  1. seriously though - the BIG GenCon reveal for WarCry is…a teaser. Even on the level of the GW hype machine, in my opinion, this is just - lame. positive point - if we get some new scenery and a new starter box out of it, final results would make me happy
  2. Educated guess on my part based on today’s reveal - nothing confirmed. Especially knowledgeable students may also note this puts us just before another calamitous Chaos invasion, and one which, while central to the story of the Empire and the entire Old World, was barely touched on in previous iterations Timeline jumps sound like fun though.
  3. 2300, Magnus the Pious vs Asavar Kul. The Founding of the Colleges of Magic by an Elven Archmage (Teclis). At least Asavar Kul was an Everchosen that died trying; and not simply retreated every time and tried again (Archaon). Intrigue, Cultists, Trolls, Bears, Slayers…good times. This will be good! Plus, I could swear, I still have some of them square thingies and a Bretonnian shaped pile of shame somewhere…
  4. Time reset to 2300 - Magnus the Pious I believe. Fantastic Choice from my point of view.
  5. Thank you for an entertaining read. My two take away points: - use monsters to destroy faction terrain; especially if it can deny reinforcements - I really want these “roaming monsters” for the Season of Ghur. Games Workshop gave us Endless Spells. Wasted opportunity if they don’t do it.
  6. ‘Also spell selection seems nerfed. Page 69 – Spell Lores Delete the second sentence in the paragraph of body text under the header. deleted: “…you can choose…one spell..for each of your wizards” Which, if I understand it, means all your wizards will know the same single spell + their warscroll spells. Unless you spend an extra enhancement of course. This nerf seems universal for all battletomes. Tough
  7. - Allegiance Ability is gone: Allegiance Abilities, Battle Traits, Navigate Realmroots Delete this battle trait (it is replaced with the rule on the Awakened Wyldwood warscroll in this document). Not good as monsters can destroy terrain, leaving our Dryads to slog it on foot - Navigate Realmroots can be used to get out of combat: …can walk the spirit paths instead of making a normal move or retreating.
  8. At least we know that there will be miniatures previewed. And if it’s anything like previous faction reveals, we should see 1-2 more units, 1-2 heroes, 1 monster and 1 centerpiece model. The silhouette looks less monstery and more centery to me. Too many spikes and geometric shapes for a monster. Either a warmachine or centerpiece imo. Last option would be a faction terrain, but seems too detailed for that. Anyway- got 2 dominion starter boxes, so enough Kruleboyz to start with them. And way too many Hobgrotz.
  9. Since indeed all discussion on unleash hell center around the Sentinels, it does stand to reason, that they need the fix- not the core rules. The issue seems also not to be the unit or it’s rules. The “get 1 wizard free of charge” and “on top, double your mortal wounds output for as many units as you like” for the spell are the main offenders here. An easy fix would be to add something that also addresses the magic supremacy issue in other lists. Bring back Dispel Scrolls. Easy, effective and does away with outliers. It’s an expensive insurance, but gives you a break, when and where needed. And pretty much in line making reactions stronger in the game. Heck, just create a new reaction, costing a CP, which gives you a bonus to an unbind roll (+ 2 ?).
  10. Starting new and trying to built my first army. Struggling a little with “enhancements”. 27.3 ENHANCEMENTS Each set of allegiance abilities includes a number of enhancements that are given to specific units in an army. Enhancements are divided into command traits, artefacts of power, mount traits, triumph, spell lores, prayer scriptures and unique enhancements. Enhancements are picked after you have chosen the battalions for your army (see 26.0). You can always take 1 enhancement of each type for your army, and the battalions or battlepack you are using may allow you to take additional enhancements for your army. Emphasis mine. This does mean I always get 1 command trait, 1 artifact, 1 mount trait (no generics, so might not apply to all armies), 1 triumph, 1 spell and 1 prayer?! Reason I am asking is the triumph; some of the example army lists for 3.0 seem to not include triumphs. Since generic ones are available, I cannot see a reason not to. Am I misunderstanding something?
  11. Returning to AoS after a loong time (WHFB actually). The the new rules seemed a good point to jump on. Came here to learn about the rules. So, here is my summary as the newbie of what I seem to get into (with an eye wink) - Coherency Rules = wonky (+ imperial system beats decimal system 🙃) - Double Turn = still there, either loved or hated - New Rules = serious fun; many ways to "peak" unit performance where and when needed - New Points = everyone seems to hate something; which is the hallmark of a good compromise to me 😏 means I can buckle up and enjoy the ride. Now to paint my Sylvaneth (OMG, did I buy a "loser" faction? 🖖) and to decide which part of the Dominion Box (which is still available despite the calls of doom) to keep and which to gift to a friend.
  12. Since I am restarting - would this be OK for a tournament? Wanted the Tree-Revenants, but with the “angry forest” vibe.
  13. AoS 3.0 has also re-ignited some Warhammer in me. I dropped out around the 7th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle (and, yes, I am a stout Duardin with a graying beard). Since the aesthetic of over-sized big heads and hands is still off-putting in some armies to me, the more fantastic ones hold an higher appeal. At the end I settled at Sylvaneth (over my dust gathering Ogre army). Here my starting buy (might have gone a little overboard :-)
