  1. I imagine it'll go back to normal once box set FOMO wears off haha. That being said I have seen a lot of "jumping into AOS for the first time" or "been away from the hobby for about 6 years" posts on the gloomspite facebook group when the Looncurse box came out. I think it garnered a lot of new blood into AOS in general, whether its 40k players, brand new players, or people that left because of the old world exploding etc.
  2. The only thing that worries me is that I feel like Gloomspite is at a really rad place right now. They aren't sweeping the tournament scene but they are still placing in top 10s and top 3s. I am mortified that if they made too much in the way of adjustments it could easily go too far. There are obvious units that aren't really taken as often like the Shootas for instance or Gobbapalooza etc. that could use some tweaking and maybe small adjustments on some of the others but I just really hope they don't overdo it.
  3. Really surprising numbers so far! Looks like there are almost as many Gloomspite players as Stormcast. 😮 This might be tied to the fact that there are so many armies within that army namely Squigs, Grots, Trolls, and Spiders and the box set just happened but interesting nonetheless!
  4. Thought I would do a grand update to the 2018 what armies do you play poll. This would be the armies you consider your main/primary armies, since some people literally collect almost every army. It bears mentioning that this time around I am only using the armies as listed on the GW website in the format they are listed on said website + the Legion of Azgorh from forgeworld, so please spare me the vitriol re: no Tomb Kings or Brets. I don't mean to cause offense. If the armies are added back to the GW website for sale in the coming years I will certainly add them to the poll. Also I have a link below to the google form as well if you want to use that but this will require a google sign in so someone can't submit their response 100 times etc. https://forms.gle/6Fu72YJTmftf89iHA Cheers! PS: A sticky would be rad!
  5. I think they will perform well, but I don't see them sweeping events. I think they might make the occasional top 10 every now and again like gloomspite, but nothing like Skaven/FEC/DOK. The guy that won Brisvegas 5/0 with them has been playing Fyreslayers from the get-go, and he is very experienced with them. The 30 Hearthguard block is a good wildcard if you don't know what to do against it or weren't prepared and walk right into it "push up the board and hope for the best" style, but even just sniping out the priests/battlesmith with shooting/magic (which is fairly easy to do for the non-melee focused armies) totally neuters the army. And they just FAQ'd battlesmith stacking too. Plus if they aren't running Vostarg, the lack of movement will be a definite liability.
  6. Stormcast and Nurgle both are great defensively. Honestly though Legions of Nagash too in that they can bring back units that have been wiped out and heal up units so become quite durable in that sense. You won't really find many/any defensive or static gun line armies in AOS because unlike WHFB its not just about killing your opponents army, it's about movement and taking objectives.
  7. Fyreslayer characters only have their armor, and none are higher than 4+. You can get that to 2+ with buffs but they are still prone to mortal wounds from magic. I have blasted my friends characters off with my doomfire and pit of shades pretty reliably. They have no ward saves. DOK do though because Hag Narr. And Fyreslayers have no dispels from characters. Their only option is one artifact you can take for a runemaster or runesmiter that lets you attempt to dispel two spells as if you were a wizard. But like I said, most people intend to play with lodges and all of the lodges have artifacts you have to take first, so besides Greyfyrd to get another you would have to take a battalion, all of which are over 100 points. This topic is getting a little derailed though. Below are the tournament standings from AOS 2.1 and 2.2 from honest wargamer. This should kind of speak that something needs to be done to balance things a bit.
  8. Well not exactly. Fyreslayers are much more prone to magic/mortal wound sniping and endless spells/shenanigans because they lack inherent options for dispelling if you don't take the ash rune artifact and if you are rolling without allies. And all of the lodges have command trait and magic item requirements so to get an extra artifact you have to take a battalion to get the ash rune for two dispel attempts and there are many more tasty items than the ash rune. You can snipe DoK Characters sure, most notably the hags, but witch aelves even with just the hag narr cauldron nearby still whoop total behind. Fyreslayers almost require character support to be good.
  9. I have already played against the 30 strong HB block and its not that bad for DoK to handle. You can lock it down pretty dang good with the shackles. Sure you might not be able to wipe them out with a 2+ rerolling 1s and a 4+ ward but just snipe out their priests and battlesmiths. Fyreslayers are all about their characters and a unit of 10 doomfires instant gibs their foot characters with doomfire unless they have auric hearthguard nearby. Not to mention Witches cause MWs on 5+ with martyrs sacrifice, on 6s with their shields, and would have a 4+ save in combat, a 5+ save after, and can reroll their 5+ Hag Narr save. They will likely be rerolling wounds and maybe hits too. Witches also have run and charge inherent and a naturally higher move. And unless you ally it in or take the artifact in an army already stretched thin for artifacts then the fyreslayers have no way to dispel so you can likely count on mindrazor or the aforementioned doomfire as well. That's as an aside though. My point is that DoK really do need to be toned down, and anyone that follows any major tournaments or has friends that speak with them candidly will tell you that. It's the ones that bought 90 witch aelves that will claim everything is fine.
