  1. Can anyone ID these greenskins? Not sure whether they are Orcs or Gobbos
  2. My first reaction to these old models was disappointment, but as mentioned above the Brets, for example, will be easily proxied with cheaper, better alternatives. It made me wonder: Has GW decided to reduce the magnitude of its initial vision for TOW? There could be a number of reasons for this such as COVID, economic doom and gloom, or perhaps HH's performance was less than hoped for. Were GW hamstrung by their decision to announce the project so early? On the positive side, perhaps GW will decide to reprint sprues from starter kits. For example, The Brets from 5th edition, Dwarfs and Night Goblins from 7th etc. These would make good start collecting boxes. I remember they reprinted 40K 3rd edition model last year. So, it could happen.
  3. I doubt these boxes were part of game development like the old Dogs of War. I guess they are marketing's response to the economy. GW don't do discounts, sales of price cuts. So, their solution is selling in bulk with more boxsets. The same is true in 40k - there are so many battle forces, combat patrols, boarding parties these days. However, after Dominion, GW are perhaps cautious of flooding the AoS marketplace so a limited range for each grand alliance is a smart business move. Our nostalgia for the Old Dogs of War range probably clouds our judgment. I hope this range will be well received by average customer because it may encourage more of these boxes in future.
  4. Fingers crossed for big beards and even bigger hats. Legion of Argorh arrived during my hiatus, but, for me, they never hit the heights* of their glorious 4th ed debut.
  5. One of the things that drew me to COS was nostalgia. Essentially, now that I'm hitting 40, I can afford to buy all the stuff I wanted, but couldn't afford, when I was much younger. Gyrocopters, steam tanks, drakespawn riders etc. It would be a shame if all that were lost. As an example from another faction, I was pumped to see that Chao dwarfs may return soon, but the new centaurian and Horns of Hashut just dont do it for me. The same was true of the Legion of Asgaroth. I guess i don't really want new dwarfs. I want the big hats, beards, and tauruses from way back when. Also, I think the variety of options in our current battletome is awesome. So many ways to build and play. I think it's one of the best from 2.0. Personally, I would rather the new humans are presented as a new battletome. Then COS can just fade away into the background without an abrupt squatting.
  6. So, i recently took my young daughter to a kids museum and in one room they had a number of sandbox tables for her to play. They each had some form of loose basing materials with which to interact. They seemed like an interesting way to build dynamic terrain for smaller games or perhaps warcry. My daughter could also join in with Warhammer doll-play - shes still way too young for rules, but could play like a doll house. I think the choice of terrain building materials will important. Has anyone any experience with these kinds of tables. Kid friendly play-sand is generally too fine and unstable. What else could i use? Could i just pick up a variety of natural materials from a local beach or forest trail? All advice appreciated
  7. On the positive side, GHB 2022 must be coming soon. Hopefully this is just a short term bandaid to get us there. If nothing else, this may cause a few players to reevaluate their lists. Vanguard Raptors are already squishy, for example. I'll probably drop them to avoid sacrificing extra VPS. God knows I lost so many by trying to use Hydras and Kharibdryss in Ghur this season. Lorewise, its good to see that the Bonesplitterz can become a little more hunter centric again. Shame its too much to hope for for microfactions like the Scourge Privateers in COS to get a similar buff in a one page update though
  8. Honestly, I find a lot of GW products expensive. In many cases, they are more expensive than I would like to pay. So, I tend to spend a lot on the second hand market. ASFAIK Operating Margin comes before tax. So, I'd be more interested in seeing the Gross Profit Margin. I wonder if we, as a community, could agree upon how many cents on the dollar / pennies on the pound should earn. 30-40 seems appropriate to me. I'd like my toys to be cheaper, but 30-40% seems appropriate to me.
