  1. I didn't realize... thought they were just showing alternate builds to the new SC in this picture Those guys look pretty cool and fit right in with the new guys. I never looked at Varanguard before somehow.
  2. Phil Kelly recently referred to Kurnothi as "a type of aelf-like Sylvaneth that worships the hunting god aspect". I believe it was in the 40 strange facts about the Mortal Realms in the last White Dwarf. Going from that, I take it they will be a subfaction of Sylvaneth but hard to say how they will introduced into AoS proper. It could literally be a White Dwarf mini-tome entry for the time being and then rolled into Sylvanth in the follow up Tome in the future, or it could be their own stand alone Tome but retaining the Sylvaneth keyword. Alternatively they could be Ally only but with a combo battalion that allows cross use of traits but that seems counter-intuitive to refer to them as Sylvaneth at all in that case.
  3. I bought in to Loon Curse and love the Arch Regent but not sure it is that "clutch" of a character, she really isn't that tough but looks cool as hell. As far as this new box goes.. there is the existing Tyrant (no where near as cool of course) but you can get a figure for your army without the box. As far as the Bonereapers, that hero looks kind of dumb in my opinion. especially when I see that it is just the top of a coffin and his little legs out the bottom. I know he was the original spokesperson for the hype train but I think you could easily pass on this and wait for the individual sets to drop and get all the other much cooler heroes for their army. If he is super powerful and crucial to the army then it is silly to include him in this set and as a miniature is not cool enough to base the entire purchase of this expensive box on.
  4. I am super excited about the Ogors side of the box and buying it just to paint honestly. I have way too many armies going but I will find a way to use them somehow, even as mercenaries. I am really disappointed in Morghasts being in the box. Just seems like they are pawning off old models. I don't anticipate getting into Bonereapers too much but the Calvary is my favorite unit by far and including a unit of them would have been epic just from a painting stand point. I have bought a number of these box sets in the past and generally they always leave something to be desired on both sides. I am curious if they thought that what is in the box would actually be a fun and somewhat fair match up between the two forces. Looking online at the rest of the Gutbuster line, those Butcher figures are absolutely terrible. I hope they intend to update that ASAP. I do like a number of the Maneaters guys though.. The ninja one is hilarious and I like the one with the executioner's hood and giant cycle/chain weapon. Weird when you hit the "gnoblar" link in the Community article it takes you to the store to an obvious WHFB box and really bad looking Goblins with weird noses that look like cartoon bird beaks or something. So far from the quality of the Gloomspites. Hope there are rules for the new Underworld Wolf Riders to be used in a Mawtribe army. Also excited to see how they work with the "entire force of monsters" type thing. Some of those Forge World beasties might be worth getting.
  5. Absolutely. Even several forms of Arioch echo the design of raw chaos entities and Stormbringer is the original demonic weapon. When I first got into GW in the late 80's the Elven dragon riders WERE Elric and Dyvim Tvar. I think I had a Moonglum and Rackhir, the Red Archer as well. Obviously Lovecraft influenced the influencers but WFB was pretty much Tolkien meets Moorcock. Blanche and Miller and the rest of the group really ran with the Chaos thing taking it to level 11 on acid. There are more tentacles/mutations which have Lovecraftian parallels.
  6. If you don't mind looking outside of GW for heads, these would work pretty well. I have a lot of these figures and they are really well done. Heads are almost always a separate piece so moding should not be a problem
  7. Its a shame that the Night Haunt list is so boring. I love my Night Haunts but I have way too many cool looking heroes and the Coach is a great model and I don't see many people actually fielding the stuff I painted up. I don't want to have to run 30 reapers (my current army has 0 because I never bought into them out of spite for giving us a useless four of them in the Soul Wars box) and so many Chain Rasps. I love Blade Revenants but 30 of them plus 30 Reapers plus 30 chain rasps sounds really boring to paint and move around the battle field.
