Thryng Grudgecaller

I've been eyeing seraphon for a while as a 1000pt- 1500pt side army, however I'm not really a fan of skinks. From what I've absorbed skinks seemed the only way to play for a while now. With 3rd almost here does it look like a list focused on Saurus look usable? Or is it one of those cases where they need scroll rewrites to do anything? I don't care if it's tournament competitive I'd just like not to get rolled every game. What is the consensus?