  9. This. I look forward to the next GHB to moving to new realm. My Kharibdryss and Hydra each give away more VPS bonus than they earn. Not to mention they have little to no staying power. As mentioned above Frostheart is useful. Sorceress on Dragon with Master of Magic (reroll 1 cast), an Arcane Tome (+1 cast), along side a regular Sorceress on foot and a chaff unit of Dreadspears (+2 to cast) is also very useful. Sorceress sacrifices an elf for spell portal on 3+ (Including +2 buff, and endless spells +1). Sorceress on Dragon sacrifices another elf for Vitrolic Spray on 6+ (inc +2 buff) and the Bladewind on 4+ (inc buff), rerolling 1 cast if required. This gives you a reliable 9 MW anywhere on the table. I play DE in Anvilgard and they arent the best option now. The DE sub factions would be in a much better position if the Freeguild General could buff our guys. Personally, I've enjoyed playing Misthavn recently. They are so far off meta that some opponents are surprised. Dropping 2 Hydras and a Dreadlord to buff >9" is fun. You can then move the dreadlord forward d6 for a command point to help with the charge. I use the new mount trait and then charge both monsters picking 2 of 3d6", Finally, the dreadlord charges last so as to avoid Unleash Hell. Drakespawn Knights in 10s can also be a nice anvil to drop on to objectives. Cons are that there is no spell lore and your friend will probably be using universal command traits and artefacts.
  10. Well said. Seems like this is the solution to most problems. Snipe vulnerable heroes and behemoths. Ignore the rest and play your own game
  11. Doomwheels are undoubtly cool, but we can't just make them battleline willy-nilly. The should become "Battleline If general is an Uber-Doomwheel Engineer." Im imagining a new center-piece big enough to roll over Mega Gargant. It'll be the Chaos equivalent of an all squig army.
  12. How about 30 Flags with Hallowheart warding brand. Charge them into a unit Cursed by a priest (Fishing for 6s). They may be dismissed as a distraction, but when your enemy does target they unit they will roll lots of 6s to hit (4 attacks / model), also they return MWs for units slain and fleeing. Then, if necessary rally and cast Lifeswarm will bring back lots more of the lunatics to win objectives with weight of numbers. But, as already noted, who wants to paint thirty of these?
  13. Can you give some examples? What kind of mechanics would you like to see?
  14. Ive heard a lot of chatter about “Dawnbringer Crusades” recently and its got me wondering about my largely unpainted dark elf collection (now coven, scourge, serpentis, shadowblades). I think these are all still awesome models (looking at you Kharibdryss 🔥) but the units take me a long time to paint. Tbh in my excitement with the new edition and SC tome they have languished at the back of a cupboard. My thinking was “i’ll get back to them.” Tonight it hit me though, what if they dont make it into a new tome? Once they slip into legends, they are unlikely to find table time locally. Then im going to be even less inclined to paint them. In a panic, i started throwing paint on Corsairs this evening… got to get them painted before they are retired!!! So, i guess i want to gauge peoples opinions: Do we think the dawnbringers will include COS entirely, partially, or not at all? Do we expect another group of models to move to Legends as happened when the Cities tome was released? Do you think the cities tome will be allowed to fade into oblivion, rather than being retired or replaced? personally, im fine with fading into oblivion with a suboptimal, but cool looking army. Worst case scenario for me would be legends.
  15. Am not sure, i follow. None of this occurred to me. Are we suggesting that if, for example, i take a Warlord Battalion for an extra enhancement, then instead of an artefact i can: 1) choose an second, different Holy Command? 2) choose the same Holy Command again so i can use it multiple times? 2a) if 2 is true, can i use the same Holy Command on the same unit? yes / no responses would be sufficient for now
  16. Whats the problem with using warcry cultists as marauders? I mean functionally, rather than performance wise. Is it just that they are missing marks of chaos? Any functional issue could be resolved with a quick rule change in white dwarf. So why not? My feeling is GW still want to milk those old models one more time. Eventually, the marauders can disappear alongside the older chaos warriors and knights. Then all gw need to do is some warscroll changes and release the sc box as individual units. Again, I wouldnt be surprised to see the sc S2D with a different hero make up half a battle box first though.