  8. For all the comments on how FW have not done anything for AoS I strangely can find about $5000 worth of stuff I would like to own on their website. Yes, I know... technically for old Fantasy Battle but damn, Tamurkhan and his entire horde look killer (love the Nergal Battle Toads bigtime), the entire range of Hashut followers are awesome (those flame things would be so cool if expanded on in AoS), and all of their monsters are amazing. The Troggoth Hag seems a really important model for anyone running straight Troggs as it gives them some spell casting... I have said it before but I will say it again... if that Merwyrm was properly usable with Idoneth it would be in my checkout cart in the time it takes me to click a mouse button. This stuff should have found its way into the Battle Tomes long ago. I know Vince was speculating that the entire FW might be re-incorporated into GW proper or who knows? Whatever they do, I hope that it brings a good integration of the kits with the rules or they are just fancy fun painting exercises for display pieces and it would seem that 99% of us on here are in agreement we would like these things to be usable and in such a way that they actually see the table top.
  9. I really hope the design team took some effort to figure out how they interact with LoN if they allow them on board because to make these guys a really strong stand alone army and then incorporate the best of that into LoN might be Grim Reapers x10. I understand the LoN players wanting to have some of these new toys but at the same time, I kind of hope they cannot be included and that they are meant to always be an outlier on the far end of Nagash's reach.
  10. I have to say this was a bit of an odd reveal day overall. Starting with Warcry I expected to see the last two warbands revealed that have silhouetted images in the core book, not an entire new expansion already. I am excited for monsters and potentially for mercenaries but to already start bringing in heroes and other forces seems to bode towards massive bloat in the future as in the discussion they said they have a 3 year plan for expansions and additions. Also odd they have the War Queen as the poster character which may mean Dark Oath are not as much of a thing as everyone assumed... hard to tell what is up with Slaves/undivided Chaos . As was mentioned earlier, Vince from Warhammer Weekly, who was present at the panel, said that they had already confirmed Ogre Maw Tribes Battletome which they hadn't but was assumed. We know it is coming and it is exciting but so few details it is hard to make much of all that at the moment. Orruks and Cities are coming so soon they are not worth talking about? Seems like something really important to talk about! What is going on with these? What can we expect with army structure, etc. Any new named characters? I am ok without devoted Endless Spells and Terrain and what they said about new ways to use existing stuff is all fine (a number of Malign Sorcery E.S. had a very Orukky feel to them anyway) and Vince's idea of Destruction actually being able to destroy stuff would be a great way to go but not entirely sure what Cities will actually be like in terms of army construction, abilities, or fun level. The new Ossiarchs are a mixed bag. I love the cavalry, war machine, and stand alone heroes. I am OK with the infantry. Absolutely HATE the Tyranid feel of the four armed guys. A one second glimpse and I was NOPE (and they are on the cover). Vince said a flying unit was confirmed in the discussion and we know Coffin Carrier guy is coming (by the way in the video you can see the hanging heads of kings on hooks Rumor Engine is part of this model... not Ogres as I was thinking) but curious what else. Some sort of Giant or other massive Behemoth construct would be awesome. Also hard to believe that every single rumor about a strong shooting presence was wrong so I am hoping some archers/missile troops are yet to be revealed. This army lends itself well to conversions galore so even the worst offenders of aesthetic assault can be reformed into more pleasing shapes. I was hoping they were not so heavily tied to Nagash but oh well. Vince implied that the Mortarch IS the escapee from the Forbidden Power but as others have stated, a bit disappointing if so just because it does not fit with the narrative given in that book and how it cliff-hanged the entity escaping. So from all this we can speculate: Orruk Tribes and Cities of Sigmar are September release - no new models, no spells, perhaps old terrain repackaged for Cities. New Death faction Ossiarchs preorder in October - big release, still unknown number of units so may stretch in Nov. Maw Tribes now confirmed but with zero info to go on. Might be anywhere between next week (unlikely) to December. Battle Box with Maw Tribes also now in question with no mention of it. Sort of odd disjointed approach to discussing these non-Ossiarch releases, especially if a box is on the horizon that contains said Ossiarchs. No mention of Chaos anything. Plate is already super full. Not sure if they will try to sneak another Tome in before the end of the year but you can be pretty assured that it will NOT be the guys that need the biggest overhaul and perhaps extensive miniature expansion if one comes.
  11. I was hoping that Warcry and Path to Glory were going to become one awesome skirmish/campaign thing or that Path to Glory would somehow build upon a descent Skirmish rules set and allow expansion up to 1000 then 2000 point armies but it seems like it is all about Narrative and the players really have to take the balance in to their own hands. This type of thing screams for a GM/DM type role to manage a campaign but they don't have enough to do to occupy/entertain them unless they introduce NPC type armies/characters that have no self serving will to "win" the campaign. Funny that GW has not really spent a ton of time figuring out the Path to Glory stuff when it occupies a good chunk of precious pages in every new Battletome released.
