A new darkness surrounds you. Water scales the walls, which shift with unnatural affect. At your feet, tendrils throng and pulse – but the light of a torch reveals nothing but brackish water.

Your mind scrabbles through past mysteries. What penumbral forces control this dread realm?"

    Hi everyone,

I've been for 2y in the hobby and now is my time to join the team and start a new DoK army!
Some questions still trouble me, so it would be great if you could help me out?

I've read the last third of the thread so far and checked several beginner guides and batraps on how to handle a (hopefully) successfull start with the sinister ladies. My main conclusions are:

    - Big blocks of witch elves/sisters of slaughter
    - Morathi is quite good
    - Fast glass cannon army,  with some deepstrinking units
    - Cauldrons are our friends and a good choice to keep important buffers alive (slaughter qeen, hag queen)

    Questions:

    - Am I wrong with my conlusions?
    - Is it a good moment to start, or should I rather wait due to all that new stuff is coming out? (Morathi campaign book, Shadow & Pain box..)
    - Is Morathi useable as a caster, or should I use my first turn (after casting Mindrazor) to immediately transform her into her "big" form?
    - Are snake units just nice as MSU or would a pure snake army perform as well? I heard that the shooting version doesnt soak in buffs that well
    - What about competitive play? Are DoK on a level with other mid-tier armies? And is Hag Narr the only temple for competitive play. Im aware, that the battletome is very 2.0 vanilla and some aspects depend on my local meta (like shooting, or new magic-heavy armies)
    - Any hints on how to collect a 2k force without spending a trillion € 😀

Ok that was an avalanche of questions. Thank to anybody still trying to answer some of them!

    Cheers!
    Milano

I would like to add that money saving of GW Products is part of the fun for me. You can try to find second-hand models and buy them for a much cheaoper price.

If you like Sisters of Slaughter and converting I really recommend The (40k) Drukhari Wyches.852960.jpg.1782498ea0c4d546c6b7c8763b61118a.jpg

I also changed their Hands for the whips and Shield or daggers. This picture is just one part of the inspiration. Mine look different.

You need a bit of green stuff for the necks though.

I believe it is boring to have 30 witch elves and 30 sisters of slaugher on the field and they have the same dresses. Those Wyches also have a gladiator style to them. The money saving comes from the spare parts you get in a box of witch elves and the much cheaper Wyches.

  4. i got the mollogs mob cards for a cheap price and added those also.

I would aim for something like that:

    Quote

Gotta have to learn how the game works. Which matchups are good for the Bladecoven and witch matchups are hard to win against?

  5. I am totally new to Warhammer Underwordls, but I have invested in Morgwaeths Bloodcoven. I have red through some forums and did also buy the cards of Rippas Snarlfangs.

Do you have playing experience with Morgwaeths squad?

What cards would you buy/add/change in the starter deck in the box?

  6. @Graywater and @Sapca I see your points. I am not totally on board however. Warmachines are a lot cheaper then the Prime and I wouldnt spend 300 points to trade for a 180 point warmachine. In my head I encounter the problem that the prime drops into the enemy backline and is seperated from the main army. Why wouldnt that 2000 point enemy army turn on the 300 point model and erase the prime first and then pivot for the remaining 1700 point DoK army?

I found that this is the main weakness of most stormcast players. They seperate their 2000 point army in smaller chunks and scatter them on the battlefield. A well led army would take them chunk by chunk in my opinion.

New list I am going to try. Based around my one from the 1 dayer but with some tweeks.

    Hagg Nar

Hag Queen on Cauldron of Blood (Blessing of khaine) (290)
Bloodwrack Shrine (Shadowstone, mindrazor) - General, devoted Disciples (210)
Morgwaeth Blade-coven, Crimson Rejuvenation: 140 (to keep Shrine/Cauldron going)
Celestant Prime (300) (Deal with backline shooters/target Sisters cant get to)
30 Sisters of Slaughter (Bucklers) (300)
    20 Blood Sisters (480)
5 Blood sisters (140) (I went with 5 sisters over 10 WE. They have better save/same wounds and have better attack output if on their own)
5 Doomfire Warlocks (Steed of shadows) (140) Still not sure this over a 2nd MEdusa. I love the medusa attacks but usually wont take effect until turn 2/3. I like the 2nd Shrine but I just cant fit it in. Warlocks can be a fast backline unit or sneaky obj stealer  with steed of shadows)

    9 Drops (as I think Morgwaeth counts a 2)
    2 Casts, 2 dispels. 2 witch brews. 2 prayers

Lovin that list! Not convinced about the Celestant Prime though. The model ist quite expensive and you have to get him to combat also. Cant the job be done by Heartrenders? I mean for the pricetag you can have 3 times 5 and let spears fly.

Can you tell us your experiences with this list?

