  1. Exalted Champion Chaos Warriors -> new box with Halberd options, banner Chaos Knights -> new box with banner, musician Eternius -> allegedly not the same kit as the Lord on DM
  2. No, Archaon has the Host of the Everchosen Keyword on his Warscroll now. "If a unit already has a different subfaction keyword on its warscroll, it cannot gain another one. This does not preclude you from including the unit in your army, but you cannot use the allegiance abilities for its subfaction."
  3. I am aware, I probably should have elaborated a bit. the working parts of the entire book are now running a 3+ by default, therefore the case for the shrine to work got narrower if it is not a normal wound the shrine is rather useless on non-cultist units except the Slaanesh prayer they read a lot less impactful than the previous ones flexibility is gone as the shrine is locked into its prayer through its mark and it seems that new lists will now bring multiple marks considering that "everything" is more expensive, there are fewer points to spare and the shrine in its previous glory was the first thing that was cut from current lists, even with all its upsides (although it is a bit cheaper now but why not add two extra cultist units or another hammer instead, you would have to save a lot of wounds to make up for an entire unit) the army seems faster than before, it might be difficult to keep units in range (although in all fairness is 18" is pretty big and will only be a problem in later turns At least it returned to its previous point cost. I am not arguing that everyone should melt their shrines down. It still seems like a reasonable unit but it most certainly does not strike me as a winner in the new book.
  4. Why would you ever bring it if every unit you are realistically gonna put on the table has a 5++ or better by default? Only exception I see atm are mono'ish lists with points to spare or marauder/cultist lists.
  5. It's mostly the Warshrine that keeps bugging me. The Sorc Lord at least makes sense, as he was rather cheap to begin with (compared to similar casters) and has a strong auto-succeed ability. Archaon nerfs and point increase on top of the Warshrine's feel a bit much, for an army that sits around a 50% win rate with only two builds (Archaon Sixth Circle, Knights of the Empty Throne).
  6. I am a bit torn now, after giving it some more thought. The premiums paid for the Warshrine are starting to hurt but often the shrine adds more effective wounds than a new unit would (+ it's buffing our core units). On top of that it adds a piece that doesn't want/have to move up the board but can hang a bit back instead, which is somewhat rare in Archaon lists. To be more practical here is an Archaon list with new points (downsized Iron Golems from previous version) and a variation without shrine.
  7. After thinking about it, maybe the play is to drop the Warshrine entirely and get more bodies or higher quality bodies instead. The Warshrine allows access to unique features (prayers) and is a nice force-multiplier (6++ bubble, on top of being visually different to the rest of the list) but at 215 points you could upgrade a unit of Iron Golems to Varanguard, add a unit of reinforced Iron Golems + compensate other point changes, or a unit of Knights/ 2x Untamed Beasts... the Warshrine seems to be the weakest link in previous lists. Like, the Sorc Lord is not gonna go anywhere and neither is Archaon. Only other option would usually be downgrading a unit of Varanguard or clipping other battlelines. How does the hive mind feel about this, is the Warshrine too essential and this is crazy talk?
  8. Seems harsh, considering the "unfair" armies didn't really change, Archaon DoT is no longer possible and his warscroll took a couple extra hits as well (again). Most of the changes seem weird, especially as the successful S2D setup is actually not S2D but Legion of the First Prince (not that S2D Archaon was bad but at this point we are approaching "beating a dead horse" levels rather fast). The 60%-win-ratio nobility will apparently take more victims until summer.
  9. Does Archaon make Cultist-units (Iron Golems, Untamed Beasts etc.) into Battlelines if he is the general? From RAW I'd say no at first glance but it seems a bit weird and I've seen tournament lists where they were counted as being Battleline (i.e. conflicting information). PS: The text under Aura of Chaos would imply that the Khorne, Tzeentch... keywords on Archaons scroll are considered Mark of Chaos keywords, therefore he has to pick an Aura that applies for the game and furthermore the rule above should be active as well. Technically the whole questions boils down to what exactly are Mark of Chaos keywords.
  10. Another one, does Archaon make Cultist-units (Iron Golems, Untamed Beasts etc.) into Battlelines if he is the general? From RAW I'd say no but it seems a bit weird and I've seen tournament lists where they were counted as being Battleline. PS: Although the text under Aura of Chaos would imply that the Khorne, Tzeentch... keywords on his scroll are considered Mark of Chaos keywords, therefore he has to pick an Aura that applies for the game and furthermore the rule above should be active as well.