  12. Based on what is up on their page right now: https://www.adepticon.org/event-rules/ It is still all about this past year's tourney so nothing updated yet.
  13. I could have sworn that the Ogre release tied in somehow with the Tithe the way the previous reveal was shown on the community site... If so, that has to work in there as well.
  14. I was having the same ideas about the two factions. I went with Sylvaneth because I love the new Arch Revenant model and Drycha plus the timing of the new Battletome book. As far as tournaments, DoK is the way to go if you want more wins... they are still top of the meta from all I have read on here and other places. Sylvaneth will be MUCH easier to paint, especially using the Contrast paints. A downside to Sylvaneth is the reliance on Awakened Wildwoods and with a number of Heroes able to summon them it is going to cost a lot of money just for the scenery. A downside to DoK is no scenery at all and no endless spells. I actually like the Sylvaneth endless spells (although I want to mod that tree with the weird orraface - intentionally spelt wrong because it will be censored). Both armies can require a lot of models depending on how you build them but I think you get a bit more variety in builds with Sylvaneth. I still plan on doing a DoK at some point and hopefully by then the snake and wing ladies are as relevant to the build as Witch Aelves as they look way more fun to paint.
  15. Once you select your general there are pull-downs for the command trait/mount trait/artifact of power though. OP was asking about rules for them. The Reminders topic on this forum has a cool system for building pages to help you keep your selected items in front of you though.
  16. this was one of my chief requests when I participated in the survey earlier in the year and I reiterated it multiple times.
  17. I personally do not want to see Soulblight as an expanded faction. You have two vampires as Mortarchs and can run a Vampire force with either one more or less. and then you have the FEC which is sort of a Vampire led army as well. Vampires should be super elite and I just don't see a reason to expand them lore wise or figure wise compared to all the awesome possibilities the Mortal Realms hold. I do think Deathrattle or a Skeleton heavy army led by Wight Kings and Liche Masters can be aesthetically improved upon (the Underworlds Sepulcher Guard taken to 11 for example) and would make a different playing style hopefully than super ****** horde (zombies) to super elites (Morghasts and what I would think an all Vampire army would have to be). The rumors of either a Mongolian-esque thing or some throwback to TK don't really interest me all that much. Skeleton giants, ogres, dwarves, Skaven, Gobo's, maybe even monsters and big things... that interests me a lot. I used to have quite a large skeleton army 20+ years ago with chariots and archers and cavalry, a giant, a skeleton war mammoth and even a giant bone rhinoceros with howdah on his back (some of this stuff was not GW but I don't remember what was what). That type of aesthetic and play style could really alter the Death shtick in a good way.
  18. He didn't say. He just said "we now know" He did not reveal sources or anything else but I don't go to 4chan so no idea. Tom usually has a bit more than your average insight but like I said, some grains of salt might be necessary to digest this all. All of the rumors he stated fall in line with the mini trailers we have seen and hints given by GW but it could be wish list projection and/or just connecting dots based on these things.
  19. LoN has a Necromancer as their leader so a mage of sorts. Heroes and Mages can quickly tip the balance point. One of the things they have achieved with the controlled and "low profile" nature of the members of the warbands is to keep it in a state of easy balance. Abilities are tied to the warband itself and luck via doubles/triples etc instead of warscroll power creep. I hope they planned properly to scale up Warcry but if not I have lots of new models and scenery for AoS which is my primary interest anyways. And yeah, they are using this as a gateway drug to AoS and you can tell by the full page ad for the AoS Core Book on page 4 of the Warcry rule book (which I am not knocking in anyway).