  10. I have played Daughters since before they got a battletome and I want them to be re-balanced, not nerfed. Everyone at my game store hates when I use them and it kind of sucks. I have to take close to a full 400 points of allies and avoid witch aelf/sisters of slaughter hordes and multiple hags just to not have to get those glares across the table. My list looks very far and away from the standard DoK netlist when I do use them and I still get the side eye just because of the rep they get as the OP tournament army. Unless you only care about winning games and not the experience of your opponent then you will want the army to be "balanced".
  11. I saw the same damn thing and felt much the same. All I can think to do is clip it off right at the skin line, round off the top so it looks like a normal mushroom, and then pin it back into spot flush to the skin so it looks a little more natural.
  12. Yeah I am with you on this one wholeheartedly. It feels like reaching (I'll see myself out 😂) to be extending the secondary effect like that. I would say at this point to submit it to GW's FAQ team and wait it out rather than potentially starting a disagreement that could cost you friendship points on this one though. Having opponents that enjoy the game (even if a little painfully gamey at times), is a valuable commodity, at least where I live.
  13. I am assuming they wouldn't be able to modify the rules so I was mostly thinking about points costs. Obviously it would go a long way to have their ranges on prayers and buffs be changed to "wholly within" like a lot of the new books have had so they can't conga to the hag narr/cauldron buff etc.
  14. Would have put this up in with the DoK thread in order but figured it needs it's own. So with the third iteration of the Generals Handbook right around the corner what do you feel like the army would need in order to be brought in line with the more mid-high mid tier armies coming into the new season? I am personally expecting the horde discount for witch elves and sisters of slaughter to go away along with the Hags doubling in cost, maybe even use the opportunity to cap the witch elves/sisters at 20 strong. And maybe a bump up for Morathi, but I don't think she is that insane for her point cost as is. I am not sure though as this is going to be really tricky to get right as they don't really modify the rules and most of the strength of DoK comes from the synergies available in the army. I would also love to see Lifetakers, Blood Stalkers, and Bloodwrack Medusae on foot to drop in a points a bit so we could start seeing more use out of them. Hopefully endless spells and the scenery piece would happen at some point but I am not counting on it. Thoughts?
  15. Settra reviles Nagash. With every fiber of his being. It makes more sense for him to be on Sigmar or Chaos' side then it does Death. I just had a thought of how cool it would be for them to make an Order Undead army (even though Order is already super saturated), because that's essentially what Tomb Kings were in WHF anyhow.
  16. Going to have to disagree with you here. I would maybe put them at Beasts of Chaos or Gloomspite's level, but not in the bin with Idoneth/Daughters/Maggotkin/FEC/LON. If you tailor into any of the builds you mentioned the army starts getting REALLY small IMO and then you will have a time contesting/taking objectives with units that move 4" and don't inherently run and charge unless you choose that lodge. The strongest top tier armies are strongest because of how well they can control the board, and how fast and hard they are able to hit early in the game. I'm just not seeing it with Fyreslayers but maybe time will tell. I would be interested in seeing your top tier competitive Fyreslayers list though. The Lofnir list is potentially a hard counter to FEC but the command ability requires the priest to get within 12" of the target and that can be problematic/dangerous unless you have him on a Magmadroth (which you should) but then you can't pass off wounds to the aurics.
  17. The only thing that can move over the wall is units that can Fly and the Magmadroths.
  18. Are we talking about the same army book? I am talking about this one pictured below. It was actually a really fun army. Sure the horsemen and tomb swarms were ****** but still, the army had some tricks the Necropolis Knights and Tomb Guard were great. The previous incarnation however was absolute trash, almost as bad as the 6th edition dark elf book pre-revision, except for maybe the shenanigans you could pull off with the Icon Of Rakaph Tomb Guard or the Hieratic Jar/Cloak of Dunes liche priest. I know you used to play Tomb Kings as well because I remember you from those forums, so I am honestly kind of confused. Sure they weren't Daemons/Dark Elves/Vampire Counts, but it wasn't a terrible book.
  19. So people can not play them again? They had an 8th edition book that wasn't even half bad and hardly anyone played them. I would much rather they focus on the other armies that they haven't brought in line in AOS personally.
  20. I thought it was great. They are field forges for the Fyreslayer expeditions. That aside I mean AOS takes place on elemental planes where frogs pilot spaceships and sharks fly. It is magic.
  21. It will likely be comparing Dwarves of WHFB to the Kharadron Overlords in how different they are. I think to an extent they want them to BARELY look like Aelves for copywrite purposes, but I don't think they will take it too far.
  22. I mean its good but he is also quite a lot of points at 300 points and only has a 4+ save and wouldn't get cover or anything along with a random movement characteristic.
  23. Contrary to what people have been saying, the only keyword requirement for the Snufflers is "Moonclan". It's the Sporesplatta that requires "Moonclan Grots"
