  1. Hi All, wow, just realised that it's been more than a year since I've updated my thread. It's been a busy year with work, and I haven't really had any hobby mojo since the new Slaanesh book came out - not really anything in there for mortal-heavy armies sadly. Anyway, the new slaves to darkness book has got me excited about the hobby again. I'm almost finished converting up a couple of new nautical Nurgle figures, and here's the only figure that I've completed in the last year - the icon bearer for my plague fleet blightkings. Comments welcome. MGP
  2. Marvellous hobbying. I’ve been itching to get use some deepkin bits in my Slaanesh army, and some Cawdor in my Nurgle - I’ll be taking inspiration from your work when I have the cash to get the kits! Love the pale pale grey running through your army, it’s very well executed and the classic combo works fantastically well with the purple. Keep up the good work. MGP
  3. Great work! Fantastic colour scheme, but I really like your frequent use of head swaps etc. Your clever positioning of the heads on the great weapon chaos warriors is particularly nice - gives a great impression of movement on static ‘regimented’ models. Keep up up the good work. I’ll be watching this thread looking for inspiration for my own Slaanesh army (still very much in its infancy). MGP
  4. @elfhead @Luke82 @Martsb - thanks for the kind feedback. It’s good to know that fellow hobbyists rate my work. There’s a few reasons why I haven’t painted any of these up yet. Mostly, it’s due to my not having a permanent hobby set up, and I find it easier to have a mobile “conversion / kit bash station” than a painting one. I also much, much prefer building and converting to painting - it exercises the creative part of my brain more. @Martsb- please go ahead and steal some of my ideas, I’d love to see where other hobbyists take these conversions. If you like the crab blightking here is a work in progress of another of my “nautical Nurgle” models. I actually started him before the crab conversion, but I got frustrated when his mast/banner pole snapped and put the mini aside for quite a long while. Comments welcome. MGP
  5. And here’s the finished mark of Slaanesh chaos lord. Quite pleased with how he turned out in the end. This conversion was a bit of an experiment. I assume that push fit minis will become more prevalent in the future, so I wanted to see how easy/hard it was to convert them. It turns out that it’s more difficult than I hoped, but a lot depends on how the model is fitted together. I certainly plan on trying to convert a few more in the near future. MGP
  6. @Kronos thanks. I can’t hold a candle to your work, but one day I hope to be able to tackle some epic scale conversions like your own. @Luke82 the claw is from the genestealer acolyte kit - it’s definitely worth having a look through the genestealer range for kitbash ideas. @Swooper the crest is from the Dire Avenger exarch, you just need to cut a little from the bottom and then it fits pretty well - see the closeup Speaking of helmets, here’s a work in progress of a bull headed helmet for a Slaanesh chaos lord that I’m working on. The used to be quite a few bovine elements in the classic Slaanesh imagery and I’m hoping to incorporate some of that in my own force. MGP
  7. This blog is not going to be boring! To me it looks exciting and ambitious. Looking forward to to seeing the mammoth progress. I like what you’ve done with the blood warriors, will you use those as mark of Nurgle chaos warriors? I also like the colour scheme and use of UHU glue on the herald. Keep up up the good work. MGP
  8. @AGPO glad that you like what I’m up to. I just wish I could update it more frequently, but these conversions are time consuming, and I only get 5, or 6 evenings a month to hobby these days @Luke82 if you like a bit of Nurgle, you might like this guy - a Blightking converted from a few bits, plenty of putty and a real shell. I made this guy a while ago and posted him on Twitter, but not here. In my opinion, this is my most accomplished conversion to date. I was planning on making a whole unit of “nautical Nurgle” Blightkings, but I’ve lost my enthusiasm for Nurgle now that Marauders have to be fielded in units of 20+, as this has scuppered my army plans. I’m sure that I’ll revisit this idea one day though, and make a themed unit to acompany Gutrot Spume into battle (from the side of the board!). MGP