  20. For anyone who hasn't watched it yet, on last night's Warhammer Weekly Tom says he got the scoop on the rest of the year for AoS In a nutshell, everything has gotten pushed back at least a month due to the Sylvaneth delay. Looks like Underworlds is getting moved up potentially to next month to fill a release hole caused by this. Cities and Orruks Tomes would be coming after or around this time as well. No mention about spells or terrain at this point. October is going to be Ogre tribes and the new Death faction. Toms says all finecast from Ogres is getting the axe and that a new Butcher model will be replacing. The cauldron will not be attached but a big ole meat feast will be the terrain feature with spells being a maw in the ground, an ever-winter thing, and a giant piece of meat (this one sounds kind of dumb to me). The new death faction will be Mongolian-esque and feature Ogre Skeletons (!!!). Apparently the Tithe of bones was that the Ogres offered up the skeletons of their dead once they ate them clean and it held the peace but this pact has been broken. Archer heavy Mongolian foot and mounted skeletons. This will be a dual/duel box it sounds like and dual Battle Tome at the same time. Last book of the year will be Tzeentch pushing Slaves/Everchosen into the new year along with the handful of hold-outs waiting on v2.0 tomes (Seraphon and K.O. anybody else left?) Tom has been right a lot in the past but somethings might need to be taken with a grain or two. All sounds pretty solid to me though.
  21. Not a rumor per say but last night I stopped by my local non-GW store to see about the few Warcry warband card sets I am missing. I picked up the Legions of Nagash but they too are out of Iron Jaws. He told me that if I don't see the ones I am looking for to try online as the only way he car restock them is to buy the entire box of mixed offerings. Apparently no one locally is interested in FEC. I am not sure what to make of them selling these cards as packages to the stores instead of on individual interest but now I am only missing FEC (which is readily available here and at the GW ) and Iron Jaws (which is currently not available around here). One other thing I noticed about Warcry while I was going through the non-Chaos warbands is that the fighter cards themselves have no names on them, just pictures of the miniature. This could be confusing at points if you are not using the exact miniature that they are showing I suppose but I found it odd that they don't reference the fighter name on these cards only on the overall warband card. Surprised they didn't use the Underworlds Grave Guard miniatures for the skeletons in the LoN warband, they are so much cooler than the ones they did choose to depict. Also interesting that this warband uses a Necromancer. Magic users are in the warbands but not used in a hero phase/wizardly process that we are currently used to. Makes them so much more simplified which is both good and bad.
  22. I personally love their models. I have a pretty cool Idoneth force using their Aelf girls on Stingrays as Akhelian Guard and their girls on weird wyrm things as Mossar Guards combined with the GW Turtle, Shark, and Akhelian king. I also use two of their witchy Lust Aelves as Tide Casters. It all looks pretty awesome together and I am really happy with the army but I obviously cannot play it in a GW store. My IDK hail from Ghur and have tamed even crazier beasts than eels for their riders which fits the lore hinted at in the book with the multitudes of dangerous creatures in the Mortal Realms. I got in on their Kickstarters and you get a ton of stuff with stretch goals and they are under retail at that point so the money goes a lot farther but yeah, they are pretty expensive. Seeing their behind the scenes stuff though, they do hire top talent for Zbrush sculpts and their relationship with their foundry was very interesting to see in their KS updates. Supposedly they have their own game coming (sounds cinematic and very Warcry-ish). Not sure it will be any good or anyone around my area will play it but in the meantime I do enjoy painting their models as alternate options for GW armies. I did another Kickstarter a while back from GT Studios and got an all female Ork warband that is really awesome as well. Yes they have big ****** but they are covered up with armor and clothing for the most part. I found them really fun to paint and have a great back story for them. I was hoping Warcry might have a bit more flexibility with customization and heroes so they might have to do a Path to Glory campaign instead.
  23. They restocked the entire line. I was having major problems finding the Aethermatic Blue and Talassar Blue but was able to pick them up. I now have 23 of the 34. I will probably get the rest at some point even though I have found a few of the colors to be a little redundant.
  24. I went into the local GW store in Los Angeles area just to get a few more Contrast Paints now that they restocked and they had the entire Warcry box set broken out and after holding several of the miniatures I changed my mind and picked up their last copy. I still think of Python's Sir Bedevere holding up his mask every time he talks when I look at the Iron Golems though... I am going to have to mod those I think. I also picked up a bunch of different armies' worth of the cards. This store sold out of quite a few before I got there but I did get DoK, IDK, Nighthaunt, Gitz, Stormcast, and Bonesplitterz. Staff said Iron Jaws sold out first and then the other Undead pack. Its a BIG box of stuff. Still torn on the rules vs regular AoS but I think it will be fun to go back and forth and maybe try some Path to Glory using the scenery/board size as well as building up some interesting Chaos mortals.
