  1. Anyone know where its actually for sale? It says the first issue came out yesterday on the website but I popped into GW today and they said they have no idea when its coming out. I'm guessing the 16th is when it released in select locations and it may get wider release later?
  2. Yeah, it sounds good. I have no intention of collecting a Stormcast army or Destruction but I wouldn't mind painting a couple of different models just for fun. Might look into picking the odd issue up if there are cool models.
  3. I'm a bit confused...so for £2.99 you get three models, dice and the magazine. This seems ridiculously cheap for GW, what's the catch? Or is it only available if you pay for a massive subscription, can you buy the magazines individually and still get the models?
  4. I've made some fairly solid progress on my Marauder Horsemen goal, the horses are all painted up and I've done the basic green stuff work I need to do to get the new heads to fit. Painting of the riders has been hampered by a couple of things however. For one thing the weather has been awful so I haven't been able to prime anything and my riders remain as grey plastic. I also picked up another unit to paint 🙈 been looking at the direwolves models for a while and think they are super cool and would make great mutated hounds of chaos so took the plunge. They are all built and based and awaiting priming too, think they should be fairly simple and quick to paint up so hopefully they aren't too distracting. Since I don't have anything primed to paint, I spent some hobby time converting some of my spare Chaos Warriors into Chosen. Still need to go through and clean them all up but think they came out super cool, really happy with them.
  5. Quick noob question about the Ravagers' Rally the Tribes battle trait...does the unit rallied (10 marauders, 5 horsemen or 10 cultists) have to be one that was originally part of your army and has been wiped or can it be a completely different unit? In the second case does the unit need to be included in the list and count to the points total or is it a free bonus unit? Thanks!
  6. Like many it seems I had a slow January and only managed to paint five Marauder Horsemen so I'm going to set my goals a little low this month and pledge to paint five more. So far I've base coated the horses' skin and hair so at least have made a start. In an ideal world I will also paint: 7 x Chaos Warriors and 6 x Corvus Cabal, this will leave me with no unpainted models at all which is a nice spot to be in. I'm moving to a new country next month and I'd like to take my stuff but hopefully will travel with no gray plastic!
  7. WOuldn't let me include this image in the above post so here's the full unit...
  8. Absolutely love this! Looking forward to seeing more of it, nice one. I have managed to reach a semi-milestone...finished off my remaining three axe wielding Marauder Horsemen so finished up the first of my two units, just need to go the bases. Technically should finish off the next unit of 5 for my pledge but I randomly woke up with an urge to paint a Mortek Guard the other day so ordered one off eBay...
  9. I am having a very slow month, mainly getting distracted by Ghost of Tsushima, so only managed to complete one model so far 🙈 My pledge was to convert and paint my remaining nine Marauder Horsemen, decided I'm going to build them as two units of five so step one is to get the lads with axes painted up then the remaining five will have javelins. This morning I finished up the leader of the axe unit, converted using some spare Corvus Cabal bits and the feather banner from the Dark Angels. I also have finished one other horse and base coated most of the remaining two so some small progress being made. I'm not very good at batch painting, as soon as they start to get remotely half started I just want to paint one through to completion so its likely I'll end up tackling the rest one by one.
  10. Really enjoyed taking part in this last month so I will be back! Taken a bit of a break from painting over Christmas so should be refreshed and ready to go once I get home in the New Year. I am pledging to finish my Marauder Horsemen. Only nine to paint but they will also involve my first ever experience with green stuff and some very minor sculpting/prodding (I need to build some necks as the Acolyte heads have none). IF I finish them in time I think I will reward myself with a new purchase...so far its a toss up between: Pink horrors - really like the models and the split mechanic is cool but I will need a lot of blue horrors to actually use them Blue horrors - kinda the same models, still have the split mechanic and the brimstone horrors come included, miss out on a level of wounds though Dire wolves - want to use these as chaos hounds, think they would be quite quick and easy to paint Cockatrice - would be fun to paint a monster and it would really fit the lore of my army I'm building up in my head
  11. A question on horrors...I really want to have some horrors as an ally unit in my slaves to darkness army. I really like the models and the splitting rule is really cool as well as seeming pretty useful tactically. My main concern is how much you need to buy just to field 10 pink horrors. As I understand it you basically need a box of the pinks and two boxes of blues to cover the possibilities which comes in at 75 quid in the UK which is a lot considering around 50 quid of that is generally going to be off the table for most parts of the game. Just wondering if anyone has come up with any cool ways of figuring out a way to reduce the number of models you need? Or am I overestimating how much I would need? I was kinda thinking of just getting two boxes and painting them all in a half and half/morphing scheme blending between blue and pink and then using some kind of marker to signify which were blue and which were pink. Would this be accepted in most scenarios? Or should I just bite the bullet and pay up?
  12. Thanks I've really enjoyed getting back into this hobby over the last couple months. Took my army down to the local Warhammer store a couple times this week and played some games to learn the basic rules etc and had a blast. Now just fighting the urge to buy endless more units before I finish off the remaining stuff I gotta paint. At the moment this consists of: - seven chaos warriors (I have enough parts for ten apart from the cloaks so I'll need to pick some of them up from somewhere at some point) - six marauders (the corvus cabal ones as above) - ten marauder horsemen So quite a small pile of shame compared to some of the rest of you I'm sure 😂 I made a start on my horsemen, just wanted to paint a test model so painted up the horn blower. The other nine will have the Tzeentch Acolyte heads so going to have to play with green stuff at some point but as he's got the horn I got away with a head from the horsemen kit. Might add some more feathers at some point but really pleased with how the feathered banner pole came out. Managed to grab ten of them off eBay, from some Dark Angels' kit.
