Great analysis! Love videos like this and look forward to more like this.

may I ask on slide 10 where you are using your pile in to extend your charge you end the charge with models 4 inches from the enemy unit to the right. After you pile in you are 2 inches from the enemy unit. Could you have piled in one more inch and then attacked the second enemy unit with a 1 inch range weapon?

Yeah, if I was 4 inches, then I should have been at 1" with an attack if they had 1" weapons (or more attacks with 2" weapons).  Great catch!

Wow, great tips! Just wanted to let you know.

i'm a relatively new player and videos like these help me alot in understanding the game and getting my plays to a next level. At lot of the time if still find it hard to decide my movement because it is hard to decide when i dont reallyknow the strengths and weaknesses of the units of my opponent. A video on general movement and tips would be most welcome :)

keep up the good work! Cheers!

Thanks!  I'll keep the suggestions in mind.

Great tips Tom. Of course, if your opponent is wise to it, he can negate the hook by simply piling his models into base to base contact with yours. Models in base to base cannot move any closer and therefore cannot rotate/pivot. i think that was covered in an FAQ.

Yep, it definitely was.  This is why most of the examples I gave were pile ins right after charges.  The specific example was from models he was removing which allowed me to pile in through his line and hook in the skyfires from behind.

@Thomas Lyons funny you ask. I just got done listening to Warhammer Weekly and when you described what your list did I thought it sounded a lot like mine. You even kind of confirmed it with David who I played game 2.

I don't recall seeing your army out but from what I remember from this week's episode you were running Sayl, 20 Warriors of Chaos and Blightkings in a Plaguetouched Warband. Buffing the large unit of warriors then launching them forward with Sayl. The ability to project a large block of super sticky warriors into my opponents line would definitely improve my list competitively. They cannot be ignored as they can take objectives but are almost impossible to clear out in 5 rounds.

Were you also running The Glotkin?

Also, I am leaning toward a list that is more mobile and has rend.

I love the show and thanks for the feedback!

I didn't have my army out for judging b/c I didn't have a board (b/c I didn't plan on even competing this weekend).  The list is:

    • 140  Harbinger (Cunning Deciver Trait, Chaos Talisman)
    • 120  Mounted Chaos Sorcerer (Crown of Conquest)
    • 540  28 Chaos Warriors
    • 60  10 Marauders
    • 60  10 Marauders
    • 60  10 Marauders
    • 180  5 Blightkings
    • 180  5 Blightkings
    • 140  Plaguetouched Warband
    • 240  Belakor
    • 160  Sayl
    • 120  Reinforcement Points (Options Below)
      • 10 Plaguebearers (100)
      • 10 Chaos Furies (120)

No, I don't have Glottkin.  I did at one point in time, but over the past 6 months I've slowly come to realize that he's a trap.  The Harbinger is a much better general and Belakor does a lot more for his points comparatively. If I need something killed that is tough to crack, I throw Belakor at it and Belakor is a piece I can afford to sacrifice.  The same can't be said for Glottkin.

I honestly think this list has the ability to compete with the hardest lists in the game currently.  I would highly recommend checking it out and giving it a test spin.  It has all the tools one needs with a couple left over.  I have a full write up of the synergies and tactics here.

After playing this list for about 4 months now I will probably retire it. I am usually assured to get get a major victory as long as I don't have to move very far. Otherwise I grind out 5 battle rounds with a decent chance of getting a minor victory. If I want to place in the top 3 at a major event like Adepticon I need a list that can get a Major win every time I play.

Did you see my Rotbringers/Mortal Nurgle list using the Plaguetouched Warband?  I ended up placing 10th but I was on table #2 during the last game at Adepticon.  It would allow you to use some of your current minis so you wouldn't have to fully start another force.

Awesome list! and awesome strategy. Love to see this inventiveness and love to see you were rewarded by doing so well!

(Only thing I'd say is Archaon's sword does specifically say it's two sixes before modifiers.)

Good call.  I hadn't ever used it on him so I'm glad to know that it doesn't work now before I try it ;-)  Looks like Be'Lakor will be stuck on Mystic Shield, Arcane Bolt, and Summoning duty :-)

Love the write up and thought process you put to your list. One question I have is don't those mortal wound kick backs only happen if you field your units in groups of 7?