Yes. I heard some people now thinking that Malerion does not exist which is nonsense. However maybe GW added a twist: if malerion enters the realm of shadows he is malerion, if he enters the realm of light he is Tyrion?

Imo the text is just a hint at the secretive nature of the shadow aelves and their assassins. ^^

argh! The pain in the heart... By the blood god I hope not. Malerion will be a beast of trickery and disguise.

Perhaps the greatest question of all: where is the god of shadows? A hero of the Age of Myth, a key member of Sigmar’s holy pantheon, Malerion has vanished, seemingly without a trace! Turns out, it’s all a lie! Within the mists of darkest Ulgu, your brave reporter discovered a terrible secret – there might not even be a Male–

Editor’s Note: Tragically, this is Eckhardt Tresca’s last work. In a mysterious twist that he would have appreciated, he was found in his locked office in the Azyrheim Cryer building, with no blood to be found despite several wounds. The Order of Azyr investigated and decided there was no foul play. We present his final story (almost) in full as testament to his lifetime of service.

    mysterious times ahead.

  10. The Daughters of Khaine battletome is really old now compared to the other battletomes around. Perhaps Morathis and Malerions units get a combined battletome in the future. Thats a big "maybe", because the Daughters are working really well inside their boundries, so new units are questionable.

As stated in the new Souldbound Roleplay book, Malerion is not really close to neither Sigmar nor Teclis. He is the silent king in the shadow lands without actively siding with someone. He took a part in the capture of Slaanesh, but I cant confirm that he was closer to any other kin then his Dark aelfen souls he took such a risk of saving from slaaneshs belly.

Malerion is a god now himself. As is Morathi and Malerion is more likely to side with his mother then any other power of the realms. Thats the way I see it.

Hey all,  just starting with the start collecting box. As I'm building I'm wondering if I should build a character on a cauldron or a bloodwrack Medusa Shrine. Any consensus?

In my opinion you should magnetise the unit. It is worth to put some effort in that. The Avatar statue and the big mirror are easy to magnetise. The Medusa can be magnetised easy as well and Slaugherqueen or Hag Queen can stand on their base if you like. I would glue the two witch elves nevertheless.

So - the Hurricanum and the Luminark.

What purpose are these in our lists?  And by that, I mean are they focal points?  Where you basically construct a whole army around them?  Or are they more like support, where you bring one along, and it's helpful, but it's more of a smaller element of a bigger picture?

No no forget all the spells, the mortal wounds and what-ever-what. Those are just peanuts and small addons. The Hurricanum is a big buff generator that gives all of your Cities-keyworded units +1 to hit and +1 to cast. You might take the Luminark maybe more for the damage, but it gives a defensive buff of wound/mortal wound denial on a 6+. Note that you can give Stormcast units also the Cities of Sigmar Keyword.

Now in bigger armies your return of investment of the Hurricanum is greater. It is far less interesting to use it on a 1000 point army then on a 2000 points one. You dont necessarily have the build a whole army around it, because it helps every unit, but you must see that you run into the problems that typical Daughters of Khaine lists have. The focus and castle around an important support unit. The hurricanum can have downsides and thats why the bridge looks so good in those armies.

Lastly take a look on the winning tournament lists of Cities of Sigmar. The hurricanum is a candidate for the must have units in tournaments.

Just started working on the "blood crushers" the dracoline will be blind too like the other daemons. They look like giant flesh hounds so they fit better then the metal rhinos and I can use them under stormcast rules too to gain benefits against chaos if need be for narrative gaming.

    20181229_172645.jpg

that middle secion is rough! I am interested if the body of a vampire lord on zombie dragon might fit the mount?

  14. I really like the list of @Ravinsild and it reminds me of one of the Tournament winners with a Tempests Eye list of Dezember 2019

    https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2019/12/aos-list-of-the-week-the-tempests-eye-sees-victory.html

looks very competitive! I would like to show you my first iteration of that list with a dark aelfen vibe, some conversion ideas etc. etc.

What do you think? Still competitive (3 instead of 6 Dracolines)?

    This could be something along those lines;

    Black Ark Fleetmaster - 60

    40x Corsairs - 280

    3x Scourgerunner Chariots - 150

    Hydra - 170

    Hydra - 170

    Hydra - 170

    Total - 1000

ok this looks fine and scaly. A few things:

    1) as @readercolin mentioned already, you are forced to take Anvilguard in this configuration with the 3 behemoths

    2) I think you did the best possible setup you could achieve with your model planning. However I wouldnt build and paint all 3 Hydras. Swap one for a Kharybdiss if you want to to make your hobby feeling more diverse. Khary is a bit weaker then the Hydra, but she is such a beauty ❤️

My Hydra/Kharybdiss (her name is Scylla) is completely magnetised so I can swap the heads and the tail. It was a big effort but worth in my opinion. It will be tricky with the color scheme though, but it works.

Overall I think you will enjoy your army. Give it a story and a background!