  9. As well as working on models, I’ve also been working on themed lists. My my current thinking is a force led by a Mortal Slaanesh Lord commanding 36 other mortals over 6 units and a Keeper of Secrets / Daemon Prince with 6 chariot-mounted daemonettes as an escort. Something like- Lord of Slaanesh on daemonic mount Keeper of Secrets Herald on exalted seeker chariot Herald on seeker chariot Chaos Sorcerer Lord Mark of Slaanesh Chaos Lord Mark of Slaanesh 5 Hellstriders 5 Hellstriders 5 Chaos knights Mark of Slaanesh 15 Chaos warriors Mark of Slaanesh 1 Chaos Chariot Mark of Slaanesh 1 Chaos Chariot Mark of Slaanesh This is just rough as the points are bound to change and I guess a new KoS model is in the works (probably with increased points), but as things stand in AoS1 this comes in at well under 2000 points. Also buying / building / converting / painting this smallish number of models should be achievable, even for me in a couple of years. MGP
  10. @Rhivan thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! I’ve been working on a couple of other conversions for my mark of Slaanesh chaos warrior unit. First is based on the dark Eldar scourge kit. I’ve tried to give this model an old realm of chaos vibe by adding male and female symbols, a faced cod piece, choosing a body with studded armour and converting the mini to have one breast. I know that chaos warriors don’t have wings in the AoS ruleset, but I’m keen to have as much variety in height and appearance in the unit as possible. Second, a much quicker kitbash based on a new deepkin mini. I love the armour on these, and it reminds me of some of the artwork in the classic Slaves to Darkness book. Comments welcome. MGP
  11. A couple of quick updates - the Slaanesh reveals as part of the lead up to the AoS2 release inspired me to finish a couple of projects which must have been sat in my hobby queue (of shame) for about a year. These two will be added to my mark of Slaanesh chaos warriors with halberds and shields. MGP
  12. @Uveron - thanks for the suggestions. I'm certainly keen to have a go at using the ghoul kit as the basis for some conversions. @TheDayman @Samanar @Napalm Backflip Thanks for your kind comments. The imminent Nurgle book release has inspired me to get going again with my Blightkings. Here's a unit champion kitbashed from a few kits. The model's legs aren't quite the same length, but with some cunning basing I should be able to correct that. Plus, I feel that it looks a little top heavy, but again, I'm hoping a nurgling on that big base will help balance things out. Otherwise I'm really pleased with him. Just three more to build to complete my deamonic-looking unit. Comments welcome. MGP
  13. Another quick update. Here are 3 "marauders" with the mark of Nurgle which I finished a little while ago. Looking back at these, I think that the plague zombie is a little too dynamic, but I'll leave it be for now, or else I'll never finish this army! I'm getting close to a unit of 20 now without having to actually use the official marauder kit - a kit which I own, but I can't bring myself to build! Hopefully, the use of several other kits will give the unit the look of a loose rabble rather than a well-drilled unit of soldiers. Any suggestions for other GW kits that I can use as the basis of Nurgle marauders? I think that I've still got a few Bret men-at-arms hidden away in a box somewhere..... MGP
  14. @Kronos thanks! I agree that old chaos is that bit more special than the modern iteration - even if the current models are technically superior. I'll be looking out for your old school beastmen too - I've long fancied recreating some of the old preslotter citadel beastmen - too many projects, not enough time...... Speaking of time, my army blog is long overdue an update. Here's the 5th member of my heavily armoured blightkings. It's a bit bonkers, but I quite like how he's turned out. Nearly changed him to be wielding an axe, or hammer instead, but the unit did need a musician! After finishing him I now have a new found respect for anyone who can sculpt armour with green stuff - it took me a whole evening to get the legs right on this mini and this is only messy corroded armour! Comments welcome. MGP