Correct.  You must field a unit in a multiple of 7, hence the Chaos Warriors dropping in a block of 28 (i.e. 7x4).  Only the Chaos Warriors in this list kick back Mortal wounds.

A very cool list - I wish I would have seen it when I was there.  I did not realize you could break unit coherency when removing models as long as you don't move them again.  I had one opponent try to do this against me, but he was attempting to break his coherency with his pile-in move which per the rules you can't use a move to break coherency.

A very odd looking "unit" i'm sure once your conga gets removed, but well played!  I myself played 15 skyfires/Kairos/LoC and needed a double turn to even feel like I had a chance with my Khorne army.  So tough, but glad to hear you gave him a run for his money.

    Thanks!

Here are the FAQ's of significance to this tactic (literally all on pages 1 and 2, immediately following one another):
    58dbc1ec518d0_ScreenShot2017-03-28at10_01_36AM.png.876c58dd616f7f8983eba1439cd0bad1.png

So, looking at that zoning image, you can see the "T" formation the Warriors advance in with their Sayl-fly/charge.  Once engaged and you start taking causalities, you can remove those casualties from anywhere in the line (according to the FAQ), even if removing those casualties would break coherency (as per the FAQ question #1 above).  So, once I know that I am where I want to be with engaged units, I start pulling casualties from the gaps on the front lines between units and along the tail since I won't be able to move or pile-in if in doing could not reestablish coherency (as per the FAQ question #2 above).  The key is always to leave 1 model within 7" of the Harbinger so he is always within range of the bubble (as per the FAQ question #3 above).  Similarly, you just need that one guy in the back field to receive the buffs from the Sorcerer Lord (Daemonic Power or Oracular Visions and Inspiring Presence) and Sayl (Fly or Mystic Shield).

Leaving one guy near your starting line will keep all of your buffers far out of range of just about anything but long siege (48"), which almost no one is running.  You can fill your midfield with threat (with Belakor/Blightkings) or zone areas (with Marauders/Blightkings) so that high mobility ranged units either can't get close enough to pressure your buffers or they could be potentially killed with counter charges.

  8. Tyler did a wonderful job on the whole thing!  My role was primarily reading the rules, correcting overwhelmingly broken stuff (like the spell that previously granted a trigger of mortal wounds on a 6+ to wounds; like Skeleton Hordes needed this ;) ), and do all of the pointing.  So if anything is underpowered or overpowered compared to the points, you can blame me.  Some of the stuff are right on the edge, meaning that they're a very good value for their points, but I don't think anything is an auto include for its points.  Otherstuff likely won't see the table most of the time simply because you would have to build around them (Khemric Titan).  It was definitely a fun project and I'm glad Tyler invited me to be part of it :)

Are you sure that wasn't a giant volcano?

Sounds like a great game and what a way to start the weekend!

I was surprised by the Vulkite cost too. I cannot help preferring them over the Hearthguard Berserkers sadly, although I should try them in 20s.

It was brutal.  Those stunties will arguably be the most competitively costed battleline in the game if this goes live as it is.  The fact that they can gain deep strike and reroll all wounds for only 80 more points is frankly insane (and Kenny wasn't even running them in their most optimized form with rending pick and shield).  I forsee many mixed Order forces using them moving forward at 60 for 5.

  10. Yeah, fanatic screens are the big issue imo and not one this force can easily get around.  With all the destruction in the meta right now (dozens at Blood and Glory?), it would be hard to get the right matchups with this force.  One change that I would consider making is dropping the third dragon for 4 mounted dragon nobles which could give you rerolls on the important charges, are smaller so you can land more of the strategic charges, give you a higher model count with additional heroes for points of power, and yet still are punchy on the charge.

It's part of our friendship.  We've been gaming with each other for two decades now and our bickering sounds like an old married couple at this point.  The contrarian in each of us won't allow us to agree with the other :-)

    Very sweet army!

Love the conversions of the artillery and spider crew.

As you can see I'm also a fan of the Rogue Idol - I like your diorama.

You have to basically covert everything when there are only two kits :-) I really love the Rogue Idol model too, although it is a bummer it only bonuses greenskin orcs now :-(
