  1. I want to get my mojo back and paint stuff up. I am trying to work through some stuff for memoir 44 which is a world war 2 game. I also have a couple of Bloodbowl teams in need of painting. I want to clear out my collection of painted minis so someone can get some enjoyment from them. I will be running a wfrp campaign and would like to get back into wargaming if the time allows.
  2. I went for other. I’ve not played aos since the pandemic despite loving it before then. I do keep on top of what gw are up to and stop by tga everyday. But I have found so many fun games that my main game cycles on a regular basis. Currently it’s WArhammer fantasy role play, Gloomhaven and memoir 44. Am looking forward to epic and some guys at my club are getting into Mordheim which looks interesting
  3. Chaos-order alliance confirmed! That’s double plus good
  4. Just got back into Warhammer fantasy roleplay after playing soulbound. Loving the quality of the books across the full range. Really nice to just flick through and read bits of. I had forgotten how much I like the old world. Starting a campaign in ubersreik on Thursday, my poor players won’t know what hit them
  5. Will be interesting to see what they do re khorgorath, khorgus Khul, bloodstoker and bloodswcrator as I assume the goreblade war and box is being replaced with the vanguard box.
  6. It would be great to see the ip licensed out properly. I could see a company like CMON being interested to see what they could do with a Warhammer license. They seem very interested in applying their brands and ideas to as many IPs as they can already. I will say though, that if you are interested in board and card games then go and check out board game geek or sites like shut up and sit down. Your wallet may not thank you though - it is a golden age of gaming
  7. The GW of the 80s definitely would be making board and card games. But the GW of today is more mini focussed and rules second. They are clearly market leaders in minis but I don’t think they would take the risk / investment into the board game arena. It’s very competitive and crowded space that GW would need to invest heavily in for potentially marginal returns. Most games disappear unless they are truly special eg Gloomhaven, memoir 44, nemesis etc. the rules, depth and crunchy-ness of these games blows GW out the water. I recently introduced 7 other people at my club to Gloomhaven and the consensus was he games like cursed city were like riding a bike with stabilisers on. Saying that, some games developer could do an amazing job with the Warhammer IP or even simple reskins. Memoir 44 would make an amazing mini Warhammer game, nemesis would make a great looking space hulk type game, betrayal at house on the hill just oozes chaos corruption, eclipse or twilight imperium as a 4x simulation of the galaxy at war. Heat is squig races and so on. I think this is a more likely route, assuming these manufacturers want to get into bed with GW and some of their practices.
  8. It’s the same in my group for both 40k and AoS. We went from the club being exclusively GW Warhammer games to practically everything else. The reasons generally come down to irritating rules, constant book buying, badly thought through army design eg votann, which get needed before being released. The models are considered awesome but the games need improvement. I have missed having my khorne army out. But I have very much enjoyed the different games and systems being played - asoiaf, corespace, godtear, memoir 44, Bloodbowl, gooomhaven, soulbound, and so on. The atmosphere has been great. The club is full almost every week with up to 6 players ar some tables for games. P are laughing and not arguing about inconsistent rules. Saying that boarding actions has raised some interest for a 16 player tournament. I think due to the streamlined rule set and smaller force sizes. I can’t see the big Warhammers getting much of a hold again
  9. I’ve barely played aos since 3rd dropped and it’s the same for both groups I go to. The pandemic killed second ed off before it got going and I wish gw had delayed third as a result. I’m seeing 40k go a similar way since the pandemic. One group which was heavily 40k now plays a huge variety of games and almost all 40k and aos has gone, the other has switched to Horus heresy. I am very much enjoying the wide mix of games I play now - soulbound and alien rpg, core space, Bloodbowl, memoir 44 and a range of modern board games. Plus more are on going at the club. It’s lots of fun and always packed. we will be doing a path to glory, but I worry it will fail mainly due to the too many games to enjoy and not enough time factor leaving limited dates for people to play. Bloodbowl on the other hand has been a huge success
  10. Not had much painting time recently. But I would like to complete the 3 npcs from the core space starter set. Anything else is a bonus
  11. I would say painting, reading rules and then gaming. I have plenty of built models now so have not done a lot on that front. I have loads to paint due to buying various board games recently. So that is taking up most of my time. I am running a few board game campaigns. Gloomhaven, Core Space and Core Space First Born with different groups so often have a couple of games a week on the go. then reading rules to make sure I can run the campaigns socia media and browsing sites, games and forums also takes up a lot of time too warhammer itself is quite low down, but there are two slow grows coming up in the near future where I live so I plan to try to play a game in each once or twice a month to help grow interest in that system
  12. I have been really down on AoS so not painted anything GW for several months. I have however been painting things for lots of other systems and games. All sci fi stuff from many manufacturers and I got a like from someone well known in the field not sure why some photos are upside down. I checked and my kitchen where I paint has not been vertically transposed
  13. If this was a uk football match, it would be at about this point the crowd would be chanting “you don’t know what you’re doing” to I the opposition/their manager. Given this slurry of updates I feel like chanting it now to GW.
