  1. What units should I get to have a decent flexible summoning pool for 1000pts games? I haven't settled on a main list yet but I plan to focus on mortals with some combination of hellstriders, blissbarbs, twinsouls, and maybe Sigvald because I love the model.
  2. I think that many of the warscrolls missed an opportunity to include the lore in their design. For example, I like the idea of the slaangoes being worshipped by the hedonites, perhaps having other mortal hedonites grant a look out sir kind pf rule, a ward save, or the ability to pass on wounds from the slaangors to them. Then, maybe to illustrate their lust for blood and increasing frenzy, give them an extra pile in toward the nearest enemy if a model does within a certain distance, or grant them increasing buffs as they kill models, maybe culminating in them rampaging and becoming truly terrifying in combat, always moving towards the nearest target, be it friend or foe.
  3. Slaangor definitely win out aesthetically, for me at least, so that's something 🙂 At the very least I will try the warband. Aa Krispy wrote, having only 3 might be best to maximize the gilded claw attack and to avoid losing excessive points to battleshock, but would lose on mortal wounds (but that is probably neglible). They have 2" range though and can attack in two rows. A unit of 6 might be hard-hitting, but expensive.. Compared to Daemonettes they are mortals. Could something good be made of that? A Lord of Pain could allow them to re-roll hits for example. It's a shame that they don't have the Brayherd keyword. I'm not familiar with Beasts of Chaos, but is there some potential there?
  4. I really enjoy this thread, especially that people staying positive and try to find solutions amidst a lot of pessimism, and return to it often. When I first started warhammer I bought the soul wars box. I was really excited to join the community and discuss all the awesome nighthaunt models and how to build a cool and thematic army. Instead I found negativity and a pretty hostile environment. It was not good introduction to the hobby, and I took a few months off reading warhammer content online to regain some of the initial excitement. So thank you for being positive and awesome. On that note, are Slaangors truly that bad? Are the warscroll that irredeemable or do they have a use? Could it be a case of them just being meme-material and that they could actually be decent if they were fielded? You guys are probably right and they are bad, but maybe it could be a fun discussion?
  5. How about a gargant that throws entire siege engines?
  6. There is a lot of discussion at the lumineth board about new *theories* (definitely not leaks) about the new battletome. If accurate, it certainly seems that hedonites have been unfairly costed. Swordmaster is 2w 4+ for 120 pts for example, and their shooting kangaroos is 150 pts.
  7. Thank you for the clarification. I'm new to this hobby 🙂
  8. I just realized that you cannot make a normal move when within 3" of an enemy unit, so that solves that issue at least. But what do you guys think about the teleport?
  9. I just got the new battletome today and noticed that the wording of the Shadow Patrol battalion is different. It no longer has the "Once per battle round" or "more than 3" from any enemy models" sections. I think I must be reading this wrong because teleporting up to 6 units every turn, potentially out of combat, seem really strong. This is the current wording: "In your movement phase, instead of making a normal move with a unit from this battalion, you can say that it will navigate the shadowpaths. If you do so, remove that unit from the battlefield and set it up again anywhere on the battlefield more than 9" away from any enemy units." I'm not a native speaker but doesn't the RAW enable each unit to teleport?
  10. So it seems that the third Broken Realms book will be about Bel'lakor. From the warhammer community article: It’s not just the undead who oppose the Mortal Realms’ heroes, though – something daemonic is also on the way… We’re not going to give away too much right now, except to say that this is all tied in with the princely third book in the Broken Realms saga.
  11. I am eagerly awaiting the new battletome and the start of my first chaos army. In the meantime, I have been enjoying reading the great discussion here and theorycrafted a bit. Granted, I started this hobby in the middle of a pandemic so I have yet to play a game so this could be completely of the rails, but I have been having fun with it nonetheless. I was thinking about allies that I haven’t seen discussed here that could be useful and I was wondering what your thoughts are about these units. Plague Priest: I have seen some discussion about using Plague Censer Bearers to generate depravity, but what about this guy? He has the same 3” AoE mortal wound to each unit at a 4+, but he also can chant two prayers that can help cause some damage. Great Unclean One: I don’t know the points for this guy but maybe he could be a fun way to generate DP and soak damage? He can use the Bileblade to cause 1 wound to himself when either casting or dispelling, and his spell damages everything in a 14” line, friend or foe. The Glottkin: Again, I don’t know his points, but he seems tanky enough, but I was mostly thinking of his spell Fleshy Abundance. It adds 1 wound to the models of a friendly unit within 14” until the next turn. 30 summoned 2W Daemonettes seems pretty tasty. I guess the phases don’t line up too well though, with spellcasting before the summoning, but maybe it could work? Or maybe just start with one big unit and charge headlong into the enemy to tie them up in the beginning of the game? Or is too much of a one-trick pony? Also, is the Exalted Greater Demon of Slaanesh not playable? His command ability Exalted Excess of Violence is what I guess the old CA KoS had and which seem to be missed.