  13. Quick question...I've just bought a box of Marauder Horsemen and there's a difference in their warscroll between that included in the building instructions and in the battletome. For example: Marauder Javelins (as a missile) have a 9" range and 2 attacks in the instruction booklet but a 12" range and 1 attack in the battletome. Which one takes precedence over the other?
  14. Feel like I've somehow been painting shields all day, but my Corvus Cabal marauders are all done Really pleased with how they turned out and they were really fun to paint. I'm booked in to play my first ever game of AoS on monday as well so we shall see how they do! Not gonna pledge to challenge myself to another unit over Christmas but will be slowly working on a unit of marauder horsemen which should arrive in the next couple of days. Looking forward to some feathery conversions on those. Full army so far...
  15. Yeah, I hate basing! The texture paints really are a godsend I find, really don't like messing with real sand and dirt. Slap a couple of textures on, maybe a skull and then get dry brushing is all I manage. I've started painting the feathers on my final two marauders and also ordered some bits so I can convert some marauder horsemen in the future as well as a few chaos warrior bodies so eventually will up that unit to 20.
  16. Made some more progress, finished off the next four marauders and based the eight I have done. Two more to paint for the initial ten, not happy with one of my conversions however so need to do that first. Really happy with how they turned out. Full squad so far, still need to paint up the shields also.
  17. Finished off the champion today, sort of...only realised once I compared him to the rest of the unit that I'd painted his trousers the wrong colour 🙈 oh well, should be fairly simple to fix. The other guys: Still need to paint up shields and paint the bases but will wait till the rest of the unit is done and bash it out all in one go.
  18. I'm aiming to finish my Corvus Cabal, which will be used as Chaos Marauders. Seven models to go to get my initial ten finished then should have my first 500 points of my army done and I can try playing the game. Working on the unit champion today then will batch paint the remaining six. If that gets done I'll work on getting my Chaos Warrior unit up to 20 models and then add another 10 to the Marauders.
  19. Hi all, I'm returning to the hobby after many years (15-20?) out of it and have fallen back to the army I used to collect as a child, Chaos. Having grown up in the ages of square bases and all things Chaos coming in one nice big book I'm a little confused about some of the army building side of things and wanted some advice. Now admittedly I don't own any of the new books, so a lot of my questions could just be answered by "buy the books and look it up" but also having never played a game of AoS, I'd like to test the waters before plunging in. I'm definitely more keen on having an army with a theme that I think is cool rather than it be ultra competitive (although I'd still like to win the odd game) so my main plan is to build a sort of desert dwelling tribe who worship Tzeentch. To this end I imagine it being mostly mortal based (and more leaning towards Marauders than Warriors) but with a few of the smaller daemons (horrors, flamers etc) thrown in for fun. Having downloaded the AoS app, I have fiddled around on the Storm Forge section and with my (very basic) understanding of the rules I think I have enough to make a basic 500 point army. I spoke to the guys at the local GW and they said once its all painted I can bring them in for a practise/learning game. Here is what I have so far: Exalted Hero of Chaos, he will be my general. At present he is represented by one of the Warriors of Chaos from the Start Collecting Box. I grabbed him off eBay as a test model to see if I actually enjoyed painting. Eventually he will join a regiment and become a regular Warrior but for now his different pose (and glowing blue sword that I'm very proud of) mark him out as a bit special. Chaos Sorcerer Lord. He is represented by the Corvus Cabal Shrike Talon. I love this model and he fits the vibe of tribal shaman so perfectly. 10 x Chaos Warriors 10 x Chaos Marauders, converted from the rest of the Corvus Cabal box. Really like these models and think they make really cool Tzeentch themed Marauders with all their bird iconography. I want to continue this theme throughout the army, my Hero and all of my warriors have feathers on their weapons and shields and I have decided that all my unit champions will have a bird familiar. From my reckoning this comes to 495 points and looks legal right? I know that's probably not too important for a learn to play game but I'd like to start building things in the right direction. My understanding is that I need two battle line units which I have in the Warriors and Marauders and a general. So far so good but I'm still confused by a few things... Army type: Cabalists, despoilers, idolators etc...I really have no idea what these are and how they affect things. Other factions: As mentioned above, I'd like to include some of the daemons such as horrors but I think they are part of a separate army. Can I include these in this army and how would I do that? Likewise I want some chaos hounds but they seem to be part of the beastmen so not sure how I squeeze them in. Battalions: I've seen people mention these in lists on here, what are they? Sorry for all these noob questions, just trying to get a bit of a grasp on things as I'm already eager to purchase more stuff to paint and trying to focus my direction a bit! Thanks!
  20. Thanks for the welcome! Yes, I feel things used to be a bit more simpler back in the day, particularly with army building etc. I've seen some of the lists people have posted on here and I have no idea what half of it means! The article you posted was very useful however and has cleared some of that up quite a lot! Will have a browse on the goonhammer site and see what other useful nuggets I can dig up.
  21. Hi all, Like many before me I have found myself returning to this hobby after many many years out of it and not knowing anyone else who plays I thought this would be a good community to join. Have been watching painting videos on YouTube for around a year or so and finally decided to jump back into things properly a couple of weeks ago. I have started a Slaves to Darkness Army (which I hope to document in the painting forum) and hopefully soon will be able to field a small force and head to my local store to learn to play. I have no idea how the game works (my prior involvement was the much simpler time of square bases) so expect many stupid questions about rules. Cheers!