  17. This. Warcry terrain gets me much more excited than the actual game itsself
  18. Six legs makes these guys insectoid rather than arachnoid. So are these the Silent People from Beastgrave? Keywords like revelation and ascention also hint that they may be ready to come up from underground. The model looks good, but an alternate head without the spidey mask would be nice. Come to think of it, this really reminds me of Lokhir Fellheart. Now that is a cool model!
  19. Asking for a 40k player who’s interested in trying aos. He already had a number of Keepers already. How do the twins hold up in 3.0? Is one more popular / powerful than the other Do the twins earn their position in a daemon list? Are there any particular daemon lists that are popular atm? Does Belakor bring anything new to the party, or could Slaanesh run well in Legion of the First Prince? Cheers
  20. We can only be 7-8 weeks aways from the announcement of GW's annual Battleforce boxes. My baseless speculation is that we'll see one of each GA: Chaos - Hedonites of Slaanesh Dest - Great Waaaaaugh (Bonesplitterz & Ironjawz Mixed) Order - Lumineth Death - Ossiarch Bonereapers What do you think?
  21. Glad to hear your game with OBR went well. Seems like the Imperatant worked out well for you. Forgive me if im wrong. Are you sure 2+ save with Libs is possible? My understanding was that while save stacking is possible the net save may never be more than +1. Shields give Libs +1. Any further save buffs are used to mitigate rend. Thats why vindictors are prefered by many. They are battleline that can achieve a 2+ save. I was excited during previews about Knight Excelsior for paladin as battleline. This little list, however, may be just about enough to push me towards Hammers. That and Bastian. Thanks for sharing your experiences
  22. Hi, long time lurker. Im finally starting my first army with 3.0. Id like to use first generation models stormcast for the core. Ive got a few newbie questions base on the new battletome. For my first 1000 points i was thinking Army Faction: Stormcast Eternals Army Type: ??? Points Limit: 1000 pts Leader Lord-Relictor (TP/Curse/Bless) Battlefield Role: General Artefact: Arcane Tome Points Cost: 145 pts Knight-Incantor (Auto Dispell) Battlefield Role: Leader Points Cost: 125 pts Battleline Liberators Battlefield Role: Battleline Points Cost: 115 pts Liberators Battlefield Role: Battleline Points Cost: 115 pts Judicators with Skybolt Bows Battlefield Role: Battleline Points Cost: 200 pts Elite (1 of 3 units) Decimators Battlefield Role: Other Points Cost: 215 pts Protectors Battlefield Role: Other Points Cost: 225 pts Retributors Battlefield Role: Other Points Cost: 235 pts Endless Spells/Invocations Dais Arcanum (Either Relictor / Incantor) Points Cost: 55 pts Core Battalions Battle Regiment (1 drop) Triumph Indomitable (Battleshock Immunity) Total Points: 970-990 pts i realise this is list unlikely to set the word alight, and battleline like vindictors may be seen as better than liberators. But is a reasonable army core in 3rd edition? My rationale: My choice of Paladin would change to suit the opponent. im matching Decimator vs hordes Protector vs high rend opponents (defensive play style) Retributor vs high rend opponents (offensive play style) What other factors should i consider when choosing a paladin? I chose judicators over long-strike raptors as my primary ranged unit primarily due to number of wounds. I havent seen the new book yet so, im open to changing the Relictor’s artefact, but for now arcane tome lets him buff his save on the Dais. What would you add next? I was thinking Yndrasta would be a good support piece in the defensive army featuring protectors. Meanwhile, Celestant Prime would work well as a free agent in the offensive army with retributors. What offers further anti horde functionality? Any thoughts on how this build could work. Which subfactions should i consider when i get the book? TIA