  15. What an amazing collection of conversions. I'm glad that you reposted these, I'd have hated not to have seen them. The sheer scale and the vision required to create the larger conversions is staggering. Good use of a variety of kits. I'm a big fan of turning Sci-fi kits into fantasy models, especially when they're so well executed. I think that fur, or cloaks would look best on the backs - they look too chaotic to use shields! Which mini have you used for Sayl's lower body? I can't place it. I'll be watching with interest. MGP
  16. Here's another mini for my heavily armoured unit of blightkings. 4 done now, aiming for a 10 strong unit. The conversion is based on a starter box liberator. They're quite tricky to convert, but given how inexpensive they are, I think that it's worth the effort. I may yet change the head - not sure if I should use a more Nurgle-styled helmet? Comments welcome as always. MGP
  17. Great concept for an army. Plus, the imagery ties in nicely to Sigvald's armour. I been looking for some dynamic sculpts to use as the basis for my own Slaanesh chaos warriors, so I think I'll take some inspiration from you and try to replicate your idea. I've a few hoplite-inspired conversions in my own army, but I've used dark Eldar/aelf, and stormcast models for mine. Yours are truer to the stylised Greek look though. Regarding cloaks - I'd reserve those for characters, or unit champions. I find them tricky to sculpt, so I buy them from GW bits sellers, or third party bits companies. Getting the scale to match is always the tricky part though, but the effort can be worth it. I'll be watching with your thread with interest, especially the chariot - I'm thinking of using the dark elf kit for my own Slaanesh chariot. Great back story too. MGP
  18. @Bueno - thanks, the compliment means a lot coming from you! My aim is for each model in the army to be different, so a lot of conversions, but some of my favourite minis will be assembled as GW intended. I have to say your army sets the bar for a heavily converted force - inspiring stuff. @Rogue Explorator - thanks for the criticism and comments - everyone on TGA is so nice that it's rare to get a critical comment - but I think that I need those to raise my standards! You're right, a lot of time has gone into that conversion, but it's mostly been hiding 40K parts, when I should be looking to add more AoS flavour to the model. I can't bring myself to change the head though - it's such a wonderful sculpt, but I'll be looking to add more "fantasy bling" elsewhere, particularly the disc. Here's another Tzeentch conversion, the idea shamelessly stolen from the excellent convertorum blog. And the first of a new Blightking unit - this unit will consist of models which have a lot daemonic character. Should help differentiate them from my other heavily armoured blightking unit. Let me know what you think. MGP
  19. Hi Hobbyists, sorry for being incommunicado for so long. Real life had made the last few months a bit hectic. It's great to see so many replies on my thread, although it makes me feel all the guiltier for being away! @Grand Exemplar - glad that my conversions are helping you to realise your Tzeentch army. Re: knight shoulder pads - yes and no. I also use a lot of knight arms, which fit fine. However, if you use the SCE liberator arms then some extra cutting/filing is needed. Re: knight helmets - check old Bret and Empire bits - there might be something that you can use once you've trimmed off the "bling". @J-P you're welcome. I too wanted larger scale chaos warriors - I wanted a real variety in sizes in each unit to make them more "chaotic" looking. I'll be keeping an eye out for your Valnir-lead warband. Re cloaks - I too want to build cloaked liberator conversions. However, as my time is so tight I'm going to avoid doing too much sculpting - my main plan wad to buy third party cloaks / GW cloaks from bits shops - However, Liberators are a too large! My current plan is to use Stormcast Vanguard Hunters as the base model for some new kit bashes. @Kaleb Daark- thanks, I might take you up on that - it's hard to get good detail shots of the older minis. I've got some big banners planned for sure - I'm going to need to glue some coins to my standard bearer bases ? It's not a Stormcast, but here's another cloaked Chaos Warrior conversion w.i.p. that I posted on Twitter a while back - this guy will be a Tzeentch Fatemaster when he's finished. Criticisms and comments welcome as always. MGP
