten. If the Khorgorath was part of the Warcry band, it must be around on the path to glory!
  11. I think that, without a bloodsecrator, bloodreavers will not have any chances of doing damage. As they die very easy, you are almost including just a blood point in your army. If not including that force multiplyer, I fear all your army will feel pillow-fisted. What about this? Exalted deathbringer, bloodsecrator, bloodreavers, bloodreavers, skullreapers? I have never used the reapers, but they seem to be strong. II personally enjoy going full juggernout at low points games, but that is an expensive way to start an army.
  12. I, as a casual player from a casual community that only enjoys one game per month, mostly against Stormcast Eternals that are always bringing the new toys, I start to feel left behind. Last year our games were really close ones, with my people being able to do quite damage before dying, only to empower my blood tithe and buff other units. I play only mortals, and my collection is still a bit tight. As time passed, I realized I needed soooo much support (in the very fragile form of heroes that could die from 1d6 mortal wounds) to make shine anything that is not a team of skullcrushers. I like the models, I enjoy the impact on charge and armor to take a punch back, and really have a nice time when I manage to whip them before sending to the enemy, but looking at the new armored Stormcasts that spawn within 7" of my men doing a trillion wounds on the charge and proceed to save everything, I think every mortal unit in the book is almost obsolete. I looked at the Slaves to Darkness models and they seemed to fulfill some places on the army (looking at the shrine) but it is true that the options among the books could become a bit too vast. Personally, I would enjoy if a couple models from the other books are added to ours, as Soulblights and FEC share the dragons and big bats. Demon Princes should be part of the army, and, if we do not get access to doombulls, we should get khorgors or something like that. Really hope the future will give us something to enjoy some of our games, as offering Khorne only our own blood is starting to become a bit tedious.
  13. Thank you very much, my Lord. Your wisdom is trully legendary and your advice shall be considered. Is our Menagery worthy of consideration if no Lord is guiding them into the battle?
  14. Hello! How are you? Sorry to bother. I am a khorne player just trying to explore different things, and somehow I ended up with a Flesh-eater Court Start Collecting that I am converting to be some kind of pict army (giving them some shields, exploring the idea of adding tattoos, etc. As it seems, the faction is a very self-contained one, with almost everything on just one box (exept the archregent and the spells). I was wandering, as the Start Collecting is so amazing, when would you recommend to stop buying it once and again and take different approaches? How would you tailor your lists at 750, 1000 and 1500 points? Right now I am adding to my collection the contents of the warcry crew, so it means I will have in total, 20 serfs and 6 knights, as well as the royal mount (did the heads detachable) and the king, I also made two gharst courtiers. I think I will grab the archregent next week, but after that... where to go? It seems every abhorrant can bring more people to the game for free, so deciding what to hire and what to summon seems a little difficult to master. Also, the ghouls get extra attacks when they are over 20 models, so a block of 30 looks like needed, is that right? if so, would you consider getting like... 60 ghouls for hire and 6 flayers and then feel free to summon anything else? What would you recommend to give the first steps in this faction? Are spells necesary? Also, are warscroll battallions a thing in this faction? Thank you very much for your help! Just a non-competitive player trying to join the feast
  15. Interesting to know! I am also a khorne mortal follower, and am looking with interest at the Slaves as potential reinforcements. It seems that, even as the Khorne Bloodbound tend to buff most Khorne mortal units, the Slaves tend to buff only themselves, so it can be a bit of a downer if you only take a unit or two. I would like to add to the list of useful models the infamous warshrine. Even if its prayers cannot help bloodreavers and the likes, the generic ones from the book can be picked, and it can be used to summon endless spells. As it is a Totem, it buffs bloodreavers without taking a Hero slot.