  14. I got momentarily excited when there was an update announced, then I saw it. Nothing more I can say which hasn’t been said. The armies of Lord Blackraven will sit on the shelf a while longer 😞
  15. Nearly all my games in 3rd Ed have been at 1000 points and it really feels like a sweet spot. It’s fast, you don’t get lost in the rules and new abilities, it’s FAR easier to reach. Plus 1000 points is an interesting value to build lists, you can fit most things in but you need to know your army to get the most from the few things you can get on the table. So different to 2k where games lasted hours and often didn’t finish. I am finding it hard to go back to 2k
  16. I came to the realisation some time ago to not stay wholly on the gw Fomo treadmill. It was quite an eye opener. the number of times rule sets turned out to be poor and the amazing model was not worth it was quite high. Coupled with my exploring non gw product. There is an amazing selection of games and models out there. I would much rather spend my hobby money and time on items that are fun. And that means more than GW. Hosting a game of nemesis for example and having members of the clubs I go to in howls of laughter for hours, exploring other IPs I love, pushing my painting skills on different types of models that *gasp* are not covered in skulls. It’s been and continues to be a great journey. I chose to explore all the hobby, and enjoy gw but I also enjoy the other options out there. It’s a golden age for gaming, don’t miss out. You are free to spend your money how you want, enjoying what is out there can be done on a budget and is far more pleasant than being tied to big price increases on stuff you don’t really need.
  17. So Khorne does struggle at small points values. However it does have freedom to build a force you like. Personally I am a big fan of skullreapers so I like the list with them in. They hit hard and are hard to kill.
  18. I will finish painting my Aliens scenery pieces and I am thinking of painting my Idoneth eidolon.
  19. I’ve been working on some simple scenery pieces for some of my board games. Nothing exciting, just crates and computers supplied by Weyland Yutani. I think I got a nice yellow. I have also been advising my nephew on painting and he proudly sent me this kharadron boat he did.
  20. Wow GW have seen how to make an even worse bloodtithe system
  21. Surely having 2 counts as the same trigger effect so if two thrall masters affect the same unit then you have to pick one of the effects.
  22. Small foot heroes can be added to a unit on set-up. The unit and leader fight at same time, unit acts as ablative wounds, gets benefit of the bravery, command abilities are measured from leader model. Ranged weapons get less powerful at longer ranges. So it becomes a trade off, keep the unit out of charge range but do less damage. Maybe even the other way where they get more powerful at close (out of melee) range. Consistent rules writing, it’s not hard! Plenty of other games from companies with fewer resources manage to avoid these frustrating ambiguities or outright mistakes. Digital download of al the rules together with updates added in. Trying to teach this game is a mess, here’s the core rules, you’ll also need this battle pack from a different book, make sure you have the latest warscrolls, no not the one in the box you just bought, got your battle tome? Ok those sexy battalions can’t be used, did you get the latest faq? How about the latest designer commentary? Got the latest points? What do you mean you used the points in the gh/battle time, they are out of date you need this downloadable document, do you have white dwarf. 479? It has two pages of rules that slightly tweak your army but give you one great ability. Honestly, take up would be al lot better if this was streamlined eg one page rules. If I have the physical tome then I should have access online.
  23. This is proving tricky. The Gloomhaven Voidwarden is quite a project. The white dress along with dark pattern is hard to get neat. However I am pleased with her scarred face. Any suggestions for the dress gratefully accepted
  24. Work in progress on the Gloomhaven Demolitionist. The flames from his boots need finishing off. But otherwise close to being done
  25. I pledge to finish the Voidwarden and Demolitionist characters from Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion. After that I am not 100% sure which models to paint, so I will select and paint some fun stuff as the mood takes me and continue to regain my mojo.
