It's really quite depressing when you read pretty much any social media about Slaanesh - so many people (like 9/10 posts on non-Warhammer official posts) have said "Slaanesh box is lovely, too bad the army is in such a poor state that it's not worth it."

It just seems like at this point there's no way the Warhammer team as a whole haven't realised that a lot of people have been turned off because of the rules. If Slaanesh has sold badly, I don't think it's the lore or the models (both of which have been positively received), but the very poor marketing decisions and incredibly poor reaction to the rules.

Imagine, in some parallel dimension, just how many more people would play Slaanesh should things have gone well - if our warscrolls were considered more interesting, and if the marketing and hype weren't very mismanaged. Seems like a disappointingly wasted opportunity that may never come around again.

This is what actually bothers me.

When our mortal release happened, so many people online and in person spoke highly of new Hedonite models. Five people at my local meta expressed strong desire to buy Hedonite miniatures because they were simply beautiful. They wanted to start playing them and then the rules dropped. Then Lumineth and Soulblight releases came and people jumped ship to those factions, whose rules are far more competitive.

I hope that Hedonites sold well, if not, this will have some major consequences for Slaanesh in all GW ranges.

  2. Because Ulgu is the last Realm that is truly unexplored. We have plenty of lore for all other Realms.

I just hope that when Malerion and his Shadow Aelves do arrive, they come as their battletome and fully new release in the same way Lumineth got their stuff. I hope DoK stay as their own faction.

But regarding era of the Beast, I thought a Kurnothi would be appropriate, the newest WD has a small text on their faith and possibility of Kurnoth being reborn.

Taking into account that "Slaanesh is trapped" is one of major plot narratives of Age of Sigmar, the sheer lack of lore on Hedonites is absolutely tragicomic. We got a few short stories and that parody in BR: Kragnos where the Twins get one shot by a family of witch hunters with a magical bullet. Other factions get full novels, some even several, exploring the various themes of the faction.

Slaanesh has always been the most unpopular Chaos deity not because of reasons @MothmanDraws wrote (though they factor in too) but because Slaanesh is deity which explores a bit more mature aspects of life.

I want to know how their society/empire works, their diferences, why people follow their pretty leaders and what they expect from them. There is a lot of focus on their leaders, but what they want to achieve? Maybe Daemonhood? Just be rich and sexy? Wannabe Frank Cotton from Hellraiser? Just reading their descriptions, they feel like slaaneshii-marked Warriors of Chaos with fancy sculpts (Lore-wise).

I can't imagine we'll be nerfed (certainly, I really hope not), but my worry is we'll be ignored totally. In a way, that would be almost worse - it'd show that they don't think there's an issue at all, rather than a botched attempt to fix an issue (which would likely be attempted to be fixed later).

I am going to be baffled should Slaangors not get touched up in the 'warscroll fixes' they're planning on doing.

I know for a fact that they were "actively scrutinizing" the survey data we sent them. That being said, anything beyond that is a enigma to me. They might have looked at data and said, "This should be fixed." or they could have said "These are clearly the results of fan wishing."

Still, I would be very, very much surprised if we got totally ignored.

  6. I have been in WHFB/40K for almost 18 years. Chaos player first and foremost. Managed to gather pretty much every Chaos lore book out there.  It is very clear that Slaanesh has never been GW favorite god, so to speak. Nurgle and Tzeentch have a coherent philosophy and I would even use word theology for them. Khorne is relatively straightforward. Of all Chaos gods, Slaanesh is the only one of infinite possibilities, which is quite paradoxical given how Slaanesh has been treated in WHFB/40K/AOS.  That is to say, Slaanesh has been the neglected one since day one. Over the years, I read and saw explorations of Slaanesh by various fans and while most were below average, some were excellent. That is the thing with Slaanesh, a good dosage of creativity is required to truly make Slaanesh shine.

I did not pull that perfume/fragrance idea out of nothing. Years ago, I read a blog where one woman was writing a incredible lore for existing but also completely new daemons and mortals, with accompanying artwork for each hero, unit and monster. In her own words, she took a concept, in this case, the olfactory sense, and explored it in context of Slaanesh. I curse myself for not saving her lore and art, for she deleted he r blog and I was never able to find it again. Slaanesh is a deity of everything, for everything can be taken to excess.

But to give a example that all of you can read right now.

And so, the rumor about the "disgruntled GW employee" saying that the next book was going to be Khorne was false. And the Underworlds rumors seem right! Bring on the Malerion's aelves!

There have been actual legit rumors about Malerion shadow aelves?

  8. Warcry warbands are amazing!

Nurgle could have gotten a bit more, maybe Pestigors and brand new Festus model, but I suppose this is the way it will go.

We now know the leak is true, thus 40K side is known to us. Looking forward to World Eaters, I hope they do Emperor Children in the same way the did Thousand Sons and Death Guard.

Disappointed they're just Spider-LARPers, but it's a cool design. The right mix of weird without seeming too overdesigned like The Unmade.

The Unmade are to me the most aesthetically original Warcry warband. Beautiful models.

All of Warcry Chaos warbands are quite amazing, but this spider guy just looks lame.

    Wish-listing for some warcry factions.

    Golemkind Duardin from Chamon

    Kurnothi from Ghur

...from what I've been reading, seems more sensible to keep expectations at a new 2021 book release though.

Honestly, I would like to see Kurnothi released as a proper army, not just Underworlds or even Warcry warbands.

Absolutely amazing, you have a very rich imagination!   GW should let you write our battletome.

Could I ask you for a favor, could you apply your rich imagination and expand upon the Lurid Haze faction, if you could come up with six artefacts of power, six command traits and battle traits that are lore fitting for the Lurid Haze faction?

I would be eternally grateful to you if you could do this, since I am planning on making a purely Lurid Haze themed Hedonites (there will be heavy customization of miniatures, I already got various censers from Skaven)  army and I am dying for lore inspiration!

    My thanks in advance!

Judging from the current design philosophy, I have to agree. With a decent points revision (and a slaangor makeover) we'll be in a serviceable spot for sure.

    I agree.

Honestly, just a point decrease for a few units and Slaangor rewrite. That is all we need.

Let us pray to Slaanesh that GW takes a look at our survey data.

Nice work with the new survey @Enoby! It’s great to hear that GW heads have seen the survey @Sorrow. Hopefully some meaningful change will come to our book eventually. As it stands, it seems that the majority of the community believes HoS to be one of the weakest books. The tournament data also seems to also indicate this. I’m in the opinion that the book is weak at a competitive level, but can preform alright in casual settings. Regardless, I’ve hadn’t had the time to play many games recently, but I’ve been quietly observing the community’s experiences with the army.

We did our part, the rest is up to GW.

Tournament data from the world places us at Beasts of Chaos level in competitive scene.

For a newly updated army, that is quite bad. People look at armies that got updated such as Lumineth or released such as Soulblight and the difference is truly great. Just take a look where Lumineth and Soulblight end up on tournament data.
