  1. I'm a skaven player, most of my games at the local shop are at 1k or 1.5k. Generally I find that 1k is enough to bring 2 battleline, 1-2 heroes, an elite unit, an artillery/support piece, and maybe a cheap piece of chaff to grab objectives. Games still take ~2-3 hours but we're playing casual and chatting and enjoying ourselves as we play. Easy enough to swap out stuff and try new units without getting bogged down. I quite like it. RE: board size, we're just playing right out of the GHB, and I find it has its own tactical considerations, makes it nice. In 2k sized games, its easy for an army to cover your entire deployment zone, grabbing objectives is a foregone conclusion as you have more than enough different units to reach everything. At 1k there's actual pressure on you, what you allocate where matters a lot more.
  2. For everyone unsure about the cost of these dragon models, I'm just gonna point out that these dragons are by no means the only dragon minis on the market, hell there's probably someone close to you that'd print off a whole high detail resin dragon mini for ~$20. Sculpt yourself a lil saddle and you've got a stew going
  3. I'm not a stormcast player, but that dragon points change seems good? Like, now an "oops all dragons" list will now be solely for the big dragon lovers, not also the competitive focused. But mixing 1-3 dragons into a normal stormcast list? That could still be p good. Also we can all be excited for GW to do balance adjustments pre-release instead of a month after release
  4. I don't know 'em but according to someone at my LGS who does OBR competitively, "that OBR one is actually hella good the HQs are sus but like add a liege kavalos to that and a soulmason and you're pretty well set" so that's one vote of for Good Value/Starter Set
  5. Okay after playing once (and probably making a bunch of mistakes) I'm second guessing my earlier posted list. Stormfiends are great but in a 1k list they're 1/3 of your army. Someone at the shop suggested I either go all in on big mates or all in on swarms, so here's the lists again: Current: Warlock Bombardier Clawlord 2x Clanrats Storm Fiends Warp Lightning Cannon 76 wounds, 990 pts Proposed: 2x Warlock Bombardier 2x Clanrats Stormvermin 3x Ratling Guns (hidden in the infantry of course) Warp Lightning Cannon 77 wounds, 1000 pts In my first game I definitely didn't get the best value out of my stormfiends or the clawlord, but I'm trying to gauge how things work
  6. To check, is there any general good idea list building benchmarks, like ~60-70 wounds per 1000 points, or anything like that?
  7. I myself am a new player who's working towards a 1k list, hoping I can post here and get a little feedback Allegiance: Skaventide Heroes Warlock Bombardier (125) General Artifact: Amulet of Destiny or maybe Vigordust Injector Command Trait: Masterful Scavenger Spell: More-More-More WarpPower! Clawlord (105) Command Trait: Verminous Valor Battleline Clanrats x20 (130) Clanrats x20 (130) all with rusty blades Units Stormfiends (315) shock gauntlets, ratling cannons, warpfire projectors Artillery Warp Lightning Cannon (185) Total: 990/1000, 76 wounds General goal is to get the clanrats forward to screen and gum up the battlefield, the Clawlord leading one pack to give them some extra punch, preventing them from being ignorable. The clawlord will stay alive through the "Verminous Valor" command trait (which he gets due to the Clan Verminous rule "Mighty Warlords"), letting him pass off successful wounds to the clanrats on a 4+. While the clanrats are being an anvil, the stormfiends can pick a target and hammer them hard. The Bombardier should stay safe at the back, casting buffs onto the stormfiends and letting the warp lightning cannon overcharge to hopefully pick off a hero or elite unit in the first turn or two. Collecting wise, this is the mandatory basic battleline (personally purchased for cheap off ebay) plus a "Rattachak's Doom Coven" collecting box, and a clawlord. I wasn't sure if the clawlord should instead be a plague priest, but it seemed like the list could use some extra melee power so the rats can be more than a one turn speed bump.
  8. Good call, FEC has one of the bet start collecting boxes too. Even if a new book comes out with a bunch of crazy radical changes, you'll still have a great solid base no matter what
  9. Have you seen the Dancing Yak Miniatures version of chorfs? Some good 'n goofy sculpts there. take a scroll here
  10. I could be misjudging it, but the new Battalions seem p cool, like they're similar to the default core rules ones but tweaked slightly to fit the army.