  20. Well with all of this Tzeentch excitement I couldn't resist revisiting my mark of Tzeentch chaos warrior unit again. Plus, I had one SCE liberator left to repurpose.... I've got 4 others at the w.i.p. stage, so hopefully I'll have the unit finished soon so that I can move onto some of the new Tzeentch model hotness. Comments welcome. 21. @elfhead - thanks for the comments and ideas. I'll need to work on my sculpting skills to create a lace collar! I'd originally composed my conversion in a similar pose to yours, but I changed it to accommodate different weapons - great minds and all that [emoji3] @Ollie Grimwood - thanks for the positive feedback. So it's been a long while since I posted anything, but I've finally had a couple of evenings to work on the army again. I'm currently working on a unit of Blightkings. Here are the first two, I'm going for a heavily armoured theme for this unit. The first is based on a SCE liberator, and the second is a more minor conversion as I'm not too keen on the kit's standard icon bearer. What do all think? MGP Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. @alasdair thanks for the suggestions. I've had some similar thoughts - I bought an old metal 3rd ed 40K Lelith Hesperax to convert up as well as a Jain Zar. I've already used the new plastic succubus, but I'm trying to track down the one before that in metal, or finecast. I hadn't thought about Valkia, but I had bought a box of dark eldar scourges - great minds think alike. I hadn't thought about using a deathbringer though - I'll have a good look at the sprue next time I'm in a GW store. I've done precious little hobby since my last update, but here's a work in progress of a Slaanesh chosen musician that I posted on Twitter a while back, but not here. I took my inspiration from the old Jes Goodwin classic (pictured). I intend to base a few conversions on old models and art - that should ensure that I stick to my planned Realm of Chaos theme and continue to push myself to improve my converting and sculpting. This amazing drawing from the lost and the damned is going to be the inspiration for my next conversion. There's a company planning to release a miniature based on this pic, but I want to have something of my own that I can use in a GW store / Warhammer world. Plus I like the challenge! Comments welcome. MGP Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Wow - you have some serious talent! The AoP competition must have been of a really high standard in your local store! I really like the pale skin on your slaughter priest - could you share your paint recipe? MGP Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. @elfhead @alasdair @Ademo @RuneBrush - thanks for the positive comments - I appreciate the feedback. Time for an update - the first 10 of a unit of halberd and shield chaos warriors with the mark of Slaanesh. I've been working on these guys for over a year, so I thought that it was time to properly finish 10 of them to give me enough for a game legal unit. The plan is to field these in a unit of 18 (or 20 for when strictly adhering to the GHB). Here's one of my favourites in detail - this one is based on the free WD liberator. He doesn't really fit my Realm of Chaos theme, but I like how he adds a variety of height to the unit. Most of these minis were originally for WFB 8th, so their poses are quite limited to allow them to rank up. I don't mind having some static models in the unit, but I'll be trying some more dynamic conversions in the next 8 (10) - can anyone suggest a dynamic halberd/spear armed GW mini that I can use as a basis for a conversion? I'm hoping to pick up the pace on this army a little; I'm excited to see that there'll be a monthly AoS night close to my house in Newcastle, so I need to get a playable force at least assembled! Thanks for looking. MGP
  25. Hi Hobbyists, Time for a long overdue update. Firstly, thank you for the positive comments. Since my last post I've completed / collected enough Khorne Chosen to make a game legal unit. 1) Unit champion based on the Chaos Lord clam pack. Largely inspired by Mengel Miniatures own clever conversion. 2) An icon bearer based on the starter set blood secrator - I'm particularly pleased with this one. 3) A skull drummer - I'm less pleased with this, but I find musicians hard to compose. Although I do think that he's suitably "Realm of Chaos" styled. Sorry for the blurry photo. 4) Finally, here's a group shot with an old classic. Of course, as this is a Realm of Chaos styled army, the unit should be 8 strong. I'm currently working / bidding on the final 3 models..... Criticisms and comments welcome.