  11. What is the current standard/most competitive choice for Varanguard weapons atm? Considering Sixth Circle, Empty Throne, 3man vs 6man, marks (Slaanesh vs Tzeentch usually) etc. (if the army setup even makes a difference) I'd guess that Ensorcelled weapons are the most mathematically appealing and I think they were in AoS2 as well but it's hard to determine what ppl pick in tournaments as Warscrollbuilder doesn't care about that for some reason (and I had no luck finding a math-hammer post here, although I was certain there was one).
  12. Something-something Chaos Ascendant?!
  13. There is an argument for MSU, but the list as it stands is build around buffing a big unit with as much stuff as possible. Overall the list has legs, while not being without counters. I'd like to see someone recreate that performance in the coming weeks/months. Gives competitive StD players maybe some hope.
  14. Sadly, that makes it a little bit less impressive.
  15. Yes, like many other effects/rules in AoS, the unit can target itself. The Varanguard will probably use their first activation (or another unit in close vicinity) to activate the +1A from Bloodmarked and make use of it in the same turn through an additional activation. The math behind that unit is pretty sick. It's fast, can be teleported, rr1 to hit, +1 to wound, rr its 3+ save through the sorcerer, ignores spells on 4+, 6" pile in if needed, additional activation through lords/warscroll, potential ward save from shrine (+ rr charge or other buffs through prayer), if they ever get wiped out 3 dudes can come back on a 5+... and whatnot. Their damage is really scary as well. I wish their was a stream or something, I'd really like to see how he moved around the board (especially the squishy parts of the list).
  16. The Mark of Khorne is pretty cool though (+1 to wound is rather rare). From the podcast, the unit of 6 never died (they were talking about Failure is Not an Option and if they ever came back as a unit of 3, they didn't have to) Although I don't know which armies/lists he had to fight.
  17. Thoughts on the list by Marc Brookes that won Hammertime III? 3 games, n = 35 Source: https://tabletop.to/hammertime-iii
  18. Watch this: Generally, Khorne is a bad starter army despite being advertised as one. Khorne cannot do all-comers (especially not on a competitive level) plus all lists tend to be rather specialized/gimmicky (Archaon setup, 4-5 BTs, Marauder spam) and always have at least one to several hard counter. It's usually a 3-2 or 2-3 army in tournaments.
  19. It has already been stated that they are very versatile and reasonably priced point-wise. Another way to look at units, is considering the alternatives and there are few to none. Namely, StD Marauders and min Bloodreavers. If you don't want either of those due to points or synergies you are left with Flesh Hounds and only Flesh Hounds (assuming the list wants to be more on the competitive side).
  20. It's not a 'fix one thing' problem, but it might help. Hordes tend to outclass medium and probably even heavy infantry in terms of durability and offense more often than not, especially in an era where unit/model wide buffs are the norm. They are often just better and more reliable from a mathematical standpoint. Not sure how I would approach the problem or if there is even an elegant fix possible within this edition (they already tried to make it harder with the whole "be wholly within" jazz). I'd probably try to implement some unit type special rules, e.g. non-monster cav gets +1A on charge, infantry could get an armour bonus or something, please don't quote me on those or argue about balance these where off the top of my head... Either way, as mentioned it will probably require a new edition and the paradigm shifting away from buffhammer to finally see some shock cav or non-horde infantry.
  21. GW is really bad at making non-horde infantry competitive or at least somewhat reasonable. This has been a problem in AoS since forever with no change in sight. (another one would be non-monster cav, which is almost always sidelined as well) A general rework for those types is in order, just updating some warscroll is sadly not gonna cut it anymore.
  22. It's not... All of the units have a star because the changes were pushed through an FAQ + Vorgaroth wasn't even in the GHB2019 or do you have a special edition the rest of us doesn't have? Furthermore, it shouldn't be against the rules, as the points are usually readily available through Warscollbuilder which is totally free and endorsed by GW.
  23. So, not much has changed. I think some ppl here are still new to Khorne, we exist in borderline depression, only broken by our occasional screams dedicated to our favourite patron. Except for some outliners, the army has been 'meh' since forever and it probably always will be, due to Khorne/melee armies always having the potential of becoming super oppressive, if the numbers shift in the wrong way. That doesn't excuse half of the current book being non-existent on the table, I mean the last time mortals were actually strong in a somewhat competitive setting was when old Sayl with Skullreaper bombs was around. That's now what, 3 years? BoK 2.0 being a straight downgrade didn't help either, like, no one that actually played Khorne was looking forward to the update. As I said, nothing has changed, again. So it's at least another year of Tyrants + X or priest spam while being able to compete with fewer and fewer armies with each upcoming release. That's like Monday for an invested Khorne player. @shadowgra If you want to move out of a ****** neighborhood, you should probable drive further than one block.