  11. I don't know Slaves to Darkness but it seems like a decent patch, kind of what the FAQ/errata would be in an ideal world. The open play stuff seems nonsensical / frustrating, but the path to glory stuff seems great.
  12. There's the new leaked Slaves to Darkness pages, lemme figure out how to grab those out of the heywhoah discord
  13. I do enjoy choosing my model's pose, changing things up, customizing the base, etc. That and sometimes it's much easier to paint if you assemble the main body, paint that, paint then glue on the backpack/arms/weapons so they don't get in your way when you're painting.
  14. I will say as a new AoS player (did 40k as a child so I'm familiar with warhammer/GW usual business though) that the base rules being split between the Core Rulebook and the General's Handbook is wild. The free core rules don't contain all the battle styles, and the core rules don't contain the battleplans. So if you want to see the full rules for play thats $60 + $40 before you even buy a battletome. It's ridiculous that in 40k you need to buy a codex and then a sub codex for most of the factions (lol space marines, perpetual spotlight hogs) but I don't think "buy 3 different rulebooks to learn the game" is a good idea. Then again, I guess it's working for DnD.
  15. Hey y'all, hoping to pick your brains on a thing. I'm building up towards a 1000 point skaven army, and am trying to figure out what to get in the last 115 points. So far, I own: warlock bombadier 20 clanrats 20 clanrats 3 stormfiends warp lightning cannon Which sets me at 885/1000. Now I'm new to AoS, but it seems like having more than one leader is a good idea, so I've mostly been focusing my attention in that direction. Options are: Plague priest (85 pt), seems like the mortal wound dealing prayers aren't too bad, seems okay in melee, but there's the downside of it'll kill some of the clanrats that it'll probably end up close to. Clawlord (105), scary in melee, buffs a block of rats to fight better. I'm nervous about a 5 wound hero surviving very long though, seems like he might get blown away before getting a chance to do anything. Deathmaster (115 exactly!), probably not the strongest pick but can hide in clanrats until they get closer to an enemy leader/monster to hopefully do a good burst of damage. Is there anything else I should be looking at or considering? Would I actually be okay with the one leader hanging back, and then put a warpfire thrower inside a clanrat block and I guess a unit of giant rats to round it out? (70+40)
  16. Don't name drop like that! Sure, GW probably knows about wahapedia, but no reason to remind them and point them directly at their source of lost sales (in their eyes)
  17. Oops, my bad. Sorry for the misleading info, I don't personally own any orcs or orruks or orks, assumed the unit would've been sold separately. I'll edit my post in a sec.
  18. I wish there was some shareholder annual report or something like that so we could see sales numbers, I wonder if the bonesplitters have sold poorly. I know at some point it was leaked that Tomb Kings and Brettonia always sold poorly (hence them not getting the jump to AoS) but current data over years old data could be interesting.
  19. .... uh yeah. Yup. No anarchists here! Whew, that sure would be scary. I have no qualms with the state and don't have long rants about "hierarchy" or other nonsensical topics. Just a boring ol' mini wargaming fan here.
  20. I understand why old lines get squatted and all that, it just feels weird that the most wild and free living faction (fits the most onto ghur) who have always had monster hunting specialists (with 3.0 having such a focus on monsters) are getting forgotten. I'm assuming that GW has sales numbers and is kind of swapping them out for kruleboyz, EDIT: the following isn't true, I misunderstood where Big Stabbas came from. but it's weird that the anti monster unit (the two orcs holding a giant spear) isn't even on their online webstore any more. Not a "sold out online" stamp over it (like most bonesplitters) but completely disappeared.
  21. Honestly to me it feels more like beastmen belong in destruction but are just in chaos due to old hangovers from the old world lore. Never really thought they fit chaos that well, they've kind of got their own thing going on, but OG fantasy didn't have grand alliance categories to put factions into.
  22. Just this friday I was thinking that the tree spirits army looked kinda cool, and I saw Alarielle's warscroll was gone from the warcom free army list builder, but was still available on the store page. Now today it's gone from there too. well, guess I'll go elsewhere for the info or just stop window shopping other armies.
